La Jacobine est fantastique! But you'll want a reservation. Call ahead or the wait can be over an hour. We had the duck breast with mushrooms sauce and the duck tajine at our table - both were phenomenal. I had the "Magret Canard" (duck breast) and ordered it cooked medium. I had no regrets. For dessert we had the Mille Feuille and the Crumble aux pommes et rhubarbs. Both were delicious in their own way AND the server put a candle in my friend's dessert and sang happy birthday with the whole restaurant. Le Mille Feuille is sweet without being overwhelming. It's light and delicious, but a huge serving. The crumble is a wonderful fall/winter dessert; heavy and full of cinnamon. The dessert table is right by the door, so make sure to take a look! Both of us said "we should come back..." at the end of the meal. Absolutely amazing restaurant and I can see why people wait for over an hour outside for a table. read more

I wouldn't leave Paris without having at least escargot, French onion soup, foie gras, and rosé. I managed to have all 4 here at La Jacobine! Wait time was about 20 minutes, which will blow by fast by walking up & down the alleyway where the restaurant is located. As mentioned, we had French onion soups and the escargots to start. My entree was a "sandwich" with foie gras as the buns with jam in the middle over a small salad and bread. My colleague had a salmon and veggies dish. Everything was great except the escargot was underwhelming and extremely difficult to get out of the shell. It was covered in a leafy sauce which was good but not amazing. If you're claustrophobic this may not be the place for you. Waiters even had a hard time maneuvering around and accidentally spilled something on my colleague. Also the spiral stairs down to the bathroom is really narrow, if I was plastered I would definitely fall on my face :p Overall rating: 3.87 lol. I would come back if I was in the area and not a long wait. read more

Definitely make a reservation in advance. We'll worth it. Had the escargot and lamb shank. Service is excellent, and the food is amazing.

Last dinner here was 2015 and loved it. This time it fell a bit short. Coq au vin was a bit tough and didn't have the depth of flavor we remembered. However the escargot were a absolutely utterly delicious. Exactly how they should be prepared. Butter parsley and a hint of garlic and most importantly in the shell. The goat cheese appetizer must have had several tablespoons of cheese in each piece cause it squished all over when biting into the lovely pastry. read more

Seriously I had at least 4 onion soups and this was the BEST I had in Paris! I almost gave up! The reason why I went was for the rave reviews on the Coq Au Vin (rooster stew). I've had it before, but wanted to try it in Paris. It was delicious,, but I wish I tried the duck instead because that looked even better! House red is easy to drink and the pour is very generous. :) read more

Excellent French cuisine. Well worth the wait. Highly recommended. Small restaurant. Reservations are a must

One of our favorite restaurants while visiting Paris! A family member had recommended for us to try this restaurant and we are so glad we did. Alex, our server, was absolutely fantastic. He was extremely kind and patient even when the restaurant was slammed full of people. Along with the welcoming environment, the food was delicious as well. The French onion soup and wine beef stew were some of my favorite items, along with anything off of the dessert menu. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely little Parisian spot to grab dinner. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Paris. read more

We were excited to go to this restaurant today. The food was quite good actually - onion soup, duck confit, roasted lamb shank, but the service was pretty much non-existent! Our waitress was dismissive and condescending. We were one of the first couples seated, yet our waitress was lackadaisical in even getting us our drinks, bread, and we finally had to ask the other waiter - a smiling, warm young man who was very attentive to his customers, to get us water. Again, the food was good. If you go, ask to be seated with the young gentleman, where you will be treated respectfully... read more

Adorable little restaurant tucked away in a picturesque alley. Heavenly French onion soup. It is a very large portion covered in a thick layer of cheese. It was so good but I had to put it aside so that I could enjoy the rest of my meal. I also had duck confit with veggies. A nice change from all the potato sides I had in France. The duck itself was succulent and the skin super crispy. The Nutella Tiramisu I had for dessert was epic. Might be my all-time favorite dessert. Oh and this was all part of a reasonably priced 3 course prix fixed menu. read more

This place is DELICIOUS and DIVINE. It was actually my last meal in Paris and I am so glad I got to try this place before I left! The service is amazing! Our waiter was always checking up on us despite having a lot of guests to take care of too! For starters I got the French onion soup which was probably one of the best onion soups I had in Paris!! Perfectly cheesy. My boyfriend got the sausage and cheese and I kept stealing from his plate because it was so good!! By the time I was done with the starters I was almost full ahaha For our meals my boyfriend got the crepe which looked like perfection and I got the chicken with potatoes (I forget what it's called) but the chicken was nice and moist and the seasoning was so delicious. Unfortunately I was too full to go for desserts but make sure to save room for the desserts because they looked delicious!! Overall I absolutely loved this place. read more

The space is very cute in a nice alleyway full of shops in the popular neighborhood of Saint Germain. The service was one of the friendliest and quite fluent in English. However, the food was only decent. I had their namesake La Jacobine salad, which was eye-popping big, with a whole slice of quiche hidden underneath 15 other ingredients. The ingredients were fresh, from blanched haricot verts, sliced cantaloupe, eggplants, chicken breast, frisée, etc but it was underwhelming in the flavor department. There wasn't much dressing to heighten it's flavor, other than a light drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. I didn't get to try a warm entree, as we were moving on to another destination, but would definitely come back the next time I'm in Paris for a full-service dinner, as that seems to be their forte. read more

This is a wonderful place. The food was fantastic and the ambiance was exceptional. When you go back next time, we are in Paris.

The restaurant is down in an alley off the Main Street and can be a little difficult to find but it's definitely worth seeking out. The French onion soup is as good as its reputation of being the best in the city. All the food from onion soup to the escargot to the duck confit were excellent. The desserts were to die for. Definitely recommend the Profiteroles! You can't go wrong with ordering anything on this menu. With more time in Paris, we definitely would have gone back to try the other items. We got to the restaurant about 25 minutes before opening at noon and were the first ones sat. We were nervous about going to a Parisian restaurant with 3 kids (ages 8, 9, 11) but the servers were more than accommodating pulling 3 small tables together along the booth on the wall. We felt bad so we told him we'd manage with 2 tables but he insisted we used 3 tables for our comfort. The servers spoke English so ordering wasn't an issue. The restaurant is small and filled up very quickly so we'd suggest going there right at opening or just prior to avoid waiting in a queue. Overall, it was a great experience in French dining and will be a must stop in our future Paris travels. read more

They're famous for the best onion soup in Paris, which I think is true. Also great duck confit and excellent service.

Great bistro in an ancient alleyway. Definitely worth securing a reservation, because you will need it. The goat cheese salad was simple, classic and delicious. The coq au vin was nive clean flavors with veggies that were not over-cooked (the mushrooms were especially delicious). The duck and salmon were also enjoyed by my family. Great spot. read more

If you're a first timer in Paris! I highly recommended this restaurant! I had 3 days to spend in Paris and I went there twice. The entrees are great and Tiramisu and Cheesecake are the best I ever tasted! If you are going to this place I Highly make a reservation because even with a reservation you probably have to wait 30 -40 mins because they are a smaller restaurant and always packed. I would get there like 30 mins before your reservation because you don't have to wait that long! Ask for Alex, he is the French Asian server! Why? Because there is another guy who is a bit younger will ask you to leave once you finished your meal because there are people waiting outside which l understand. Alex would not ask you to leave and take your time to talk to your friends or whatever until you're ready to leave. The prices are very reasonable. I live in the DC area, it is less than Restaurants in the Tyson Corner area and Reston area for sure! Joke on the side... " what kind of Asian speaks French, stop humiliating yourself " . Lmao. If you get it. read more

Charming French cafe on the left bank. Delicious classics with hilarious wait staff.

I will edit my review later, but this is NOT the best French onion soup in Paris, and this place is not worth the wait. The food is average at best. Expect to have overcooked everything. read more

This became my must go to restaurant when in Paris. Didn't believe my sister when she raved about this place. I came here twice during my 4 day vacation in Paris. The French onion soup here is THE BEST. After having it, none of the other French onion soup can even satisfy me. Not only that, the escargot is equally amazing! Great size, and cooked to perfection. My main entree was the beef stew which was very simple, yet perfect. It was a savory, home cooked flavor. The sides complemented it perfectly. Totally recommend trying to book a reservation first because this place gets busy! read more

La Jacobine - French onion soup and my cab - Tea Rooms Near Me - Paris, 75

It can be hit and miss eating in Paris -most places are expensive and you never know if you're getting good value for your euros. Seeing la Jacobine as a highly rated restaurant we made the long walk from the eiffel tower to try it out. Luckily they had one table for two available when we arrived so we were seated immediately. The staff were really attentive, they stopped to chat to plenty of tables while we were there giving that extra mile of service. The food itself was delicious - My French onion soup with gruyère croutons was delicious, so warming for the cold weather outside. There were people queueing by the time we left which is a testament to it's reputation. Wine is available in multiple sizes which helps to manage the budget! And the tiny toilet downstairs is a work of using whatever space you have! read more

A few tips and observations about La Jacobine. First, the food is notably superior to the typical French cafes I had been eating at during my stay in Paris. Others have written so much that I'll be concise and simply say that my meal was delicious, and that I wish I could have tried more dishes. Second, the restaurant is both small and popular, so make a reservation if you can. I was fortunate that my schedule allowed me to eat early (7 pm -- that's an early dinner in Paris, and the first reservation available) on a Tuesday. By eight there was a small crowd gathered outside hoping for a table. A notable surprise: even the French waiter was nice! Very unusual for Paris. The restaurant isn't far from Sainte Michel and the area is touristy, so don't be surprised if you're surrounded by other Americans. read more

Little cozy restaurant tucked in an alleyway. You can spot it from the opposite end of the street because there is a crowd outside waiting for a spot. Service was professional, place was packed but they kept everything moving. I would like to shout out our waiter for showing me how to eat escargot after seeing my struggle. My friend and I really liked the escargot and foie gras. We didn't like our entrees as much (her duck and mushrooms, me duck confit) but I also get the impression that maybe we didn't order the entrees that the restaurant is known for. Overall, happy that this place was my first proper French meal in Paris. read more

Oh Paris, oh La Jacobine!!! I am in love!! On my birthday trip to Paris my husband and I had a few hours to spare before our appointment time to visit the top of the Notre-Dame Cathedral. So we decided to stay near the area and have dinner, then dessert. We stumbled upon this amazing narrow gated street, and decided to have dinner. I will post about dinner in a later post but after dinner we decided to walk down the same street, and have dessert since, we had extra time to spare annnnd we stumbled upon La Jacobine!!!! This is a little eatery, they serve meals but we came for the beautiful dessert we saw in front of the glass window. We were kindly seated immediately the place is so cute. We sat near two couples and a family on the opposite side. I ordered the chocolate cake Ohhhhh to the MG!!! It was a chocolate molten cake with caramel, it was accompanied by Madagascar vanilla ice cream that was just as outstanding, as the cake itself. My husband had I believe a raspberry flakey Pastry cake that I can not recall the name of but it was delicious as well. The decor is very cozy feeling, dim lighting but not dark at all , the staff is very welcoming and helpful in making selections. You must take a trip to the restroom it is downstairs but you must walk down the narrowest, tiny, spiral steps, and there is no possible way for another person to pass you, in the tiny space, it is pretty funny. So if ever in Paris visit La Jacobine!!! read more

This place is in a tourist area with zero french speaking customers, which in most cases means "stay the hell away". This makes the quality of the food here all the more incredible. Everything - the lamb shanks, the duck, the french onion soup, the desserts - exceeded my expectations by a mile. On top of that, the service is ultra-friendly, with the waiter giving me a long, touching explanation as to why they bother to serve this level of food to philistines in sweatpants who wander in shouting English or Mandarin. I'm awarding La Jacobine a rare sixth star, one of three I've given out of 500 reviews. Don't miss it. Plan on waiting for a table, as the secret's out. read more

Incredible food and service in a quaint, characteristically Parisian atmosphere. My party of 5 arrived at the restaurant without reservation, but we were accommodated with the greatest effort possible. Our waiter was happy to help us find a seat and orient ourselves with the menu. I ordered the Entree + Plat + Dessert special, which cost about €30. For the entree, I had the onion soup au gratin, and it was incredible: the bread and cheese was perfectly toasted atop fresh, rich onions and a creamy broth. Then, I had the spinach-wrapped salmon. It was served modestly, atop aluminum foil paired with rice and vegetables, but it tasted great. The salmon was perfectly cooked, melting in your mouth along with the smooth texture of spinach and cream. The leftover juices were a comfortable marinade to the rice and vegetables as well. Finally, the waiter guided me to the a la carte dessert menu. I chose the raspberry "shortcake," easily identifiable by its heart shaped cakes sandwiching cream and raspberries. Oh my lord, was this great: the brightly colored cake was moist and crispy, complementing the raspberry cream fantastically. It was a great cap to my dinner, and I left the place wanting to go back. I might today, even! If you're in the area, and you can secure a table, go here! It's a perfect way to end an evening after a walk along the Rue du Buci. read more
