Fraud Complaint Against La Mesa RV Location: 7430 Copley Park Pl, San Diego, CA 92111 Date of Incident: January/February 2025 Filed: February 21, 2025 I am submitting this complaint to report fraudulent practices by La Mesa RV in San Diego, CA, during the purchase of my first RV. While parts of my experience were positive, the subsequent actions of the dealership's staff were deceptive and unethical, resulting in unauthorized charges and misleading financial terms. Initially, my experience with Erik, a sales representative, was excellent. Within an hour, he guided me to an RV that suited my needs as a first-time buyer, and I felt confident it was the right choice. The agreed purchase price was $89,995, and I provided a $1,000 deposit. However, this is where the issues began. The finance manager, Leo, processed my deposit and, without my knowledge or consent, added a $2,850 sealant detail to the purchase agreement. I never agreed to this charge and would not have, as two of my closest friends own RV detailing businesses, making this an unnecessary and exorbitant expense. When I received my initial financing offer, I was quoted a 9% interest rate with a monthly payment of $765, based on my 720 credit score and 25% down payment. Three days later, Tyler, another representative, contacted me to inform me the rate had increased to 12%. When I challenged this as unreasonable, he lowered it to 11%, citing a supposed bank rebate of 2%. Though skeptical, I reluctantly agreed, intending to refinance within a year. On February 1, 2025, I arrived to sign the loan documents, only to discover the purchase price had inexplicably increased beyond the agreed $89,995. The paperwork provided no clear explanation--no breakdown for taxes, registration, or title fees was listed. Upon closer review, I confirmed that the additional $2,850 sealant detail had been embedded in the total, a charge I had neither requested nor approved. Financing this amount at 11% interest over 240 months is absurd and something no reasonable consumer would agree to. I retained all loan documents, which my attorney has reviewed and deemed clear evidence of fraud, giving me strong grounds for a lawsuit. Additionally, a cursory glance at La Mesa RV's BBB and Yelp reviews reveals a pattern of similar complaints, suggesting this dealership has a history of deceptive practices. Seeking resolution, I met with Regional Manager Sam Gammo to present the fraudulent documents and discuss the overcharges. His response was dismissive and unprofessional--he refused to review the paperwork, explain the discrepancies, or engage in any meaningful dialogue. Instead, he stated, "You signed it, so tough luck," before abruptly leaving the room. This was the worst customer service I have ever encountered. It is shocking that a company with 50 years in business continues to engage in such blatant and fraudulent practices without accountability. Their poor reputation, evidenced by countless negative reviews, seems irrelevant to them, likely because they prioritize short-term profits over integrity. I urge the appropriate authorities to investigate La Mesa RV and put an end to their predatory behavior. I am prepared to pursue legal action and provide all relevant documentation to support this claim. read more

We were most pleased with our experience at La Mesa. The building and facilities are impressive, and even offer free brats and hotdogs daily. Their inventory was incredible, having 100's of units to go through. Upfront, we met the best salesman (Maurice) for our RV. He immediately made us feel comfortable and we told him EXACTLY what we wanted. He didn't try to show us units we were not interested in or up-sell us. We had searched their inventory online prior to going in and we also told him the max budget we wanted to stay within. After discovering the unit was actually at the other La Mesa location, our salesman offered to drive over to pick it up for us. We got the unit back and immediately fell in love. Talked numbers and told them what we had to put down. The finance manager took extra time out of his day to talk about different tow vehicle options for us. Lauren (in fiancé) also made us feel comfortable when signing paperwork. We bought the unit in AZ but live out of state, so we hoped to have unit ready within a few days so we could be on the road ASAP. They fit us in to pick up the rig within 3 days (we were told this usually takes at least a week to have them be ready for delivery). Again, when we went to pick up the rig, our salesman was there (even though it was his day off) to make sure all went smooth. Lauren again was very helpful in answering any questions we had. She also didn't try to pressure us to buy extended warranties, clear coat, etc. (although we did buy them) but she did not pressure us. Everybody was also very friendly when we were telling them our travel plans...they told us RV-friendly routes and even gave us a travel map book to go by. Kenny (in service) did our walk through and he did more than meet our expectations. He spend at least 1 1/2 hours with us, answering any details and made us feel comfortable. This was our first Class A unit and although owning travel trailers before, the information was overwhelming. Kenny was patient and did not make us feel dumb for asking many questions. After buying the unit, we were told we had 15 days within delivery to fix any kinks we notice. Since we live out of state, we contacted Kenny and Danny about getting those (minimal) things looked at the next time we were in Phoenix (which will be in March). They were very accommodating and also have answered questions over the phone about using special features with the rig (without feeling annoyed). Again, overall our experience was fantastic. We will go to La Mesa every spring (we are snowbirds) to have them perform all the servicing on the rig. It is unfortunate to read the negative reviews with this place, as we experienced such a positive one. We will most likely buy our future rigs with La Mesa. They worked hard to please us and have deserved our trust. Will report more once we go through our walk-thru in March. read more

My wife and I were in the market for a new Motor coach and like a lot of people we were in a unique situation with being self employed and having trades that were not quite where they offered equity to use as a down payment. We went to several RV dealers and heard the same thing over and over that our "DEAL" would be a challenge to accomplish and never felt like they wanted to even try. Then we met John Drenk at La Mesa RV in Phoenix. John told us the same thing that our deal would be a challenge, however he was the first person who made us feel like he was up to the challenge. We told John what we were looking for, gave him the information on our trades, told him how much we had to put down and what we could afford to pay each month. John said to let him work on it. With in a very short time John called us to say he had a couple of coaches for us to look at. This was late in the day but we were on our way. We arrived just before closing and looked at the coaches. One a 2007 Monaco Knight was perfect. We took it for a test drive and it drove Great! We decided on the Monaco and since it was close to closing time we figured we would have to come back to work out the deal. Nope John and the rest of the people needed to answer our questions and Finnish the deal stayed and never once made us feel rushed or that we were keeping them from ending there day. Purchasing an RV is a big decision and everyone at La Mesa RV took there time to make sure this was the correct "DEAL" for us. John introduced us to James who went over the financing with us and took time to explain a great extended warranty to us us, which we purchased and we highly recommend, which gave us additional piece of mind with our purchase. The paperwork was then forwarded to Mike "The Finance Guy" who went to work for us and the deal was done. We are the proud new owners of a 2007 Monaco and could not be happier. We meet with our service advisor Penny and went over some modifications we wanted to make. Her and Allen (the gentleman who will do our orientation) spent a long time going through the coach with us and were not just patient but helpful with our decisions. Dear La Mesa RV, we made lemonade, but not with your help... Purchased a new 2017 Tiffin Phaeton 40AH in January 2017 from La Mesa RV Quartzsite. It took 4 months but we finally now have our coach to where it should have been when we received it. To give credit due, the original sales and finance staff were professional. However, the delivery/service was awful, either intentionally or the result of a chaotic/understaffed environment. The PDI and walk-through were haphazard and incomplete. We were subsequently forced to leave the dealership location prematurely with major defects dismissed as "normal". Inspection of coach several weeks later at a FMCA rally in Chandler, Arizona by Tiffin and La Mesa technical staff mandated coach be returned to the factory for repair of two slide issues and a buckling porcelain tile floor.. Round trip of 5,000 miles Lodi, California to Red Bay, Alabama for repair was covered out-of-pocket by us. La Mesa RV customer relations denied reimbursement for expenses despite acknowledging that they should "make it right". The Phaeton is a wonderful coach. We are now "happy campers". However, if I had to do it again I would buy the coach and take delivery from a dealership that is close to the Tiffin factory in Red Bay, Alabama. The advantages would be lower cost, proximity to the factory during the initial discovery period and presumably a more ethical dealership. If so inclined one can also observe the coach being built on the assembly line. Based on our experience with pre-delivery inspection and repair we will not be using any La Mesa RV facility for service. read more

Wow, what a fantastic experience thanks to our amazing sales person Tyler Riveria (who is now working out of the Mesa store). Without Tyler this would have never happened! We had been shopping online and locally in Maryland where we live for a new Class A (ours was 12 yrs old). We found Tyler by finding a 2014 Phaeton online we wanted more info on and called on it and we were lucky enough to get Tyler. He walked me through that RV and also may other similar ones on the lot. This RV we were interested in was taken to a local show and was on the floor to sell the next day. Tyler he drove to the show to take not only photos of it for us but also extremely detailed videos of the inside and outside. It felt like we were walking through every ounce of the RV with him in person. We were hooked and made the plans at that point to fly to AZ to drive it back to MD. Tyler send us paperwork so we could secure it before it went on sale at the show. We flew to AZ and Tyler picked us up and walked us through every step. We also had an amazing experience with the Orientation gentleman Alan who too was amazing at his job! I would not only recommend Tyler as the ONLY RV salesman I would ever work with when buying an RV but also LaMesa their very competitive pricing and their principals and work ethic were fantastic and made it completely worth the trip to AZ from MD! I bought a Used Fifth wheel on 3-1-2016 , I was so Excited (But waiting for the part It is as Is) I was So Surprised That Penny Forray The service advisory and her team HAS A LOT OF MY RESPECT AND GRATITUDE ( A SUPERIOR TEAM With Allan and Radley) wouldn't let it out until it was totally ready and checked out, delivery was on the day scheduled , delayed a little, but once it was checked out, Allan came out to help with the set-up because of it getting late in the day. Had a few problems ,but with the Help Of Penny she sent Radley out right away They have pride in there quality of work, and the most caring and helpful team, If there was a score of 1-10 I would say Radley deserves a 12 he takes his time to assure in making it totally READY AND WON'T STOP UNTIL IT MEETS HIS STANDARDS.,Great satisfactory work and Pride. At the beginning of summer, we purchased our 40' Crescendo from you in Phoenix. We were trying to get away for the summer, when we had a problem with the large, almost full coach length slide on the driver's side. We were told it was a substantial repair which would take a long time to repair. I explained that we wanted to depart in the next few days. Penny, in service, introduced us to Radley, the technician for such repairs. Penny took a personal view of our problem. Radley dod so as well, saying to Penny, "I would like to take this one personally. I think I can help Perry & Sylvia get away on schedule. Radley not only gave it personal attention, he worked past dinnertime getting it done, allowing us to get away on schedule. I think Penny and Radley are outstanding, and want to give them praise and thanks. They are the kind of people that cause people like us to recommend La Mesa as a place to purchase RVs. They proved that interest in the customer does not end upon closing the sale. I wish, by way of this email, to give them a pat on the back. Our interaction and dealings with LaMesa RV has been so wonderful it is shocking. I have had dealings with other companies and it would start out good till they had my money and went down hill fast. The sales agent was wonderful, showing us all the vehicles in our price range and with the particulars we wanted in several different formats. Then the financial gentleman was very detailed, covered all the options and gave a us a fantastic warranty package. We had our walk through when we picked it up & it was throe but a lot to grasp at once. We had our maiden voyage and upon return we had a list of several problems. The service department got us in right away and said it would be ready in a week, no if ands or buts about it. There was an issue about the warranty coverage on one item which with a consult with the manufacture rep, was settle to everyone's satisfaction. Totally polite, efficient, no excuses about anything. Everyone treated us like we were special and cared about and our RV was important to them as it was to us. Loved doing business with them and recommend them to anyone & everyone. read more

several weeks ago I brought in my 2018 fleetwood flare for a retractable door step problem. an appointment was made and the RV was brought in. At the time I thought I was going to have to pay for a deductible on a extended service plan that I had bought from LA mesa. I figured if that was as bad as it got i'd be okay. Upon arrival I contacted my service advisor, Matt Vronoski, who did did some research and discovered the part was still under full factory warranty for both parts and labor. he also stated that due to factory paperwork, it might take about a week and half before all the work was completed. I figured that would probably be par for the course and would just have to wait until the work was completed. I was amazed when Matt called 3 days later and stated the RV was done and ready to pick-up. when I arrived Matt also informed me about how that particular system works and what to expect if I ran into another problem in the future. The experience with Matt was great and would look forward to working with him the future for any other RV issues. read more
