I was looking for something less common and was excited to see potato latkes with sour cream and apple sauce as an option. That would have been great but then the waitress (Salome maybe) said, "Do you like corned beef?" The Schmoozer is 3 enormous latkes with thinly shaved and lightly grilled corn beef on top with an over easy egg atop that. Seriously, I can declare victory for finding something I'd never had before. Never would have found it without the nudge. Had to cut myself off with all the coffee offers. Just a great vibe. You rarely see a 4.9 rating and even more rarely that high based on so many reviews. But I understand why - like in so many things in life, it is about the people. I ordered a beautiful cheese danish and iced tea to go. The wonderful cashier boxed the pastry and I waited for the tea. While I was watching, I noticed that the person who appeared to be the chef was brewing me an individual cup of tea to ice to go. I thought that was a lovely touch so I sat while waiting. And that place is so serene and calming. I could feel myself relaxing in there while waiting. After getting the tea, while walking to my scooter. I could feel myself revving up again. I took a swig of tea. And I stopped in my tracks in the alley. That cup of iced tea may be one of the best I've had outside my grandmother's. It was perfect. I wasn't necessarily sold on the mint at first, but on tasting it--wow! The flavor was so full and complex for iced tea. I could taste the oil from the mint in the tea--and I'm not even any kind of foodie. I put my boxed danish on the scooter seat and put my helmet down and just stopped for a few minutes and savored that freaking perfect iced tea on an absolutely gorgeous morning in the city--a morning I was trying to rush through and ignore. It was such a delight. I did go to the conference and once seated, I opened the pastry. And, like the tea, that was one of the best cheese danishes I've ever had in my life.
