    Horse Steak Frites- very nice

Saw this place on Apple Maps and decided to try it out. From the outside of it, we knew it was the place to be. I got the best duck confit I've ever had, my friend got a very tasty Horse Steak Frites (not gamey at all, like a typical red meat), and my other friend got a tasty mussels appetizer. We also had be nice crème brûlées for dessert. The waiter was great (a lot of puns but it was entertaining) and all his Recommendations were on the money. A great last meal in Toronto

This place hits the trifecta when it comes to food, service, and ambiance. Service was fast, kind, and informative. Ambiance was tight but quaint and comfortable. Above all else, the food was superb!! What an amazing experience to see such attention to detail in these dishes, and to see them be made right behind the bar. Highly recommend!!

After unsuccessfully searching Google and Yelp for a place that serves wine and cheese/charcuterie, I walked down Queens Street to search on my own. Lo and behold I found La Palette. Staff was super welcoming and accommodating. They have separate menu items for cheese and charcuterie but were kind enough to combine them for my party of 1. The wine list was solid with a great Cremant-Bourgogne rosé. But the he standout was the food. Some incredible meats and cheeses. All the meats seemed to be from wild boar and each cheese has a story. I highly recommend La PaletteS

4.25/5 Came here for my partner's birthday dinner on a Monday evening. We were promptly seated and the first thing we noticed was the open concept kitchen where the kitchen was in the middle of the rectangular restaurant. So as we were walking towards the reserved tables (I'm assuming all the tables in the back were reserved), we passed by the kitchen, which we thought was quite neat. I love it when restahrants don't have a lot of items on the menu, and have special dishes that they change from time to time. So I was excited to try this place out. Escargot $12 4/5 The escargot was tender with a nice garlic based sauce. The fried garlic was also a nice touch as well. We just wished it was shelled as we love the process of getting it out of the shell so you can get the most amount of meat out. We just felt like there wasn't a lot of meat per escargot. Horse tartare $18 5/5 This was so tender and flavorful. Would get again but maybe as another main instead of an app. Foie Gras $27 4.5/5 We love seared foie gras and I loved how the first bite just melted in your mouth, spreading the flavor all around your mouth. Excellent. Duck Confit $38 4/5 I had a two bites of this so not rating it. My partner enjoyed it a lot but I found the Spatzle (the pasta looking thing on the plate) to be a bit mushy and out of place with the duck. The duck was a bit dry and a bit too salty in my opinion. Steak $45 4.5/5 Steak was cooked on point and the meat was so tender and tasty. The fries were nicely cooked as well. Chocolate ganache $8 4/5 We were both wondering why it was in such a small plate until we realized how thick and intense the flavor was. Not the best but pretty good. I loved it but it seemed like it was too much for my partner. Cardamom/Saffron sponge cake $9 4/5 As far a sponge cake go, this one was great. My partner enjoyed it a lot. I enjoyed it but I probably won't order it again. Service was just fine. Not a lot of checking in but it looked like they were understaffed.

Stopped in to grab a drink before dinner. The grapefruit Stiegl was light and refreshing and the cherry delirium had a beautiful rounded flavor. The bartenders were attentive, and the space was beautiful!! I would definitely come back the next time I'm in Toronto.

The ambiance is very cozy and intimate. As for the food we found the dishes true to French cuisine. I enjoyed the soup and duck Confit. One disappointing dish was the Fois gros which was served warm, it's not my cup of tea.

Great restaurant! Food was great and there was a lively ambiance. I would definitely recommend the beef tartare on the regular menu - the seasoning was perfect and the hot mustard went so well with it. We got the appy size but next time I will be getting the full sized version! Out of the daily specials, the Iberico pork chops were amazing. The meat was succulent and melted in your mouth. The escargots were in some kind of Thai sauce which wasn't my favourite flavour profile but grew on me, and the duck pate was delish. There's a good wine selection and the option of getting a 1/2 litre. Definitely a great option for French esp if you want a more casual and upbeat vibe.

Dinner here took nearly 3 hours. Not because we were sitting enjoying good conversation but that's how long it took to get our food with some people in my group getting their meals 2 hours into the seating. La Palette was recommended to me, so I took a chance and brought out of town guests here and was absolutely embarrassed by the poor service. Made a reservation for 12. One person in the group was late (out of my control) and the server refused to take our order even for appetizers until they arrived 30 min later. So 11 of us were just sitting there already very hungry and being ignored. Appetizers and small plates slowly came out over the course of an hour. Anyone without food had to make do with the complimentary bread which was quickly devoured. Our server was barely around for us to ask about following up on orders. For example, a Charcuterie board took 40 min to arrive. How is that possible when its a small board of cured meat and some pickles. I'd like to say the food was probably good as other diners have noted. I enjoyed the Foie Gras and Fondant Fromage the most. Sad to say my friend who ordered a steak got it cold with cold fries as if it had been sitting up at the pass for a while. On their website they note that this isn't the place for you if you are in a rush for service. I thought that meant they were just a chill place, not that you'd be entirely ignored. We weren't even rude at all. If we were demanding it's because we were forced to be demanding just for basic service. If you see the rest of my review history I'm not a stickler for service, and am very generous overall with my ratings. I noticed the other large group next to us under a different server was being served regularly and having a great time. They were all dressed in suits. I can't verify this claim but it felt like they discriminated us based on our attire and overall ages. I'm fine to take my money elsewhere since it felt like LA Palette doesn't want someone like me there anyways.

    Horse Tenderloin
    Mitchell L.

I was looking for restaurants in Toronto that serve horse meat and came across La Palette! I was not disappointed. La Palette is a French bistro that lives up to the hype. We ordered some classic French dishes such as Foie Gras and Duck Confit and they were amazing. The main dish that really did it for me was the Horse Tenderloin. I have never tried horse meat before so I wasn't sure what to expect but I was very pleasantly surprised when trying it at La Palette. The Horse Tenderloin was similar to beef, slightly sweeter and slightly gamier - I highly recommend trying this dish when visiting. The Duck Confit and Foie Gras were fantastic as well. They also have a large selection of wines which is a must and the staff knew their stuff when it came to food pairings. Regarding seating, we went during phase 2 COVID re-openings (patios only) and the only thing I'd say is the patios are quite close to the cars on Queen St. which made it a bit uneasy but understandable given the current circumstances. I can only imagine the experience to be much better when indoor dining resumes. Will definitely be coming back!

That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point.
