    A garden restaurant

This is the restaurant where you will feel like at home, or even better, more romantic and more celebratory. So small, so predictable, but nevertheless - I keep coming and coming for various occasions. For private dinners, for business lunches, for reunions, for farewell parties. I am always very pleased with everything: with the atmosphere, service, food and wine ... If you are coming in the summer time, try the terrace setup. It is nice, the courtyard has its beautiful patina, you will feel that the time would fly by so slowly! For the terrace food, go with the cold cucumber soup, with a delicious salmon, and combine it either with Prosecco, or with a very strong ginger lemonade, bottled in U.K. For a cold romantic evening, dine inside. Start with a fantastic Onion Soup or Tuna Tartar, and continue with their impressive signature dish, the Entrecote Café de Paris, with a secret and super-delicious herb sauce and home-made fries, and a very fresh green salad (meat-fries-salad, all together at 299 Kc). Pair it with a Languedoc-Roussillon Prestige Rose bottle of wine (899 Kc). I bet you would like to prolong such a wonderful experience, so no worries, have a sweet ending The selection of desserts would be my tip. Hmm, can't wait to come next!!!

Tasty food and fast service. Staff was helpful and friendly. It gets crowded, but worth the wait.

French style cafe opposite the French embassy. Stylish and comfortable, quiet in the middle of busy Mala Strana.

The sauce seemed to have been made from a can (1 star off) as the diced tomatoes tasted different than the whole tomatoes that were added to the dish later; the whole tomatoes tasted way better. My husband got the pinsa alla diavola, which was like a spicy pepperoni pizza. It was fine, but reminded me of a pizza at a kids' birthday party (1 star off), maybe only slightly better. I made a reservation a month in advance, but did not know I had to specifically request for tables outside on the river. When we arrived, only a few outdoor tables were taken, but was told the rest were reserved, so we were seated indoors instead. When we finished our dinner, the same few outdoor tables were occupied. I don't know why the restaurant couldn't just stagger the guests for the outdoor tables according to their reservation times.

It was my second visit to Prague so I was taking my time to see more than the "must see things." As I said, I stumbled onto the restaurant because I was taking in the park where artists were painting, people were reading and I pulled out my phone to use the Merlin app to identify birds that were singing. It was totally picturesque. But I wasn't hungry. So I regretfully moved on without eating there. Imagine the elation a few days later when someone in our group booked a dinner reservation for us at the same place I was regretting having missed! With a group of a dozen of us, I think someone ordered everything on the menu. We were all thrilled. We had appetizers , cocktails and entrees -- everything we had was great! The restaurant is family-owned and we were treated to the son being a primary server for our group. Now and then dad was part of the picture too and we enjoyed the added dynamic. Pretty sure the son is on point for Americans as his English was on point. They were great hosts!

It is indeed in a touristy area, but after having walked a few dozen miles in Prague already, on the last night, close proximity and convenience trumps everything else. We made a reservation online and when we arrived we were promptly led to a table in white tablecloth right next to the window in the dining room. For appetizer, we shared a dozen SNAILS - yes, in Prague, even in a French restaurant, they call them snails, not escargots. In fact, Central Europeans had a long tradition of eating snails even before the French made this delicacy famous. The escargots, ok..., snails, were cooked in rich garlic butter mixed with parsley (that's what the green stuff is just in case you are wondering.) They were delicious, and almost as good as those from the streets of Paris. The CHATEAUBRIAND was brought to us on a carving board together with bone marrow, side dishes of vegetables and mashed potatoes, and a sauce boat full of yummy peppery gravy. Our server carved the beef nicely and plated the dishes meticulously at our table side. The beef was melt-in-your-mouth tender and very flavorful. We could easily tell this was top quality filet mignon and nothing less than the best cut. For the side dishes, I particularly liked the mashed potatoes which tasted like they were made with fresh and naturally creamy potatoes. The peppercorn sauce was rich but not overwhelming, subtly complementing the natural flavor of the steak. Service was 5-star throughout our meal. It began with a complimentary "water melon with bacon" palate cleanser, and ended with complimentary house-made chocolate at the conclusion of our meal. Service was attentive, friendly, prompt but not rushed, and literally white-glove throughout the night. You want me to give you a reason for visiting Brasserie La Gare, or Prague in general? This meal, including two large beers and two glasses of reasonably good wine, cost less than CZK 2,000 which is about US$90. Wanna go?

At first we were thrilled with our server's recommendations and excellent attention, as well as with the cocktails, food, and gorgeous ambiance. The problem occurred toward the end of the evening. Our server cleared our dishes and asked if we were interested in dessert. We said we would be happy to consider the choices. He left us and got busy with another party, which we understood, so waited for about 20 minutes. One of his colleagues passed by and we mentioned that we were waiting. We saw her tell our server, who still did not make time to check in with us. After waiting even longer, one member of our party--originally from England, which becomes important later--got up, found the server, and asked if we could get the dessert menu. Finally he came to our table. He did not apologize for the wait (all he needed to say was that he had gotten swamped, and we would have been fine with that small explanation). Instead, he said, "The hardest part is waiting," mentioned there is no actual dessert menu, then left and came back with a board showing us some of the desserts, explaining what they were. He was obviously irritated with us and so we opted to end the evening and asked for the check. He brought it quickly and pointedly explained that we could tip him. We were uninterested in rewarding his rudeness and did not tip him. Then he insultingly said to our English friend, who was paying: "I didn't think you had an American accent." This was so unprofessional. We go out of our way to be gracious when we travel, not wanting to be seen as "ugly Americans." We tip almost everyone and generously. Your server's increasing rudeness and growing irritation with us was completely uncalled for, and we are so disappointed to have this memory of an otherwise wonderful few days in your beautiful city.

We started w an Amuse bouche of a silky smooth mousse of cucumber and mint in the most elegant shot glass shaped like a globe. Our appetizers were a beef cheek tortellini in an amazing sauce. The other app was scallops on a sea of foam and island of sugar snap peas. Mains continued to amaze w veal and sides done perfectly. Dover sole was rolled and covered in lentils and creamy potato on the bottom. Between main and dessert we had a sorbet In The requisite liquid nitrogen. Desserts were impressive w a deconstructed chocolate eclair - homemade puff pastry need I say more - and a Valrhona chocolate cake w popcorn and a dollop of ice cream. Service is as it should be - helpful, understated, informed and well timed. I can not stand to be condescended to for another meal by waitstaff who feel I should be grateful for their time. If you were planning to visit that spot on your visit, you could pair it with a lunch here. Not too close to Old Town, which was also nice. Classy and polished - the way to describe the decor, the staff and the overall vibe. Tasting menu - definitely go for it. We were able to make some simple substitutions without any issues, which I did appreciate as I chose two apps and no dessert. All the dishes were incredibly light and flavorful, as you might expect. Definitely a pricey lunch, but absolutely worth it - would definitely recommend and would return.

For dinner they offer a mix of traditional and modern Czech cuisine, as well as Italian and French inspired options. The rabbit was outstanding. Oh and they have delicious fresh pasta. Overall, it's a very nice place to meet up with friends for brunch/coffee/crepes and a romantic place for dinner. I like that they take your coats to hang up in the wardrobe.
