I've first noticed Farfalla very recently when we went on a 41 mile walk from San Jose to Jack London Square in Oakland. I sat across from it while we enjoyed a short break at a Starbucks across and wondered about their creations. They all looked beautiful from the outside. Today I walked in and tried one of their offerings. The Matcha with Red Beans was my first choice. I did not fail here. It was loaded with red beans and just simply divine and most of all its fresh. I also noticed their products are not oily. ie: I noticed less oil on my hands when I handled my food, less oil residue in the bag as well. The macarons are looking too tempting but I'm saving them for maybe my next jaunt here. While paying; the savvy cashier asked if I wanted to try their milk with green tea. I was hooked. The cashier was thoughtful enough to ask about the level of sweetness. I was very happy with mine just the way they make it. This location is next to Starbucks which is next to Lucky's Supermarket. Being the only bakery/dessert/tea place here I'm hoping this place survives for years. It's totally different from the yogurt next door. Cute lovely presentation of their desserts and lastly they taste good. Adam bought a few more than I did and fell in love with them as well. He can tell you about probably about four different ones that he tried. If I can make a suggestion, a few tables for customers to eat in would be nice. A sleepy albeit useful little plaza. I like their food but their way of doing business is not flexible and stubborn. They sell the buns in a bag of six in one favor. I cannot finish one big bag and they used to allow me to buy any quantity but with a higher individual price. That is good as I can pick my favor (e.g. one red bean bun, one sesame bun, one pork bun) and buy a smaller bag. However, they changed their policy and their sales refused to sell buns less than six to me. She requested me to buy at least 3 in one favor and the minimum is to buy six. I think that is not reasonable. If they can sell 3 to me, then why I can't buy one? I don't mind to buy a higher price but don't force me to eat at least 3 buns in one favor. I will not return to this store again and will not recommend people to go there unless they change their buying policy. read more

My husband and I ordered a wedding cake from La Farfalla. It was everything I ever dreamed of for a wedding cake. The staff was very helpful when we were planning the design of the cake. They can make each tier a different flavor, and they can custom decorate the cake. They can also deliver your cake to the venue for a reasonable fee. Ours was a five tier cake with different flavors including fruit mousse, black forest, and vanilla with cream and fruit. To quote several of the guests, "That was by far the best wedding cake I have ever tasted." The baker even personally set fresh flowers on the cake for us! I wasn't able to see the result before the dinner reception, but when I saw it, I was delighted by how graceful and elegant this cake with fresh flowers was. I saw they had a Matcha Coconut here so I got my butt up and came here for that but when I get here, they no longer had it. Thank goodness for Yelp and the pictures people post here because my second choice was available which was the Matcha Crema. Now, I always feel bad about writing negative reviews, but it was just OK. The drink had pudding and red beans in it but after having the first sip, it was just blah to me. It almost tasted watered down which is a little surprising considering it contains red beans and pudding. It seems like this place has gone through several ownerships or maybe one owner and their name kept changing? I bring this up because this is their third name in probably a year. I think I need to give this place another chance because some of the baked goods look delicious like their coconut pastry and their chocolate pound cake. La Farfalla serves up really good cakes, pastries, and macarons which are all Asian influenced. It is located in strip mall which is devoid of Asian style bakeries so it is definitely a good option for the area. I ordered a 8" mango cake which was $24. It had actual mango pieces in it and was really light and delicious. If you use the Yelp Check-In you can get a free macaron and the passion fruit one I got was really good. I also grabbed some pastries to go and they were all good. My biggest piece of advice is to order in advance. It will take around 40 minutes for them to make your cake if you order on the spot. Absolutely love their baked treats here. Stopped by to pick up some pastries for a friends bday. Come early! As a lot of stuff was out by the time I got there after 4pm. Blueberry danish is so yum. Like a scone but a little more moist. Croissants are so light and airy and just slightly sweet. So delicate I loved it. All their pastries are baked with less butter and fat, I can tell. Its awesome! I had some sort of expectation for La Farfalla Bakery due to its positive reviews/ratings, and this bakery definitely surpassed it! INTERIOR/STYLE: Super cute, super clean, and super organized.. It's a small space unfortunately, so the selection is limited. Despite that, I had no problems finding a few things to try. Each type of pastry is clearly labeled and individual plates are already covered for you to use. In the same fashion as a bakery such as ShengKee and 85C, you grab a plate, a tong, and then browse around. Then you bring your plate to the cash register and they will bag your purchase for you. SELECTION: Today's selection was really good. There's a mix & match cookies section that's ~$4 per 1/4 lb of cookies. Then there are some pastries that are sweet, some savory. Since I already got a box of cookies to satisfy my sweet tooth, I went for the savory pastries. There's also a separate section of mini macarons priced @ $1.85 each. Then there's a refrigerated section for mini cakes and special occasion cakes. Look up, and you'll see a simple menu for your boba fix. MY PICKS: - Takoyaki pastry: Don't be fooled! This is NOT made of octopus. It's actually a pastry filled with pork sung (dried pork) and garnished with takoyaki-styled toppings. Very tasty, and would definitely buy again. - Butter Cream pastry: A pastry filled with butter cream, was fluffy and sweet, with a hint of saltiness. - Ham & Veggies: Not really "veggies," more like ham and corn.. Though I supposed corn is a type of vegetable. This is a good-sized pastry topped with chopped ham and generously covered with corn and some sort of mayonnaise dressing. Slightly savory, not super salty. Yum! - Assorted cookies ranging from the cookies with jam centers, Russian tea, chocolate walnut, etc: I loved the cookies here, they are not too sweet and most are bite sized. Good for sweet cravings without the impending sugar crash. They are priced per 1/4 lb and you can mix + match. - Chocolate croissant: Small compared to croissants I'm used to. While this was pretty good, it was my least favorite out of everything. Compared to Starbucks chocolate croissant, which is toasted when you order, this just can't quite compare. Also gone within a couple bites, this wasn't very satisfying. - Macarons: These are smaller than average macarons, but also slightly cheaper. There is a check-in offer for a free macaron that I used. The one I tried was Jasmine Green tea, and it was yummy. Not too sweet, but didn't really taste much of tea flavor. Delicious to indulge in, regardless! - Sea Salt green tea: Hm... Where was the sea salt... The tea was kind of watered down, but overall it wasn't bad. I wasn't asked about sweetness level, but it was at a tolerable level of sweetness so I didn't have to. There was no extra layer of sea salt, and it looks like it was mixed in for you... Probably try a different drink next time. Final thoughts: Quality pastries/dessert, no crowd, comparable to bigger bakeries, if not better. Hopefully this place stays open (pretty empty in terms of patrons...) because I will definitely will be back.. I live really close, so it'll be very convenient to grab a pastry on-the-go! read more

Ordered a custom birthday cake with only two days notice. I showed a picture to the chef of exactly what I wanted and he made it happen. The cake tasted pretty good to boot too, it had a lot more texture and flavor variance going for it than your average birthday cake. Only reason this isn't a five star review is because it was $92 for a 25 person cake which I found to be just a tad steep. We came in during the weekend and bought everything they had. Macarons, Cream horns, Coconut bun and roll cakes. The macarons were a good quick fix and had a nice aftertaste. Everything else had the same opportunity, their cream. They used some sort of cream that was high in sugar and basically like thick butter cream that does not need refrigeration. If you are expecting cream from your typical Asian bakery, you will not get it here. Nice folks but after spending $20 on goods and not being able to finish due to the cream, we had to pass. This place is great! My family and I have always loved their mousse cakes, guava and passion fruit are our favorites. The cakes are very flavorful and are not overly sweet. Since they've reopened and added milk teas it is now my favorite place to get boba. I always get their house milk tea which is very cheap ($3.25). It has enormous amounts of toppings included. Today I asked for less sweet and he gave me a sample of my drink before he poured it out to make sure I was OK with the sweetness. Amazing service! The new pastries that I have tried are just ok. The toppings are very good and fresh but their bread isn't the best around. Then again this place is so close to my house that I would rather go here than drive 20 minutes to 85°. After a bike ride around Fremont I needed some sugar rush and found La Farfalla. Since it was in my to try list for a while and was on the way home, decided to stop and check it out. Very cute inside, all white like the kitchens in the fairy tales with lots of cute drawers, Eiffel tower decorating the counter and a nice girl attending a customer...However there was a lack of pastries and mostly they were serving the drinks (I did not see any coffee drinks on the menu, so another minus for me). I wanted so much to try their pastries but they did not have many left (maybe is because was a Sunday kind of late) and the ones they had looked sad and hard. read more

I had high hopes coming here given all the stars from yelpers. However, I am fairly disappointed. Most of the things I got fell very short on flavor. Here's what I got: Takoyaki - pastry filled with pork sung (dried shredded pork) topped with takoyaki sauce and shaved bonito flakes. This was very good. I'd get this one again. This is probably the only thing I got that has flavor. Almond Pastry - basically a plain non sweet puff pastry sprinkled with sliced toasted almonds and some sugar. Not much flavor there and uninspired. I was expecting some almond paste filling, even just a tiny bit. Custard Cup - again super bland. The burnt sugar on the bottom was not able to pull this one through. The packaging was super cute. But taste very cheap and bland...did I say bland already? Green Tea Mousse Cake - another tasteless piece. Looks very nice. I did not taste the green tea or any matcha flavor in case the green tea is the matcha variant. I will not get this again. Things I order but had not tried yet: Guava Mousse Cake - I have high hopes here Chocolate pastry - bigger and hoping it has better taste than anyone I had sampled so far. Chocolate croissant - small compared to what I'm used to getting. I will wait for my boys to tell me if it's decent or not. Overall, it's a very cute business. Very friendly staff. Ordered tiramisu and i would just say ok. Good however they did not have the dipped lady fingers which is signature to a good tiramisu. Instead they had a cake like layer sandwiched in between the cream which is not traditional at all. The prices on their cakes are not too shabby and they seem to bake the items fresh. Came in at 7am in the morning to pick up my cake and i saw their bins steaming from the hot bread they were loading in. Was heading into Fremont via Mission Blvd, found this bakery along the way. Good concept, kind of like Paris Baguette or 85 degree, but the selection was very bare. I don't know if they had run out of everything by noon on a Saturday. But did grab a bear claw, which was really good. Great balance of strudel mix to pastry, buttery, not to sweet, etc. But wish I could have tried some of the other items they had. I will be coming back to see if they do have the selection. Oh!
