La Choza has officially become one of my favorite Mexican eateries in Boulder. As a foodie, I've learned to never judge a restaurant by its appearance, because some of the best places to eat at are either the small mom and pop restaurants or the hole-in-the-wall restaurants. I honestly much prefer these places over the fancy shmancy restaurants where the food is usually subpar at best. Originally, I was leaning towards taking our food to go, but I'm so glad we decided to dine in instead. We ordered the al pastor tacos and the torta with al pastor meat and fries--everything was so delicious and fresh. Although there are a few items on the menu that sound really appealing, I'll have to try my best not to order the same thing every time. The food is easily a 10/10. Service was great too. The woman who took our order was super friendly and helped my dining companion choose between 2 dishes. Both the cart and the store deliver some of the best wrapped burritos. Go with Al Pastor if it's your first time.

Today I went to eat at this restaurant. The rice was not fully cooked and the beans tasted old. This place is over priced. To make matters worse, there were roaches literally crawling on our table and seats. When trying to complain about the situation, the staffed blamed the connecting businesses and refused a refund nor even a partial refund. This restaurant needs to be shut down. read more

This hole in the wall is such a great place. I came here on an afternoon. I ordered the taco platter and 4 tacos. 2 carnitas, 2 asada, and 2 barbacoa. The barbarcoa was soooo delicious! I love the mini sauce bar, my favorite sauces are the habanero, avocado, and chipotle! Lots of parking nearby. This place is tucked in the corner. The service was quick and friendly. read more

Sometimes when you walk into a restaurant, you can tell if only the surface is being cleaned or if they actually do deep cleaning. This restaurant does not do deep cleaning if you look at the area where the table and the wall meet you can see grime. There's also a certain smell of a restaurant that only surface cleans, but doesn't deep clean. I went in November and there was a problem with flies. Please explain that. I only say maybe because if you are hungry and in a pinch for time, you can order ahead and get it to go, but I will definitely not eat there again. I just paid $3.50 for a pop. I threw away the cup of Dr Pepper I wanted to drink by accident. I went back in and politely asked for another cup. The lady then locked the door on me and refused to give me another cup. I had to leave then without service. Very rude people. Been coming here for 10 years and it's been absolutely phenomenal... arrived this morning and bought two breakfast burritos and two glass cokes and I never have a problem paying more than I'd like because you can't beat the breakfast burritos. Tipped generously after spending $30.00 and was told I coulnt have more than three sauce containers after asking for only one more with my initial order. I only wanted four sauces for two different people but wasn't able to secure the sauces. Don't have 8 different sauces and not expect someone to only want two cups for two people. Every now and then the veil to the other side of reality appears here in Boulder. North Boulder used to be the "Dogpatch" of town. Two strip clubs (yeah, there was one other than the Bus Stop) a few dive bars, Judy's Diner, and a scattering of trailers. Now it's been gentrified, tredified, Google-ized and hipped out, yet there remains a few of the old style establishments. I'm not sure how long La Choza has been around, but I hope they continue to fight the rebellion. When you walk in, you're not sure if your on South Federal or North Broadway. Your map will tell you Broadway, but looking around, this place in no way resembles Boulder. Refreshing. You order at the counter, lay down your $3.50, and have the options of something like ten different varieties of breakfast burritos. Santiago's can't hold a candle to this, folks. There you have 1 (one) choice of meat, and it's whatever the cook wants that day. Here, they have it all. Asada, carnita, chorizo, barbacoa, and some I've never heard of before. There's six kinds of salsas to the right of the counter, they kindly ask that you only take what you need. I love supporting local small businesses. I got 2 beef and 2 chicken tacos with a classic glass-bottled Coca Cola. The tacos were pretty average, thankfully there were some free sauces at the counter that totally made the meal. I'm really surprised it tasted like the meats were not seasoned well. We sorta ambushed them with like 12-13 people but they held up admirably and slung out burritos, breakfast and otherwise, to a group of decidedly haggard men in need of salvation. One of those men (me) ordered a jumbo smothered al pastor burrito and it was great. The pastor had that mix of fat and crunch that is the goal of all great al pastor and carnitas.
