Hey...what happened??!! It's been about 1-2 mos. since I've been by. The croissants look deflated (the crispy golden puffy croissant are gone) and half the size they used to be. The almond ones seems to be missing the almond filling...the pastry case seems to be minimally filled...the pastries seem to have lost their appeal. Has the pastry chef left? Has management decided to cut costs and cut size? This used to be my go-to bakery. what happened to the french speaking staff. please...bring back the old pastry chef and the previous recipes and portions! read more

I came in here for breakfast and when I picked up my fork to put the last bite of omelet in my mouth, a large cockroach scurried out from under my food. I killed it with my napkin and brought it to the counter. They were apologetic and gave me a refund and offered me anything behind the counter as an apology (I couldn't stomach anything, so I turned them down), but I won't be back. read more

I often go here when I telework. It's really pretty good for that. I can usually find a small table in a corner next to an outlet and for most of the day, there is a reasonable level of din that makes it possible for me to make phone calls and hear and be heard, while and not disturbing other clientele. Throughout the day, I'll get various things to eat or drink. I used to work at a La Madeleine spinoff when I was a kid, and so I'm very partial to the standards: French onion soup, any of the cream soups, the quiches and croques, and the Caesar salad. I like the country bread (30% wheat, 70% white) and the French brew coffee. They are all pretty solid - nothing amazing, but reliably good. I've been getting a "duet magnifique" which is half a sandwich, a small Caesar, and a cup of soup (there are a few other choices but the point is sandwich plus pick two other items), and that satisfies all different parts of my palate. I'm able to resist the bakery items - I like them all, but I'm just not that susceptible to them. However, the other day, I saw an advertisement for a new "orange dream cake." I dropped some insane amount of money for a small slice for a late afternoon treat, and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. Rich, dense, infused with a lovely orange and almond flavor, amazing moist but crumby texture. Just a touch too much whipped cream, but that's not really a big deal. I don't need a slice every day, but it really hit the spot with an afternoon coffee. The staff is fine; in the past, there have been some rudeness issues, but lately, just fine. They don't seem too happy, but I don't think that's to be expected. It also seems that there is always some intra-staff friction between managers and employees, but maybe I'm just reading into that because I work for a union. read more

Simple good food using fresh ingredients. The omelette was fluffy and paired great with a croissant and coffee. Service was fast, friendly and gave me a to go cup for coffee. I hadn't eaten here before but will be back. read more

The customer service at this place is really lacking. I tried to order a chicken friand and the manager was less than apologetic that they didn't have any. He just said, "We don't have any and they take 25 minutes to make." Okay....so make me one. Additionally, the person in the back let a beeping sound continue for at least 10 minutes. It was incredibly annoying. Finally, another employee asked the lady in the back to turn it off. It seems like nobody likes working at this place. This place is so understaffed and ridiculously slow. This is the third time we've tried in as many months. We've tried at different times of day, peak and off-peak and the story has always been the same. We're currently into a 25 min wait for a sandwich. Everyone else is done eating. I really do like this place but today I found the service to be challenging. The salad preparer was very very angry. The customer in front of me requested a Caesar salad with no cheese or croutons. The preparer started cussing under his breath, turned around and went into the kitchen to get a new bag of plain salad. He prepared the salad and kept cussing under his breath. It was quite disturbing. I asked the lady in front of me if he is OK, he seems very angry with you. She did not respond. Maybe he's having a bad day maybe I should come back and see how his attitude is in the future. Also the manager kept rushing me through the line. Horrendous service; waiting for a simple pesto pasta for an hour. We purposely came here thinking it will be faster instead of other restaurants in Reston Town Center. Watched a waiter clean up a patron's food while the person has not finished his lunch and not even saying sorry when the patron came back with his glass of water. The desserts are fabulous. I love the mini lemon tarts, and they have tasty lemon flavored whipped cream on top. I have had an entree there twice. The Croque Monsieur was just okay - very heavy. The Brie and turkey sandwich was good but not amazing. read more

I am responsible for ordering catering for my company located in Reston, VA. We end up ordering from la Madeleine at least 4 times a month if not more. Since I have been ordering from them, I have created an amazing relationship with the catering manager, Kristina. She is not only super easy to get a hold of (I either email/text or call in my order), but she suggests new menu items for our employees/clients, she's always super responsive, always on time if not early; I know I can always rely on her and la Madeleine for excellent food and customer service. She and her staff have gone out of their way to get us last minute orders and even provide incentives for future orders. The manager even personally greeted me one weekend when I visited with some friends and gave us complimentary %/$$ off our meal. The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. There are many choices for catering in our area, but la Madeleine is always upping their game with our company to consistently win our business. I couldn't be happier and I really enjoy working with the staff, especially Kristina. She is a breath of fresh air when customer service these days really lacks, she has gone above and beyond. This place is gross! I ordered a coffee. The man behind the register (who also happened to be the manager) handed me a cup and it had lipstick on the rim ;/ I asked for a clean cup and he cracked a joke about how it's the ladies' fault for wearing lipstick. I got some coffee that was lukewarm. I told the guy who went and got a fresh pot that was also cold. I'm definitely staying away from this location from now on. read more

I love to go for breakfast/brunch, but something is happening with their management lately. Very disappointed the last 3 visits recently. Service has been terrible. Cannot even keep their coffee and creamers stocked and have to ask and wait. Got order wrong on my breakfast today and delivered my eggs a full 15 minutes before my friend's which was only two over-easy eggs. Was done eating before she got her plate after having to go ask for it. Got a quiche earlier in week and it was terrible! I agree with Nat G. - "going downhill." read more

Hubby and I had lunch here, I had the tuna on a croissant, he had the quiche Lorraine. Both were yummy. We then went over to the bakery side and brought home a baguette and a strawberry napoleon for him and a slice of coconut cake for me, it was a little different than the usual coconut cake, very good. First time to the Reston location with a friend. There were no menus available and we had no idea how to proceed. We found a trio menu and finally found someone (not an employee) who gave us the full menu. Then we could not figure out where to stand in line or how to order- it was very confusing and no one was helpful. The food was ok. As we were eating, the staff was clearing tables and the noise was awful. They just dumped the plates in a bin - having worked in several restaurants, this is totally unnecessary. You can easily stack dishes neatly and quietly. The noise from the dishes in the kitchen being bussed was unreal. I would never go back. read more

I went here for the first time today and was under whelmed. I was expecting a French experience. I was expecting at the very least to be able to sit down and enjoy a cup of espresso. We were "greeted" at the door by a very rude man. After asking him politely how the ordering process worked there and saying it was our first time visiting he replied obnoxiously " In America??! haha." Then put a menu in our hands and said what do you want?. We were no further than two steps in the door. The ordering process and first impression was less welcoming than a inner-city McDonalds. We proceeded to order a French Eggs Benedict and a make your own omelette. When approaching the counter a very sweet lady took my cappuccino order. You seat yourself and basically serve your self. I carried my coffee silverware and plates to the table/ cafeteria style ( not at all french.....) The omelette was tasty, the cappuccino was tasty too but the Eggs Benedict was not appealing. The eggs were hard boiled and the hollandaise sauce was out of a can. All in all the atmosphere was lacking in experience and allure, the food was mediocre and the service was not good. If you are in Reston and have the option go to Mon Ami Gabi instead. read more

First of all, we couldn't have ordered a more simplistic meal. 1 cup and 1 bowl of the potato soup and a caesar salad with an extra cup of dressing on the side. A monkey could get this straight. However, the incompetent woman I told this information to passed it along to what looked to be the manager who was helping out but she instead said french onion soup. Really? How does potato soup sound anything remotely like french onion. Also, the manager looking fellow specifically stated that he had put the extra cup of dressing in the bag as our order was to go. Upon further inspection, when we got home of course, we found no extra cup of dressing. To top it all off, it took two people to work the register and figure out how to tally up the bill. There was a total of three people working behind the counter today and only us and another couple in line. How does a place like this stay in business.
