La Piedad is one of my favorite spots in Indy! The food is always fresh, piping hot, and delicious. Everything tastes homemade, and is an incredible value for the price as well - portions are large, and most dishes are under $15, and a 16oz margarita is only $6.99 (a steal compared to other restaurants in the area). As a college student, I love having an affordable, authentic Mexican restaurant so close to campus. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and you can tell that they truly care about their guests and their experiences. Service is fast and consistent, even when the restaurant is busy (which is often), and the servers always make sure your food comes out quickly and as ordered. They treat you like family, and love to crack jokes with guests, which makes the atmosphere both fun and relaxed. The restaurant itself is very cozy and can seat about 15 tables inside, and about another 12-15 tables on their patio. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and is always a great place to gather over a meal with friends. First timer here! This local favorite is tucked away in Broad Ripple Village, and I'd definitely call it a hidden gem. A friend and I went on a Thursday for lunch, and the awesome thing about this place is the cozy, home like feel it brings. Not only is it set in a repurposed house, but the staff is also super welcoming and friendly, allowing you to choose your own seat. There aren't too many tables--maybe around 20. I ordered "Maria's," their take on an enchilada, filled with shredded chicken, peppers, and onions, then doused in queso and served with a side of rice. The chicken was full of flavor, which really made the dish. This place is my friend's favorite, so she ordered her usual, arroz con pollo, with extra rice. No complaints all around! This is a hidden gym in Broad Ripple. And it is hidden because it's pretty ducked off and small but then they make up for it. The staff is so nice and the food is delicious. I haven't had anything I was disappointed with. There is patio seating for the nice days, and there is patience indoor dining as well with TVs just in case you might want to catch a game. When we first arrived (after a difficult parking experience), we seemed to have stumbled upon Mr. Grumpy Pants for our server. But after some smiles and kindness, his demeanor did a complete about flip and he was a sweet Abuelo to our boys. Adults ordered the Enchilada Verde- which the beef was the best flavor while the chicken and cheese was enhanced with the green sauce. I should have asked for a side of lettuce and sour cream. The Pina Colada was especially yummy and I write this review under its influence. The neighborhood was absolutely adorable. As a tourist I had picked another place but it was in a strip mall so my husband searched and found this spot. Ambiance on point. The family decided to go to an impromptu dinner on a Tuesday night. We have frequented La Piedad but have not been in a while. The food is tasty and affordable. Our table got a mixture of things carne asada, a tamale, burrito, chimichanga, a quesadilla, and rice and beans. Everything was solid and better than we had remembered. I've been a regular since before they moved to the other location down the street (the one that was Books & Brew for a minute) and then back to this location. If you don't remember any of that, well it was like 15 years ago so I don't blame you! :D La Piedad hasn't updated anything for the past couple of decades. In some ways that's great. In some ways, they could use a refresh. They're definitely comfort food for those of us who have been around Broad Ripple for a long time. I was surprised that I had not tried this restaurant yet seeing as it's so close to home! I love how close it is to me, while I do think that if the establishment could use a new paint job, I can honestly say the service and warmth you receive from their staff makes it not too important. I had some of the best service while my partner and I went to grab some lunch. Reading on their website, I saw that the Rodriguez family is from Michoacán, however when trying the food I didn't feel as it reflected it. The food is catered to what Americans think is Mexican food. While talking to staff they informed me that they don't have anything spicy in the menu, which is understandable for the location. I got enchiladas verdes I thought they were all chicken, but I was pleasantly surprised that I got one ground beef, one chicken, and one cheese. I did ask if they could make it spicy for me, and our waiter came back with one of the spiciest salsas I have ever tried! It was so delicious and flavorful, I loved that it tasted like they were roasted over an open fire. They incorporated that sauce with my green enchilada sauce, which made my dish so mouthwatering delicious. My partner got a chicken chimichangas, and while I do stay away from them, I was pleasantly surprised with the delicious flavors. Their rice and beans were so well prepared, and I liked how they tied the chimichanga meal so well. They gave us fresh warm, just out of the fryer chips, and salsa. I will say, the salsa did taste like it had canned tomatoes incorporated in it, which is not my favorite if I am being honest. I did mix that salsa with the super spicy salsa, which paired very nicely. A+ for value and volume for the money. The patio is chill on a nice day. The food is mediocre. Avoid anything beef, it is ground beef of flavorless mushy quality. The Chile relleno was actually very solid. The rest of the meal was incredibly forgettable. The Margarita used a cheap mixer and the salted rim was table salt. In college, this would have been my jam! I'm no longer in college though, so there are many other great local Mexican options that I will continue to frequent. They charge a fee for credit card usage which is not clear and fairly unheard of these days, so FYI. read more

My husband and I had lunch yesterday and the food was good, ironically. BUT the more I looked around the faster I lost my appetite. We sat inside, close to a wall that was filthy (dirt, grime, crud) Then I saw two waiters, all men only work there, in the dirtiest clothes I've ever seen in a food establishment. I don't mean work stains, I mean sweat stains, streaks of black dirt and huge dark gross blotches. Enjoyed a fabulous Shrimp Chimichagas at La Piedad! I just happened to be in Broadripple in the mood for Mexican and found this spot. The flour tortilla was perfect and I really loved the refried beans. The salsa was garlicky but good for restaurant style salsa. I was super happy with my meal. Every time I walk past this place on the Monon it is always BUMPIN' so after four years we finally wandered in for dinner! (Took us long enough, eh). Things I liked: 1. We thought our waiter was awesome--he let us gringos try ordering in Spanish and gave us lessons/vocab words along the way. 2. The margs are only $6. 3. The chips and salsa are free. 4. It's very cozy inside. 5. Que ganga--you won't break the bank eating here! I will say, the bathrooms are pretty scuzzy, I burned myself on the hot water, and the food is just okay. It is pretty small inside, so if you are still wanting to social distance this isn't the place for you. I don't know if I would go back (I love La Chela for Mexican takeout), but seeing other people talk about the Queso makes me think I need to go back to sit on the patio for margs+queso. All the menu items are classic Mexican restaurant dishes such as fajitas, burritos, enchiladas etc. I also love the a la carte menu. I usually opt for 2 soft tacos and a tostada. The soft tacos are basic but they hit the spot. In chicken or beef with cheese. Sides of sour cream, guac and lettuce. Top that with hot sauce and you're good to go. Tostada is the same just on a crunchy tortilla that you usually have to cut to eat. All things are pretty good. Queso is the best. read more

La Piedad is a pretty standard Mexican restaurant in regards to the atmosphere and food options. The location is great right along the Monon and the outdoor patio is amazing if you can get a seat. The food is a little cheaper when compared to similar locations. The main entrees are decently sized and definitely will fill you up but the side/a la carte portions a slightly smaller than what I would anticipate. The salsa and queso are pretty amazing though to start a meal out with! The service is usually decent but depending on the crowd you may have to wait a bit more than expected. Usually the extended wait comes after they have taken the bill, one register slows it up a bit. They do a small service charge for credit cards as well. It's good spot for what it is and if you can enjoy a night on the patio I would definitely recommend it. read more

What a wonderful surprise! I just wanted a quick small meal so I could get on with my day and I ended-up having a great experience. My waiter was friendly and speedy. My burrito was great, but what was really wonderful was the salsa sauce. It was the best that I've ever had! It was probably too mild for some people, but it was just right for me and -- thankfully -- it had a lot of cilantro. That really makes for great salsa sauce. Have been living in Indy for a few months now and I get it. Spice is... hard to find. The midwest is very white and many businesses have apparently adjusted their dishes to account for this. I enjoyed the chorizo & cheese app because it also had onions and green peppers mixed in. It was served on a very flat dish though making it a bit hard to scoop up. The flautas were huge but pretty bland as was the salsa and there was no hot sauce to be found. The enchiladas were okay, the red sauce is nice. Something I noticed that I wasn't too fond of was the margaritas were premixed in a giant gallon jug much like the one you'd get lysol in. At least, I'm assuming it was premixed because when we ordered a pitcher (and when the table next to us ordered a single margarita) I watched the waiter grab the jug, fill the pitcher/glass and served it in literally 5 seconds. There was no mixing, no bartender needed, so if there wasn't already tequila in there, there certainly wasn't any added. Frankly, if splitting an entire pitcher between 2 people doesn't have either one of them feeling *something*, I think it's safe to say there wasn't much in the drink, it sure didn't taste like it. I love "hole in the wall" establishments; I feel like you can get the best authentic food there, but this was bland and not worth the drive. I've had this on my broad ripple list for a while now and I was finally able to enjoy it! Great spot with authentic mexican food. The margarita was good not great, but got the job done! We sat outside and they are definitely complying with masks and space but I did not see any true disinfecting between guests, my only issue. Loved the arroz con pollo and my husband got the quesadilla with grounded (hilarious menu typo) beef and it was delicious!! I've been going to La P since college and it hasn't changed one bit since the first day I went. Though I usually just get the super basic tacos, we went with the Texan Fajitas and a Chicken Chimichanga today. The fajitas were great but the chicken was a bit dry on the Chimichanga. Just load on the guac and the pico de gallo and it tastes great! When it isn't mid-afternoon (or maybe when it is) add on a frozen strawberry marg, they're to die for! During Covid, they've done a great job of social distancing and sanitizing tables after people use them.
