Went to this bakery after all of the positive Yelp reviews. We ordered a pound of assorted cookies, a black and white cookie, and another pastry. The place smelled really good and everything looked really good. I want to try a bunch of the stuff here and settled on cookies and a pastry that other customers seemed to be buying so we went with the flow. The black and white cookie was too dry. The frosting was good but the cookie itself was way too dry. The assorted cookies were good. A few stood out as better than others but they were all generally good, nothing great. The pastry was good, nothing I am running back for. There's plenty of street parking and the women working there were all very helpful and friendly. Excellent selection of authentic Italian cookies and pastries. Some favorites are pignoli cookies, amaretti, biscotti, taralli, and cannoli They even sell cannoli chips with the cream for dipping! My uncle LOVES the apple turnovers ONLY from here so I'm about to call and reserve a few. They are so kind about putting them aside. Sfogliatelle is my very favorite and I could eat 12 of them..(the big ones!) Before the holidays, I buy a large container of canolli filling and canolli shell chips and bring them over for Christmas eve. EVERYONE waits for them. We got my son's 1st birthday party cake from here and were very happy with the cake and service. The cake/butter cream frosting isn't too sweet (which is what I prefer). The baker did a good job of hand drawing designs onto the cake. The only thing we wish was different was the lettering on the cake...seemed a little bit messy and we would have preferred "cleaner" lettering. But the cake tasted delicious either way! read more

You can smell the sweets from outside. Once inside we had a sample of the pumpkin crumb cake, it was delicious! We ordered a the raspberry and chocolate cigars. They were very good. This place is amazing! Over two years ago I moved to Poughkeepsie from Fishkill, and down the road from me I found this gem! I have been patronizing this long-lived establishment for many years. There is a reason why they have been at the same location for several decades- their pastries are simply FAB-U-LOUS!!! On occasion, some of the staff have been luke- warm toward me with their level of friendliness, but on most visits I have found them very amiable and helpful. One thing that I LOVE about LaDeliziosa is that they always have marzipan available, which can be hard to find elsewhere, especially if it's not during the holiday season. Their prices are certainly reasonable, the selection is outrageous and the freshness & tastiness of their pastries and cookies never disappoints. Well, I shouldn't say "never." A couple of times the cream horn shells have been slightly stale, but not enough to lose my business. I really love this Poughkeepsie staple, located in the old Italian section of the city. Times have certainly changed in this area, even in the last 20 years, but LaDeliziosa has not! read more

I haven't even eaten the cannoli yet and my heart was stolen when the lady who waited on me went to the cold case, took the cream out and then squeezed it into the shell. That's the way it should always be done.....the cream should not be put into the shell until the customer buys the cannoli. This keeps the shell *crisp* and *crunchy*. Almost no one does this anymore, not even so called traditional Italian bakeries. It makes a huge difference and shows they take real pride in what they do. I'm sure it will be delicious. read more

I've been coming here since I was IN THE WOMB. No really. My family used to live down in this section of good ole' Po-town, and I essentially grew up right down the street. My aunt would take me for walks and we always made a stop into this bakery along the way. If there is one dessert in this world that makes me nostalgic, it's rainbow cookies. La Deliziosa has THE BEST rainbow cookies. I would literally beg them to make more if they ran out, and we would stay until they had finished making them so I could have my fix. They also have cannoli shells lined up in the cooler and they fill them and finish them right there in front of you. Talk about fresh! And to this day still the best cannolis I've ever had. It's also fun to watch them wrap boxes up with the striped lengths of string-this style is kind of outdated these days so it's nice to see places keeping up with the tradition. As you can imagine, holidays here are crazy, especially Christmas. The line is out the door and around the corner. I've definitely waited in that line to get my assorted italian cookies box. It's always worth the long wait, and I've never heard anyone complain. I haven't found another bakery that compares to this one-I will be coming here until the day I die (or if they were forced to shut down, but that would definitely be a tragedy). read more

We were looking for a bakery that carried marzipan fruit candies and they had them in special for the holiday so we went over. No sooner did we park our car out front and walk in the door that all of a sudden a crowd of people walked in behind us and the store was then packed so we hit it just right. We were amazed at all the cookies, pastries and cakes they had on display. We ordered some sfoiglatells (spelled wrong), napolians, and some eclairs - once we got them home and ate them they were heavenly! La Deliziosa: my favorite place in Poughkeepsie. I had the pleasure of living down the block from here during my senior year of college. Every Sunday morning we would go down and get an assortment of fantastically delicious pastries. Personal favorites include: 1. the titular Delicious cake 2. Napoleons 3. Cannolis 4. Éclairs And pretty much anything else (besides the bhaba rum cakes, just not my taste). They also make wonderful cakes to order with any style/fill you could imagine one which has adhered itself to my memory was a marble cake with Bailey's chocolate mousse. I've bought them for many birthdays and other occasions. It has a wonderfully old school Italian vibe complete with thematic decorations to match the seasons. The smell was a combination of the regular pastries and all of the easter pastries.I ordered a cheesecake and a couple easter items. The cheesecake was extremely delicious and creamy. Everything is fresh and delicious. Their rugelach is amazing and they are one of the few places in the area I can find sfogliatelle.

We went here to pick up a cake for our friend's baptism party and while in there we decided to pick up some cannoli chips and dip and some other cookies. The staff was amazing and very accommodating. They were so friendly and you could tell they loved working there. We picked up the carrot cake and let me tell you, it was beyond delicious. Product is excellent, at least what I had, customer service not so much. Be aware that you have to park on the street, which is usually not a problem but the street is short and rather narrow. The place looks clean but dingy and old, there's no decor to speak of. When I've walked in no one acknowledges me, no hello, no nothing. The women behind the counter just keep going with their conversations. When I'm ready to order I have to tell them so. The women just looked and acted like they wanted to be anywhere but there. Questions were answered briefly. Not rudely, but not nicely either. The saving grace is their products are really good. The sfogliatelle are excellent, though they are only available on the weekends. The cannolis are also excellent, not too sweet and they fill them to order which is very important. The other pastries are also very good, but the one super standout is the pignoli cookies. They are perfect, the right texture, the right sweetness, everything about those cookies is wonderful. Overall, if they spruced up the decor and gave their employees some badly needed customer service lessons this would be a Hudson Valley super standout. Their products are as good or better than anything in New York City and the prices make this place a super bargain. You won't get great service, but you will get super delicious treats. read more

This is the best bakery in the area that we know of. Their cakes are delicious. We've had them several times, and the cake is always fresh, and they put just the right amount of cream and icing. Some bakeries over-do it by piling on overly-sweet cream, and hardly give you cake or filling. La Deliziosa's cream is not overly sweet which is hard to find these days. They make really nice cakes for a good price. The large cakes are great and they charge less than other competitors. The cookies and pastries are pretty typical modern bakery fare. Some are good, some are not. You just have to see what you like. I liked a few cookies, but didn't care for the pastries I tried. Their chocolate pops were okay. The struffoli was alright, but hard to chew. My family didn't care for them. The only time we complained to the store was when we bought a pie and it was undercooked. They were nice about it and gave credit that we used toward a different item. Good customer service is always appreciated. There were a couple of things I didn't complain about, because they weren't big deals. Once, their rum cake didn't have any rum flavor. But every other time we've had one, they put lots of tasty rum flavor. I chalk it up to they must've forgotten to add it that time. Also, I found a small hair on one of the items we bought. I didn't complain because this happens in so many restaurants, I lost track of how many times it has happened to me or someone I know. Nobody wears hair nets anymore. I wish they would. We went to the Walkway Over the Hudson State Park. We inadvertently/ fortunately parked just outside "Little Italy". After a round trip on the bridge, we needed a "treat". We asked a local and they told us LaDeliziosa was the place to go. We were not disappointed. It was hard choosing from the selection. I opted for a Cannoli "Tart" my wife got a Napoleon. Just as the name states this bakery is a blast from the past serving yummy tasting and beautiful looking Italian Pastries. Their specialty is cannoli cream and chips ( broken up pieces of the shell usually found with cannolis) not to be missed. Prices are very good as well. read more

I've been in, on occasion, for my favorite of theirs: the Linzer tart, only to discover that the tray in the display case is empty. Not a problem. They've made one for me right then and there.
