I am bumping this up a star based on the restaurant doing some changes they have made. There still is no salsa bar, but they have made efforts to make it brighter inside and more open and also added a nice outdoor seating area. Food wise, the addition of the street tacos is an excellent change. Served with rice and beans and a choice of corn or flour tortillas, the choices are steak, chorizo, pastor, chicken, pork, tongue or goat (birra style). It is convenient for me to drop in here for lunch, so in spite of my prior review, I would occasionally pop in here. Now, with the pollo asado (grilled chicken) tacos on corn tortilla's with cilantro and onion and green tomatillo salsa, it is a regular. For $11 lunch, this is a good deal. The service is good too. My impression is that this restaurant is set up for happy hour and dinner and then a party. the bar area is of significant size and the bar is at least twenty feet long and well stocked. They have happy hour, advertise the 'best' margaritas, and host karaoke at nights. I didn't bump it another star to four, but it was close, primarily because it is noisy and adding to that noise is a jukebox type of thing that you will not want to be seated near. So, some positive changes in the atmosphere and food options have been positive. read more

My go to lunch place. They consistently have the best chips and salsa of any Mexican place - and I eat a lot of Mexican food. I have tried most of the menu items over the years, but my favorite is the Fajita Mix Burrito. Staff is friendly, and there is not a high rate of turnover. It is nice to eat somewhere where the people remember you (and remember that I drink lots of tea). For negatives, the music is too loud, and I didn't love the regular fajitas. read more

Derling S., our server was everything a great server should be - FAST, Efficient, Friendly. The manager, Vanessa even came over after to ask how we liked it since it was our first time. We told her it was the Best and we will definitely be back. I had a very fresh Taco Salad with shredded chicken, beans, guacamole, sr cream, lettuce and tomato. The shell was tasty and crispy too. My husband had beef enchilada, chili rellano, beans and rice. We asked Derling "Why don't Mexican restaurants in Carolinas serve both beans and rice together with meals instead of one or the other? So she brought both and were happily satisfied. I'm not a salsa or avocado fan but this Azteca changed my mine. The guacamole and salsa were both very tasty. Had dinner here after an oil change a few weeks ago. Server was very friendly and quickly corrected a few hiccups which occurred during the dining process. We decided to try a new place & this hit the spot right on! The atmosphere is awesome! Love the decor and the mural of the Mexican Romeo & Juliet! The lighting was beautiful, the agave chandeliers were absolutely a beautiful touch! The service was excellent! Loved chatting it up with our sever, Jose! He made our first time here an excellent time and will definitely ask for him in future visits. He was always quick to getting everything we asked for or needed! Last but certainly NOT least... the food. The best chimichangas by far. So soft but super crispy in the right places. The salsa, queso, & any & all things food was the best I've had by far! The chicken quesadilla doesn't disappoint either. It was filled with chicken and made you full before you could finish the whole thing. The margaritas were amazing! Karaoke night seems to be every night and family gathering spot for weekend entertain. Packed house this evening and lots of confident singers LOL. Great for kids and the resturant is divided into two parts. One side is a bar and karaoke and the other side is ample seating to dine, watch the game or simply listen to the music and people watch. They upgraded the decor about two years ago and is an eclectic southwestern feel with several beautiful wall murals which appear to be hand painted. Ordered Texana Nachos: shrimp, steak and chicken nachos covered in Queso dip and 12 wings for the kiddos. Food delivered fast and hot. Wings cooked a tad longer than I'd like but seasoned perfectly. We came on a busy Sunday at 1:00 and we got our delicious food & were done eating by 1:30. We both got the lunch chicken quesadilla that comes with rice and beans. The quesadilla had so much juicy shredded chicken inside with cheese. Just simple but filling. Their complimentary chips & salsa were also great although the salsa is very spicy (we love spicy) you can tell they make their salsa and chips in house. Service was great & fast. I've lived in the neighborhood for over 3 years and recently discovered this restaurant and I love it!! The staff are very sweet and all the things I've ordered are very tasty and come out quickly. This is my 3rd visit in 2 weeks and decided to dine alone for a quick dinner. I'm not sure how crowded they get but they do have a bar and I think a regular crowd that gathers for Karaoke. Lunch meal for me so needed something light and I got the tostada de ceviche order of two. Besides tacos de carne Asada this is my other go to. The other two photos are just chicken and rice and Molcajete with all meats. Ok I do agree with one thing some the low scores on here have. They do allow smoking in the bar side of this restaurant. If it bothers you then try to sit on the far left side when you come in. I don't smoke but it hasn't ever really bothered me but I can see for some it would. Besides that though the food is fantastic. My wife and I drive from the North side of Greer on 29 all the way to this place when we want Mexican food. The staff is great and you won't run out of drink. If you like fajitas I recommend trying something a little different called the Molcajete Dona pepa. It is $16 but it's this huge lava rock bowl with every kind of meat you can think chicken, beef steak, chorizo, shrimp, pork topped with cheese, a large pepper, onions and grilled cactus (yum). served with your choice tortillas side of rice, beans and salad with sour cream and guac. Met the wife and kids here for lunch. For some reason, they didn't have school today. They had been here before and really liked it, so I decided to see what the fuss was about. I wasn't impressed. The prices are WAY more expensive than any other Mexican restaurant lunch menu in town. Nothing under $6. Most stuff was $7-$8, including my chimichanga. I could have dealt with the higher price had the portion size been larger, but it was smaller than any others in the area. Mix high prices with small portions, and you get a smack across the proverbial face. Add in barely average food, and its game over. I couldn't tell if the chicken was fresh or not. Been here many times before but a couple of days ago I received the worst service from them... I ordered a non-spicy shrimp cocktail along with other items. Unfortunately, when I got home I realized that it was in fact spicy. Not only was I noticing and tasting it, but my wife as well. I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager to very politely point this out. I was told the owner, Leticia, was present. I waited for her to come to the line and when she did I was extremely surprised because of her unprofessional greeting. Call me old-fashioned, but I was waiting for "good afternoon" or "hello how are you? how can we help you?" but instead I got "yeah." I shared my concern and she asked who my waitress was. After providing Leticia with the name, she said "let me talk to her to find out what she heard." At this point I'm thinking why would you need to speak with her. I have no reason to lie. Shouldn't taking care of the customer be the number one concern? After waiting for a while, the waitress came on the line. Needless to say I was a bit confused because I was speaking with the owner and with no indication that I was going to be transferred to someone else I found myself repeating the story yet again. The waitress then put me on hold again after telling me she had to check with the kitchen because she did take down the order correctly. A few minutes later I was again blind transferred; this time to someone in the kitchen who assured me that the cocktail was not spicy. As I was finding myself in a back-and-forth battle, A fifth person comes to the phone. His name is David and he was very rude and unprofessional. He was making remarks about an order that I placed sometime ago. There was zero empathy and the solution they presented was not feasible. They wanted me to repack the food bring it back to them so they could "fix it." I was most disappointed for the way the owner handled the whole thing. If I were the owner I would want to take care of the customer and handle the problem myself directly not having four or five people come to the phone - or, at the very least, have been more professional when putting me on hold to connect me with someone else and avoid me from having to explain my situation several times. read more

We've been coming to Azteca for years and hate to say that the service has gone down hill. Met my family last night for dinner, the waitress took quite some time to wait on us, and then half way through ordering she left the table. She returned over 20 mins later to finish taking our order. She was very rude when my husband asked for onions to be left off his order. The food took another HOUR to arrive during which time no wait staff returned to check on us so we could just cancel our order and pay for our drinks. My husband asked staff to speak with management 2 times and was left standing at the register for approximately 20 mins before he gave up and returned to our table. We couldn't even get someone to give us a bill so we could pay for our drinks and leave. The owner walked by several times as we waited to speak with someone and never acknowledged us. This is TERRIBLE customer service. There are way too many Mexican restaurants to chose from, in a close area, to accept such terrible service and mediocre food. I will not be back. It's sad when you cannot get service and are treated so disrespectfully. That tells me they do not value my business. read more

I have been eating at this restaurant since 2004. It used to be another name (Montezuma?) but had same management. My wife and I ate here tonight, ordered our usual - Quesedilla Suprema - and it did not taste right. When I complained to the manager, she INSISTED everything was OK, nothing had changed and made NO effort or offer to compensate us for a bad meal.
