Our first experience, a little over a year ago, was fantastic. The staff was friendly and helpful, the prices were reasonable, and the pastries were delicious. Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to those memories. We stopped in shortly after opening to pick up some desserts for the three-hour drive home. Despite being one of the only customers there, we were not acknowledged for over five minutes and eventually had to ask if we could place an order. It wasn't the most welcoming start to our visit. We ordered two large cupcakes and two regular cupcakes and were surprised by the prices. The large cupcakes, which were only slightly bigger than the regular ones, were $6.00 each. The regular cupcakes were $3.25 each and were about the size of the mini cupcakes you might find at a grocery store bakery. We chose simple flavors--chocolate with chocolate frosting and vanilla with chocolate frosting--so there wasn't anything particularly unique or specialty-inspired to justify the higher cost. Unfortunately, the cupcakes themselves were disappointing. The cake was dry, and the frosting was very stiff, which made them less enjoyable than we had hoped. Given the price point, we expected a much fresher and more flavorful product. It's always disappointing when a place you once loved doesn't deliver the same experience on a return visit. While we have fond memories of our first stop at Pastry Garden, this visit left us underwhelmed, and sadly, it's not a place we'll be rushing back to.

But the WORST was that Alexis forgot to add my husband's (the birthday boy's) favorite part, the vanilla custard filling. So the disappointment was felt all around. I would not even be leaving this review, however, if Alexis had taken accountability for her mistake and offered a small refund (I asked for 25% of the cost which I believe is more than fair.) Alexis referred to her "no refund "statement on the invoice and refused to make this right (read below). This was an overall uncomfortable and disappointing experience. Alexis is obviously still learning a lot about cake decorating and business. You decide if you want your special occasion affected by someone who unfortunately lacks skills in these areas. Me: Hi, thank you for the beautiful cake. I was surprised though, after cutting into it, there was no vanilla custard or pudding. I believe that was what we agreed on and was on the invoice. Alexis: Good evening I truly apologize for not having filling in the cake. Yes, you are correct it is in the invoice. I had a few orders and I definitely could have missed it. I am very sorry for mistake. Please accept 25% off your next order as my sincerest apologies. I hope the cake was still enjoyable? Me: I had already told everyone it was going to have a filling so unfortunately there was a sense of disappointment when it was served. I appreciate the future order coupon but I really feel like some money should be refunded for this cake. To me, that would be the appropriate approach. Alexis: I am sorry to hear that. I don't offer refunds as noted in the estimate and invoice. For this time I will extend the refund of $10 for the filling not being added as this is the charge for the filling. I was hoping to offer a greater discount and better experience for the future. Me: $10 is unacceptable. For a $189 cake that was made wrong, I expect appropriate reparations. Essentially, I did not receive what I paid for, and you refunding me the cost for an ingredient is insulting and a failure to recognize the disappointment and embarrassment my guests and I experienced because of your mistake. In order to make this right, I would expect a minimum of 25% back from the original invoice. Out of respect for small business owners, I have not published my concerns online, however, I do expect good customer service. I hope you will reconsider the situation and make the appropriate reparations. Alexis: Good morning Barbara, I understand the inconvenience and disappointment caused and I apologize. Correct I acknowledged the filling was missing from my mistake. I charge $10-15 for fillings which is why I extended the cost of the missing portion of the order. 95% of the cake was completed as ordered with the addition of the macarons I made as well. There are no refunds and this is stated in estimate and invoice provided. I do apologize for the vanilla pudding filling to have not been added and have offered the refund for the charge of the filling as well as 25% off a future order. Me: Well it's unfortunate that I have to make this public and I do hope in time you take a little more pride in your customer service. Also, when you request to change the pick up time, it's best practice to show up on time or at least apologize if you are running late.

It's less than what you pay at the grocery store for a slice and way better. Not as good as Cheesecake Factory but it's also not $15. The cheesecake is a little dense. Good but a little dense. Key thing is to let it sit out for at least 30 minutes before eating it. Avoid the brownies. Sure they try to entice you by putting attractive flavors in them but no. You know those little Debbie cosmic brownies. Take two of those and put a flavoring in the middle and that's what you got. Our second try we got some of the cake "slices". Again some good some stay away from. The lemon one was good. Nice light fluffy cake with good lemon flavoring. Just not sure about the fancy frosting on top. It's not really frosting. It's like whipped cream and frosting combined. Not bad just different and a little weird. Avoid the carrot cake. It's not carrot cake. Has no carrot cake flavor. They use cream cheese frosting in the middle which is good but then they put the weird frosting they do on top and it just doesn't work. The cookies were meh. Don't get the big ones those were not good and the regular size were meh.

We did sit outside after 5 and it got busy as folks drove in and walked up after work. So, for us..I told hubby he didn't need to buy anything because he already had sweets in the hotel room. However once he had a look at the cases, he just had to buy something! His favorite is the lobster tail and cannoli and I had to get the black and white cookie. We sat outside and since I had to be on a call, hubby went in for a strawberry ice. No chocolate until the weekend . A couple of bites of the black and white cookie for me right away. It's not overly make my teeth rattle sweet and the crumb is very much like a cake. I ate the rest after dinner and it quickly had hardened. Hubby LOVED the lobster tail. 5 out of 5. Hubby took a taste of the cannoli and gave it a thumbs up. He enjoyed the water ice more than Ralph's because it wasn't as icy. Local businesses are so important to the local community and it seems that La Deliziosa is holding its own. Regardless let's keep them going!
