    Salad

The restaurant is just across from Marriott Hotel, and we went there based on the hotel concierge's recommendation. The menu seems to change every day and posted on the restaurant's website. The server was very nice and discussed our needs patiently. We ordered Rabbit "Marengo" baked with tomatoes plus a salad. The dishes looked pretty, but the flavors were nothing special and derived mainly on the trifecta (fat, sugar and salt). We would expect more at the prices the restaurant charges (perhaps reflecting the price level of the city). We later found a number of other restaurants nearby that served much more flavorful food at similar price levels.

The food was amazing- hats off to the chef, the ambiance was spectacular- great artistic pieces, even the patio looked enjoyable, the prices are amazing as well- where I'm from this dinner would have cost double if not more (and probably would not have been as delicious). I leave one star because the waiter that sat us was the most pretentious prick I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Every single thing he did led me to feel like I wasn't welcome and didn't belong there. I can't tolerate shitty service like that. Won't be back

    A dozen snails, or escargots.

Brasserie La Gare, just like the name implies, is just steps away from the Namesti Republiky metro station and is also close to many tourist attractions. It is indeed in a touristy area, but after having walked a few dozen miles in Prague already, on the last night, close proximity and convenience trumps everything else. We made a reservation online and when we arrived we were promptly led to a table in white tablecloth right next to the window in the dining room. For appetizer, we shared a dozen SNAILS - yes, in Prague, even in a French restaurant, they call them snails, not escargots. In fact, Central Europeans had a long tradition of eating snails even before the French made this delicacy famous. The escargots, ok..., snails, were cooked in rich garlic butter mixed with parsley (that's what the green stuff is just in case you are wondering.) They were delicious, and almost as good as those from the streets of Paris. The CHATEAUBRIAND was brought to us on a carving board together with bone marrow, side dishes of vegetables and mashed potatoes, and a sauce boat full of yummy peppery gravy. Our server carved the beef nicely and plated the dishes meticulously at our table side. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and very flavorful. We could easily tell this was top quality filet mignon and nothing less than the best cut. For the side dishes, I particularly liked the mashed potatoes which tasted like they were made with fresh and naturally creamy potatoes. The peppercorn sauce was rich but not overwhelming, subtly complementing the natural flavor of the steak. Service was 5-star throughout our meal. It began with a complimentary "water melon with bacon" palate cleanser, and ended with complimentary house-made chocolate at the conclusion of our meal. Service was attentive, friendly, prompt but not rushed, and literally white-glove throughout the night. You want me to give you a reason for visiting Brasserie La Gare, or Prague in general? This meal, including two large beers and two glasses of reasonably good wine, cost less than CZK 2,000 which is about US$90. Wanna go?

Twelve tiger prawns in chili/ginger broth ...

Stopped in for a quick lunch as I walk past here almost every day. Decent sized patio seating and a bigger interior dining room with a nice French decor. Seems like a very popular lunch destination - located right around the Namesti Republiky metro. I opted to sit inside and was greeted and seated promptly. It did take a good minute for my waitress to arrive, but once she did the service was good. To note: the menu is in Czech or French I didn't ask if there was an English version, but I got by with my French. I should have chosen from the lunch menu but I got the Tiger Shrimp in a chili, ginger and butter sauce off the regular menu. The shrimp came on it's own so I had to order a separate side, which I chose mashed potatoes (potato puree). The potatoes were delicious, homemade and buttery (YUM!) The broth that the shrimp sat in was delicious flavors, not too spicy from the chili, but I'm not sure if you just order the dish by itself, I guess you can eat the broth like soup? I asked for some bread to sop up some of that rich broth. Also for the $$, they could have offered a side. So, flavors were good, but I wasn't crazy about the texture of the shrimp - almost like it was cooked through too much so it was more chewy than I like. I didn't try dessert this time but the ones I saw going by looked good. This was on the pricey side for lunch and there are lots more less expensive options around.

    Very cool entryway

I really wanted to like this place as it has a cool upscale vibe and fairly attentive service. However, the restaurant was about 85degrees at 7:30 in the evening. It got to the point where multiple people at our business dinner were visible sweating through their clothes. It was so bad that this became a point of comic relief. Do not order the rib-eye; Order the filet as it is 3x as thick and a larger portion (yes, surprising). The snails for an appetizer were incredible and are served in the so conversation went to the scene in Pretty Woman. The fries that accompany the steaks are some of the best ever.

Originally had walked past this place a number of times over the years, finally went in, and am so glad we did. Excellent service and every step of the meal was fantastic. The food was all freshly prepared and the classic French dishes we had were on point. The foie gras in particular was amazing. We live in a city known for poor customer service, so we were extremely happy with the great attention the staff paid to us, how they kept up on requests, things like pouring the wine properly or getting more ice for my water... Couldn't believe how well we were treated.

    La Gare- whopping croque madame!

Authentic French food!! We ate at Brasserie La Gare everyday while in Prague. Just steps from Hilton Old Town. Across the street from the Marriott. 1-1/2 blocks around the corner from Powder Tower. ** Where can you find delicious french onion soup for under 5 USD? ** Try their eggs benedict on potatoes galette for breakfast or Croque Madame if you are hungry. ** Bread is home-made. ** Moist, thick cut grilled porkchop with green peppercorn sauce, mixed salad, and cantaloupe gelato (perfect last meal in Europe before flying home) ** Customer service is professional and courteous (staff speaks great English). ** They open 8a-10p for dining, bar open until midnight. We liked Suzana- she was funny, personable, and she taught us a few words in Czech. She even packed a small bag of chocolates for us to go. The morning of our flight home, my friend ordered the breakfast Set Tradition to go. Suzana surprised us with a box of 3 delicious macarons for each of us to enjoy in the plane. A kind gesture which will remind us of our memorable stay in Prague

Sous vide prepared lamb roll with Provence herbs and eggplant caviar served on shallot sauteed spinach.
    Mark S.

Came here for late lunch on our first day in Prague. I picked this place since it was a recommended place from Rick Steves Prague book. I ordered Sous vide lamb roll on a bed of sauteed spinach and my friend ordered Riasling braised quail with black trumpet mushrooms. While we waited, our waiter brought out a basket of bread. My lamb roll was superb. For the price of 298 Czech Korunas (~$14), it was very reasonable for that much lamb. The lamb was well cooked and very flavorful. The shallot sauteed spinach was very delicious as well. It reminded me of what my mom makes back at home except we use garlic instead of shallots. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for delicious French cuisine at a reasonable price.

    Rabbit in olive sauce
    Noelle R.

Excellent New Years Eve experience. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for the occasion and the service was very attentive. Our glasses were never empty. The food was exceptional - I ordered the rabbit, which was tender and cooked in a delicious olive based sauce. I also sampled the equally tasty escargot and calamari appetizers, and finished with the decadent chocolate fondant. This is the best dinner we have had since arriving in Prague and I will definitely be back for future trips. Highly recommend!

We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious Czech food at La Gare, so much so that we returned the next day for breakfast. They have outdoor seating on a deck, and you can people watch as the world goes by. Great place to dine and relax. The waiters were great, and it always impresses me that they speak so many languages. Special thanks to Frank.

Croque-Madame with fresh ground pepper, YUM!
    Cara G.

A fantastic find! We went for a late breakfast/early lunch and left feeling more than content. By the recommendation of our server, I ordered the Croque-Madame. My friend ordered the omelette with bacon and potatoes, with a side of fresh bread. Not only was the presentation of my dish beautiful, but it was delicious...perfectly executed. I highly recommend it! We also had nice iced coffee with milk, and it actually had ice in it (which I find to be rare in Europe.) Great service, great food, great coffee, and complimentary wifi!

    Nela S.

Love the French atmosphere of this place. Ethernet you come here for breakfast, lunch or afternoon drink or coffee, this brasserie is always relaxed and while sitting on the terrace in summer, watching the people passing around, you can enjoy the relax maybe even better. Try their croissants as well as eggs!

There is plenty of seating and all the pastries are displayed beautifully. The waitress allowed me to sit outside and provided me with some menus. The dinner menu had plenty of drink options and a couple food options. I decided to opt for a cold brew coffee and the burrata with a roasted bell pepper and nut spread. The food came out after about 7 minutes. The bread looked beautiful while maintaining a soft inside and crisp outside. The spread with burrata was also a pleasant sight with glowing piece of cheese contrasted by autumn colors including the pomegranate, balsamic caviar, and pepper spread. The food tasted delicious with the creamy burrata contrasted by the sweet and smoky pepper spread. Such a pleasant cafe located in Prague 7. At the time of writing this, there was some construction being done outside so seating inside may be your best bet. Nonetheless, the atmosphere and food was incredible here which fostered one of the better experiences I've had at a cafe in Prague.

That said, we had a gorgeous yet really disappointing pancake order here that just wasn't acceptable at all. The pancakes were thick, premade and tasted more like crumpets topped with fruit than pancakes, but what was inexcusable was that the pancakes themselves came out cold and hard. How does that even happen? On the other side of things, the expresso drinks were adequate, the egg dishes were enjoyable, the orange juice was fresh squeezed and the brown bread and butter that comes out (complementary) with breakfast is wonderful. If you do opt to come here, head to egg dishes, their bread and expresso, and away from their not good pancakes.) (Wish they would discontinue or replace the pancakes here. These hard, heavy, cold pancakes bring their morning meal average down a level, considering the other dishes here are a-okay.)
