We had an overall great experience at La Chev in Summerville. It's described as a French restaurant, and the atmosphere definitely reflects that--beautiful, intimate, and on the smaller side downstairs. They do have an upstairs as well, though we didn't get to see it. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and made the evening feel relaxed. We started with a glass of wine and a few appetizers to share. The Lobster Bisque was the one letdown of the night--it tasted overwhelmingly like corn, and everyone in our group agreed. But the Duck Dumplings, French Onion Meatballs, and Provençal Mussels were all delicious. The menu felt unique, which made it fun to order different small plates and try everything together. Since we weren't too hungry, we split one entrée: the Coquille St. Jacque (Scallops). The scallops were cooked perfectly, and although the dish was very rich, it was still enjoyable. For dessert, the Crème Brûlée was fantastic--and they offer a free dessert on your birthday, which is a nice touch. Price-wise, it wasn't bad at all. For three people and all that food, the total was around $200 before tip, which felt reasonable considering the quality and amount we ordered. We didn't bring Luna this time, but they do have a full outdoor patio where pets are welcome. A great option for next time!

That grilled cheese and basil tomato soup is just so good -- it never misses. The drinks are always on point, the vibe is great, and the staff is super friendly. And don't skip dessert -- the crème brûlée is a must-try. Perfectly done and such a great way to finish a meal. Such a solid lunch spot. Can't wait to go back again!

A beautiful spot to enjoy lunch after shopping at the market. Enjoy a glass of wine and a delicious lunch in a beautiful little spot... and service is great! This last visit we enjoyed meeting and chatting the owners! Fun folks, you just want to ask them to pull up a chair. Goals? I need to head there for dinner because I am craving a good, warm beef bourguignon!

I've lived in Summerville for almost two years and am late to finding out about La Chev 208 but so glad that I did! I went on a Sunday night with a reservation for inside. The atmosphere is warm and cozy inside & I liked that you can see the kitchen from the downstairs dining room. I started the meal with a French kiss martini and it was a bit too strong for my liking, but otherwise smooth. We ordered the French onion meatballs that packed so much flavor! My hubby got the lobster bisque and loved it. For dinner my hubby got the braised short ribs and I go the duck cassoulet. I absolutely loved the risotto that came with the braised short ribs. The duck cassoulet was not too rich or gamey and had great flavor! I ended our dinner with an espresso martini after our waitress Rebekah said she makes a really good one. She didn't lie! I think this was the best espresso martini I've had so far in Charleston, and I've tried many! It also came with golden glitter beans that made me so happy! I will definitely be back!

La Chev 208 is an absolute gem tucked into downtown Summerville. The moment you walk up, you can feel the charm--they've transformed a historic house into a warm, inviting restaurant that's perfect for a cozy dinner or a celebratory night out. From the start, our server Anna was wonderful. She was genuinely sweet, walked us through the menu, and pointed out some great recommendations. Her guidance set the tone for the evening almost as much as the cocktails did--and those were fantastic. Our drinks kicked things off beautifully and set the mood for what turned into a truly memorable meal. We shared several small plates to begin: the Pomme Frites, Coquille St. Jacque, and French Onion Meatballs. Every single dish was delicious. With four of us at the table, we asked how many meatballs we'd get--normally three. In true classy fashion, they surprised us by bringing four so everyone had one. And wow... they were outstanding. The Coquille St. Jacque was rich, indulgent, and loaded with scallops. And the Pomme Frites? If you know, you know--they were perfect. For entrées, we tried the Bouillabaisse, Salmon, Crab Cake, and the Bone-In Pork Chop. The Bouillabaisse was bursting with seafood and seasoned beautifully. The Salmon was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Anna had suggested the Crab Cake, and she did not steer us wrong--another hit. The Pork Chop was one of the standouts of the night: perfectly cooked, served over mashed sweet potatoes with collard greens that hit every note just right. We were sure dessert was impossible after all that... but since we were celebrating a birthday, the kitchen surprised us with an Apple Crisp. And holy cow--it was phenomenal. Warm, comforting, and the perfect finish to an already incredible evening. If you haven't been to La Chev 208, go. And if you went right after their reopening and felt it wasn't quite there yet--go again. The team has hit their stride, the food is exceptional, and the beautiful outdoor space in the back is worth the visit on its own. You won't be disappointed

Service was excellent, good rate of refilling our waters. It's a cozy house and the bathrooms are the first I've ever seen to have dental floss! Next level right there. My daughter devoured the ravioli which the kitchen graciously modified for a brown butter sauce. The appetizers were great, get the pomme frites they are AMAZING. The deviled eggs are also great over a "nest" of shoestring potatoes and the salmon roe is not overly fishy. The French bread is reminiscent of French bread pizza, I wasn't expecting that for the table bread but it was nice. The shrimp and grits were great, the filet is a wonderful deal. We were a little disappointed in the flounder, it was cooked perfect flaky but the breading was a little too much of a flour taste.

    208 breakfast plate

La chev has a welcoming and well decorated environment. The service was incredible and quick but not rushed. I went for brunch and got a classic coffee, 208 breakfast plate and buttermilk beignets. The duck fat fries are cooked to perfection and so tasty! I also loved the beignets for a sweet treat.

    Amazing.

We've been here four times by now before writing this review and overall not really recommended considering the top notch restaurants popping up in the downtown Summerville area. While I will say the shrimp and grits are top notch, everything else falls really short. The duck dumplings, waffles (for chicken and waffles), and French bread pizzas were subpar. Almost seems not made in house, either frozen or sourced from a non-local vendor (spoken mass produced and price is not proportional to quality). They did, however, do a really nice job with the renovation and the wine selection is nice. Overall for French I would skip this place and go to Kersey house (duck there is phenomenal). However, I wish them luck in their future endeavor and hope they make some changes in the kitchen staff to help this place propel to the top.

This is a very cute restaurant, located in an old home just blocks and walking distance from main downtown Summerville. Whom ever restored the outside of this place did a masterful job. The downstairs is small, but I think there is dinning upstairs as well as outside. Overall the service from start to finish was very good. The overall meal was OK with a couple of really good items and a few items that could have been better. We started and split Duck Dumplings with a Cabernet sweet and sour sauce. I liked this dish much better than the wife did The Provencal PEI Mussels Saffron, and cherry tomatoes was cooked nicely, but lacked a bit of punch. The Lobster Bisque clearly had lobster flavor, but for the dish to really be special it needed actual chunks of lobster meat to elevate it. I am not sure if the Rack of Lamb was smoked, and could be it did not have a nice char that I prefer to have. The lamb was served over a tasty rouille sauce. Although a bit on the heavy side, I thought the Cauliflower gratin was excellent. The wife had the Fish & Frites. The fish was Crispy flounder, which was cooked perfectly, and served over the same rouille sauce as the lamb. We both really loved the rosemary fries. I mean you wouldn't be able to stop eating them if you were served100lbs. This would have been a perfect dish had The breading on the fish been been seasoned more

Excellent meal at La Chev. Arrived 1/2 hour early and were able to be seated immediately- see the end of the review* We ordered a variety of food and it was all wonderful- minus the house bread. Started with Moscow mules / pretty good. Moved on to the House bread was marinara and melted cheese. It was okay but should probably not be a menu item. It isn't needed. Meatballs came in a serving of 3. They were some of the best I've had. Salad with goat cheese and strawberries was incredible. My friend ordered the Caesar and that was also wonderful. We split an entree of the Bouillabaisse and it was also incredible. The broth was to die for. Shared crème brûlée for dessert. Perfect. The owner came by the table to make sure everything was okay- very personable and friendly. Minus one star for the hostess who greeted us. Very unfriendly and almost a judgmental attitude. Need to work on that when you're welcoming guests that are wanting a pleasant evening. Very much a turn off - the rest of the staff turned it around for us.

Charming little restaurant in an old house. Inside dining but we chose to eat outside because it was a beautiful day. Service was very attentive. Several asked how we were doing and if we needed anything else. We tried several dishes starting with Caesar salad and Chevalier. The Chevalier salad was my favorite with goat cheese and fresh strawberries. Next we ordered Coquille St. Jacque...amazed how many scallops were included in the dish. French onion meatballs were flavorful and really a small plate and plenty to eat along with salad. Fish & frites while delicious, I would have preferred the flounder another way besides fried...maybe blackened. It was definitely an enjoyable, relaxing lunch and a place we will visit again.

An unforgettable double date night at the newly reopened La Chev 208 in Summerville! From the inviting ambiance to the beautifully designed outdoor patio, every detail created the perfect dining experience. And the food? Devine! Chef Jonny and his team sure knows how to put together a wonderful meal! If you haven't visited yet, now is the time to experience all that La Chev has to offer! Pomme Frites - Duck fat, rosemary, shaved goat cheese, and rouille Fig & Prosciutto - Pickled red onion, goat cheese, and arugula Beef Bourguignon - Yukon gold potato, crispy onion, and cabernet jus Filet Mignon - Entrecote sauce, pomme puree, and hot honey carrots Bouillabaisse - Mussels, scallops, shrimp, salmon, and saffron Salmon - Okra pilau, sweet corn, lardon, and hot honey

We went for our anniversary last night. Food was amazing, Amanda was our server and did a great job. Great ambiance. The French bread appetizer was amazing, more like pizza. The filet mignon over mashed potatoes and green beans was delicious. My favorite dessert is creme brûlée and it did not disappoint, with fresh strawberries and whipped cream

The drinks are priced on the higher end, but the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere makes it feel approachable. We also love that they offer seasonal and holiday cocktails, which is right up our alley. We brought Luna along and sat on the patio, which was a nice option. I would love to see heaters added outside to make the patio more comfortable on cooler nights. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I ordered the Fireside Chat (served warm), made with Four Roses Bourbon, Croft Tawny Port, apple cider, orange juice, grenadine, turbinado sugar, allspice, and clove ($15). I really enjoyed the flavor profile--warm, well-balanced, and perfect for the season. That said, I was a little disappointed that my second drink wasn't garnished nearly as nicely as the first, especially given the price. Flavor-wise, though, both were very good. My husband started with the Gingersnap, which includes Monkey Shoulder blended Scotch whisky, Disaronno almond liqueur, butterscotch liqueur, spiced ginger syrup, heavy cream, Angostura bitters, cookie rim, and nutmeg ($16). He enjoyed it but felt it was definitely a one-drink cocktail due to how sweet, creamy, and heavy it was. He also ordered the Smoked Maple-Bacon Old Fashioned with bacon fat-washed bourbon, spiced maple syrup, tobacco bitters, and a salted brown sugar rim ($16). This one was a miss for him--too sweet, with the maple and smoke overpowering the drink, and not much bacon flavor coming through. That said, the presentation was excellent; watching the smoke being lit was a highlight, and I even grabbed a video of it. Our total came to about $71 before tip, and we didn't order any food, so it's definitely on the pricier side. Still, for the ambiance, creative cocktails, and overall experience, I think it's worth it--especially for a relaxed night out with a more elevated feel.

The shrimp had a very strong, fishy smell that was honestly off-putting, and the flavor matched. That said, not everything missed the mark. My coworkers ordered the chicken salad, chicken wrap with sweet potato fries , blackened chicken pasta, and bruschetta, and all of those dishes were absolutely delicious and well prepared. They definitely helped redeem the overall experience and show the kitchen is still capable of putting out great food. Adri was our server, and she was an absolute delight--a total gem. This restaurant has been on my list for a long while and I have heard good things but definitely under-delivered on the food. Charred Octopus which was tender was more of a black eyed pea/bean dish with an octopus garnish, 1 of our anticipated apps was tuna tartare...and was extremely salty, totally over dressed with soy, and how many dishes do you need to garnish with zoodles? I have difficulty with steps but there were enough railings to make it navigable for me. The building was likely to have at one time been a small house. There were six of us in our party and we were initially told we would be sharing one bill and the gratuity would be automatically added. A couple of our folks expressed concern and intentionally ordered cheaper items and no drinks to make sure they had adequate funds to split the bill. Fortunately our waitress, who was a joy, did individual bills and did not put on an automatic gratuity. The policy had the potential to seriously reduce the restaurant's income. They should probably rethink this stance. As noted, our waitress was terrific and rapidly got drink and food orders sorted. The menu is pretty short, but probably a good choice for a small pub type restaurant. My wife and I both selected an on-tap local brew, both of which were good and reasonably priced. We both also selected the fish and chips. The order came with a side of cole slaw that was pleasant. The chips were obviously made on site and both properly cooked and well seasoned. We are always surprised at restaurants that serve obviously bagged and frozen fries. The fish itself was reasonably sized and nicely fried. Quite tasty, but we sort of expected good seafood as this is a sister restaurant to a local seafood establishment. For the price the portion sizes of all the meals at the table seemed just a bit small. So we will quite likely return. It's not fancy. It's not high end dining. It's a tad pricey for pub food, but overall pretty good. I note here that had our waitress not been a gem or had they enforced the one check policy, this review would have been a good deal more negative. But I liked it. The Brussels and burnt ends were fine but needed a lot more meat, especially for a $4 up charge over fries (and I think they were $9 menu price which is insane for a side). My kid liked his burger and fries and it honestly looked good. Service was fine, or complaints or anything amazing there. I'm usually not a fan of gussied up burgers and fries but this spot was decent and should be a four star place, but the prices were simply not OK. I could have had a whole steak from Outback for the price of a burger here. I've had much better Reubens in big cities like Chicago, NYC, and Montreal that were bigger and with better sides for less money. If I am paying $22 for a sandwich and side it needs to absolutely change my reality and I that just didn't happen here. Prices need to drop here by 25% or more to be fair. J.Ja
