December 12th is National Pho Day, but one day simply isn't enough to honor the soulful, heart warming magic of our favorite noodle soup. On my first visit to La Sen, I ordered the Bún Riêu ($13.99 - Crab Noodle Soup), an order of Gỏi Cuốn Tôm Thịt ($6.50 - Shrimp & Pork Spring Rolls), and a Cà Phê Dừa (Vietnamese coconut coffee). It was decent. Their bún riêu wasn't strongest in terms of flavor so that was a let down. I did enjoy the spring rolls though (how can you go wrong with spring rolls?) and the Vietnamese coconut coffee was refreshing. It's a beautiful clean space with ample seating. The afternoon we were there, there was only one server so the wait time wasn't ideal but easily forgivable. While not a bad place for a meal, I don't think I would go out of my way to come back. read more

Pro-tip: Do not expect a fast meal coming here like your typical Vietnamese places. Highlights: The food was pretty good. Lowlights: We had terrible service when we came, even though there weren't a lot of customers. I went with a party of four and we ordered two bowls of pho and two bowls of bun bo hue and after a crazy long wait, somehow the server only brought out three of the four bowls. We waited a really long time for the last bowl before asking the server if it was coming and she said the kitchen was still working on it. I don't know why they would serve food like this. There were only three other tables of single diners, eating at the same time as us and the other people all finished their meals before we got our last bowl. Huge pet peeve of mine is when the staff doesn't clean up the dirty plates after customers leave. To top it off, since it was a modern looking restaurant, the prices are higher and they give less sides like mint leaves and bean sprouts. I personally won't be coming back. read more

This place is owned by Hello Vietnam in Scottsdale but with more menu items including Wagyu and lobster. It is located on the eastern most end of the NE business corner of Germann and Dobson The entrance is a bit difficult to navigate and I would recommend clearer signage to the front. The sliding glass doors is s bit cumbersome and they get left open because they appear automatic but are not. The restroom entrance reminded me of an escape room with multiple options. The sinks were nice though. The interior is spacious and divided into various seating areas. This would be a good place to bring larger groups as it accommodates 12 in a section. The decor is pleasant and the interior design is representative of colors and pictures reflective of Vietnam. There are 4 large screens that display various food preparations and traditional dishes. They also have a bar and serve alcoholic beverages besides boba and Southeast Asian teas/drinks. They have fair prices and the pho has good broth. Pho Tai (rare steak) is not loaded with meat, but it is a large bowl and contains a large amount of noodles. I actually returned again to check if the pho broth was consistent and it was flavorful. I also had yellow curry which I have tried at their other location. Toan is a friendly server and the food came at a comfortable pace. He was quick to refill drinks and check on our table. Delicious food! The filet mignon garlic noodle is AMAZING! It's a little pricier but the portion is big and it's cooked to med rare (you can ask them to cook longer if you prefer). Very nicely decorated inside especially for a Vietnamese food place. Seeing how it is I was expecting the pricing to be high, but with inflation nowadays it was comparable to hole in the wall Pho spots. There are over the top pricey items if you went to go fancy route. The Steak Pho, Pho Thai was $12. The pho broth was delicious. The meat came out a bit more cooked than we would have wanted. Bun Bo Hue was so good on the first couple bites. Then it got a bit fishy as I ate more. The fish sauce got very strong. Maybe next time ask if it's possible to get light fish sauce. Second visit! Came in around 6/6:30 on Sunday evening with my family since they wanted to try this place. We were seated pretty quickly. It took a while to get our drink orders in (about 10 mins). Once our drinks came out, our food orders were taken pretty quickly. It didn't take too long after that to receive our food! Light, citrusy and refreshing! You can't see them in the photos but I swear there is pork and shrimp underneath all the onions and lotus lol. Bun bo hue broth looked a bit light in color (photo was enhanced but it was light in person). Flavor was also light and could use a bit more. Wasn't bad though! I asked for an extra side of saté and added like 3/4 of it in. I like mine spicy!! Saté wasn't spicy but it still added a nice flavor. Both the sliced beef and brisket were pretty tender. Veggies were fresh! My mom said her bun mam was good but the broth wasn't hot enough. She also wished it came with a sauce for dipping that other places usually give. Ordered via Grubhub for a pickup. When my son picked up the order, he was charged again. He explained to the guy who was helping him that he's picking up an order, the guy just kept repeating that it was $18 something. So my son paid for it not realizing that I had paid for it already. When I drove to the restaurant to show proof of payment, the guy said he was going to refund my card but never did. It's only $18 and some change, BUT do they always charge when you're picking up app orders? So this most recent time we came back during lunch time on a weekend, the menu was a fraction of what it was 6 months ago. There was only one server running all the tables...poor girl and we felt bad for her, as the customers came pouring in. Food was great as before, although there was less to choose from now, and the first set of red wine we ordered was foamy and tasted like half fermented grapes that I once made at home. I told the server the issue and she gave us a new set of wine which tasted more like wine. Service was on the slower side this time around than before, but not terrible. I think if they had at least 2 servers working here, things would run a lot smoother. Ambience was as before and the prices/portions didn't change. I do hope they change the weird door issue. After reading so many negative comments I decided to go here to give it a try and I'm glad I did. The food is very good. I wouldn't call it authentic because Arizona is a long way from Vietnam. They have to scale it back for American tastes. The combo bowl I ordered was very good. A good amount of shrimp, beef and chicken with carrots and broccoli was very fresh and tasty. The Thai ice tea was good without being overly sweet. I liked it so much after I had dinner here I came back the next day and ordered two sandwiches for lunch. Grilled chicken and pork belly. The French baguette was fresh and tasty. The cilantro, onions and carrot added a fresh healthy taste to the sandwich. I didn't see pate as an option for the sandwiches but they stood solid on their own. I wish the veggies were pickled longer for more depth in their taste but I get what they ate doing here which is making it generic so they can sell more sandwiches without turning some people off. Think Mexican food with tons of cheese and black olives. That's not authentic Mexican Food but that's what people have come to expect. It's Chandler AZ with people from Nebraska , Iowa and Ohio and they want chimichanga even if it's a made up dish for Americana. Same principle in effect here. The service was great but don't be in a rush. Everything is made fresh so don't complain about time. If you want fast go to Panda Express. Good food should be enjoyable and savored otherwise go to a drive in and order Taco Bell. The ambiance is very nice. This has one of the nicest decors I've ever seen for a Vietnamese restaurant. If you know San Gabriel or San Fernando Pho spots in Cali you know what I'm talking about. Next time I'm trying the Pho which at $12.50 is a deal. Above average Viet Food for a reasonable price! The good: -the food was pretty good overall, ordered the Pho & Bun Bo Hue. There's nothing crazy about the dishes though, but it definitely satisfies a craving -prices are fairly reasonable and is the reason I'll come back. -service is solid, as we came in late & there were not many customers dining near closing hours. -portions are descent, but not the largest I've seen. We were greeted right away by our waiter who brought us glasses of ice water and menus. We decided on the Lemon Grass Beef Bowl for my wife, and Grilled Chicken Bowl for me, as well as an order of Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls and an order of Fresh Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls. Also got a pot of hot green tea. Our waiter was very attentive and nice to talk to. The bowls come with noodles and fresh vegetables and tasty sauce. I also added Hosin sauce to mine. The Spring Rolls were super fresh and delicious and come with peanut sauce and diced peanuts. All the food was wonderful and the glasses of water were very nice tasting, not like typical Arizona tap water. We really enjoyed our lunch and the interior is decorated very nicely. The people were quite helpful, although most of them seemed a bit confused and not so confident - potentially because the place is new. The Vietnamese egg rolls were great. This place is amazing. It is fancier than most Pho places, but the prices are the same. I had the spicy beef noodle soup the first time with real crab rangoons and pork/shrimp wrap. My daughter had the orange chicken and said it was better than Panda. My wife had the grilled chicken pho and loved it. Stumbled on this beautiful restaurant for lunch with my colleague. Pho was delicious and the size of the bowl of pho big and priced just right. Ox tail Bún bò Huế was delicious and portioned just right. They have live band every Saturday night from 8 pm to closing.
