One of my all-time favorite sandwiches is from La Schiacciata, which is the sandwich shop component of the La Fettunta restaurant. As I scoured for my favorite sandwich in Florence during my study abroad, I usually ordered turkey or pork until someone recommended sausage at La Schiacciata. It was mind-blowing. The "L'Ignorante" came with sausage, stracchino cheese, truffle sauce, mushroom sauce, onions, and peppers. I'm not a huge fan of sausage but I can't see myself getting a different meat here because it's grilled to perfection and so flavorful and juicy. Each component of the sandwich came together so beautifully, especially the sauces.
Go here. If you want to try a perfectly cooked Florentine steak, pillows of gnocchi perfectly cooked and the best mushroom tagliatelle. Wow, service was quick and fun. The space is crowded, but cute and homey. This is where to eat in Florence. We came here two nights in a row. It's good to know that they take reservations, and I highly recommend them. We had to come right at opening to ensure we got a seat without one.
We decided to get a panino from La Fettunta next door to the famous All'Antico Vinaio. Got antivegano (porchetta, scamorza cheese, mushroom sauce, grilled veggies) with salsa picante. My boyfriend said that it was the best food he had on the trip, and he doesn't even like bread! The inside was not pretty but it was very flavorful. Do yourself a favor, ignore the hype of All'Antico Vinaio and try this.
This restaurant is next to the most popular and busiest sandwich shop in Florence. Although the group wasn't too hungry, I fell in love with Florentine steak and I saw it on the menu so I had to give it a try. The steak we ordered was about 1.5 kg and I ate all almost all of it myself because everyone else was so full. The steak was very rare but very good Florentine steak is known to be rare so be prepared if that's what you like. Our server was very attentive and got us everything that we needed quickly. The location is very central to many things in Florence and we were Tucktaway in the corner and able to enjoy each other's company. It's a very unique restaurant, and definitely very Italian. We really enjoyed our time here.
Hands down, this was one of our best meals in Florence! We came by La Fettunta by way of a recommendation from our driver. We were a traveling group of 9, so getting seats was never easy. This place accommodated us and helped us order everything. We ordered a variety of dishes to pass around the table and everything was delicious. Our waiter was truly awesome, and constantly checked in. The place was PACKED. The atmosphere was noisy with lots of laughter. I absolutely recommend this place. It's one our whole group remembers fondly.
If you're in Florence this is the place to eat, it is the real deal Italian dinner. The portions are huge and the service is wonderful. I wish you could smell pictures.
While walking around trying to find the best paninis, we stumbled upon this place, and of course it is right next to the legendary/famous All Antico. This line is much shorter, although not THAT much shorter. The wait was a good 30 minutes to get your order in, and another 20 minutes or so to get the food. The paninis are relatively cheap, only going for about 5-7 euros for sandwich, and the best part is that the portion sizes are huge! You will definitely get full! The paninis were not mindblowingly awesome. The bread was a little on the heavy/chewy side. As if, the bread was not as fresh, kind of chewy. The filling was very fresh, especially with the abundant amount of vegetables, but on certain bites, it was kind of cold and hot (some ingredients were warm/hot, and some were cold). The inconsistent temperatures of the sandwich made it overall alright. We were glad we tried paninis, especially in Florence.

It is located in the middle of downtown Florence with dozens of other competing restaurants and sandwich houses. There are no exclusive clauses here. With so much tourist traffics and hungry mouths, everyone gets to eat and the restaurant owners are making money hand over fist. Some lines are 1-3 hours wait so customer service is not their forte. You just feel lucky that your line moves fast, order a load of food, and wait patiently until they call your name. Our carryout bag of 4 sandwiches was at least 10 pounds and each cost around 7 euros (kind of makes you want to move here). Make sure that you order the "Compagno Di Merende". It comes with an abundance of Porchetta, Pecorino cheese, arugula, caramelized onions, and an amazing spicy red pepper sauce. I might be eating these Italian sandwiches all week long!

You can get some pretty amazing sandwiches in the US, but after my trip to Italy- I'll make my case for why the panini of this Tuscan city rules them all. In the heart of Tuscany, amidst the narrow, cobbled streets busy with pedestrians, cyclists are the world's greatest sandwiches. Nowhere is the culture of cured meat and cheese making as spirited than it is in the hills in and around Florence. The centuries-old culture and traditions of cheese- and meat-making here produce some of the finest food creations in the world, and they happen to be quintessential sandwich ingredients. Italian panini are made from a low quantity of high quality ingredients, each prepared in a way respectful to how they should actually taste. The bread they use is called- Schiacciata, it's similar to focaccia but there's key differences. Both breads are Italian flatbreads, but the Schiacciata is more thin and chewy while the focaccia is spongy and tall. Schiacciata is a kind of bread traditionally made in the regions of Tuscany and Umbria, in central Italy and Focaccia is native to Genoa. I ordered the Porchetta sandwich or from the menu "Compagno Di Merende". It was delightful... just wonderful ingredients on delicious Schiacciata bread. The generous amount of porchetta was juicy, moist, and tasted amazing. There was also pecorino cheese, arugula, caramelized onions, and a delicious spicy red pepper sauce. The size of this thing was huge and it was only 6 euro! It's worth noting that this place gets extremely busy as does the more famous shop close by, but this line was a little smaller and I'd definitely recommend coming here instead.

My husband and I stopped in here for lunch. Gino was awesome. Prices were fair. I absolutely loved it the bruschetta! We also ordered a caprese salad. It was super fresh -- very large tomatoes and they were delicious. We also shared an ordered of the pepper meat dish and it was like a goulash with peppercorns and it was super flavorful. The bread was good! The wine was good! All and all a good expereience. Good location, clean bathrooms.

This is handsdown the best sandwich I have ever had in my life. We almost didn't go in because they were not as busy as the one a few doors down that had a line around the corner. But luckily there was a customer that overheard us talking from Texas and told us that this was highly recommended by their tour guide. So we decided to go in, we had a little bit of a language barrier and we thought we ordered one sandwich to share but we ended up ordering two different sandwiches and I'm glad we did because they were both incredible. They literally have two tables at the very back of the restaurant by this centuries old brick wall. what are the tables was literally getting up as we were checking out so we were able to go back there and sit. I highly recommend this place instead of waiting for the other place around the corner. read more
We really enjoyed our dinner at La Fettunta! I had seen it on a couple of recommendations lists, but after our B&B host suggested it, we walked over and easily got a table when they opened for dinner (because no one eats as early as we do apparently). The servers are so nice and funny here. We really enjoyed our server particularly, but everyone was kind. I had gone back and forth all day about whether I wanted to try the Florentine steak, but I'm glad that we did. It was gorgeously cooked and well seasoned. The sides of potatoes and spinach were also stellar - I eat a lot of potatoes and those were at the top of my list. Highly recommend, and get the steak. It's cheaper here than other places also! read more

40. Le Fettunta Affordable florentine steak for good quality! Food/Drink: We got the 1 kg florentine steak for two to share along with two bottles of house wine. The steak itself was cooked in the traditional way (although they did offer to cook it medium rare for those who are uncomfortable with eating raw meat) and was humongous, more than enough for 2 to share. The order of steak also came with a basket of bread. I don't know much about florentine steaks but this one was juicy, succulent, and delicately flavored with simply salt and pepper. Price: The way they price your order is by how much your steak weighs starting with 35 euros per kilo. Our whole meal including the wine ended somewhere around 50 euros which is on the cheaper side when pursuing florentine steak. Atmosphere: It's a very comfortable restaurant with air conditioning and a friendly wait staff well versed in english. It's also super casual so no need to dress up and there's even a back room for larger groups. Tips: If you can bear it, try to eat the florentine steak in the traditional way!! read more

My review is for the paninis only! Not sure how the sit down part of the restaurant is. Also, note that you can only get paninis at the takeout counter side! I don't think they serve it in their sit down restaurant side. Compared to the famous All Antico nearby, the line is MUCH shorter, although it will still sometimes be a good 10 people deep. It does move quickly though! Pros of this place: Paninis are relatively cheap (around 5-7 euro each) and the portion size is huge! They have quite a variety to choose from as well, but not all options are translated in English so it took me a while to order. The people making the sandwiches are also incredibly efficient, so you really don't have to wait long. Cons: The panini is just too heavy/oily. I think they have some kind of garlic aioli that they put on each of their paninis, and they REALLY pack it on, to the point where it's almost overwhelming and nauseating. Those kinds of creamy flavors aren't really my jam, but if you can stomach it then I'm sure this place will hit the spot. Ordering as a tourist is also a little difficult; I tried to add the spicy sauce onto my panini but I think it got lost in translation. Probably would skip, but if you do end up going bring a friend b/c the paninis are huge. read more

Delightful cozy restaurant in the historical section of Florence! We ate there 4 times (2 lunches and 2 dinners) during our weeklong visit recently! The food is absolutely delicious, portions large, prices are excellent and service was outstanding! The entire waitstaff was extremely welcoming and efficient. Make sure to have reservations for dinner, as it fills up fast. read more
People always ask me, "Imagine you are on your death bed and you could have one last meal, what would you have?" I always say, "The Florentine steak from La Fettunta." Let's just say, I dream of this steak (literally)! It's that good! It's packed with flavors and spices. Plus it is cooked rare, my favorite. The steak could easily fill three or four people (or one person - if you're really hungry). If you happen to be in Florence at La Fettunta... please get the steak! It's definitely worth the 35 - 40 euros. Also, there lasagna is very good. read more

This place absolutely fabulous. From the service to the food...the one and only place that actually treated us Americans kindly. Traditional Tuscan food was served. They open at 6pm on Sundays and the place filled up fast so I'd arrive at opening. Fresh HOMEMADE pasta was like BUTTER. So tender and delicious. The Lasagna was Phenomenal. The steak platter flavorful and oh so yummy. Spicy Beef was rich with flavor. read more

We came here after visiting the Accademia to see the David. It's near to gelatoria. Pros: - nice ambiance not too crowded - great service. We told them we had to be somewhere in an hour and they brought out food right away - food is tasty and great value Cons: - water is not free but doesn't seem water is free in other Italian restaurants either We had great experience and would return if ever back in Firenze! read more
We had some really delicious pasta at La Fettunta but immediately kicked ourselves afterwards for not ordering the Florentine steak. We saw steak after juicy steak make their way to tables which sadly just weren't ours. So, on our last night in Florence, steak at la Fettunta was practically a necessity. I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest of steak-eaters, not even the biggest of meat-eaters at that but, man, this is STEAK. For 30 euros, you get a kilo of steak. You cannot order any less and, believe me, you will not conquer this sheer amount of meat alone. They weigh the steak and charge you for the weight; simple as that. So, our steak was quite a bit bigger than a kilo. They don't ask you how you'd like it cooked because this is Italy, goddammit, and you'll have it pink and bloody. So, this HUGE big hunk of steak is presented before us along with some fried potatoes and polenta, and it's all incredible. A truly delicious feast of food. SO, SO good. Looking back, this was probably the most memorable of all the restaurants I visited in Florence, and I really do recommend if you're in the city. read more
This place is easy to overlook as it's next door to the sandwich king of Florence, but we really couldn't find a fault with this meal. Aubs and I both got house specials, I got the cannelloni and she got the ravioli. The cannelloni came submerged in vodka sauce, covered in mozzerrela with a sprinkle of ground sausage (see picture). The ricotta + mozerella + pasta + sauce + sausage combination was great. The ravioli dish was very similar but with less sauce and more Parmesan cheese. House red wine went great with everything. This place is small and half of the area is taken up by their open kitchen. read more

La Fettunta provides a very down home dinner experience. It's like you're having dinner with family. There are other options for an entree but have the bistecca Florentina. Every steak place has it in the city but theirs is delicious and moderately priced. Also, don't skip the Fettunta. It's in the name people! read more

So walking on the street we had seen a sand which shop with lines around the block and wanted to try it ourselves for dinner. Unfortunately it was closed so we came here, as it was just a few doors up and still open at 9:15pm. My dining companion got the local speciality, roast pork on focaccia and that base was €5 - he added grilled vegetables (zucchini plus bell peppers) for an extra buck and loved the combination. But this thing was massive and for next time, either will share or only worth getting if massively hungry. I got a special of the day - home made Tagliatelle with truffle sausage and pancetta in a béchamel sauce. Gosh this was automatic and really beautifully creamy, albeit a bit too salty for me. Still I scrapped up every last bite although it was such a huge helping - again, I would suggest sharing. Oh, btw the table next to us got gnocchi and that looked super great too! I would def go back here to eat - lovely and quick service, menus in English and really great food - makes this place a winner in my book! read more

Yummy! The place across the street with rave reviews had a huge line so we popped in here instead. Everything we ordered was delicious! Freshly roasted chicken & the porchetta sandwich were so good! The juicy salty porchetta was served hot on herbed focaccia. Clean restroom. Charming interior. Family friendly, casual. Nice staff who spoke English. Menu a bit limited and funky but everything we got was great! read more
Affordable and great Florentine steak. Other restaurants would charge up to $85 per kilo on Florentine steak but after seeing this place on Yelp and saw plenty of great reviews, we decided to try it. We split a salad and Florentine steak and like many Yelpers, we were not disappointed! We had to share the steak because it was a lot of meat. In fact, we opted not to have any appetizers since you can only get the steak by the kilo; no half or quarter order. read more

We were looking for a place visited by the locals, that was reasonably priced, and tasted good! This place exceeded all expectations. We got a turkey panini with melted provolone cheese, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, arugula, spicy sauce and arugula mayo. My husband said it was the best panini he had in his life....for only 6 Euro! The service was also excellent, they take care in making your sandwich and it shows. There is a couple tables in the back of you want to eat in, but most people take it to go. Highly recommend! Will stop by tomorrow one last time before we head to Rome tomorrow. read more
