A really enjoyable experience on a recent Saturday evening at this friendly neighbourhood gasto pub. From the old school music, to the terrific 'Good Medicine' whiskey based cocktail, to the pleasant service from Briana. The menu and drink list which includes a nice wine list, great cocktails as well as a well curated list of beers, many of which are local. The prices were reasonable and certainly lower than at Gastro Pubs in the Toronto downtown core. A real pleasure however was the French Onion Soup, made in house by Chef James. It is based on bone broth, sweet onions, and finished with sherry. Topping this fab soup, He places a thick slice of dark rye bread (not industrial baked croutons) crowned with a swiss cheese, all baked to a gooey goodness. Without doubt this was the best onion soup I have ever experienced; balanced, deeply nourishing, perfect on a cold evening. The accompanying Desmoiselles Pinot Noir added to the dining pleasure. Gastro Pub prices certainly have gotten out of hand since Covid. Loved the ambiance and the enthusiasm of our server. She recommended a really great IPA. However, that said I was less enthusiastic about the food. I had their fish and chips which were good but nothing special. What was special, was the price, which was way out of line. A once around the table brought similar responses from my companions, the food was good but too expensive. It's a nice spot, however, for a cold draught on a warm evening. read more

I'm on a serious diet (sadly) and the pleasant waitress suggested a special which was a fish ceviche. It was truly EXCELLENT and I had to slurp up the remaining citrus sauce that was seasoned tastily. Of course, it did come with home-made taco chips that I did not resist, but my husband and diet coach was pleased that this with two white wine spritzers kept me within my daily calorie and carb goals (admittedly he had to take into account my having walked there and back :-) ). My first time at this slightly quirky, fun place but it will not be my last. read more

Loved it here. The ambiance was beautiful, the drinks and food were amazing and my server was so kind she brought me extra bread when I ran out (I ordered the avocado bruschetta). It's perfect for date night. We have an Irish pub local to use in Long Beach, CA and this is like the upgraded version of that. read more

Ok, hold up, this pub has legit good food. Grading on a curve or not, we really enjoyed our meal. - Ploughman: A shareable dish with 3 types of meat (that day it was duck prosciutto, sausage and ham), 2 types of cheese (blue and cheddar), veggie scotch egg, homemade jams (prune), house pickles, and grilled bread. So yeah, hearty. Standouts were the veggie scotch egg (interesting taste), sausage (properly smoky), and the prune jam (really fresh). Not a fan of the duck prosciutto, though kudos for trying to elevste the dish. - Salmon Eggs Benny: Generous serving of salmon (which was fresh enough), benny done well (chewy but not overly so), spinach a bit limp, good cut on the fries. We added a side aioli to dip the fries in. - Pecan Pie with Toffee Icecream: Homemade icecream was not overly sweet, so it complemented the pie well. Super generous amount of pecan. The star to me was the crust, which they infused heavily with cinnamon. Food was a bit pricey, but isn't everything these days? Obadiah (who's the head chef) took over in 2021 and out his stamp on this place in a spirited way. The pub itself is ultra British looking and has a laid back vibe. Gord and I had supper this evening at the Auld Spot Pub. They have a good selection of craft beer on tap. I ordered Chicken Drummies with honey hot sauce. They were okay. The sauce was sweet and had a bit of a bite. Gord ordered Mac 'n Cheese. He said it was good. As he was eating it, though, he said that there was no bacon. So we asked our server about it and he said there should be thick chunks of bacon in it. Apparently the cook forgot to put it in. He knocked off $3 from Gord's meal and gave him a free beer. read more

This is a really below average place on the danforth. In some other neighborhood it would be ok, but on the danforth the competition is tough and this place does not live up to it. The place itself is very small and it gets inexplicably crowded, since it is not that good. I am guessing people who don't live in the neighborhood (I do). Tables are too close together so when it is full, you elbow the person next to you, and forget about hanging your parka on the back of the chair. It is also very loud. Can't hear the person on the other side of the table. The food is below average (for the Danforth). Drummettes (their specialty apparently) are jus fried chicken with some unidentifiable sauce, lukewarm and not appetizing. Shrimp cakes taste like cardboard. You can't have below average shrimp cakes on the danforth with all the amazing Greek places around. The beer selection was good, but not as good as Louis Cipher up the street or the Fiddle (which both have more space and don't feel claustrophobic). The service starts with a forced politeness mixed with aggressiveness and ends nowhere to be found. If this place was in a neighborhood with less amazing restaurants - it would be ok. On the Danforth it's outright bad. read more

We ended up at the Auld Spot Pub when our first choice (Allen's) was completely full on a Monday night thanks to a Lucinda Williams concert happening at the Danforth Music Hall next door. Auld Spot looked promising at first - it was buck a shuck oyster night and there were lots of other diners seemingly enjoying their meals. We were seated at a large communal table since the smaller tables were full. We ordered 2 glasses of white wine and a dozen oysters shortly after 6pm. Wine came quickly to the table and then a short wait for oysters since there was only one shucker - not a big deal but they weren't expertly shucked and had quite a bit of shell/debris in them. We placed our order for the chicken drummies ($19) and the kale Cesar salad ($16) around 6:20pm. I think one of the red flags should have been that they charge $19 for wings but really that's shame on me for ordering them. By 7:15pm, our food order still hadn't arrived and we watched couples at our communal table who sat down after we arrived eat their full meals of steak/salad, nachos, etc. Although the pub was busy, we were sure why two items would take so long and considering one of the items didn't require cooking time! We inquired with our server who insisted that she had punched in our order with the kitchen. A second server came by and asked us for our order again, which I'm guessing that he just re-submitted to the kitchen because 20 minutes later at 7:35pm, our wings and salad finally arrived - over an hour after our initial order! The chicken drummies were 6 chicken wing drumsticks dosed in buffalo sauce - soggy and fatty. The kale Cesar was fine - a big leafy green salad. Such a long wait for mediocre, expensive meals. I can understand that restaurants can get busy and if they forgot our order, they should have just been truthful. Our server, although vocally apologetic, did nothing else to rectify the situation - no discount, no comp dessert or drinks, nothing. That's cold, Auld Spot. There are definitely much better options on the Danforth so there's no reason for me to return. read more

We love this place! It's our home away from home & we're in here pretty much every week. Favourite menu items: Mac & Cheese (with bacon), Oysters, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Steak Salad with Brie. They also have awesome french fries. They remind me of great chips you'd get at the chippy in the UK. We also held a 40th birthday party here & Darryl & all the staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. They made special "off menu" food for us & provided our guests with drink tickets. Everyone enjoyed the food so much that several friends/family members have since become regulars, too. Love it! read more

Wow. What a colosal disappointment. We were here a year ago and had the most spectacular experience. Ambience, service and food were all exceptional. So I brought my best friend and her husband here for her 69th birthday. WHAT HAPPENED? The music was alt rock played at a deafening level. So the ambience- not so much. Our waiter hovered too attentively while we waited for our friends and then we couldn't find her for stretches of time when we needed her. Like to get our order... But the HUGE disappointment was the food. The Mac and cheese was liquidy and did not really taste of... hmm... CHEESE. There was no seasoning. Not even salt. I had been dreaming of their delicious fish and chips all day so even after I clocked the outrageous price- $28 for fish and chips?? - I ordered. It arrived and the fish was a dark burnt color- when I expressed my alarm, the server explained that they made everything from scratch and so the color was dependant on what ingredients were used. I'm still trying to figure this out. I've always had fish and chips that had a golden yellow color. The birthday girl hates it when anyone makes a fuss so I didn't say anything, but when I took a bite it was an over fried,oily, tasteless mess. My fries were cold and old. And the " salad" was a small tablespoon of briny purple cabbage. My friend tasted and said she would eat it so we traded and I tried the Mac and cheese- ate three bites and gave up. Then my friend gave up on the fish and ate the rest of the Mac and cheese. I paid $150, went home and made myself a meal. Never again. Boo. read more

Ate here on a cool September Sunday evening with a group of friends who had all eaten here previously. The service was great. The room is cozy & eclectically decorated. The food was great. Specifically the fish & chips, chicken drummies with honey/hot, mac&cheese, double cheeseburger (one of the best burgers I've tasted in a while) & Caesar salad. The Auld Spot is one of the those cozy spots that make leaving the house on a cold night worth the while. The atmosphere and crowd of 20- 30 somethings is unpretentious and friendly. The bar menu and extensive drink list offer plenty of options perfect for a night out with friends. I recommend waiting a bit for the plaid covered booths, you'll find the cozy seat is worth the wait and perfect for a group of friends. I want to like this place, I really do. I have lots of friends and family along the Danforth, where there is an inexplicable shortage of decent pubs. The first time I had the chicken wings ("drummies") they were very good, but the next 4 times they were cold each time (yes, I am to blame for ordering the same sub-par dish so many times). The last time I went I decided it would be my final try, and I would oreder something other than chicken wings. I had the lamb shank, which was cool/cold and covered in a gravy that was also a bit cold. The mash potatoes were a bit above room temperature, and the veg was piping hot. There seem to be some timing issues in the kitchen. I finished less than half of my dinner, but the waitress didn't ask how my meal was, even when clearing away a nearly-full plate! I've given them too many chances, and been disappointed too many times. Allen's Pub and Dora Keogh are just up the street, and infinitely better. read more

3.5 (if I could) I came here for oysters with my buddy, they were 2.75 a piece when I was there but they are priced according to the market. We got a half dozen and two vodka martini's I don't know if its just me but I fucking love green Tabasco on oysters, and they had none they had red. Although this probably isn't a big deal, it is for me and I had somewhat of a grudge the rest of the night, next time I come here I will bring my own green Tabasco. I was a little disappointed with our martini's, they came in very fruity, shallow glasses, not at all like the manly martini glasses that James bond is so accustomed to. I noticed this in that my buddy drank his drink much faster than he normally does, and he usually drinks pretty fast. Although I didn't get anything else, and I really don't have much to complain about the green Tabasco thing really bothered me. All in all though it seems like a good place, a little too popular (crowded, all the time) but the oysters were good and the drink was fine too(although I don't know how you could fuck-up straight vodka) $40 for 6 oysters and 2 vodka martini's I will go there again for sure. They overcharge for drinks a little bit, a white Russian everywhere else has been 5.50 or similar cocktail price. They charge $10 for one here! and It's not like I asked for premium vodka or anything. This must be done to keep a certain clientele read more

A cup of kindness indeed. The Auld Spot is consistently solid and that's hard to pull off when you're an eternally packed pub so get there early! The draught selection is small, but top notch and decidedly different than most other bars focusing mostly on premium domestic for about $6 a pint. Have yourself a Welly if you've only tried in a bottle; it's a completely different experience. And scotch, yeah, you've got a great selection of single malts. Food selection again is small, but pretty solid as well. They make a mean Caesar and the mac 'n cheese w/ double-smoked bacon is a great pick-me-up, though they shouldn't have taken away the crab option 'cause that was crack in a crock. The music can be all over the map like others have mentioned, but in their own cool way if you ask me. You'll hear anything from Arcade Fire to Snoop in one night and possibly back-to-back. And, from personal experience, they really know how to host an informal, yet mostly-traditional Robbie Burns dinner. read more

I've now been a couple times to the Auld Spot, and both were excellent experiences. Their beef bourguignon is a delicious stew that has been ordered by someone at the table both times I've went. The Mac 'n' Cheese, while a dirt simple staple, has inspired a friend to try and replicate it while cooking at home (without success). It's that good. And their steak was actually excellent -- I'm mostly unforgiving when it comes to steak on a menu, and will judge a restaurant's whole menu based on their treatment of this simple but time-honoured slab of meat. Auld Spot, as a pub, nailed it. Good job. Asked for rare, got rare. Tender, very juicy, perfectly seasoned. Can't ask for more. I don't usually do reviews on bars or pubs because the times had can vary so vastly. There are so many factors that are different depending on each experience that any conclusions would be skewed and proven wrong the next time out. Factors such as alcohol level, the people you have in your company, how busy the bar is, whether there is a sporting event, if the kitchen is still open or not, and many others play a role in the experience. The reason I am reviewing the Auld Spot Pub is because of the washrooms. I was drinking and of course after a couple pints you have to relieve some tension. The first thing I noticed when I entered the washroom was how clean it was. No writting on the walls, no dust on the top of the stalls, just immaculately clean. The stalls were also made of a very light coloured wood which gave a very cozy feeling to it. That is when I noticed what kind of shocked me... No urinals! This was probably one of the only men's washrooms that I have been in that did not have at least one urinal. I actually turned around the verify that it said men on the door. Definitely a bold choice. When I went into the stall it was as if they had Mr. Clean hiding around the corner to sparkle and shine whenever someone heads back upstairs to the pub. It was probably one of the cleanest toilets outside of someone's house that I have ever had the pleasure to return some alcoholic beverage to. Aside from the washroom, the place was pretty nice. Booths, tall tables, the standard bar layout. It was actually the first pub I have been to that had Magners Irish Cider on tap instead of just Strongbow, which is a nice change. The service was very quick and the waitress was on top of our drinks. Of course it was 1:00am when we got there and the place was half empty. When we got there it was a younger college looking crowd, but the time last call was done with it was a much older group of people left. This cozy Danforth pub is a great spot for a beer and upscale pub grub. The bf and I shared the pulled pork sandwich and the mac and cheese. Pulled pork was so good I wish i ate the whole thing myself. The mac and cheese was only okay - a little bland. A bit too much mac, not enough cheese. Don't get me wrong, we still ate every bite. had the lamb chops and a bit disappointed . the dish was too busy, there was some kind of gravy, the chops were breaded tasted ok but i couldn't figure out were the bones were. the dish wasn't hot enough and must have sat for a while before arriving at my table. the brussel sprouts were fantastic and they had been roasted with the carrots. i asked for mashed potatoes and was given a very small dolup, again not hot enough. they need to rethink the dishes and improve the way they are served read more

I really do wish that my current hometown, Denver, had more places like this. This is the ideal rectangular shaped bar, with tasty craft brews and friendly bar staff. It's a must visit on your next time to Toronto. Do yourself a favor. Pony up at the bar, and have a conversation without looking at your cell phone. You will feel liberated, and you may even find out something new that isn't attached to a hash tag. Be warned, for those of you coming from the US, beer is ****ing expensive in Canada. Visited here for the first time today, after having passed it about a million times. We sat at a booth not far back from the open garage-type doors, which was fine because we weren't directly in the sun but there was still some fresh air. Server took a while to greet us (appeared she was the only one working), but once she did the rest of service was pretty prompt. Some other servers came in to help soon after. Pretty good selection of beer and my boyfriend and I were happy to see they had Pommies cider on tap! We ordered a poutine with pulled pork, and a really delicious salad with chicken.. I think it was called "fresh greens" or something. Both were VERY good, and pretty big portions as well. Was getting busy as we were leaving (about 7:00pm on a Thursday night), but the crowd was super diverse.. Families with kids, older couples, younger couples, groups of girls etc. Overall, I liked the vibe and the food was good! I certainly like the old Auld Spot on the Danny but it's not close to where I live so I;m glad they opened one in the hood. These guys know their food and booze, folks. The Chicken Pot Pie could feed a family of 4 (which is great for people like me who like to re-live the whole thing at lunch the next day). Also, Beef Bourguignon is 5 star. very rich. Went to the Auld Spot last night for the first time. It was busy. Loud. Service was friendly and then slow and then extremely prompt. I suggest ordering soon after you arrive. We didn't. Perhaps that's why we experienced the delay. I had an organic green salad which came with pickled beets and a delicious dressing. The oysters were also very tasty. I liked the blue walls and branches with lights on the ceiling. It was a bit loud for me, but all in all I had a good time. Also, the restrooms are very close together. When i was in the stall, I could so clearly hear a conversation between two men at a urinal I thought I was in the men's by mistake. Something to think about ladies. read more

Decent place to grab a drink on the Danforth, as there are not too many options nearby. They have a *very* small front patio with about 3 tables. The interior tries to look like a typical UK pub and somewhat succeeds. Not too much seating but seems to be a decent place for a quiet pint with friends. They seemed to be out of a lot of things that were listed on the menu. ("We don't have that today". "Or that") Otherwise the service was friendly and fairly efficient. Auld Spot is the best pub on the Danforth! There was a time when I was in the Danforth/Broadview area I would always get a drink at Allens, but then I found the Auld Spot and thank god. The Auld Spot has some of the best service and great food, plus they carry some great local beers and a few more 'off the grid'. They have a modest menu that has a selection of 'beefed up' pub fare and a few unique select entrees. Oysters are always tasty as well. When it comes to grabbing a beer, it is about getting a nice cold beverage but more about the service for the night, and the service at the Auld has always been amazing. Fast and they never forget about you. Which makes drinking beer easier and much more enjoyable. Grab a Wellington, sit back, and enjoy! read more
