Okay... this place is great! It's like a homemade version of crown fried chicken. The owner runs…read morethe whole place. He's all alone and literally makes everything himself. Props to him! That's a heavy load to take on and he does a great job at it. Everything is super cheap here and taste great. If you're a student at Middlesex Community college like me. Let's face it, theres days when we're broke and need a place to grab a cheap quick lunch. This is definitely the spot. Pizza rolls: I love these things. He made them perfectly and you can tell he hand rolls them himself. And they're only a $1!! Double cheeseburger: BOMB! I'm so picky with burgers. I don't give a shit if it's messy looking, lets be real. If it tastes good, it's serving it's purpose. I'm super picky and customized it as I liked and he accommodated it. Thank you! Not many places do! Fries: perfectly crunchy. Not soft and soggy like most places. Maybe a little less seasoning. I know not a lot of people like spicy foods. But I enjoy it. Chicken Kabob Plate: my boyfriend and I split this because of how big it was. We ordered it with extra rice instead of the usual side of salad it comes with. The owner offered us either Indian or Spanish rice. We went with the Spanish and it tasted great, it even had vegetables in it. The chicken was nice and juicy with grilled peppers and onions. The rice and chicken had a nice kick to it. Not too spicy and just flavor. Chicken and Fries (not pictured): My boyfriend devoured this. The chicken is definitely not anything like crown fried or Jacqueline's chicken. The owner literally uses his own recipe. My boyfriend loved it and the chicken looked really fresh and juicy. He swallowed the thing before I even got a chance to take a picture of it lol. Please go visit guys! This little place has so much potential. It might seem a little stand off it by the looks of it but it's worth going in and trying it out The owner is so sweet, he even offered my boyfriend a free banana milkshake while he waited for the food to be done. Thanks Jimmy! Try it out! You won't regret it !

The reviews for this place caught my eye as I do like Mediterranean Turkish cuisine. I noticed that they had standard fare as well as lots of veggie and vegetarian options on their menu. I decided to run in quickly with my order for a beef gyro as well as an eggplant gyro. My first impression was that the place is cute casual and clean. The friendly staff member took my order and after a short wait, I was given a neatly packaged small shopping bag. I appreciated the disposable plates and utensils that were included without my asking, and am always iffy about eating on the go. I am not a fan of messy so there is that haha. Let me just say that I was completely satisfied with my gyros as they tasted great. They also added a nice amount of tzatziki sauce just as requested yum. It was delish, so much so that I scarfed it down without taking any pictures. This was indeed an enjoyable late lunch!

About a year later, I found myself craving authentic Mediterranean food again, so I started searching for restaurants around New Hampshire. That's when I came across Ayasofia. As I looked through the menu and photos, everything seemed so familiar--it reminded me of the dishes I had loved at Mediterrano. The next day, my husband and I decided to drive an hour to Salem to try it out, and it was completely worth it. After speaking with the owner, we learned that Mediterrano had actually been owned by a member of his family and that they use the same recipes. It all made perfect sense! The owner was incredibly warm and welcoming, even encouraging us to return and meet his mother, who taught him these recipes. I highly recommend the hummus, baba ghanoush, salsa, and grape leaves--they're all fantastic. Be sure to order the lavash bread on the side, as it pairs perfectly with everything. For a main course, the adana lamb kebab is a must-try. Everything tastes incredibly fresh and full of flavor. I only wish I could cook like this--I'd happily eat Mediterranean food every single day!

My husband was particularly excited by how the rice was made. The grape leaves were good and the dinners came with the red cabage and salad. Delicious. I also got the Raki, because I was having Turkish food, but all the cocktails sounded very good. We did not sit in the bar, but they sounded like they were having the time of their lives in there. At one point Rod Stewart came on over the speakers and you could hear them shouting "ROD!!!" I was like, shit - Turkish food AND the regulars love Rod Stewart? Sign me up! The only thing that could really stand a bit of improvement is the time from order to arrival. But if the tradeoff is less quality on the eating experience then I'm happy to wait.

For dessert they surprised me with a birthday slice of carrot cake, which was the perfect sweet ending. The space is beautifully decorated with floral aesthetics and a bright, welcoming atmosphere. There's even a real London red phone booth outside the entrance, and we each got a cute red phone booth keychain to take home, which was such a fun touch. For drinks, my friends tried the special martinis while I had the raspberry fizz, which was super refreshing and perfect for welcoming the spring season. The food was fantastic and the service was friendly and attentive. There's also plenty of parking, which is always a plus. The only tiny con was the music overhead was a bit loud... let's just say at one point our table conversation sounded more like we were at an indoor concert than having lunch. Another small downside was the bathroom situation--there seemed to be only one or two stalls for men and women, so there was a bit of a wait Overall, it was a wonderful birthday spot!

Originally hailing from Casablanca, Morocco, Chef Rafiq is a graduate of Boston's Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. After working at several Boston restaurants, Rafiq decided to start his own food truck. Chez Rafiki's serves authentic Halal Mediterranean cuisine made with fresh local ingredients. Some of the menu staples include falafel, chicken shawarma, gyro, kofta, and salads. Chez Rafiki's travel all over Massachusetts bringing their delicious food to various craft breweries, festivals and private catering events. I recently enjoyed some food from Chez Rafiki's at Tree House Brewing Company in Charlton. I was visiting the brewery with my two-year-old son and we decided to get some food from the food truck. I was excited to see that Chez Rafiki's was the food truck that day because I love Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine. After looking over the menu, I decided to order Chez Rafiki's Special: the "Chicken Killer" (Rice, Fries, Chicken Shawarma, Pickled Red Onion, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Garlic Sauce, Feta Cheese). I also ordered a side of Falafel. I absolutely loved the Chicken Killer; a symphony of Mediterranean flavors and spices. My son has never tried this kind of cuisine before. He wouldn't touch the Chicken Killer but he absolutely loved the Falafel. He happily gobbled down half of the Falafel balls. I would definitely order from Chez Rafiki's again if I saw them at another brewery or festival.

Very fresh ingredients were used, loaded with shaved moist roasted chicken, fries were added and the sauces were flavorful and delicious! Cost per gyro was around $12.95. I would argue unless you were super hungry each gyro could last two servings! The side of greek fries was a bit confusing I will say. For the take out part, the fries came in a huge brown bag. It felt like a 5 pound bag of fries which costed $9. I think in hindsight if we had known that's how many fries we would get with a side order we would have not ordered that. Also, who charges $9 for a "side" of fries?! No one. So that was the only complaint. But, the servers were friendly and service was fast and generous. The ambiance was nice! I would visit regularly if we were in the area more often. We definitely be back hopefully soon!

Pita is a straightforward, fast-casual spot offering classic options like gyros, souvlaki, and pita…read morewraps, with a selection of sides. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, so there are never any issues finding a spot. However, some of neighboring businesses are no longer in operation, which leaves the area feeling a bit quiet. The space inside is open and airy, but it can feel a little awkward without any background music, as you can clearly hear everyone's conversations around you. While the pita bread itself is flavorful and soft, the chicken was unfortunately quite dry, which made the overall texture less enjoyable. The flavors were decent, but the dryness of the chicken stood out. I got tzatiki sauce on the side and it helped. One thing to note is that each topping you add that is not already on the item itself, is an additional charge. I enjoyed the zucchini fritters--crispy and packed with flavor. However, at four fritters per order, I felt it was a bit pricey for the portion size. There's a self-serve soda fountain along with a limited selection of beers available. Service was strangely slow and what I can only described as "unbothered". A simple, satisfying meal, but there are areas for improvement.
