Okay, so probably about 3 years ago was the last time I came here because the food went downhill fast from being my absolute favorite, BUT was craving Mexican a few weeks ago and called in an order to go. OMG. The Salsa was on point, not too hot, like it had been previously, if it's too mild you can spice it up to your liking (which I prefer! You can put the heat in but you can't take the heat out!) White Cheese Queso was ahhhmazing, enchiladas were delish, Mexican Rice = perfection, and the Black Refried Beans topped with Cojita Cheese were awesome( you have to specify you want REFRIED BLACK BEANS or they will give you the Orange Refried Pinto Beans, which I'm sure some people like) it's a prefrerence thing with that, but I did not care for the pinto beans. Ohhhh and the Churros & Fried Ice Cream, JUST DO IT. Sooo excited my favorite Mexican place is back to being bomb! Guessing they're under new management? Idk. But definitely back to normal, been back several times in the past month! Back to being consistent, yayyy! TIP: If you do place an order TO-GO, and you get crunchy hard tacos, have them not put it together, otherwise they tend to get a bit soggy. Covington on hwy 190 Place is dirty. Needs a cleaning & paint. Service was fine. Food needs improvement (tast & was cold) & margaritas were watered down. Not going back. Now we went to the one in Mandeville and was totally impressed. Will return to that one. read more

Just visiting the area and the last time we were in town we ate here. We made sure we returned. My husband had the burrito wrap with steak and he said it was damn good and he can be hard critic so that's saying a lot. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was also very good. Aweful service. Ordered appetizers took 40 min to get. When they finally came out they were burnt and over cooked. After saying something new ones came out. Better cooked but over an hour had past. We decided to pay our tab and leave. Never ate main course. Will not eat here again. read more

I came into La Carreta today to pick up some food and the manager was so sweet after hearing that I'm recovering from my surgery. He discounted my food and said he hopes for a well recovery. I dont know what it is about this place, every time I eat here im just not impressed. The waitress could not even tell me the diff between the baja version taco or the regular. Got a mojito, it tasted mostly like sprite and they did not muddle the mint. What's the point of the mojito if they don't muddle the mint?? No more chances on this place. read more

The food is ok, not great. It's cheap so you kinda get what you pay for. Drinks are good though. My biggest complaint is the live music. La Carreta, please turn it down! I can appreciate having live music for your customers, and the musicians are always great. But when the speakers are turned so loud that I have to yell to the person across from me to have a conversation, it's way too loud. I could understand it if they played loudly for like 10 mins and then took a 15-20 min break because it gives everyone a chance to talk. But when it's so loud for an hour or longer, its not an enjoyable experience. And this is a regular thing when they have live music. So please please please turn down the volume for the live music. read more

We got into town and needed a place that was quick and easy, reasonably priced and suitable for our pescatarian needs. So we gave this place a shot and were not disappointed. Being from San Diego, our standards for Mexican food are pretty high but La Carreta would be competitive among the tourist or chain Mexican places in our area. Service was good and responsive, albeit by a somewhat overextended staff. The initial chips and salsa was tourist style- no heat - so not great. The Margarita was OK - not too sweet, which is a common error for this sort of place, but no indication that there would be any tequila choice. I had the avocado salad with red fish, and found it to be very good- authentic red fish prepared well over lightly dressed greens with plenty of avocado sliced thin. My sig-other had cheese enchiladas - not great but passable. Live music - solo singer and guitarist, and plenty of TVs provided a sports bar entertaining atmosphere within the American Mexican restaurant decor. I can recommend this place as OK and a good value. read more

Worst experience ever. Walked in at 7:50pm when place closed at 8pm. Was told by rude hostess that they were closed. I said it was 7:50 not 8pm. She proceeded to roll her eyes at me, sigh loudly then stomp off never to return 4 minutes later. Must not need customers. Updated review. The place was remodeled & looks great. However, the food isn't so great, it's the same bland stuff. I ordered a margarita & it was too sweet & I couldn't drink it. I expressed this to the waiter & he kept trying to get me to try a different drink but I just wasn't feeling it. They knew I didn't like my drink, I only took one sip and couldn't drink it, but still, they didn't take it off my bill. Last time I'll go there...that wasn't cool. read more

The atmosphere and food are really great! I have two concerns however. The parking can be very limited during peak hours and what I find most bothering is their "top shelf" margarita. As a former bartender it's obvious that mine was right out of their daiquiri machine and not at all what I wanted or paid for. Average Mexican Restauramt. The food was good but there is a cheese sauce they put on everything. The sauce tastes like salty velveeta. The beans taste like chili... Me and my fiancé both got the chimichangas. They were filled with tomatoes (which I've never had in a chimichanga before) with very little meat. The rice had some kind of see in it, the lettuce, pico de gallo, and guacamole all looked like it came out of my middle school cafeteria. And of course the beans tasted like chili. I at first could place the odd flavor of the beans and why I was turned off by them until my fiancé told me he thought it tasted like chili. And that's when my lightbulb went off because he was right on point. Will not return. read more

Had supper here Friday night, the place was packed but, we were seated right away. After the salsa and chips were placed, we got a real treasure, our server, Emily J. Bright, bubbly personality with a big smile and she took our drink order. Drinks were served and we made our requests. Appetizers, black bean soup and duck quesadillas...the soup, excellent as always, the duck quesadillas need some work, no real duck flavor as it was ground instead of shreds. Our entrees were a shrimp chimichanga for my wife and a Monterey shrimp dinner for myself. The shrimp dinner was excellent, seasoned well. My wife doesn't do well with peppery heat and the chimichanga was hot. Emily, once she learned about it, checked and found they had started adding pico to the dish. She got my wife another one without the pico and all was well. My wife declared this version very good. Emily, despite the crush of people, handled our little dilemma gracefully and swiftly. This place was amazing! The food was delicious and live music made the experience even more fun!! The pollo loco was amazing. Some of the juiciest and well seasoned chicken I have had in awhile! I can't remember the name of the dish my husband ordered, but it came with a small cup of queso!! So good!! You can tell the ingredients are all extremely fresh! I love the salsa!! My boys shared the chicken enchiladas and there was plenty! Oh and the chicken tortilla soup was so flavorful!
