4.3 stars: Black café was definitely a gem tucked away in an otherwise average suburb. I was enticed by their famous big black burger so I had to make a stop for this. The burger was perfectly cooked without sacrificing juiciness and topped with bacon and a fried egg - everything you can want in a burger. None of us have ever tried scotch eggs so we ordered one. In Chinese, the word for "deep-fried egg" and the word for "bomb" are homophones (sounds exactly the same; just different meanings) and the scotch egg was quite literally bomb. It was so delicious we ended up ordering more. Both the "pork perfection" and the "which came first" were delectable but I preferred the pork one. It was well seasoned and very filling. We also got a cafe au lait and an espresso. The coffee were simply alright. My family and I finished off our meal with an order of beignets and to my surprise, the mini beignets were warm and fluffy. Amidst all the controversy and hate crimes committed against both the Black and Asian races in the recent years, I think it's really important to support each other. My friend was looking for a quick place to eat and we stumbled upon Black Cafe. Super chill vibes there so I can see why people get coffee here. We shared a veggie wrap with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries tasted like heaven. It was so warm and they topped it with powdered sugar. We requested to add avocado to our wrap but I guess the cashier did not hear us or forgot to add it to our order. It tasted ok without it. Next time I will try the scotch egg!! read more

Nice casual coffee shop, I basically give them a B rating at 4 stars. I didn't get the opportunity to have their scotch eggs or their sweet potato biscuits so my rating may change. I did however, have the 14 spice chicken wrap with a chai latte and some beignets. The wrap was the overall disappointment as the amount of chicken seemed lacking compared to the amount of veggies they stuffed it with. It should have been called the 14 veggie wrap with chicken instead. Overall though, it was a good healthy dish. But I shortly destroyed the healthy part by adding beignets to my entree (what can I say, I'm my own worst enemy).These were little one bite wonders and paired really nicely with my chai latte. I treated my office of ~10 people to the following for breakfast this morning: *A Variety of Breakfast Sandwiches on Croissants (BEC, HEC & TEC) *A Plain Egg & Cheese (EC) Breakfast Sandwich on a Wheat Bagel *A Variety of Scotch Eggs (Chicken, Potato & Pork) *A Few Orders of Beignets (I call 'em Beignet Bites 'cause they're so small & cute) *A Few Sweet Potato Biscuits (they have what looks like pieces of pecans in them) I wanted to take pictures of the food, but honestly, I was too hungry to be bothered & dove in. Also, if I would have taken the time to disrupt the breakfast flow by taking pictures, it may have gotten ugly in there. And from the first bite, it was ON. We usually have a little food left over at the end of the day when someone brings breakfast, but not today, boo-boo!!! All that remained was powdered sugar & crumbs. Stopped here while driving through Lafayette. It's about a 10-15 min drive off 1-10. Very hip place with an industrial feel. Not a big menu...we were there for lunch. Kids got cheeseburgers and they were good. Ingot the chicken wrap. It was decent. Lots of tortilla. Not a lot of chicken. Ok flavor. My husband got the club with a fried egg. He said it was outstanding. My son got the BLT with fried egg. It was the best BLT he's ever had. Good proportion of bacon to lettuce and tomatoe. Great grainy bread. We also got the Pork Scotch Eggs. They were crunchy on the outside with hard boiled egg on inside. Overall, totally worth the drive off of 1-10. Was passing through Louisiana and decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately they were out of beignets. So I ordered the sweet potato biscuits. It was soft and delicious. I did try the scotch eggs. Both the chicken and the pork were amazing. My bf ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich which was also delicious. Our food was fresh and came out hot. This place was decent. I don't think I'd go back again. Nothing special here. It is quite messy in the kitchen area. That made me uncomfortable having so many boxes and miscellaneous scattered items in the area where food is prepared. They had three people working behind the counter not including the owner who was there as well. It took forever to get our food. Two wraps and an order of scotch eggs. I probably waited 20 minutes and I was the only customer. They had one girl making the food while the others stood around. The veggie wrap was a 7/10. The scotch eggs were a 6.5/10 And the chicken wrap was kind of odd with too many different spices that clashed in my opinion it was a 4/10. I would only go here as a last resort. read more

The big black burger was good option, very filling but was missing a "kick" with the burger (I.e. secret sauce or some type of jalapeño sauce). Very limited on sides, they only had sweet potato fries or chips as options (limited variety of chips). They didn't have a wide variety of condiments either. We were traveling from Baton Rouge back to Austin and wanted a great unique place to grab brunch. This was just a couple miles off I-10 and was perfect!
