When we arrived, the parking was hard to navigate in the middle of a busy street, but we ended up finding a front row parking spot! We walked in and it was very dark, with a moody vibe! I was having trouble deciding between a burger or hotdog, but ended up deciding on the Mexican street dog! It was the best hot dog I've eaten in a while! The fries were also seasoned perfectly! We ordered red velvet cake for my friends' birthday, but it took a little while for it to come out(the waiter said it was frozen and had to thaw). It was a little too warm, as the icing was melting off. All in all, I would go back here just to get the hotdog and fries again! Came here for a impromptu night out with friends and had the best time I've had in a while! I'm not sure what this place is like during the day since it's smack dab in the middle of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, but at night it is kinda funky, very dark and mega mysterious. Game plan follows: Score a place across the street and park there, don't stress trying to parallel park, girl! Mosey your way up and out to the patio. Trust me, the patio is where you're gonna want to be. Order yourself the Veggie Fries. Don't think about it, just order. They're the best thing on the menu and very table shareable. Sooooo it was 9:30 and we were coming home from Alexandria, most of the places to eat along the way were closed. Open to 11:00 they said so we went. It's a bar and grill kinda place. Not a big menu but interesting stuff. I had a Hawaiian burger (pineapple and pepper jack cheese) Julie had a Mexican Street Dog, a bacon wrapped hot dog with cool stuff on it. No fries. Zapps chips. While in the area I decided to stop by this place. When I first entered I didn't see anyone working it took a few minutes before someone came out. This actually gave me time to look at the menu. So I decided to go with the fried mushroom. This was an order to go. Really didn't take very long for me to get my order I'd say under 10 minutes. I really wish I could say they were delicious but in all honesty they were just bland. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Maybe they were meant to be that way since they came with ranch dressing to be dipped in. Looked way better than they actually tasted. Biggest let down this month. Love the Cobb salad from here, particularly the dressing they use. Back in town for the weekend, order it, even ask for extra dressing but I get home 30 minutes away and neither of the two salads ordered have dressing. I been here on two occasions and both were pleasant experiences! This place is open late but I have only been here during lunch. My best friend and I are obsessed with the veggie cheese fries. Its packed with flavor and fresh veggies. I will say that it was overly salty the last time I had it, but I still enjoyed all the combinations of toppings. I've only ever come here for lunch so my review is based mostly on the food. I just want to start by saying the VEGGIE FRIES is hands down one of the best food items I've ever had. Grilled veggies, shredded cheese and blue cheese sauce (i think) on top of seasoned (and a bit SALTY) fries...I literally had to close my eyes and just savor it at some points lol I also ordered spicy wings which weren't really spicy at all but I'm glad it wasn't lol (only options for wings were spicy and buffalo). I love how they use a flour crust with no weird eggy layer under it, tasted very homemade. Another item I tried here previously was the alligator etoufee balls. I'm not super adventurous when it comes to eating different kinds of meat/seafood, but I remember these tasting fine. The look and the atmosphere is very funky, artsy and hipster. The big bookcase when you walk in along with the desk lamps as table lighting are adorable odes to the UL campus nearby. I'm not usually a fan of low lighting but it works here with the very bright desk lamps and large windows. It's a pretty multifaceted spot as it has a bar, serves coffee tea and breakfast items as well as lunch and dinner items. If you're a parking-phobe like I am, there is parking directly behind the building off of Coolidge. My only gripe is I wish they had actual small sides. Sure you can get 7 wings for $8 or a burger for $11 as a meal on its own but the moment you decide you need a little more than that plus a drink you're easily looking at around $20. Of course, the one $ rating can be based on a ton of other things. read more

I've never left a review but I went here to order a drink and I tried to be nice about saying the drink was sour. He said "that's not possible, but I can try something". He proceeded to just add more milk to the drink. And instead of helping the customer who just paid for something that was not made right, he tried to keep going to the next person rather than just understanding the drink could have been sour. Then I asked for beignet fries and he said they were out and walked away rather than asking me if I could get anything else. read more

If you have a massive disposable income, and you know how to handle random mental patients and rehab patients visiting from across the street attacking and harassing you and other customers, then this is the place for you. the food is fantastic. the workers are also, top notch. but if something does happen do not expect the cops to be called on your behalf, the owner will not call for some reason. But if your ok with your personal safety being on the line and a total tongue in cheek attitude about it then enjoy! devil may care and total disrespect is part of the charm! you deserve it, since you accepted it years ago, why change now. and if you complain you may be " banned for life" like any professional establishment would do to its patrons. I used to come here fairly frequently when I was an undergraduate at UL, but I had not been in years until the other night when we had a surprise party for a friend of mine. This is sort of a hip college hang out. It's part coffee shop, part bar, with some bar food type offerings. It is laid out to be a hang out mostly and there may be people working on their computers of just hanging out and talking, pretty laid back over all. read more

We come here to remember that different is okay. Different is best. If you want to blend in, stay home. Come here to learn the world in technocolor. Come here to change your views or forget them all together. I went to Cafe to get one beer, tip my bartender, & use some WiFi, but I saw how Lou takes care of his other business owner neighbors. It was refreshing. I hadn't seen Cafe work during the day. He is a good example for our generation. Don't starve the competition. Feed them, so you may battle victoriously. Stopped by here around 9:40 for some alligator ettoufee balls. We were driving back from North Carolina and it was getting late, but my girlfriend didn't want to leave Louisiana without alligator (I had never tried it). This was the only place open at almost 10 pm, and with a long night of driving ahead of us we needed something to keep us up! When we walked in, we immediately felt welcome. As misfits ourselves, we loved the crowd and the general atmosphere--definitely not what we expected from a late-night LA stop. The food was absolutely FANTASTIC, and I still find myself craving it! I only deducted a star for parking troubles. I'm not sure if there's more parking, but the only parking that we could find at night was on the street, with some crazy drivers driving by. Terrible customer service. Ordered seasoned fries, there were no seasoning. The buffalo wings were also burnt and dry, and served with no type of sauce. Requested the hangover with no mustard or pickles and received it with, no surprise mustard/pickles, the burger was burnt and the bread was very much soggy. I'm allergic to mustard and the fact that they don't have a problem putting peoples lives at risk is very much upsetting. 10/10 would not recommend, your better off going to Burger King for the same crappy service. read more

When looking at the menu for this place, I envisioned it as a hole in the wall mom and pop cafe with a relaxed feel to it. This place was more like a college bar with a full menu that just happened to serve coffee. The music was super loud with everything from uncensored rap to country. It threw me off a lot. HOWEVER, the bartender who served us was very nice, and the food was amazing. We ordered the swamp burger, cheese fries, mozzarella sticks and a cup of the roasted pepper smoked Gouda soup. The soup had so much flavor to it I wish I had more. I wish the cheese on the fries had been melted a bit more but it didn't take away from the taste. I'd definitely go again, but I'd sit outside if it wasn't too hot or order to go unless I felt like drinking. read more

Would have been a 4 or 5 star experience easy, but... there was this old, banged up bar-fly duder who was really drunk, brushing up on, talking to everyone, smokin', drinkin', singing along AND LOUDLY to the music. Guy was clearly on his own program. When he would wander off or go outside it was a very enjoyable experience.. when he would come back, it made me want to leave. I was hoping the bartender would notice his behavior and either give him some coaching or have him go elsewhere. read more

I still don't feel cool enough to go to Caffe. Growing up this is the place all the artsy, smart, misfit cool kids hung out! I love the mixed atmosphere of coffee shop, bar, restaurant. We've spent t nights just talking and laughing. Nights playing games. And nights creating art! It's such a safe, friendly, & comfortable environment. Chloe makes the BEST lattes! I lick the foam off the cup! No shame. I'm vegan & while there are no options on the menu that didn't stop them from making me the most delicious & spicy veggie wrap!! The cashier(20ishWF) they had on March 20th around 2:40pm had terrible customer service. I(27BM) arrive at the cafe & waited patiently at the register to order .After about 5 minutes the cashier emerges to help but she looks past me to the customer(60WM) behind me and ask how she can help. The customer gestures that I'm ahead of them . the cashier proceeds to get closer to the customer behind me and looks at the menu. So either this cashier has terrible custom service and or they had a racial discriminatory moment. read more

In town for a wedding and wanted a good Bloody Mary so we googled restaurant with best Bloody Mary and found Cafe Cottage. Absolutely amazing! Definitely one of the best we've ever had. The chicken quesadillas are awesome! My boyfriend added avocado to the order and we were thinking it would be on the side. They took it a step further and put it IN the quesadillas for him. Four of us came here for a bite to eat after traveling all day, so it was 9:30-10:00 p.m. when we arrived and not much was open. Being older, we definitely felt out of place with a much younger, hipster crowd. Obviously being from out of town, no one gave us any direction where to sit or how to order. Finally, a young guy customer gave us some weird directions. The food was okay...various fries, quesadilla & a wrap. Not sure about the quesadilla, but the fries and wrap were very salty. The drinks tasted off, as well. The worst part was when a cockroach was crawling on our table. Many people have said this is a good place for misfits, which seemed to apply to the people we saw. Caffe' Cottage is one of my favorite places in town. The staff and locals are very friendly, there's a great beer selection, the music is great, and the food is decent. Not to mention I can get all of my buzztime trivia needs taken care of as well. This is actually the only bar I'll go to by myself if I'm bored. I'll also stop by for coffee and wireless internet in the mornings if I happen to be in the area. Pets are also welcome. read more
