The food at La Joya was very good and the portions sizable. We had the chicken enchiladas and the El tequila fajitas with shrimp, steak and chicken.. I actually made three meals out of the fajitas with an extra order of tortillas. Very nice DISH with great vegetables and meats which comes out Flaming with a shot of tequila. My Favorite Mexican Restaurant! Amazing, Authentic made fresh. The Salsas, the handmade tortillas, authentic beans and Mexican rice done perfectly and consistently. Start off with a mezcal margarita, follow it with the guacamole azteca then I go with the Camarones Diabla with tortillas maiz. Take 1 dos XX beer and you've been transported to heaven. This is not just my favorite Mexican restaurant in the state it may be one of my all time favorites! I just returned from a trip to Chicago and California and it is as good as any. Yummy food located in historic Greer. Staff are friendly and there is seating on the bar side or dining area. We loved the guacamole Alcatraz which was chunky guacamole dip. It was a slow Thursday night in Greer so we were seated promptly. Thick chips and thin salsa with no flavor arrived quickly. Ordered a regular medium margarita and a skinny margarita, both with salt. The lime margarita was barely ok. The skinny one was not. So being the good husband I am we traded margaritas. I ordered the Texas Burrito Supremo with no queso, my wife ordered three Carnitas Tacos. The food arrived promptly. The burrito was plated with rice, sour cream, guacamole and tomato. The tacos had onions and cilantro. My wife said the tacos were just ok, so I gave her half of my burrito for one taco. Another good husband point. I dolled up the taco with sour cream, guacamole and salsa and it was good. The check had a 3% fee imbedded in the list of items. The manager explained that it was the "card" fee, that everybody was doing it. I asked if it was noted on the menu or if there was a sign on the doors. The answer was "no". I have no problem with the fee if there is a notice that it is being charged. Again, being a good husband I didn't make a scene over $1.63 and paid the bill. If friends suggest going here I would make a 2nd visit. Otherwise there are too many options in Greer/Greenville. read more

We were going to eat at Los Portales, a block away, but they are in the midst of transitioning to another restaurant, so walked to La Joya. We were not at all disappointed! My husband's carne asade was fine, but the hand-made corn tortillas and ESPECIALLY the quesobirria tacos were AMAZING! Very attentive service, too. read more

I came to La Joya for lunch today. I was very hungry and by myself. I read the reviews and was excited to check out this restaurant. I sat at the bar and I was so pleased with the atmosphere. Great, fully stocked bar and the bar area really was done well. And that is about all the good things that I can say about my experience today at La Joya. The bartender had no personality and was very curt. For lunch, I ordered the special shrimp burrito. The picture was featured on the menu and it looked great. I waited for 50 minutes for my food to arrive. I had to to ask the bar tender twice, "Is my food coming any time soon?". He told me that they are short staffed. But it was lunch and really, not crowded at all. At least half the tables were empty. When the food arrived, I couldn't believe it. My shrimp burrito was tiny! In great contrast to the big beautiful burrito featured on the menu, you could have inserted this burrito inside the cardboard of a toilet paper roll. It was so thin and there were maybe 4 or five shrimp inside the burrito. Virtually nothing else. Some thin, runny sauce. It was supposed to come with rice, beans, salad. The plate was barren except for rice thrown on the side. I literally called over the bartender and said, "Excuse me, but you have got to be kidding me. I waited for 50 minutes for this? Its tiny! Where are the beans? Where is the salad? No guac or sour cream or shredded lettuce? Nothing? Just this skinny burrito and some rice on the plate? This is $13! I am very disappointed." He just looked at me irritated and said again that they are short staffed. The "special shrimp burrito" itself was fair. I could have done MUCH better at home. Really, I could have gone to Taco Bell. Anyway, he ran to the kitchen, brought out a side of refried beans, and plopped it down next to my plate. That was it. I once again showed him the photo that was on the menu: big, colorful, lots of stuff on the side, the burrito was covered in a wonderful sauce with a drizzle of creamy sauce. Then showed him what arrived on my plate. He looked at me, annoyed, and just walked away to continue making his drinks. Ah, I did forget one other positive note. The spicy salsa and chips that I ate while waiting an eternity for my food to arrive was very good. Great salsa. And my beer was served in a frozen mug, that was good. In the end, I will not be back to La Joya. Very dissatisfied with the service and my entree was disgrace to be served to a customer. I can't recommend this restaurant and if you decide to go, I hope you have a better experience than I did. read more

Great vegetarian section on the menu! Everything we ordered had great flavor, and the staff were friendly and helpful, including the owner who came by to see how we were doing. I rarely have so many vegetarian choices, and the tacos were great - I had lentil, potato, and zucchini. Also loved the street corn side. With all the great reviews I expected the food and drink to be better than we experienced. We got the medium margaritas and they were watered down without taste and I'm not sure it had more than a splash of tequila. The beef enchilada and taco were dry. May have been leftover from lunch. The salsa tasted like it had ketchup in it. The chips were okay but very thick. I don't recommend this restaurant. read more

The Owner(s) refused to serve me because I had a service dog with me. So I asked for their names that way I can give it my my attorney, and they refused and told me I can go out back to the patio and eat there. I left went outside to take a picture of the establishment and they called the cops on me. I don't normally review anything, but feel the need to. We happened upon La Joya last night and it was excellent. We started on the restaurant side, then moved to the bar side, which was more inviting. My sister had the Salmon de la Casa, which was grilled on top of a pineapple and was delicious and festive. The fajitas were the best I have seen and I am a Mexican food snob from southern AZ. Our server was very attentive and the owner, Juan, even came by to check on us. He makes the corn tortillas by hand every day. I highly recommend this new restaurant! read more

After a serious restaurant debacle with a neighboring business who apparently lost our reservation even though we had our confirmation email; we ventured into this Gold Mine of a spot in Downtown Greer! The waitresses were awesome! We were a party of 9 and they had another party of around 15 celebrating a birthday. They quickly took our drink orders and the drinks were very good. Our food was even better! I ordered the steak Mexicano and it was delicious and I was please that I did t have to play "find the shrimp" on this dish as they were big and grilled to perfection! Quite a few people came in while we were dining and the owner came out of the back to check on us once we received our meal! This place knows the importance of Customer Service and friendliness. This will keep me and my other 8 colleagues coming back for their menu and atmosphere. I will spread the word and support them on a regular basis. read more

We went for the first time this evening. I was a little concerned after reading negative reviews about service, but I couldn't have asked for better. The waitress was polite, friendly, and attentive. I had the steak quesadilla while my friend got a combo plate. We were given chips and both hot and mild salsa while we waited. Note: the hot is VERY hot. The salsa was good.
