4 star for views inside and out. It's a big place and decorated with the family's photos and paintings tracing back to their European origin. 3 star for food. Tried seafood crepe, salmon, and bacon and egg during brunch. They all came with the same sides and the zucchini is a bit bitter. The sauce is buttery but not much creativity. The warned the bread for the table which is nice. The restaurant owner is an lady in the 80's. She loves to talk about the pictures and paintings inside the restaurant and her family.

Terrible experience! We had a terrible experience at La Mere Michelle on Mother's day. I had booked a table for lunch for the three of us (my wife and son). When we arrived for lunch, there was no one at the reception. After waiting a bit, an older lady came by. It is hard for me to describe what happened next, because I have never experienced anything like this in 23 years of living in the bay area. This lady had a permanent scowl on her face. There was no greeting, no welcome to the restaurant. Instead, we were met with a tone of voice that seemed demeaning and condescending. She almost shouted at me when she asked for my name. Because it was mother's day, I had a camera bag with me that I had put down on the floor as I was waiting. She shoved my bag away with her feet. It was so bizarre. We thought she was having a bad day and decided to ignore it. We got a table, and we thought things would improve from here on. However, the server we got seemed to act the same. No greeting, no welcome. She just gave us the menu. No explanation of the menu or the specials of the day. When she came back, I asked her what came with a particular dish I was interested in. She replied that all dishes came with x y and z (I don't remember what they were) in the same condescending kind of tone. Even my wife commented to me that that just sounded so rude. From then on no one came by to ask how the food was, even though she did the same for the table next to us. The water glasses were never filled. When we finished, she came by and handed us the bill. We were thinking of getting some dessert, but this was never an option for us it seems. When we mentioned that to her, she said something like: "oh I'll get you dessert if you want". Of course we were never going to get any dessert at this place after this. We have never felt so insulted at any restaurant. We have lived here for over two decades and this has never happened to us. It was so bad that for the first time in my life I refused to tip and instead wrote an explanation, on the bill, of how we felt. I can't help but feel that somehow we were racially discriminated against. Now that I have looked around for reviews on Google, I see other mentions of racist owner. Stay away.

2.5 stars. Dined at La Mère Michelle for a belated celebration for Father's Day with Dad and the boys on Saturday, July 9, 2022. Dad wanted to go to a restaurant that served escargot and duck à l'orange. Based on the menu posted on their website, Dad chose to go here as it had been decades since his last visit. This was my and the boys' first time. Venue: Situated on Big Basin Way with a parking lot, we found a space right in front of the entrance. Upon arrival, I was surprised to find that we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Our server said that we missed the 5 PM rush that emptied out for the comedy show at The Mountain Winery. No complaints here. Dad preferred the privacy and quiet. We were seated next to a front open window table, one of the best places in the whole restaurant to enjoy a meal. The interior decor was standard for a classic French eatery. I didn't see the back dining room, but the foyer and bar appeared to be the original, but well kept furniture and ornaments from the 1970's or 1980's. What was shocking to me was the filthy women's bathroom - upon entry, the first thing I noticed was the disgustingly dirty toilet in the first stall. I skipped that one for the other, which was better, but you could see the black mildew ring forming there. Clearly, cleaning the commodes has not been a priority of theirs. GROSS! Food: Heads-up; the online menu is misleading as it has many more offerings than the actual menu. Best to call ahead if you are craving escargot because they were not serving snails that night. Dad was disappointed. He ended up with the Chicken & Vegetables Soup of the Day which was nothing special at all. Both of the boys ordered the Classic Caesar Salad which they enjoyed. For my Appetizer, I had the Assorted Pates which came with a slice of Venison Galantine and another of Mousse of Duck and Goose Liver. The latter was my favourite between the two because of the creaminess, but Dad preferred the taste of the Venison Galantine. For Entrées, my eldest and I ordered Filet Mignon, but he had the Blue Cheese Demi-Glace and I couldn't pass up my favourite Cognac Peppercorn Sauce. Both were good, but the Blue Cheese Demi-Glace was the winner between the two. My steak also had a little bit of fat, unfortunately. My youngest was very happy with the Chicken Tarragon. Surprisingly, Dad skipped both duck dishes and opted to try the Wiener Schnitzel. Sadly, he was not impressed. Service: Our waiter was nice and attentive. My only complaint was that I had to practically force a recommendation out of him to decide between the French Onion Soup Gratin and the Assorted Pates (I'm always boggled by servers who don't offer their personal opinion on dishes.). A couple of days after our dinner, the restaurant texted me because they inadvertently charged me three separate amounts; $28,549.12 and $28,800.00 (both erroneous) in addition to my $288.00 total (An aggregate of $57,637.12 charged to my credit card). An honest human mistake it was, I completely understand, and I appreciate that they contacted me right away to inform me of the issue. The matter was resolved by mid-week; however, it did cause an inconvenience with a pending charge on my card. I definitely will not make a special trek to return to La Mere Michelle. If in the neighbourhood and craving their Filet Mignon with Blue Cheese Demi-Glace, I would probably check out the lady's room before sitting at a table to eat. If their latrines are in the same condition as I saw them, I would lose my appetite to dine here again.

Just happened to see the open sign on this place. I haven't been there in 20 years and was on a date with my husband so we went in. The place was empty and so 80s or even 70s at first I was not sure. We were seated and we ordered. The service was amazing. A professional waiter that made me feel very special and nostalgic for the decadence of a romantic night out with my love. The martini's were perfectly chilled and the food was amazing. I can not remember the last time I had such an incredible meal. Wow! and Wow! Don't let the bygone look of the place fool you, it is a real gem. It looks like it will be out of business soon so check it out before it's too late and it like so many others will be gone.

La Mere Michelle hosted our wedding reception on Saturday Feb. 29th and it was an amazing night! Chef Marc, Madame Michelle, and their whole team really made this special for us. We asked our guests to get to the restaurant at 5:30, and they already had a special room all setup for us. I had been working with Marc in the days leading up to the wedding, he was a ton of help. Helped us get the room exactly how we wanted it and was even sending videos of the setup the day before. His great communication and confidence in the success of the night really helped put our nerves at ease. After our guests visited for a bit and had their wine served to us by a team of their staff, we started off with a delicious wedge salad. It had the perfect balance of Roquefort dressing, bacon, and bleu cheese crumbles. There was even someone going around with fresh cracked pepper offered to each guest! All the salads came out in a timely manner, with the bride and myself the groom being served first. The plates were quickly cleared when guests were done and it was on to the next course. Each guest was given a choice of a chicken, steak, or salmon dish. What I especially appreciated was that the guests had their orders taken on the spot - none of that needing to pick your option weeks/months ahead of time! Personally I was planning on the salmon, but that night I decided to go with the chicken. These entrees were served traditionally and also came out on time, with no guests having to wait any longer than the amount of time it took to walk back from the kitchen. The wine and water was kept pouring throughout this whole time. After dinner we were all served champagne for a nice toast and some speeches. The whole dinner, from the moment we arrived, we were waited on by at a minimum three staff. Not like they would wait other tables and come check on us when needed - they were there to help the whole dinner! They were also serving at the bar just outside the room when our guests wanted something different than beer. It was a really nice personal touch to have assistance the whole night. All the staff was nice and friendly, they were talking to us and the guests and added to the conversations but without being too much. Madame Michelle was also making her rounds, talking to the guests and giving us good marriage advice while also making sure everything was as perfect as we expected during this wedding reception. All in all this was a great place to have our dinner at. Chef Marc handled all the Little Details and provided us some much needed stress relief. The food was delicious, the service top notch, and everything was above and beyond what we expected. Looking forward to eating here again on our next trip to Saratoga!

La Mere Michelle is a very cute classic French bistro in Saratoga's charming little downtown. We went on a lovely warm evening and were seated by the open windows. Our server, Maury, was absolutely delightful. The food was equally delightful. Mushroom soup: I absolutely love mushroom soup and this one was pretty good. It was thick but not super creamy. It was a great start to the meal. Apple & endive salad (with bleu cheese): A very light salad with different flavors and textures that come from the various ingredients. The walnuts were a nice touch. Duck breast with Montmorency sauce: This was delicious! I love duck as a meat but it's often mishandled. The duck here was cooked perfectly - still a little pink and tender. The sauce was nicely tart without being overly so. I loved the well-seasoned vegetables as well. 12 oz. NY steak with mushroom demi-glace: Steak was a perfect medium rare. The sauce was very good too, a perfect demi-glace. Desserts (coconut cake & berry tart): Both were very good! It wasn't a huge slice (thank goodness) and was a perfect end to the meal.

Thank you, valet guy! Once seated, we marveled at the beautiful setting and service. We had a nice table against the window and our expert server, Eli, was warm, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. Actually everyone on the staff was kind and attentive, and they all seemed to enjoy their jobs which you don't see too often these days. From start to finish the food was exceptional. The canapés in the 1st course were amazing and my favorite bite of the night was the tiny delicate pillow canapé with goat cheese and agave. Then for course #2 my wife had oysters and I went with a porcini mushroom orecchiette. we loved the pastas we used to get when the less formal sister restaurant Pasta Armelino used to be across the street, and this pasta would have been perfect for that menu. I had the Ling Cod entree and my wife had the duck. If we had to name 1 critical note about our experience at the Plumed Horse it would be that both of our main courses seemed a little bland. My wife would have wanted some acidity in her duck dish like from a fruit like cherry or plum, which are often paired with duck. Similarly my Ling Cod wanted something more too, whether spice or sweetness or something. But both dishes were cooked perfectly- we were just left wanting a little bit more. A highlight of the meal was our Pommes Paillasson side, which is like extra crispy French fries but with rich mashed potatoes in the middle. Heavenly. We finished with amazing desserts - my wife had an apple soufflé and I had a deconstructed s'mores - both were amazing. We had champagne toasts (my wife had a traditional champagne and mine was without alcohol), a glass of wine (wife), a spirit-free cocktail (me again), amazing food and an excellent experience. Lurvely meal.

The 4 course tasting menu was nice in the sense that you can choose for each course (except the first starter bite course), and we chose different items to try more dishes/share. We opted for the uni/crab souffle (each), duck and coulotte for entrees, and black sesame passion and caramel apple souffle for dessert. Also got the crispy eggplant as an additional side. Honestly, everything was pretty underwhelming/on the saltier end. The uni/crab souffle was pretty cloying and hard to really taste the uni/crab amidst the fondue. Entrees were ok, but not impressive. Dessert wise, the black sesame passion pastries were a bit dense, and the souffle was too cloyingly sweet. The crispy eggplant may have been our favorite out of all the dishes. Our cocktail drinks were really solid (pink is the new black + allegory) and a highlight of the meal. We were also pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary champagne for the birthday celebration, though it would have been nice to receive this at the start of the meal rather than the very end. Note: we were unpleasantly surprised that the water was extra $9 in the final tab (we were not given any other options/heads up beforehand)

We booked a reservation and arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation time, however we were not seated until almost 20 minutes after our reservation had started. If you go to La Fondue, I would plan for about 2 hours for your meal if you choose one of the coursed meals. While the restaurant was slow to seat us, the team was attentive once we were seated. Most of us ordered the fondue feast, and since we were a party of 8 we got the choice of 2 types of cheeses. We chose the stinking rose and four cheese, both of which were delicious. A selection of bread, potatoes, pickles, and fruits are brought out to dip in the cheese, and the staff will bring out more on request. Most of our party got the fondue feast, so there was lots of variety in the types of meats we were served. Some of the standouts were the duck and the boar. The spatulas given were a little difficult to use when flipping the meats, but other than that our grilling experience went smoothly. Our meal ended with chocolate fondue, served with a wide variety of desserts to dip in it. We chose the decadent one and chocotastic flavors, both of which were delicious. My favorites to dip in the fondue were the fruits, but they offer everything from strawberries to pound cake to cream puffs to cookie dough bites! Overall, I would definitely come back, but likely during a less busy time to avoid waiting so long before being seated.

My salad with had baby lettuce, toasted pecans, and shaved feta was the best salad I've had all year. The sea bass I got for the main course was particularly outstanding. I was informed that the sea bass was a staple of the daily dinner menu, so I can't wait to get this dish again. The brick walls and blackboards looked familiar. There's still a long table in the middle. With the new chairs and tablecloths, the place looked more classy than before. It's quite a nice place to have a quiet, intimate dinner with the causal, yet upscale vibe. There're about eight tables (1-2 persons@) while we're there, and service was attentive, despite having only one server. For the $80 dinner for 2 special, we got to pick one item from each of the first two selections to share, two entrees, and one beignet each. We also added a beet salad to share, and my husband had the wine pairing. For our first course, the two baked oysters were cheesy and rich. It would be better if they were bigger, though. Our second course, the caramelized onion soup was perfectly prepared, one of the best I had ever had. The beet salad was refreshing, and the dressing was so tasty that it made arugula tasted good. I had the sole as my entree; it was cooked well, light and delicious. I took a bite of my husband's slow braised short ribs; it was tender and flavorful. The beignets were delightful, and paired really well with the dark chocolate and salted caramel sauce. I really appreciated that all their hot dishes came out really hot. It was honestly one of the most uncomfortable and disappointing dining experiences we've had. As strong supporters of local restaurants, this was especially disheartening given how much we used to enjoy coming here. Sadly, this experience has permanently changed how we feel about this place, and we won't be returning. That is a dang good martini (and most places miss with this!) I'm not much of a "drinker" so that should stand for something! Ambiance It was the right type of moody, and I loved that people dressed their best and some were a bit most casual (in my group), and all felt welcomed. Though the lamps on the large table blocked our view or conversation so we did move it to the side but I liked the vibe of the table. Also, the bathroom is clean and selfie worthy (lol!). Service Incredible! Our server, I forgot his name but tall man if that helps. Incredibly knowledgeable, and this establishment does not write down your order, so it takes good memory skills to take so many orders! But even the greeter was so kind and sweet, a young gentleman with curly hair. They were so accommodating because at the last minute, we had some trouble in paradise and needed to push our reservation to an earlier time. They were able to accommodate us and I am extremely grateful! Now getting there, we had no idea that the roads on Santa Cruz would be so traffic heavy (dead stop and I believe an accident too!), so we were exceptionally late (I am a stickler for being on time so you can only imagine the stress I felt). They called to not only check and we were able to communicate our eta etc. I would have completely understood if they canceled our time slot, but instead, they went above and beyond. I just want to say again to the manager, each staff that assisted us, whether it be checking on our eta, hosting us, making our food, taking our picture, it left such a memorable impression and was the highlight our weekend trip. I have since referred this spot to my colleagues looking to try a superb establishment! Thank you so much once again for exceeding our expectations and working with us. I hope to be back for future dinner dates!

Every table and bar seat taken, a bit loud, but also because of the live music which was a nice touch and enjoyable. The food was quite good. Highlights were the gigante bean soup, which is a nice hearty bean soup with big chunks of ham hock and served with a shatteringly crisp epi which I loved. Great flavor and very artfully arranged. Def would order again. Also tried the mussels which came out with a heaping serving which was great. Only nits were a little more broth would have been nice and seasoning, the mussels were a little bland and slightly too much mustard tones. Also seemed like it could have been hotter. For dinner, I had the fish and chips and the fish was some of the most delicate fried fish I've ever had. Amazing! Mushy peas were ok, needed a little more salt maybe and wasn't overly a fan of the sweet potato chips. My wife had the burger which was top notch, excellent and her fries were the kind I love. Crisp, thin and salty. There was plenty for me to eat her fries with my fish. Dessert was a very nice chocolate mouse with salted marcona almonds on top. The combo of sweet and salty was excellent and a great way to finish the meal. Service was also excellent. Our server was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and noticed this morning I received a $20 off dessert if we come back in a month. Nice touch to have repeat customers. Lovely dinner and experience!

And the outdoor patio is delightful. We were excited to see one of our favorite wines on the menu, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo; but alas they were out of it !!!!! groan. Second, we were happy to see real spaghetti carbonara on the menu (not alfredo). But alas, it came too cold!!! groan. We had to send it back for re heating and the result was it was returned a bit dried out. Third, my eggplant was hot, ample and delicious. I shared it with a tablemate. Sadly, though, it came without bread. groan. I mentioned to the waiter that I had expected bread so I wouldn't have to leave the sauce; but he said the order does not come with bread. groan. jeesh! I was also disappointed not to see sfincione on the menu. It had been offered at the enoteca in San Jose. They offer a menu grouping called pinza, but I have no idea what that is and there is no written description. The waiters were very young, inexperienced and uninterested in customer service. How does this place stay in business?

The quality of the meat is honestly on another level -- super tender, rich, and full of flavor. You can really tell they focus on premium cuts and attention to detail. Service was also top-notch. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, and made great recommendations without being pushy. It's definitely on the pricier side, but for the overall experience -- food, ambiance, and service -- it feels worth it. If you're in the Bay Area and looking for a high-end steakhouse, this spot should absolutely be on your list.

Paired with the horse radish and the au jus, it was the perfect combination for bringing out the maximum flavors of the meat. Caesar salad- Can never miss! Perfectly savory and really opens up your appetite when you're hungry for what's to come. Popcorn crab- I liked this dish the most. The crab was perfectly fried and was accompanied with an extremely creamy aioli that I can still taste. The batter was nice and light and the chunks of crab were huge and sweet. You don't even need a sauce you can just pop it in your mouth on its own and it'll still be delicious!
