This place was so good. I had a pastor and chicken fajita taco w/ black beans and rice. So, so good! The cucumber mojito was also amazing!

Satisfying Tex-Mex style food. Ordered the Chimichanga lunch special and husband ordered the steak and eggs. They didn't allow substitutions on the type of meat for lunch specials. Food tasted fresh, service was great and place was clean. Good $3.50 happy hour margarita specials fr 3pm-6pm-- they're very basic green mix and well tequila, not strong and exactly what you'd expect for $3.50 margaritas ‍ But overall a good meal. read more

its unclean, the waiters don't make sure ur drinks are refilled and take a long time to come take ur order and normally just sit around. the Queso is rock hard cant even dip a chip in it. the food taste is alright. menus are confusing af. but i don't expect a lot from something near a dirty plaza. read more

I always come here for lunch, but was surprised when I asked for extra cheese on my taco's and they brought out a small cup of Velveeta cheese instead of shredded cheese., some miscommunication here I would say. The Steak & eggs for lunch is the best I've seen so far. read more

I've been here several times in the past, service is good and fast but friendly. The menu is standard American styled Mexican food, prices are reasonable and the portions are large. We usually get at least one Chile releno and chimichangas or enchiladas. The red sauce is good, the salsa is good too, and don't forget the queso cheese dip. EXCELLENT. I cannot say enough about how awesome the location, staff, and food/specials are! My coworkers and I went on taco Tuesday for a coworkers going away party & their $2 tacos & half priced margaritas (seriously, a 12 oz mango/strawberry swirl was $3.50 during happy hour). As for the tacos, they give you the option of ordering it with crispy shell, flour tortilla, or the traditional corn tortilla and with lettuce and cheese or "Mexican style" with cilantro and onions. I got the crunchy tacos (absolutely delicious crispy shell) with the lettuce and cheese, and got one of carne asade, barbacoa, and piccadillo. The piccadillo was definitely my favorite, rich ground beef and full of flavor. The carne asada was my least favorite, but it was a bit on the cool side by the time I got to it and cool steak isn't so delicious. I'll have to eat that one first next time! Our server, I believe her name was Chelsea? (Super sorry I forgot the name, I left my copy of the receipt and I suck at names), but this girl was AWESOME. ALWAYS refreshing chips, replacing water, and making sure we had enough margaritas. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. What set her so far apart from every server I have ever had is that this girl SUCCESSFULLY, split my moving coworkers bill amongst the five of us who came to celebrate. Seriously. This girl was able to split our coworkers order 5 ways so that we could each chip in and treat our coworker. Most waiters cringe when you even ask to split the bill evenly! Give this girl a RAISE! Also, location is perfect. Right on 190, but set back enough from the road that you aren't drowned out by traffic. SUPER cool covered outdoor patio, and they could even pull up the "garage doors" of the restaurant to let the lovely spring air in. We will definitely be back!!!! read more

One star is generous. Few employees are wearing masks and of those who are, not covering mouth and nose or hanging off of one ear. Tables of greater than 10 people sitting together further indicate a lack of concern for the safety of the patrons. A roach crawled across the bar while I waited for my takeout. When I pointed the roach out to the bartender, he nonchalantly smashed it with the napkin holder and kept making drinks. Didn't say a word about it. My 11 year old wanted to celebrate his birthday here, specifically to wear the hat and have the staff sing Happy Birthday. We went for lunch. The restaurant was pretty empty. When my husband told the waitress it was my son's birthday she didn't respond. After we finished eating she brought over a sombrero and what I thought was ice cream. No singing and the pseudo ice cream was a bowl full of whip cream in a stale taco salad shell. My son was so upset. If you work in the food service industry you should recognize the impact your attitude has on others. We won't be returning. Excellent Mexican food w/ fast & friendly servers. The chips are warm & at your table in a flash. The queso blanco is the first thing on my mind. Their salsa is good enough to drink. Flavorful without being too spicy. I tried to take pictures of everything but got distracted by the dessert so that tells you it was pretty good. We got the brownie w/ icecream. Bottom line- solid choice for mexican. Fresh & fast. Also, worth mentioning is they have lots of nice outdoor seating available w/ heaters going when the temperatures are chilly. read more

Mexican food is my absolutely favorite, so I'm always on the lookout. I pretty much love La Carreta on 190 in Covington. It is spacious, clean, warm, nice decor, booths and tables, has a nice outdoor patio, service is timely and friendly, and the food I've had so far is perfectly fine. HUGE for me at a Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa. Swear, I could live on those alone. The chips here are great - thin, crispy, and seem to be fresh. I don't know whether they make them there or not -- and I don't really care. My two favorite things to eat so far are: 1. the Monterey Fajitas - they have a little more flavor and seem to be more tender than most fajitas I've had; and 2. the barbacoa tacos. Spicy shredded beef. Very much recommend. I've knocked one star off because the salsa does not contain any bits and pieces of onion, jalapeno or cilantro. So, I always have to ask for a side of pico de gallo to make it right -- and then they charge for it, but oh well. Once I mix in the pico, it is awesome! read more

We had a variety of items...tacos, enchiladas, rice, beans, tamales, etc. But the flavor just was not quite as good as we were expecting (or had at another restaurant). I stopped in here for the first time for a late lunch, coincidentally, on a Tuesday and I was seated right away even though it was advertised as $2 Tacos on Tuesdays. The chips were good and I enjoyed them while I waited. I ordered the Mexican Tacos which comes with 2 and I chose the Barbacoa. The Barbacoa was the driest Barbacoa I've ever been served. Since there wasn't much else on the Taco, it was drier than it should have been. I would never order the Barbacoa or the Mexican Tacos again which were super expensive to me, for what I got, especially, since I mistakenly thought I was getting those pitiful Tacos for $2 since the waiter did not bother to explain the special even though I did, in fact, order Tacos on a Tuesday. I know I should not have assumed since everytime I do, I get bit. I would try this place again since the chips alone were so good, but I can't imagine me wanting to try the Tacos anytime soon. read more

ZERO STARS!!! 1st time here and last time. The food does NOT look like pictures at all. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or MONEY HERE. Big issues: food was terrible tasting and wait staff was given tables on opposite sides of restaurant to serve, so it was VERY HARD to get any "service". We started by ordering queso and chips. He brought queso out but no plates or even silverware to serve the cheese. When we asked three times, he brought out VERY SMALL bowls like for dipping. I then got up myself and asked a cleaning person for plates. By the time we got plates (20 mins later) we need chips and that was a big deal to get. We ordered fajitas for 2 and an extra order (basically 3 orders). We are from Texas and know fajitas. This place sold us a plate of OVER GRILLED ONIONS AND ANY MEAT that was on there WAS BLACK as well...so we couldnt figure out until it was too late that there was barely any meat and a HUGE PILE OF OVER GRILLED ONION. The few pieces of meat that was was on the platter was super tough and NOT ONE OUNCE OF SEASONING...NOT EVEN SALT. It was absolutely crazy. The tortillas are tasteless, fake tortillas. And the weird "orange" refried beans tasted very spoiled. This is NOT a mexican restaurant, its a disaster. If you like to never have a waiter or pay alot of money for VERY LITTLE meat AND a pile of burnt onions, then this is your place! We will never be back! read more

Really wish I had read reviews before we stopped here. We are on a road trip from Atlanta to Texas and decided to stop at la carreta with our dog sitting outside. There are no heating elements available, the fireplace did not work. We ordered the 2 for $22 fajitas with steak. The soft tortillas we received were hard as a rock, they tasted as if they sat under a heat lamp for too long. The rice had a strange taste to it, almost like plastic. I kept smelling it because something seemed off. The "fajita" platter came with about 5 whole onions and 1 steak, if i were sharing with my husband he would have been pissed. Overall I will definitely suggest to avoid this place. Customer service was great but the food was awful. read more

The Burrito Wrap: Dry chicken and bland rice in a tortilla with cheese and avocado slices. Place under a heat lamp, wait 10 minutes, and serve. Chips and Salsa: An enormous pile of thin chips with a generous helping of salt. Salsa was mild, overly processed and slightly sweet. The Service: Excellent. The waitress was prompt, accommodating and friendly. The Atmosphere: Great. Large flatscreen TVs had both soccer and motorcycle racing on display. Bottom line: A nice venue with lousy food. Haven't been to La Carreta's in over 4 years. Excited and starving we asked the hostess to sit us outside, we wanted to feel the warm Louisiana November breeze. As soon as we sat down, chips and salsa were served, the waiter took our drink order, came back and took our order. I ordered Beef Fajitas and my mother ordered the Flautas. My Beef Fajitas were more "onion" Fajitas than anything else, there was maybe 2 or 3 pieces of Beef the rest was onions. The atmosphere was nice but the loud Mexican music was unbearable. Over the July 4th weekend some friends and I decided to take a trip to the north shore and go tubing. After spending 4+ hours on the river we were all hungry and decided to stop at La Carreta. The restaurant looks pretty new. The interior is clean and well designed with normal ambient noise. With a group of 11 people we were seated quickly and our server did an excellent job of keeping track of things and making sure were were taken care of. The menu is your typical Tex-mex fare. The drinks menu looked rather decent although I wasn't feeling it after all that time in the sun. We had what seemed to be never ending bowls of chips and some great restaurant style salsa. For my entree I ordered chicken fajitas. It came as a side plate with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, etc., a very large pile of chicken and onion fajita on a hot iron skillet, and a foil pack of tortillas. Here's where the meal kind of fell apart. For that giant pile of chicken and peppers I got a total of three small flour tortillas. There was no way you could possibly eat the giant serving with that few tortillas. I wound up taking a huge amount of food home. Overall not bad, I'd eat there again. I just wonder what the cook is thinking serving that much chicken and peppers. read more

We asked for a refill and the guy said he can only give us a to go cup, trying to push us out. Food was okay, the manager heard our complaints and hopefully the waiter gets disciplined. Stepping their game back up! Okay, so probably about 3 years ago was the last time I came here because the food went downhill fast from being my absolute favorite, BUT was craving Mexican a few weeks ago and called in an order to go. OMG. The Salsa was on point, not too hot, like it had been previously, if it's too mild you can spice it up to your liking (which I prefer! You can put the heat in but you can't take the heat out!) White Cheese Queso was ahhhmazing, enchiladas were delish, Mexican Rice = perfection, and the Black Refried Beans topped with Cojita Cheese were awesome( you have to specify you want REFRIED BLACK BEANS or they will give you the Orange Refried Pinto Beans, which I'm sure some people like) it's a prefrerence thing with that, but I did not care for the pinto beans. Ohhhh and the Churros & Fried Ice Cream, JUST DO IT. Sooo excited my favorite Mexican place is back to being bomb! Guessing they're under new management? Idk. But definitely back to normal, been back several times in the past month! Back to being consistent, yayyy! TIP: If you do place an order TO-GO, and you get crunchy hard tacos, have them not put it together, otherwise they tend to get a bit soggy.
