Beautiful outdoor courtyard seating. Amazing food and service! Outstanding drinks- the mango drink with mezcal was delicious as well as excellent margaritas! Ordered the pi il and fajitas and the house specialty in the giant coconut-great portions and flavorful dishes. And the "dessert"- you must experience the Mayan coffee- table side fireshow and tasty tasty coffee drink. And did I mention there is a magician going table to table - so fun! Minds blown with some of his excellent card tricks and slight of hand. Thanks Habichuela for à lovely and memorable family dinner!
We went on a recommendation from another couple at the resort we were staying at. They were not lying. We didn't have reservations but were greeted at the door and sat in the garden. Absolutely beautiful and romantic. We started with a margarita. It was top notch. We ordered a Caesar salad, which is for 2 and made at our table. The precision and care that went into that salad were incredible to watch!! I knew it was going to be delicious. And it was. We shared the special, surf and turf with shrimp, lobster and steak with a baked potato and 3 different dipping sauces. It was so delicious and SO much food!! We saved room for the chocolate cake that was so yummy but the perfect amount of sweet to finish a meal. We absolutely loved our experience and look forward to our next visit.

Lobster Tail, chocolate cake, drinks and my gosh the service was outstanding! (Thank you Alfredo for a wonderful night out) parking was right out front too! We will be back for sure!!!!!
A part of Cancún's culinary landscape for four decades Restaurante La Habichuela prides itself on fine Mexican and Caribbean Cuisine plus professional service, lunch on a Sunday finding the place nearly empty and stifling as a lone window air-conditioner struggled to keep up with June heat. At one time also part of the Hotel Zone, that location since shuttered and leaving behind only the downtown original, it is beginning at 12:30 that guests are offered a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, the latter un-shaded on wrought-iron chairs in a central garden. Revered for Seafood, mostly caught by local Fishermen and offered at premium prices, it is while decisions are made that Bread is offered, a fluffy crumb with Garlic enjoyable even without Butter while a soundtrack of 80s power ballads plays overhead. Mostly classic in terms of style, occasional Mayan influences found amongst Proteins prepared in varying ways, Appetizers consisted of fresh Shrimp served in proper Cocktail form alongside a Crepe loaded with Cheese and Corn Smut beneath a blanket of silky Hollandaise. Inspired by the famous haciendas of Yucatan, and slow in terms of pace, it was with a fan pointing directly at the table that Entrees were presented 60 minutes after seating, a grilled Lobster Tail exactly what one would expect next to Rice and Vegetables while "The Famous Cocobichuela" earns its signature status thanks to a lot of Seafood and aromatic Curry begging to be scooped from a Coconut.
This place is a gem! Excellent service, incredible food and a great environment. We went there the first time just to see the menu and ended up having a full meal (and amazing margaritas). We returned two night later for dinner. The menu is reasonably priced. The atmosphere of the restaurant is perfect, music that you can hear but stull can have a nice conversation, air conditioning in the indoor area of the restaurant, bartenders who were very attentive and service oriented, and appetizers prepared right in front of you. All in all, a great experience.
This place is fantastic. If you're ever in Cancun you must check this place out. I can't stand all of the chain restaurants in the Cancun hotel zone. It's like why travel to another country to eat the same food that you eat day in and day out where you're from? It makes ZERO sense to me. In any event, you will not go wrong with this place. While it's pricey by Cancun standards, it's a serious bargain by US standards. The service here was also first rate! The waiters were super attentive and friendly. I had the cocoabicheula which was DELICIOUS. Just simply amazing. I can't wait to go back to Cancun and eat at this place again.
Beyond amazing service, food, and ambiance. My cousin and I were staying in an all inclusive resort on hotel row in Cancun and wanted a change of scenery. I found La Habichuela on yelp and was so glad we came! From the moment you walk in, you are presented with a necklace (cute gesture) and feel like you're right at home within the mayan culture. The waiters are the sweetest and present parties with both Spanish and English menus along with their recommendations. I had the surf and turf (steak and lobster tail) which was accompanied with a baked potato and veggies. This place is a must for anyone traveling to Cancun! However, keep in mind that it is a 15-40 minute drive, depending on traffic. The USD currency for a taxi each way was $16.
La Habichuela has a nice, classy casual atmosphere. It's on kind of a side street but is just a few blocks from Parque las Palapas, so it's easy to find. Quick highlights: -The dining room is like stepping into an old world courtyard with white tablecloth service. There are also Mayan touches here and there, so it's an interesting combo. -I enjoyed the pollo en mole, which was a good portion size and had nice flavor. It wasn't as flavorful as what you might expect in a small shack on the side of the road--that's where you get the best stuff anywhere near Cancún--but it was FAR and away better than any of the foolishness you'd find in the Hotel Zone. -My first server was hit or miss. Well, he was really just a miss and was about as present as Casper the Friendly Ghost. But he was later replaced by an older gentleman who was kind, friendly, and profusely apologetic about the first guy's aloofness. I appreciated that.
Wanted to try some traditional Yucatecan food and we found this spot online. Servers were distinguished gentlemen who made excellent recommendations and made us feel at home. We tried the tikin xic fish, the relleno negro, and the braided squid. The squid definitely stood out - so tender and flavorful, and went perfectly with their house habañero sauce. Drinks were just okay.. I ordered an avocado margarita which did not have any avocado flavor at all. Overall, decent place. read more

Excellent ristorante with authentic food. Fresh, delicious and the service is top notch! This place is located in the downtown area and has been around for around 45 years. This is a must if you are in the area and well worth a cab fare to go. I will return to the area and try more food and drinks here! Amazing! read more

Food is good but the service is SLOW AS F*CKKKKK! Don't come here when you're hungry/hangry. Disclaimer: I was hungry when I got here. It took the service 30 mins to ASK US what we want to order. To be fair: 5 stars for food 1 star for the sloth service read more

Had a couple of wonderful meals here. Food was very good. Service was excellent. Loved my steak and lobster dinner. Free bread with your meal which is always a nice touch. If I'm ever back in Cancun, I will definitely be back for the steak and lobster. read more

Food took 1.5 hrs before being served even though the restaurant wasn't busy, had many empty tables and we had a reservation in advance. Appetizers weren't served before the main course. The food itself was acceptable but was served cold (I had the chicken mole).. After complaining, they mentioned they had some issues in the kitchen and they did offer complimentary margaritas and deducted cost of appetizers and also offered free dessert. At that point however we were already too disappointed/not in the mood to further partake. The waiter was polite and personable but would have appreciated more if they proactively communicated any issues beforehand. read more

A OK but not spectacular Mexican restaurant. Surf and turf - pretty good, especially for the lobster. I prefer lemon juice rather than butter on the lobster. Habitchuela vegetable soup - quite a bit of cream in the soup. Not my cup of tea. Seafood in ajillo/garlic sauce. So so. Expected better. The garden is quite beautiful - full of replicas of Mayan sculptures. Music is quite old schooled. read more

If you check into La Habichuela on Yelp, you will find a coupon for a free bottle of wine. It was a house wine, but it was free and complemented the food nicely. They served a small crab salad as an appetizer. A waiter came around with breads, including a banana bread and they also presented an amazing artisanal butter to complement the bread. La Habichela is a pretty space and the day I ate there, there was a wedding. As a result, there was no outdoor seating. This would normally take a star off the final tally, but the complementary wine puts back what would otherwise be a 4. The Tuna tartar was pretty well sized and had fresh avocado. The Guacamole was small but, they were very honest about that before it was ordered upon being asked about sizing. The rancho steak was decent. It was not phenomenal. The portions were decent. Lemon sorbet was presented between meals as a palate cleanser. Ultimately, this restaurant could have easily been assessed a three or a four as the food was decent, but nothing overwhelmed. However, they were solid, and the service was real service, and not just waiter service. The waiter was responsive, extremely well versed with the menu and took his time to explain the options and to ensure that everything was going well during the meal. The wait staff seemed akin to high end waiters with butler training that you find at fine restaurants. It was these touches that earned back one or two stars, making this more of a 4.2 star rating. read more
Service: amazing and attentive Atmosphere: gorgeous and romantic Food: unfortunately, left much to be desired Came here on a Friday night and enjoyed the visit. Had the food been prepared well, I would have given this restaurant an easy 5. The ambiance is gorgeous, it's like sitting in your own little yucatan garden. Some music in the background was playing quietly and the night sky full of stars right above. However, the shrimp steak was so terribly over salted we could barely eat it. Their signature cocobichuela dish was ok, if it wasn't for the cool presentation, there would be nothing notable about it at all. Wines are very much on the pricey end, although served and aerated properly. read more
Ate in the garden area. I am not sure if my review can accurately reflect the ambiance and experience because the night we were here they were filing some kind of advertisement in the main section of the garden area. They initially tried to seat us directly in front of some bright spot lights. Not at all what we were looking for based on what the garden area normally offers in romantic setting. Unfortunately it took some convincing for them to move us to a more secluded area to dine. We had three dishes. The soft shell crab (excellent), the house soup (excellent), and the shrimp and beef flambé (underwhelmed). The drinks were pretttty good but not great. My wife liked the chocolate dessert. Our server was very good. All in all I was pleased but the experience did not live up to expectations. read more

I can't believe we have never heard of this restaurant in all the years we have been coming to Cancun. It has been around since 1977 and is located in old Cancun. It is definitely worth the effort to get there. We used Uber to and from and cost about 200 pesos each time from the La Isla shopping center (about $10 US). We did have a little problem getting the return Uber, several just drove by and kept going. We suspect it may have been due to the presence of cab drivers right outside the restaurant (there have been altercations in Cancun between Uber drivers and taxi drivers). After we walked a short distance away, we got picked up. The restaurant itself is beautiful with a courtyard garden to dine in. There is also indoor seating available. Our waiter was Alfredo, and he seemed to have a great number of returning customers who greeted him as a long-lost friend. However, all the staff was attentive if something was needed. We had the Caesar salad prepared tableside by Ulysses. We have had Caesar salad prepared tableside many times in the past but never with as much care as Ulysses prepared ours. Additionally, it was a very generous portion, it easily could have served 3 or 4. My wife had the fish of the day (grouper) and I had the chicken mole, which was just the right amount of spicy. For desert, we shared the Bananas Foster. The whole meal was delicious and filling. The atmosphere was great, the pace slow and the service wonderful. read more

Amazing food, service and ambiance. We came to celebrate my daughter's birthday, family of 5. We all thoroughly enjoyed the over-the-top service we received. The food was spectacular (my birthday daughter is a vegetarian and extremely particular about the menu) amongst the beautifully designed and lit garden. All of our meals were scrumptious and although plentiful, not an empty plate amongst us (if it wasn't against decorum, we would have licked our plates!) With a final birthday cake song and dessert. There is a reason this establishment has been around for 46 years! It is a must when visiting Cancun! read more

We stayed in downtown Cancun for three days and wanted to try something different than hotel zone. We chose here because my mom was very interested in the coconut dish. The ambience was relaxing. Decor was very unique and impressive, with a tropical and romantic vibe. We were greeted by the doorman and our server warmly. First of all, 6/7 kinds of complementary bread to choose from a basket with softened butter. I highly recommend the onion bread. For drinks I had pinã colada, which was bland with ice chunks in it. Do not recommend. Mojito was good. Soft shell crab was barely warm so I wonder if it was freshly cooked. It came with several sides: tortilla, fried bean and avocado. String bean soup was good. Shrimp and lobster in a coconut was the highlight of our dinner. Very generous portion of seafood. We chopped the pineapple and plantains and stir them with the rice. Very flavorful. Do not forget to check in on yelp to get the free Mayan coffee. Super fun to watch! There were some flaws but we really enjoyed our dinner here. read more

This restaurant is located away from the Hotel Zone in Downtown Cancun. No worries though it is a quick cab ride or bus ride away so do go and enjoy yourself! I recently dined here on a solo trip to Cancun. Now this is more of a romantic restaurant. The lights are dim and it feels as if you are in a garden with the waterfalls and the beautiful flowers! I ordered their famous dish of the coconut shrimp and lobster curry nestled in a coconut and let me just say Yum, yum, Yum! Deliciousness awaits you in that lovely sauce! There is maybe a cup of white rice in the dish which makes it more of a healthy meal! I think I had the calamari as an appetizer and they give you a guava sorbet on the house as a palate cleanser. It is appropriate to have dressy yet casual attire. There is no enforced dress code. Please too your servers!!! If you're tipping in pesos remember that ten dollars in pesos isn't much. $100 in pesos or $200 more appropriate. The servers are great! You can enjoy your meal without them hovering! I believe they valet as well! I will definitely be back! read more

We've been to this restaurant 20 times. Each time we visit Cancun it is a must visit restaurant. The environment is beautiful, food quality is exceptional, and the service is excellent. You won't find a better place in Cancun for fine dining! read more
