I had some time to spare waiting for my dog to get groomed. I stopped in for a coffee and quick bite. I ordered the sweet potato biscuit and an iced caramel latte. It was very good. I love sweet potatoes and anytime there is a sweet potato biscuit, I have to get it! The coffee was a little more milk than I usually like which takes away from the espresso flavor. Overall a good experience. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. read more

Coffee and their sweet potato biscuits are awesome. I love love love there "which Came first" Scottish eggs. I always order two with the honey mustard sauce. I can never finish both but it makes for a great snack later on. The people here are soooo nice and I love just sitting and enjoying my coffee here. read more

Such great beignets and coffee with extremely friendly staff. Would recommend stopping in for a quick little treat.

Awesome place for breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere is welcoming and chill. I love the decor, and it seems there's been something unique, some pretty lights on a festive display for example, every time I visit. Love their egg and cheese croissant, so fresh! Also tried their wrap minus the wrap and must say it was an excellent way to get my veggies. Everything was prepared with care and out quickly enough for me to get back and enjoy it during my lunch break. Thanks for being here! read more

We had the best Beignets we had ever had here!! You have got to try them. The workers are very friendly and kind. It seems to be a nice work environment. We also ordered a Club sandwich, A chicken wrap, and cinnamon roll, and everything was delicious. Definitely are coming again in the future! read more

So happy they are back open. This is my go to cafe! Good vibe, good food, great coffee!

FAVE‼ Best local coffee spot that isn't trying too hard, but always delivers supreme excellence. * friendly & knowledgeable staff * cool & modern atmosphere with outdoor seating * even cooler owner that works with staff on the daily * coffee on point & consistent time after time * food is always fresh, bright, & made with care/love/soul * great location for walking adventures * drive thru line that runs smoothly Black's is worth skipping the typical drive through line. I ate here often while I was pregnant. A big deal, because I was notoriously hungry yet ultra picky during that time. I was also extremely emotional & the staff never upset me. The ONLY drawback is being closed on Saturday, but that definitely adds to the owner's cool boss points. read more

Delicious beignets and latte. Staff very nice and friendly! The scotch egg was a new treat for us to try. It was enjoyed very much also!

Loved everything about my experience here! The team was warm and friendly, food was sooooo delicious, and there are outlets so I did some work while munching on my breakfast. read more

Black Café - 8piece Beignets, toasted Croissant, and The Hot Potato Egg (filling and affordable!) - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Lafayette, Louisiana

4.3 stars: Black café was definitely a gem tucked away in an otherwise average suburb. I was enticed by their famous big black burger so I had to make a stop for this. The burger was perfectly cooked without sacrificing juiciness and topped with bacon and a fried egg - everything you can want in a burger. None of us have ever tried scotch eggs so we ordered one. In Chinese, the word for "deep-fried egg" and the word for "bomb" are homophones (sounds exactly the same; just different meanings) and the scotch egg was quite literally bomb. It was so delicious we ended up ordering more. Both the "pork perfection" and the "which came first" were delectable but I preferred the pork one. It was well seasoned and very filling. We also got a cafe au lait and an espresso. The coffee were simply alright. My family and I finished off our meal with an order of beignets and to my surprise, the mini beignets were warm and fluffy. Amidst all the controversy and hate crimes committed against both the Black and Asian races in the recent years, I think it's really important to support each other. Sure, my family and I got some stares when walking in but they still provided great customer service and that's all I can ask for. read more

Wish I had photos of the Scotch Eggs and Beignets!! Trey purposely make small Beignets, so you can easily eat them while driving. Now that's kinda brilliant. I love this place and the people who serve there: good crowd, good coffee, and good food. If only Trey wasn't Jewish- then he could ignore the Sabbath and open on the weekends. Lol. read more

Got bengets from here and loved them. Service was good. Will go back again. Has drive thru which is good if ordering on the go.

My friend was looking for a quick place to eat and we stumbled upon Black Cafe. Super chill vibes there so I can see why people get coffee here. We shared a veggie wrap with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries tasted like heaven. It was so warm and they topped it with powdered sugar. We requested to add avocado to our wrap but I guess the cashier did not hear us or forgot to add it to our order. It tasted ok without it. Next time I will try the scotch egg!! read more

The big black burger was good option, very filling but was missing a "kick" with the burger (I.e. secret sauce or some type of jalapeño sauce). Very limited on sides, they only had sweet potato fries or chips as options (limited variety of chips). They didn't have a wide variety of condiments either. Overall, the food was fine but very limited on options, and the cashiers finger nails were dirty. read more

Love the area, but the woman who helped me gave me a negative vibe. It was my first time here, and I was just looking at the menu, why make me feel like I'm being rushed me since I'm taking a little long.. Nevertheless, I had the following: - Americano on Ice - delicious and strong, just how I like it - Sweet Potato Biscuit - the biscuits were light and slightly sweetened, delicious - Breakfast Sandwich - bacon, egg and cheese on croissant - sandwich was okay, not sure if croissant is made on site or not, but it somewhat tastes like its brought from a box - The Hot Potato Scotch Eggs - shredded seasoned potato - fluffy potatoes, tasted mediocre, did not care for this one much - Pork Perfection Scotch Eggs - fresh pork sausage - the pork was also okay, felt a little heavy - Which Came First Scotch Eggs - seasoned chicken breast - my favorite of all three, light and flavorful This place is okay, I would probably come back to try out their lunch menu. read more

Black Cafe is a great food destination for folks in the Uptown/Downtown/Saint Street areas. One of my favorite things about this joint is that it serves breakfast & lunch food all day long. The Burger here is good, the Chicken Wrap is great & the breakfast food is AWESOME. I treated my office of ~10 people to the following for breakfast this morning: *A Variety of Breakfast Sandwiches on Croissants (BEC, HEC & TEC) *A Plain Egg & Cheese (EC) Breakfast Sandwich on a Wheat Bagel *A Variety of Scotch Eggs (Chicken, Potato & Pork) *A Few Orders of Beignets (I call 'em Beignet Bites 'cause they're so small & cute) *A Few Sweet Potato Biscuits (they have what looks like pieces of pecans in them) I wanted to take pictures of the food, but honestly, I was too hungry to be bothered & dove in. Also, if I would have taken the time to disrupt the breakfast flow by taking pictures, it may have gotten ugly in there. And from the first bite, it was ON. We usually have a little food left over at the end of the day when someone brings breakfast, but not today, boo-boo!!! All that remained was powdered sugar & crumbs. MMMMMM Everybody kept grabbing Black Cafe menus & asking "where is this place?!?" We walked away from breakfast a little less productive, yet happily full & comatose. Literally everything was impressive, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be the Scotch Egg, which is essentially a boiled egg encased in your choice of Chicken, Pork or Potato Hash, then deep fried. Seriously, don't be afraid to try new things or you'll miss stuff like the deliciousness of the Scotch Egg. The Croissaint Breakfast Sandwiches are pretty darn big, so split one with a friend if you have small appetites. With the proximity to home & work, good prices, free wi-fi, fun menu & friendly service, Black Cafe can count on me being a regular from now on. read more

Nice casual coffee shop, I basically give them a B rating at 4 stars. I didn't get the opportunity to have their scotch eggs or their sweet potato biscuits so my rating may change. I did however, have the 14 spice chicken wrap with a chai latte and some beignets. The wrap was the overall disappointment as the amount of chicken seemed lacking compared to the amount of veggies they stuffed it with. It should have been called the 14 veggie wrap with chicken instead. Overall though, it was a good healthy dish. But I shortly destroyed the healthy part by adding beignets to my entree (what can I say, I'm my own worst enemy). These were little one bite wonders and paired really nicely with my chai latte. I would definitely recommend stopping by this cafe. It has some nice curb appeal. The atmosphere is comfortable and the staff are fun and exciting. read more

Stopped here while driving through Lafayette. It's about a 10-15 min drive off 1-10. Very hip place with an industrial feel. Not a big menu...we were there for lunch. Kids got cheeseburgers and they were good. Ingot the chicken wrap. It was decent. Lots of tortilla. Not a lot of chicken. Ok flavor. My husband got the club with a fried egg. He said it was outstanding. My son got the BLT with fried egg. It was the best BLT he's ever had. Good proportion of bacon to lettuce and tomatoe. Great grainy bread. We also got the Pork Scotch Eggs. They were crunchy on the outside with hard boiled egg on inside. Overall, totally worth the drive off of 1-10. They closed at 2 on Sunday and we got there at 1:30...just in time. Very nice people serving us. read more

Went here because they had a couple of our favorite breakfast items on their menu - Scotch eggs and beignets. Both items were made very well. We also got a Scotch egg that was wrapped in hash browns and not sausage. It was good, but liked the traditional one better. The coffee and chai tea were good. Service was accurate, but slower than expected since they didn't appear terribly busy. read more

The black cafe was listed as a black owned business so to contribute to our community I said, let's try it out! It's really cute inside, the burger I ordered was great! The coffee is so so so good! Was passing through Louisiana and decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately they were out of beignets. So I ordered the sweet potato biscuits. It was soft and delicious. I did try the scotch eggs. Both the chicken and the pork were amazing. My bf ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich which was also delicious. Our food was fresh and came out hot. One of my new favorite places. I've only lived here about a month now and I've been here probably 5 times. I love the atmosphere and the owner is fantastic. The croissant breakfast sandwiches are amazing and shockingly the bagels too. I'm from just outside Manhattan, so I don't usually do bagels anywhere else, but my mom was visiting and got a breakfast sandwich on a bagel and we both agreed it was as close to home as we've gotten maybe anywhere! Also their Scotch eggs, oh my god... read more

This place was decent. I don't think I'd go back again. Nothing special here. It is quite messy in the kitchen area. That made me uncomfortable having so many boxes and miscellaneous scattered items in the area where food is prepared. They had three people working behind the counter not including the owner who was there as well. It took forever to get our food. Two wraps and an order of scotch eggs. I probably waited 20 minutes and I was the only customer. They had one girl making the food while the others stood around. The veggie wrap was a 7/10. The scotch eggs were a 6.5/10 And the chicken wrap was kind of odd with too many different spices that clashed in my opinion it was a 4/10. I would only go here as a last resort. read more

Pretty good food they were wicked busy and spaced out and missed some of my order. Good crispy bacon though.

We were traveling from Baton Rouge back to Austin and wanted a great unique place to grab brunch. This was just a couple miles off I-10 and was perfect! Parking was easy, it was cute inside, and the people were very nice! We had the breakfast sandwich with bacon and the bacon was crispy to add perfect texture to go with the soft croissant and egg. We have breakfast sandwiches any chance we get, and we left saying this was one of our favorites by far! The frozen coffee= how does it get so smooth!? The beignets were little bites- came out hot and delicious! Then, to top that off, they brought out the Scottish Egg - which I had no clue what to expect. It was a crispy crunchy outer fried layer of deliciousnessness, then magic-seasoned hash browns, with a hard boiled egg in the middle. I went in without expectations and afterward wished I ordered 2 more for the road! Will definitely come here again if we pass by! read more

Only place in Lafayette that I know that has scotch eggs. The scotch eggs were pretty good. The sausage was well seasoned and had a crunchy crust. The boiled egg was a little over cooked but not bad.
