I had an…read moreawful experience here and cannot see myself coming back, especially for the prices they charge. Perhaps we caught them on an off day, but it was bad. There was only one other table when we arrived. We ordered and waited about 10 minutes. Lentil soup was brought out. It was okay. 10 minutes later, we received our grape leaves... that cost $14.99. We were given four pieces (see photo). That's pretty outrageous. But okay, noted- we'll make sure not to order that next time. Another 10 minutes later, my partner received his falafel wrap. It just wasn't that good. It was pressed so there's no crispy falafel, just squished texture. It also wasn't flavorful at all. I'm waiting for my dish (grilled fish), and by the time my partner finishes the wrap, I see the waitress bringing out grilled fish... which she promptly gives to a table that just sat down. Another table starts to walk out because it's taking so long, but the owner stops them. I let the owner know that I'm ready to leave because my partner is done with dinner and I'm done waiting. She assures me that my fish will be out within 5 minutes. Eventually it comes out, but at this point I'm been waiting for about an hour, everything was brought out so slowly, and the food just wasn't that good. Well the fish and rice was fantastic - great flavor for both. Devoured the whole thing. We also ordered baklava, and again.. disappointing. Too much syrup and soaked to the point of being gummy. This was about $80 for everything. Although the fish was good, I can't handle the bad service and disappointing food.

About a year later, I found myself craving authentic Mediterranean food again, so I started searching for restaurants around New Hampshire. That's when I came across Ayasofia. As I looked through the menu and photos, everything seemed so familiar--it reminded me of the dishes I had loved at Mediterrano. The next day, my husband and I decided to drive an hour to Salem to try it out, and it was completely worth it. After speaking with the owner, we learned that Mediterrano had actually been owned by a member of his family and that they use the same recipes. It all made perfect sense! The owner was incredibly warm and welcoming, even encouraging us to return and meet his mother, who taught him these recipes. I highly recommend the hummus, baba ghanoush, salsa, and grape leaves--they're all fantastic. Be sure to order the lavash bread on the side, as it pairs perfectly with everything. For a main course, the adana lamb kebab is a must-try. Everything tastes incredibly fresh and full of flavor. I only wish I could cook like this--I'd happily eat Mediterranean food every single day!

My husband was particularly excited by how the rice was made. The grape leaves were good and the dinners came with the red cabage and salad. Delicious. I also got the Raki, because I was having Turkish food, but all the cocktails sounded very good. We did not sit in the bar, but they sounded like they were having the time of their lives in there. At one point Rod Stewart came on over the speakers and you could hear them shouting "ROD!!!" I was like, shit - Turkish food AND the regulars love Rod Stewart? Sign me up! If we lived anywhere near here, we'd be back.

To start with, the service was incredible, from the very sweet, friendly hostess, to our patient, helpful, excellent server. We ordered a few appetizers, the grilled Octopus, which is served with fava spread (?)- dad said it was perfectly cooked and tender. We had the hand cut fries with feta- SO GOOD!! There is nothing like fresh French fries! We also had the Spinach Pie- Spanakopita, which was authentic, and fresh!! Before I forget to mention- the fresh bread comes with homemade olive tapenade. Fabulous!! For our meals, two of us both got the Pork Gyro plates. They were HUGE! So tasty, and delicious, served with hand cut French fries, pita bread, tomato and onion slices, and fresh tzatziki sauce. We have enough for a few meals! The restaurant the beautiful. So warm and inviting. I can't wait to go back! Don't mind the pictures- we forgot to take them before we ate a few bites!

I saw a bad review about seeing "open" tables as a walk in, however I am in the industry and I know that they were reserved for parties who pre booked. Whether you're stopping in for a casual meal or a special night out, this place delivers on every level. Fantastic food, outstanding service, and an atmosphere that keeps you coming back. Highly recommended.

The portion size is variable. I've had it "generous" and I've had it "Whoa - that's a LOT of food". They're not covered with a standard tzatziki sauce - theirs is more feta forward. Super tasty. The fries vary as well. Sometimes a bit crunchier and sometimes, while still crunchy, more toward McD fries style. But it's just the outer surface that crunches. Inside it's smooth and creamy. Top drawer. You'll find that they tuck a few fries into the wrap. A nice touch. The only negative point is speed. I've always been there early - the first for lunch. But it still takes a fair bit of time to get the food. Arrive during the crowded time and you're definitely going to be waiting around. But ... worth it. They have a lot more on the menu and have an interesting alcohol free beer/soda that was new to me and a nice change from actual soda. Definitely worth a visit.

For dessert they surprised me with a birthday slice of carrot cake, which was the perfect sweet ending. The space is beautifully decorated with floral aesthetics and a bright, welcoming atmosphere. There's even a real London red phone booth outside the entrance, and we each got a cute red phone booth keychain to take home, which was such a fun touch. For drinks, my friends tried the special martinis while I had the raspberry fizz, which was super refreshing and perfect for welcoming the spring season. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly and attentive. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a plus. The only tiny con was the music overhead was a bit loud... let's just say at one point our table conversation sounded more like we were at an indoor concert than having lunch. Another small downside was the bathroom situation--there seemed to be only one or two stalls for men and women, so there was a bit of a wait Overall, it was a wonderful birthday spot!

It was very loud- club music going, people talking loud over the music, and screeching children that did not want to be there. Tables are very close togther as well. We ordered the cabbage rolls, chicken kabob, and haddock. The server brought out the wrong dinner- was corrected, Cabbage rolls came and they were warm and tasted well- good with the thin pita bread that was on the table. Salad- nice and fresh and nice homemade dressing. Iceberg lettuce was kind of boring. Chicken kabab was nice and tender and flavorful- a good portion. It came with thin fries and grilled peppers and onion. Overall the food was decent- not sure I would want to come back here anytime soon as there are plenty of other options here in Salem.

I recently enjoyed some food from Chez Rafiki's at Tree House Brewing Company in Charlton. I was visiting the brewery with my two-year-old son and we decided to get some food from the food truck. I was excited to see that Chez Rafiki's was the food truck that day because I love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine. After looking over the menu, I decided to order Chez Rafiki's Special: the "Chicken Killer" (Rice, Fries, Chicken Shawarma, Pickled Red Onion, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Garlic Sauce, Feta Cheese). I also ordered a side of Falafel. I absolutely loved the Chicken Killer; a symphony of Mediterranean flavors and spices. My son has never tried this kind of cuisine before. He wouldn't touch the Chicken Killer but he absolutely loved the Falafel. He happily gobbled down half of the Falafel balls. I would definitely order from Chez Rafiki's again if I saw them at another brewery or festival.

Very fresh ingredients were used, loaded with shaved moist roasted chicken, fries were added and the sauces were flavorful and delicious! Cost per gyro was around $12.95. I would argue unless you were super hungry each gyro could last two servings! The side of greek fries was a bit confusing I will say. For the take out part, the fries came in a huge brown bag. It felt like a 5 pound bag of fries which costed $9. I think in hindsight if we had known that's how many fries we would get with a side order we would have not ordered that. Also, who charges $9 for a "side" of fries?! No one. So that was the only complaint. But, the servers were friendly and service was fast and generous. The ambiance was nice! I would visit regularly if we were in the area more often. We definitely be back hopefully soon!

The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, so there are never any issues finding a spot. However, some of neighboring businesses are no longer in operation, which leaves the area feeling a bit quiet. The space inside is open and airy, but it can feel a little awkward without any background music, as you can clearly hear everyone's conversations around you. While the pita bread itself is flavorful and soft, the chicken was unfortunately quite dry, which made the overall texture less enjoyable. The flavors were decent, but the dryness of the chicken stood out. I got tzatiki sauce on the side and it helped. One thing to note is that each topping you add that is not already on the item itself, is an additional charge. I enjoyed the zucchini fritters--crispy and packed with flavor. However, at four fritters per order, I felt it was a bit pricey for the portion size. There's a self-serve soda fountain along with a limited selection of beers available. Service was strangely slow and what I can only described as "unbothered". A simple, satisfying meal, but there are areas for improvement.
