Been living in the Oxnard/Ventura area for 5 years now and I've never been here. Well this morning was the first time I'd ever been here, recommended by a friend of mine. He had recommended a breakfast burrito, So that's what I ordered: egg, sausage, hashbrowns, cilantro, hot and mild sauce. We sat for a short time for our food (2-3 minutes) to receive it steaming hot with everything cooked for it just then. It took me about 2 minutes to eat this thing. No, it wasn't small, it was gargantuan. The biggest 5$ breakfast burrito I've ever eaten. It was the fact that it's deliciousness outweighed the mass (figuratively speaking) that allowed me to eat this thing in record time. It was amazing. The food was made in a timely fashion, the ladies that worked there were so sweet and nice and the food was spectacular. Recommend this place to anyone and everyone that enjoys good food. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY! "Nothing Especial" I'm not happy I spent $10 for a cafeteria scoop of cold chorizo egg burrito and a coffee! The burrito was gross! The coffee was like water! Nothing is fresh here! I've been hitting this place for some 20 years after a surf at the strand, or if just passing through the nard. it's kinda like a mexican buffet and bakery. i get a large coffee and load in the half&half, then check out what is fresh behind the glass of the hot food case. just tell the girls what you want and they'll put it onto your plate. great B-fast burritos and Chili Relleno burritos, super delicious handmade tamales(chicken, beef ,pork and sweet), and of course the dozens of different kinds of sweet breads(pan dulce). also breakfast to order! oh man and the Carnitas is so good!.. i love it! go now! read more

But they also serve lunch food like burritos. My personal favorite has always been the spicy beef and potato burrito. It may not be a traditional choice but it kicks butt, literally. Be forewarned, spicy means mexican spicy. The burrito was $5.25 for a typical hole-in-the-wall double fisted burrito. It was also $5.25 10+ years ago, what the hell? They used to use a lot of lard in their cooking in the past but now it seems lighter than I remember. But don't go 'cause its healthy 'cause its not, go because its good and cheap. read more

We happened in here last weekend because we were on the way to Malibu and starving. I know have have said this before but these are the best chili rellenos I have ever had, this time really .La comida seta deliciosa The food is delicious, there is no better way to say it. This place is not fancy but, YUM. We both had the relleno and a chile cheese tamale which was surprisingly spicy. The food came out fast and I think the bill was about 14 bucks, that was with a coffee and a juice. The service was almost overly cordial. these people are nice! who knew? read more

I have yet to have anything bad here! Breakfast burritos are a staple, the ingredients are fresh and cooked perfectly. The people are so nice too! The pancakes are soft and crisp around the edges. The carne asada is so delicious, and the pico de gallo was so fresh. The outside is unassuming and almost hard to see. I ordered the breakfast burrito, with 2 eggs, sausage, bacon, cilantro, onion, hash browns and hot sauce. The whole burrito was total under seasoned. The eggs weren't seasoned the hash browns were super unseasoned and even the onion and cilantro was dull. Also the hot sauce was so bland, that I used Valentina hot sauce instead. Also what was weird is that there was whole sausages in my burrito, they weren't chopped up at all. I'm so used to tacos la Costa and corralles, the la especial was beyond a let down. read more

La Especial is my favorite spot for breakfast but they have so much more than breakfast. All their food is authentic and all the effort put into making their food really comes through in taste. The huevos rancheros and their breakfast burritos are the best I have ever had. The tamales are amazing because of the masa that they make. Multiple meat options for tacos, tortas, and burritos. (Other than the fact that there was NO fresh baked bread or pan dulce which was a huge disappointment.) The burritos were delectable as usual & deserve a 5 star, but the decor, not so much. The place has not changed at all in that area. At the very least, removing the clutter & duct tape off the walls, updating their menu boards & a simple coat of paint is sorely needed. Wouldn't cost barely a thing & would do wonders for the aesthetic of the place. Again, the food is consistently delicious which is probably their saving grace. What a gem! Can't believe we've lived in the neighborhood nine months and just got around to stopping in, but I am so happy we did. Great selection of breakfast burritos and sandwiches to choose from. We had family visiting and ordered a bunch of different ones to take home and share. Every single one was generously portioned and absolutely delicious, truly. And the prices are great, we ordered six different items for about $35. My boyfriend and i came in today for breakfast. Overall experience was great. He ordered the breakfast combo (2 big pancakes, 2 sausages, 2 bacon pieces, 2 eggs, and hash browns) he was happy with his food, pancakes were good because of course i had to try. I ordered huevos rancheros in green sauce (1 sausage, 1 piece of bacon, beans, rice, and hash brows) the green sauce was a little underwhelming but overall the plate was good and great for the price! (Each plate was $7.99) We ate and had beverages for just over $20 which is a deal you can't beat. We came across them on instagram which what compelled us to try. It is not your picture perfect breakfast diner but the people who work there do it with love, and i think that's the most valuable part of a business. It's safe to say we may be returning. read more
