People working here are very nice. Quesiberra must have beef with it I believe- so this particular order is not for a vegetarian. I'm really disappointed with my experience. I waited over 10 minutes for my DoorDash order, and the food was already sitting there ready the entire time. I had to ask about it multiple times before anyone actually acknowledged me or handed it over. This kind of delay is frustrating and completely avoidable. If the order is ready, it should be given to the customer or driver promptly without having to ask repeatedly. Definitely needs better attention to orders and customer service. read more

It's absolutely insane. I traveled all the way from Las Vegas to visit my family, who told me they were taking me to the best Mexican restaurant in all of Philadelphia, and what a surprise! The service was terrible. It took them over an hour to bring our food. On top of that, the restaurant was practically empty, and I noticed some of the cooks smoking in the kitchen. And to top it all off, if you ask what's going on, they get angry and refuse to help you. What a bad impression! Go-to Mexican in upper darby I'm late on reviewing this restaurant, but I order enough to know it's fire. lol the nachos deluxe with chicken, chorizo, and steak is my favorite. Comes complete with alllll the toppings. The platter is huge and heavy.  It's definitely a shareable.  I've also had their chicken burrito, which was also huge and tasty. The shrimp tostadas hit, too. Wanted to give a shot to a place that had some good reviews on Yelp and Google. Since I love hole in the wall joints in Upper Darby, this was the play. The flavor was good for the most part. The steak Milaneza and chicken sope were tasty enough. So was the street corn. That was the hit of the meal. My wife wasn't as impressed with the fajitas. She thought the chicken and cheese were too rubbery. I tasted and I see why she said that. However it did travel during takeout so perhaps it's better right out of the kitchen. Flavors were there though. Plus, the rice and beans that are pictured... no beans. A few peas perhaps. It wasn't what I thought it would be. However I liked the rice flavor a lot. This little Mexico City homage is friendly and delicious. The salsas were exquisite. The quesadilla was massive and delicious with fresh and well executed ingredients, though the tortilla was a bit too thick and dense for my preference. I plan to return for a few of the other items. This is an authentically Mexican spot. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla on suggestion from reviewers. The quesadilla was was overstuffed generously with juicy, plump, buttery shrimp. The toppings were fresh: avocado, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese. They put the quesadilla in a very thick corn tortilla that almost borders on an empanada it is so thick. I found this tortilla's thickness and density to distract from the great flavors inside quesadilla. The meal came with chips and salse to start. The chips are freshly fried. They come hot with a bit of oil still glistening on them. The give way to a clean crisp crunch on the bite. And they have just enough salt on them to tickle the palate. The salsas, red and green, were both phenomenal. These were probably my favorite thing of this meal. The green was such a fresh mix of lime, tomatillo, and some other savory element I couldn't quite identify. The red salsa was too spicy for my wimpy palate. But the little bit I had was excellent. It had a well rounded spicyness with a little smoke, a little garlic (maybe), and acidity. Overall, an excellent choice for Mexican food. read more

I ordered delivery, through Door Dash so I can only give my food experience for this review. I admittedly wasn't too impressed with my tacos al pastor and carnitas, but they were at least authentic in the way that I knew whoever prepared them know what they're supposed to taste like. It's really hard for me to find quality Mexican food in Delco--it really doesn't size up with South Philly. However, for whatever the "just OK" tacos left room for growth, I really enjoyed the horchata! Again, really hard to find quality aguas frescas besides making a friend and getting them to make it for you, but this is at least substantial enough that I'd order it again. I definitely think I'd give this place another shot with something else since my taste is pretty high standard for tacos. I really do think this place has potential! read more

Take my review with a grain of salt, as it was for a take-out order only. I didn't get to experience the ambiance or service, so this review is solely on the taste of the food. My husband and I ordered a carnitas burrito and the grilled chicken taco salad. The burrito was extremely, extremely greasy. I know it's pork, but the tortilla was just leaking grease. The burrito also contained some surprising ingredients, like peas and what appeared to be carrots. Definitely not what I expect in a burrito. The taco salad was pathetic. It was romaine, black beans, raw onion, chicken, and chunks of cheese. It came with no dressing even though I selected one of three options through DoorDash. Thankfully the burrito sauces were plentiful enough that I just dumped some of those on the salad. I don't think I'll be ordering from La Guera again. The prices were right but the taste was just blah. read more

I have always liked the food, and sure my order would be late every now and then, but I was willing to wait. Tonight, I ordered on Uber Eats and 40 minutes after ordering, I get a call telling me they didn't have marinated pork, and did I want to substitute the meat. So I did, and almost an hour after ordering, still no food. I called the restaurant and the lady who answered first said she didn't see my name (she didn't try to look). After she saw I did order, she apologized and said the food would be there in 10 minutes. 40 minutes later, still no food. I called the restaurant at least 3x to see what happened to my food, and every time the person who answered asked me to hold on and then hung up on me. I have never had a restaurant be this rude to me. It's now 9:44 pm about 2 hours and 20 minutes after ordering, and still no food or word from the restaurant. Luckily, Uber Eats has canceled my order and issued a refund. This place needs to just cancel deliveries and online orders if they can't handle the volume of orders. I will never order from this place again and I'm so disappointed because the food is really good. But I refused to order from a place that blatantly hung up in my face 3 times. TLDR: Great food, awful customer service and food may not arrive. read more

Taco Tuesday's are complete now that I have tried this gem. I've dined in once or twice- they give you fresh chips and home made salsa- both red and green. I love their salsas so much I take half pints home with me. The food is always fresh, no weird smells. Tamarindo is on point, and the tres leche cake hits the spot. My favorite dish is the quesbirria- I get it with chicken. It's like a big taco made with a fluffy corn tortilla. I've also had the torta milanesa- both are delicious. Service is great, especially when the little boy in training is taking orders. So glad to have this gem, reminds me of the Mexican spots I loved back home in NYC. read more

To start, like always,I touch on communication with understanding allergens. There was a language gap that made it hard to communicate my girlfriend's nut allergy. Outside of that the waitress seemed confused as to what a nut allergy even was. It isn't as much of an issue in Mexican food but i is still something that makes me personally uneasy. The food. Jesus if this was just about the food it would be 10 stars. Guacamole, tacos, veggie quesadilla, salsa, etc. It was all absolutely amazing. The guacamole was a refreshing style that I tend to like the most. We added a pinch of salt and paired with the green salsa. It could have been a meal in and of itself. The portion I shared is a "small". HA! Small? Sure, if you say so. It was massive. I got shrimp tacos with the works and dear lord I can't think of better shrimp tacos that I have had to compete. Maybe El Purepecha on N 10th. Still, I think these take the cake. They were huge, loaded, and balanced! Absolutely phenomenal. Spice is something the differs so drastically from person to person but I consider myself very average with spicy food. The "I enjoy the taste of spicy food and don't mind a burn but don't want hurt myself" type. I felt these were dead center perfect on spice and flavor. My girlfriend Laura had the chicken tacos and said they were in her words "what she misses about pork tacos" since she no longer eats red meat. That means a lot from Laura. She dropped pork and hadn't found anything she felt came close since. This place made her feel like she wasn't missing out. The veggie quesadilla was something truly special as well. Homemade corn tortilla that had an almost spudy heartiness. It was loaded with cheese, and perfectly sautéed veggies (mushrooms, peppers, squash, and onion). We only got through half of the over foot long monster and brought the rest home and it reheated the next day perfectly. Unheard of in the world of quesadillas in my experience! So yes, like I said. The food was ON POINT. Lastly we hit the service (outside of the issues with communication of Laura's allergies). The waitress was very kind but the service was pretty darn slow. It felt like nothing was getting done. Also they didn't serve water outside of a bottle which I found extremely odd for a restaurant. This places food deserves more than 5 stars. We checked Yelp for "best street tacos" to celebrate The Battle of Puebla on May 5th. This was at the top of the list so off we went. Ambiance: its bright clean and has ample seating. Theres a lunch counter with stools. Fat friendly with solid seating. Even the bathroom is spacious! Food: we got both eat-in and Take-out. Best tacos I've had yet in Philly. They dont skimp on the meat. Have a nice topping of shredded lettuce, onion & cilantro. We also had a carne asada Burrito filled with meat, rice and the afore mentioned cilantro/onion topping. One down side is they dont really have shreaded cheese, which I know is gringa of me but I'm a phat chica and need my queso. Take out we got: more tacos, a gordita, a quesadilla and maduros for dessert. Gordita was meh. Quesadilla was more like a calzone. Very thick corn tortillas The standout star was the plantain cooked Maduro style, in a molasses sauce and sweet cream drizzle. We'll go back just for those! Fat friendly: yes on all counts. Staff was extremely nice. We were there in early afternoon on Cinco de Mayo. Most all the diners were not celebrating. Definitely not Wahoo or Chipotle. Eat local. A friend and I came here for some good Mexican food and we got it! Parking was a little hard to find, but meter parking outside was $25 for 45 minutes which was cheaper than I expected! Our waitress was very nice and brought out chips and two salsas for us. I love spicy food but the red salsa really packed a kick! The green salsa was mild. Both were very tasty and fresh. The chips were a little sweet in my opinion - I'm used to having saltier chips but this is just my personal preference! My friend ordered the chorizo & potato pombazo and said it was delish! I ordered the chicken burrito (because I'm basic lol) and it was bomb! It was so fresh and tasty, and not super rich like many restaurants I've been to. Figured that Upper Darby would have some good Mexican food, so that's where we headed. Free chips and salsa at the beginning, with two types of salsa (green was my favorite). Ordered two things on the menu, but they were out of tamales which was a bummer, but we weren't deterred yet. Our plates came out quickly, looking just like their pictures. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, the chicken was flavorful and thin, the tortillas were fresh and warm, and the carne asada was fantastically flavorful! There was nothing that I wished was different. Couldn't get enough of the green salsa on everything, as well as the carne asada in tortillas and the refried beans on everything. Overall great meal with better mexican food and better prices than I've had in a while. Will be back to try tacos, maybe a burrito, and hopefully tamales. read more

What we ordered: Chicken tacos: I had to instantly question the authenticity of this Mexican restaurant when the tortillas met my mouth. The tortillas were not fresh and were store bought. Then there was the chicken that tasted like day old dry chicken. The tacos were not appetizing at all. Quesadillas: no no no don't do it. Again the chicken was not fresh. Really good takeout. Didn't like it the first time because of the service. But the shrimp quesadilla is something special! Imagine a super long chalupa. That's their quasadilla. AMAZING stuff! Super salty, creamy and fresh. Also, relatively inexpensive compared to Philly prices. Their sauces are also ridiculously hot. We saw a conversation on Facebook about La Guera and decided to give it a try. We had the chicken enchiladas and the chicken burrito. Wow! Both we delicious and more than filling. The grilled chicken in the burrito was noticeably grilled. The sauces were very tasty; I had the green sauce on the enchiladas. The rice was nice and the side of guacamole was fresh and creamy. We very much enjoyed the complementary chips and salsas. The chips-oh my-crisp and salty like I like them. The sauces were so fresh and delicious. The red sauce was spicy and smoky. I put that red sauce on my rice for a little extra kick. The service was pretty quick and wonderfully friendly. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. I highly recommend a visit here. Told them I'd wait for it. 25 minutes later I asked " how long? ". It was then that they told me they didn't have any pork left, so I ordered steak instead. Ok waited another 25 and asked "how long?" I bought soft tacos and vegetarian nachos from here for the first time about three weeks ago. I ordered carnitas (simmering shredded pork) tacos but received chorizo (sausage). Chorizo is naturally well seasoned but, from here, it was much saltier than the usual chorizo I've had. I didn't call about the concern since mistakes can happen. I let one of my family taste it, and they liked it but realized they needed a lot of water after. It came with limes, which was great. The meat was fresh, and the tacos came wrapped perfectly which kept them warm. I also bought a Tres leches cake, and that was richly milky as it should be and perfectly sweetened. This was wrapped nicely to prevent leakage. My concern was the quality of the nachos. It looked nothing like the photos I've seen from here. I asked for whatever that's included. I had about two tablespoons of beans, tomatoes, and 1/4 cup of cheese. It wasn't enough chips or toppings. It was as if someone saved their leftovers. I hardly receive any sour. The nachos were lukewarm and the cheese wasn't melted all the way. Perhaps they had a shortage of ingredients. There's this authentic Mexican place that I usually order from called Don Barriga. It's very similar to this place - they sell almost the same things, except Don Baarriga is better quality. They give you more portions of food. Also, I never experienced receiving the wrong item but as I said, mistakes can happen, even at your favorite go-to place. I wanted to try a new authentic Mexican restaurant, so I gave this place a shot. Some people would consider this experience a 1-star rating. At least one of my family members liked the tacos, so I give this place a 2 out of 5. It could be better. Maybe I just had a bad batch. I'll think twice about purchasing their nachos.
