On Sunday, we took a nice drive to Nampa (formerly in Caldwell) to try La Esperanza. We got there just in time for brunch, got in line to make our order.  My husband had birria beef sopas while I opted for the carne asada burrito.  We were not disappointed; the sopas was filled with beef and veggies.  My burrito included rice, beans, and carne served dry. The portions are large, fresh tasting and service was excellent. We were so happy to see them open on a Sunday.  The produce was fresh and they had plenty of fresh meats for the grill (beef, chicken).  Many customers headed for the pan dulce sweet breads, and they had quite a selection. We will make many visits to this authentic, unpretentious mexican grocery/bakery and so glad they moved to Nampa.

I'm sharing this post from my Facebook group Southern Idaho Foodies. Enjoy! La Esperanza Bakery If you're looking for great tamales, my favorites are at La Esperanza Bakery in Caldwell. I've eaten a lot of tamales over the years and I've had some excellent ones. These are by far the best I have ever had. They are also far superior to the James Beard award winning Tamales I had at Los Hernandez Tamales in Union Gap, Washington. The tamales are kept back in the kitchen, so you have to ask for them. Jalapeño & Cheese and Red Chile Pork tamales are available daily, until they run out. On Sundays, they make a small number of Green Chile Chicken tamales. I have never been there in time to try those, but I hear they're good. The Red Chile Pork tamales have big chunks of well-seasoned pork. Those are my favorites. I also really like the Jalapeño & Cheese. When you heat them up, they have oozing cheese in the middle and a nice amount of heat, but not they are not overly spicy. When I visited the store yesterday, I bought 12 tamales, 6 of each flavor. TJ bought the remaining 7 tamales. These tamales are huge! To give you a sense of scale, these tamales are in a dinner bowl that is almost 10 inches wide. One tamale with rice and beans or a salad will make a meal for most. They freeze well. They cost $2.50 each or $15 for six. We were there around 5:30 PM last night. As always, they were doing a swift business, which made it difficult to get good photos without being intrusive. Although some of the shelves were empty, they were constantly bringing out new trays of freshly baked goods. In addition to having the best tamales, La Esperanza Bakery is the best Mexican bakery in the Treasure Valley. quite possibly the state. Location: 5216 Cleveland Blvd., Suite C Hours: Open daily from 7 AM to 10 PM Highly Recommended!!! -- at La Esperanza Bakery.

I love this place! When the food counter is open, I have to get myself a carnitas burrito. But either way, always stop at the pastry case!

When I contacted the owner asking how this cake could turn colors she told me she was sorry, she had no idea why it would change colors, I don't offer refunds but I can give you $30 off your next order. I ordered a funfettie and Mable cake and they both have overwhelming flavor of cinnamon. I did not ask for any cinnamon. It was just the cakes and buttercream frosting. This cake was suppose to be used for Remis smash cake photo shoot and that obviously didn't happen. Tucked away in a strip mall on Caldwell boulevard is Suarez Bakery…read more There's not much from the outside that tells you about the delicious homemade Mexican pan inside. Take a leap of faith and head inside. The bakery is small but the cabinets on the right side are filled with all the usual delicious and sweet treats that you find at most Mexican bakeries. Head up to the front and grab a tray and a pair of tongs and get to work selecting Conchas, Panques, Niño Envueltos, Elote Finos, Puerquitos, Empandas, and more Right now they are taking orders for Pan de Roscas, or Three King's Bread. These breads are very traditional and every year on January 6th, hispanics and Mexicans alike hold gatherings with family and friends to partake in the celebration of Día de los Reyes Day by cutting a slice of the rosca. A small plastic figurine is placed inside the Rosca bread prior to cutting, this figurine represents baby Jesus. It is considered to be good luck if the figurine is in the slice you receive. The person who finds the figurine of Jesus is designated to throw a fiesta and provide tamales on Día de la Candelaria which falls on February 2nd. I'm not sure who is going to get the figurine but I do know I'll be back to Suarez Bakery for more tasty treats for my family.

You're greeted by the bakery case featuring grossly oversized goods when you first walk through the door. The building is clean, cute and cafeteria style. We had a table of three. We were first served with the chips and salsa. The chips were warm and crunchy -- a little salty for my taste, but I don't eat a lot of salt - and the salsa was fantastic. I had the beef Mama Taco, which is plate sized and big enough for two. The ingredients were fresh and very well seasoned. Guest two had the special of the day, a beef, a chicken and a cheese enchilada served with rice and beans. They were only able to finish two of the enchiladas. Hopefully I'm giving you an idea of the portion sizes. I thought the beans were a little thin, but tasty, and the rice was moist. Guest three had the carne asada. It also came with the rice and beans, choice of corn or flour tortilla, and a roasted jalapeno. That was the only guest able to finish the meal, but was miserably full. The three of us tried to finish one of their cream cheese cinnamon rolls. We couldn't do it. They are monsters. We took home a cinnamon roll and some Bavarian cream horns. They were both absolutely fantastic. The cinnamon roll was loaded with cream cheese frosting, very soft, and easily the size of 4 of the ones I make at home. The prices are perfect. I don't recall a plate over $10.00 and the most expensive bakery item is $3.00. It's a little off the beaten path, but it's one of those undiscovered gems that will easily become your favorite.
