"Haircut is $90" was her reply. I was dumbfounded and again explained, only the ends. She repeated $90. She was brusque and unfriendly. I passed in front of this salon about 1,000 times before going in. We finally stopped in because of some positive reviews elsewhere on the Web for Circle Salon haircutter Inca Arechiga. Inca really is excellent; her phone number is (510) 234-7800. This salon has a very nice feel. It's well located in a commercial area that is visibly coming up in the world. The Sunday Kensington Farmers' Market moved down here a few weeks ago, and the restaurant Post Meridian is a few doors away. The Circle has a Semifreddi's, the Colusa Market, the Kensington Circus Pub, and lots of other stuff. You can grab a latte and croissant at Semi's, snag some organic garlic at the Farmer's Market, and then get your hair cut. So what's not to like? read more

1. I am a bad, bad person. Circle Hair Salon, and esp. Teresa (the stylist who cuts/colors my hair) have been my 'secret' that I've refused to Yelp but they deserve the love. It's a small-ish five-chair salon with a very comfortable, casual and welcoming atmosphere. The decor is modern but not at all stark. As long as I have been going there to see Teresa, I have had the opportunity to observe the other stylists and I think all of them are excellent. 2. I am a total klutz when it comes to 'doing' my hair. If I have to work too hard, due entirely to my incapable hands, my hair ends up looking either like a Texas Beehive or otherwise completely unbalanced so I had better have a hair style that requires as little as possible from my uncoordinated ministrations, but still looks good. Very pleasant, comfortable salon. Always clean, beautifully decorated with fresh flowers from Julie's garden, and not too noisy despite the fact that it's often quite busy. Theresa does my hair, and I've gotten more compliments since I started going to her than I've ever gotten before. She actually listens to what you say you want done with your hair, then produces it, which I've found to be relatively rare even among high-end stylists. She is also really friendly with a great sense of humor and wonderful to chat with. All in all, highly recommended! read more

It's only fair that I write Adrianna another five star review, since she's worked magic on my hair once again! I recently went to a different salon to get my hair toned (while out of town on business, okay? that doesn't count as cheating, right??), and they dyed my long, blonde hair a permanent dark reddish brown. I immediately reached for the phone to make an appointment with Adrianna to fix the mess I had (yet again) made of my hair (well, to be honest, I cried for an hour first, and then I called). Adrianna took excellent care of my hair during the color correction session. She used Olaplex treatments to keep my hair healthy during the stripping process, and I was able to keep all of the length, and the original texture, of my hair. Here on Yelp, many of us (myself included) are quick to post negative reviews of businesses that disappoint us, but neglect to praise people when we are delighted by their good work; that being said, I should have posted this review long ago. Circle salon is clean, beautiful, and a pleasant place to get your hair cut. Bonus: the parking is ample. While I can honestly say that the stylists here are friendly, non-judgmental, and do good work, this review is for Adrianna Dougherty in particular. This woman is my favorite stylist. Ever. And because of her sweet, patient, genuine demeanor, she has also become a good friend. I stumbled upon her at a different salon after moving here from Southern California for college; and because I needed serious hair guidance in my early 20s, she was a godsend. Since then, she has cut my hair on the regular, and styled me through all the important occasions of my life (two graduations, countless dates, events, and even my own wedding). It goes without saying that her styling and coloring skills are on point; in addition to that, she is a great listener and is excellent at executing what you want; she's got a great creative sense, and is also down to experiment with new techniques and products. Thankfully, she is also very gentle at steering you in a more flattering direction if what you're looking for just ain't gonna work. Bottom line: I will probably be having Adrianna do my hair until she retires many, many years down the line when we're both old; that's how much I love her. I'm sure you will too. :) read more
