I have been driving from Livermore to La Peluquería in Berkeley since 2017 to have Patricia cut my hair (almost an hour-long drive). Patricia, the stylist, and owner, always impresses me with her skill and expertise. In my first appointment, I went from very long hair, which I had had for years, and asked to cut it very short. Patricia considered my hair texture and asked about my preferences and hair care routine. Patricia has an excellent understanding of how to work with wavy (or curly), thick hair. She always asks me for pictures of what I would like and can recreate what I show her. When I return from a cut, I get compliments from everyone about how good it looks. Patricia uses precision techniques to create a flattering, cohesive shape that works well with my hair's natural texture. The last time I saw her, I did not take pictures with me and told her to trim and give it a little more shape. She did an awesome job as usual, so she can either follow what pictures you show her or she can give you a great cut without any pictures as examples. Since I met her, she has made some excellent suggestions for enhancing my curls, and I have continued following her suggestions throughout the years, always happy with the results. When my mom visits CA from Puerto Rico, she always requests that I make an appointment with Patricia. She says no one cuts her hair as well as Patricia. It's true! I was excited to find a walking (10 mins) salon near my home for my monthly gray cover and occasional cuts and highlight but while the gray cover and partial highlight was good, it is overpriced. Gloria charged me $180 for gray cover and just partial highlight to blend. And I have short, thin/soft curls. It was a cute little space, nothing extra... Too bad I was going to send my cousins and neighbors who have curly hair but over $300 with tip for cut , gray cover and partial highlight is not sustainable. First off I called Patricia last minute desperately looking for a same day apptm for a cut and instead of just telling me to come back another day when she wasn't completely booked with back to back hair colors, she fit me in between and had me come in within the hour! When she did the first snip from the front I gasped and said "that's so short!" and she said not to worry, she knew what I wanted. Foolish me, I assumed this was some layering--after all, she had the picture and the very plain word "bob" to guide her--and so I stopped looking. When she was done I had a short short pixie cut. I live close by in the neighborhood and was excited to get my curly hair cut for my birthday. I'm a disabled Afro-Latina, and it's hard to find people who can work with my tight hair texture. Augh, my hair is SOOOOO short! Many sections are so short that they won't curl. It is like wear a hat for the next coupke of months bad. During the haircut, she complained that she doesn't like the products I am using because she insisted they were for someone with a different type of hair as me. She argued that I don't understand the texture of my own hair. She didn't address my concern that some of my hair has different to no curls, and so the bottom is the layer that doesn't curl just laying flat. Check from the photo how there is a long flat section and the rest now just super frizzy after it dries. From the other reviews, I am guessing she is better at cutting hair that isn't coarse, thick, and dry. Or maybe it was just a bad day? I've been looking for a curly hair salon that really understands how to cut and style curly hair and I believe I've found it! Patricia made my hair look fuller and curlier than I thought possible! Okay, this wasn't the worst haircut I've ever gotten - but I went in with hair down to my waist on a good hair day (in order for her to understand how my hair curls etc.) and I asked to cut off about 12". Within 5 minutes of me sitting down, my hair was 12" shorter and I realized that this might not be the carefully tailored haircut I was expecting. As a result, I have quite the triangle head and since it's super short now, I can't really do much about it. Like I said, it's not the worst cut I've gotten, but the most disappointing part is that I have to use heat in order to make it look presentable every morning. A couple notes: I didn't find the place particularly clean - especially the basin for washing hair. The seat I sat in was also covered in hair and I had to brush it off. Disappointed with my experience here. I went to get my hair cut from Patricia about two months ago, and while the cut looked good for a few weeks (~5 weeks), it then started to grow out unevenly and looked really bad. I called Patricia to talk about how I was unhappy with the way it'd grown out, and she asked me to come in for a "trim". I assumed the trim would fix the way my hair had grown out and that I wouldn't be charged for it (my bad for not checking with her prior). After spending 10 minutes (and I mean exactly 10 minutes) trimming just the bottom of my hair and not even touching the rest of it, she said she was going to charge the same $100 I paid for my initial haircut. I was positively shocked and confused. She then went on to explain that she only does free trims for those that come in within a week - I would argue that it isn't even possible to notice any imperfections in curly hair until it grows out a little and that does not happen in a week for anyone. Either way, I made her whole but truly disappointed with the customer service and will not be going back. read more

Patricia is GREAT at giving me a fresh haircut that's easy to style, looks amazing, and enhances my curls. I grew up thinking I had straight hair, but with the right conditioner (and no shampoo) and a diffuser I get nice ringlets! I asked for lots of volume and she delivered! I was really looking forward to this appointment. I appreciated being able to be seen within the week, she squeezed me in because I was going on vacation. Her salon is very pretty, clean and she seems to only work by appointment, but I felt that she was rushed, she did everything so quick and fast, she didn't even take a full 20 minutes. It felt like she just wanted to finish with me as soon as possible so I would leave and she could continue fixing her own hair.
