As someone who recently relocated from California, one of the biggest challenges has been finding vegan options in Lafayette. Then I discovered Five Mile Eatery, and it has quickly become one of my favorite places in town. I am absolutely addicted to their vegan Caesar salad. It's fresh, flavorful, satisfying, and proof that vegan food can be anything but boring. The menu is thoughtfully crafted with organic, seasonal ingredients, and it's refreshing to find a place that truly caters to plant-based eaters. I know some people comment on the prices, but organic, high-quality ingredients cost more, and that's something many people don't realize. Personally, I don't mind paying a little extra for healthy choices and food made with quality ingredients. The food was okay, but it wasn't anything that would make me rush back. My coworker recommended this place to me. I ordered the Co-op Burger, which came on a house-made sweet potato bun that was actually really good. The Angus beef patty was cooked well done, just how I like it. It also came with lettuce, mustard, house ketchup, and basil mayo. Personally, I could've done without the house ketchup and would've preferred regular ketchup. The basil mayo was not a good match, I think regular mayo would have complemented the burger much better. I also asked to leave off the pickles and red onion. I added an over-hard egg, which was cooked perfectly. On the side, I ordered the yogurt, but unfortunately, I couldn't eat it. It tasted like spoiled sour cream, so that was definitely a disappointment. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming, although the seating area felt a little too cramped. It was lunchtime, so I understand that it was busy. One thing I didn't like was the lack of any signs directing customers with call-in or online orders. It wasn't clear where those orders should be picked up. I ended up standing by the cooler, which put me in the walkway of food being delivered and the cooler for beverages. I was also concerned about the food handling. The employee bringing out food and drinks kept playing with her hair because it was constantly falling in her face, then continued handling customers' orders. The person making the coffee also had her hair down. In my opinion, anyone preparing or serving food should have their hair secured and wear gloves when appropriate. Parking was probably the biggest inconvenience. Nearly every surrounding business has signs stating "Parking for customers only," which makes finding a place to park difficult. read more

Wow this place is incredible. We stopped in on a cross country road trip on a whim due to their vegan options! This place blew me away, the food was amazing. My husband got the pad thai salad and I got the co-op burger subbed for the veggie patty with a small soup. The soup was a spicy sweet potato kale one and it was flavorful with the perfect level of spicy and sweet. The burger was so unique and the veggie patty was the best one I have ever had. The coffee was good with unique flavors but the flavor was less intense than I would have hoped since they sounded great. But not bad! The service was really good; the staff was friendly and helpful with ordering and explaining menu items. There's really no better food for your digestive system in the morning than sweet potato, so I was very glad to see a breakfast plate that included it. Such a wonderful experience! I am gluten-free and love the food in Louisiana and unfortunately not able to enjoy it due to flour used in most recipes. The food is egregiously overpriced and disappointingly bland, especially if you need allergy modifications. Also, I have been fed dairy there many times despite alerting them of my allergy, which probably half of those times were from cross contamination. But the menu does not properly mark out allergies warnings in the food so be careful especially if you have severe reactions! The service there sucked and is remarkably slow!!! Be careful if you go cause you can tell the owners HATE interacting with customers. Had I known it was sandwich slices I would have passed on it and opted for a salad. The "bun" was super dry it was unbearable not enough condiments. So I just ate the meat. Basic patty not fresh. Whole grain mustard cuts the richness of the burger patty and the pickles were wonderful. Spring mix salad with sliced cherry tomatoes. Nice serving size as well. All ingredients were fresh. I'm a sucker for healthy food spots. This place is fire and innovative. Love the small retail section. The service was great. I love that they offer local goat milk as a milk option. I got espresso with goat milk, honey and matcha. So good. For the food, the probiotic yogurt - amazing. Also I noticed they have a tinned fish plate. Didn't try but I adore the concept and will try it next time! They also sell small flower arrangements which was extremely convenient as I was going to the hospital next door to visit someone.
