I love coming here to eat while I read or work. The food, drinks and pastries are amazing, and the ambiance is so chill it's perfect for a solo date. The customer service is typically always on point as well. I deducted one star bc during a recent visit there was ham in my omelet, which I only asked for tomatoes, onions and spinach (I don't eat pork at all). Thankfully I didn't get sick but hopefully they'll do better about keeping ingredients separate to avoid a more serious incident down the road. read more

Craving for breakfast this morning, and remembering we wanted to try La Madeleine, we finally made it, and was pleasantly impressed by this hidden gem. You walk in look through the menu then walk up to the counter to order, they give you a number and you find a seat, and they will bring your order to you. We loved the casual atmosphere very cozy. The coffee was good, but on to the food, We both had the country breakfast, the croissants were excellent, bacon perfectly cooked eggs weee a great over medium, however the star was the potatoes, Wow these were amazing crispy on the outside soft on the inside with perfect seasoning. Hello La Madeline management? Anybody There? When I checked your reviews before writing mine today I noticed a steep decline in ratings?? I have enjoyed this chain hundreds of times over the years. As I moved around with my job I always found a great location. New Orleans, Dallas, Alexandria , VA. Just to name a few. Always delicious never disappointing. Today I ordered two bowls of the tomato basil soup and Chicken Salad with beverages to go. For good measure, I also bought a jar if the tomato Basil. I noticed that the "bowls of soup were small but didn't make an issue of it. Then I asked for some bread to go with the soup and Chicken salad. I was told they were "out of bread". I don't know if it was true but since they stopped displaying the bread during the pandemic you are lucky to get bread. If you do get bread it probably not going to be your choice. And they ration it out to you. Last time they had no multigrain- this time they had none!! It was around 5PM. Hardly dinner hour yet. How does a Bakery Cafe constantly run out of bread and make you feel like you shouldn't be asking? That's one of the best things about going there. Fresh bread. This lack of product, lack of concern, Is disheartening. Come on LaMadeline! You can do better than this!! If you can't then at least train your staff to say we're sorry! read more

The food was decent but the service was HORRIBLE! We spent an hour and a half trying to get our entire meal! They brought out my granddaughter's meal that was totally incorrect. We sent it back. About 10 minutes later, they brought out my husband's meal. 10 minutes later they brought my meal. My granddaughter's meal never showed up until I went to complain and even then it took another 25 minutes. My husband and I were finished eating before my granddaughter got her meal! La Madeleine is one of my go to places for a casual brunch or lunch. The consistency of quality is impeccable. I have not had a bad experience with the restaurant & this location was no exception. The staff were helpful, patient, & kind. My group took awhile to make a decision on our meal and the staff patiently awaited. The atmosphere was lovely! Bonjour!!! Its really hard to control myself when I go here. I am obsessed with sweets and this place satisfies my craving every time. My favorite thing to get there is the sacher torte cake. It is a raspberry chocolate cake. You can buy it by the slice or get the whole cake. So many options to choose from like cookies, cheesecake and muffins. I fa la la la love La Madeleine. On the day I went I got it to go, but the French style bistro restaurant is so cozy and charming that I will be back to dine in again and again. A few of my favorite things here are the Tomato Basil soup-rich, creamy and full of flavor. Hits the spot especially on a cold day. The Chicken Friand is a time honored classic-tender chicken, mushrooms, onion and swiss in a puff pasty topped with mushroom sauce. It's delicious. I also love the Caesar Salad here-they make the dressing in house and it is high on the list of best dressings ever. I like the salad topped with the balsamic marinated chicken as well as the chilled salmon. Both are great and I usually have a hard time deciding between the two. As for the pastries, well it almost goes without saying that they taste as good as they look. I am particularly fond of the mini lemon tarts. Bon appetit! read more

This is a really nice restaurant the atmosphere and ambience of the place is very inviting. The breakfast here is good it's a French cuisine style restaurant. I don't like the potato hash but that's just my opinion you might actually love it. The fruits are sweet I would definitely recommend the strawberry Romanoff it's strawberries with a brandy cream. This morning, my wife and I got a chance to have breakfast with an old friend who walked in at the last minute. That was an unexpected, wonderful treat. However, the reason that he was there to meet with us at all was definitely not good at all. He was turned away from La Madeleine French Bakery & Café because he was not wearing a mask The gentleman, a Vietnam veteran pilot, suffering from diabetes and COPD due to Agent Orange, with an OXYGEN PACK over his back and rumbling in the background, tube in his nose, CANNOT wear a mask. Now, let me say WITHOUT QUESTION that enforcing masks and distancing is of *UTMOST* importance right now. Anyone who has read anything that I've written in months knows that I am emphatic about basic protocols, to keep people safe from this pandemic. I don't think that my friend disagrees with the necessity. We are very glad that the restaurant is being so careful. However, the young manager would not listen to the fact that he was under MEDICAL EXCEPTION from his doctor literally because he cannot breathe with a mask on. Turning him down is tantamount to turning someone away because they have a muddy wheelchair, or a therapy or seeing-eye dog. Now, I will admit that our friend probably could have slipped on a mask for the thirty-second walk in, had he had one on him. After all, it was only the walk to the table. But of course he didn't have one, because his doctor told him that it wasn't safe. It's not as if he's denying the necessity of masks, running around putting himself at risk due to political stance, or breaking into the Capitol building. He simply wanted to have a nice, quiet breakfast in a convivial place amongst people. This could have been easily solved. The young and inflexible woman could simply have walked this well-spoken and reasonable septuagenarian, in, graciously, saying conversationally as she passed tables that "Normally we would not allow someone in without a mask, but we understand your situation". She could have talked with him nicely as they walked in and sat him at a table, to enjoy his meal. Instead, she turned him down, told him that he could order his breakfast curbside to go eat by himself at home; and in doing so not only lost business, but possibly a future customer. That's all right: at least Ema's Cafe treated him with courtesy, and served excellent food. I called La Madeline, tried to explain to the manager the mistake that she had made, that this man was a veteran that wasn't being careless, but honestly didn't have a choice. I tried to explain why this was really not right. I tried to explain to her that I understand from my daily work why the policy is important, but that she needed to be fair about this. She refused completely to do anything but offer a scripted apology - to me - for "the inconvenience". So now, as I promised her, I am going to share this little story over and over and over again until someone on the news catches it. We should all endeavor to keep people safe, and wandering around without masks and without care for basic protocols is unacceptable. I think that, if anything, these mandates should be more carefully and stringently enforced in every business. Honestly, I would like to see an orange rubber bracelet provided to doctors, that simply says "Medical Exception", provided only to clinics and hospitals, and illegal to copy or sell. Everybody has the right go to a business and be safe. However, until something like that happens, understandable, undeniably obvious exceptions like this should not result in refusal of service, and I will not go La Madeleine again, until I see a public apology. read more

The environment is always great. The food has taken a dramatic turn to the worse. Cold cheese in the soup that was already lukewarm. The cranberry turkey Croquette had one tiny piece of dry turkey, no cheese and cranberry sauce. The sandwich would not even stay together when you picked it up. What happened to the food here ??? We used to come a few times a week and loved it. We are very familiar with la Madeleine across the state and love them. You can't recreate the chicken from here if you tried , it was always so good. The past few months we've come and left bc the food doesn't taste the same. What happened to the food here ? The chicken isn't roasted like it used to be. When you order the almondine green beans they aren't sautéed like they used to be. The red skinned mashed potatoes aren't red skinned mashed potatoes.. the children's food is just so basic whereas it used to disappear from my children's plates. Everything is just lacking. Second time over there. It's a nice relaxing place to have lunch. I like that I was able to substitute out my rice for veggies. My daughter came with me and they actually had good menu options for kids. I like the fact that the fruits was really fresh. I had a nice man who helped me with my leftovers and he picked up our dishes. I left him a little tip but one of the bus boys came clean the rest of the dishes and took it. I had this chicken dish, it was good. I like spicy, so I asked the lady at the counter if they had pepper flakes and they didn't. Also I had wanted hot tea but the lady gave me a regular cup and I didn't see anywhere I could get hit water for the tea packets. They had decent variety of different teas. I have been to la Madeleine several times now & can say, without exception, that this place is an affordable, delectable haven of deliciousness. It's also set up in such a way that food is received quickly & paid cafeteria-style (before you eat), so if you're in a rush but want impressive food, this is a good option. This place gets so many things right! So far, I have had - & been blown away by - Chicken la Madeleine, Chicken Friand, Country French Breakfast, French Chicken Pot Pie & Beef Bourguignon. My favorite so far has been the pot pie, but let it be noted that breakfast, lunch & dinner are available from open to close. This makes me uncontrollably happy, as I could eat breakfast all day. There is also a nice selection of teas, including caffeine-free teas for us hyper people, which is a definite plus. The thing that really put me over the moon about this place is the fact that they happily substituted asparagus for rice, since I am not a rice eater. I normally pay extra for something like that, but not at La Madeleine! BIG perk for a gal like me. My only beef with la Madeleine is how sugary their pastries are. My favorite thing about French pastries is their buttery flavor rather than sugary-sweetness & I was hoping to find that here, but I did not. I have sampled the Mini Chocolate Almond Tart, Chocolate Macaroon, Mini Fruit Tart & French Vanilla Tart with Berries. So far, the Chocolate Macaroon is my favorite.
