I got sick after eating brunch on Mother's Day. The environment is stunning. The Garden room was lovely. However, the food was underwhelming! All of the food was lukewarm. The Wagu Burger was dried out. There were tons of breads, but not enough variety of main course options. The brunch was heavily overpriced for what was offered. One could get a better meal @ IHOP!!! Good - Steak was cooked perfectly Bad - We weren't seated till nearly 7:30 for our 7:00 reservation. - Wine didn't arrive till ~10 minutes after ordering - The maple-glazed bacon was more of a Chili's sizzling fajita gimmick than tasty appetizer. The ratio of fat to protein in the bacon strips was very heavy on the fat side...70 or 80% - Slow...our appetizer arrived 15 minutes after ordering (not terrible) but despite ordering the appetizer and mains at the same time, we waited 15 minutes after the appetizer had been cleared for our mains...45 minutes after we ordered. - My water was low for most of the dinner, and bone dry for the last 20 minutes and the first time it was refilled was when we asked for the check. We were never asked if we wanted more wine, despite emptying our glasses ~30 minutes in. - No surprise and delight for our anniversary. We were married at La Caille and celebrating our 16th anniversary and both the hostess and server knew. So this was our third time being in La Calle, twice for a dinner date with my husband and this time to celebrate our son's birthday. Every time, I was lured by La Calle's beautiful grounds and a promise of enchantment, and hope that whatever was "wrong" last time was just a fluke.. and every time I left disappointed. To break it down: 1. Grounds/ambiance: the grounds ARE beautiful. We have been here twice in the winter and once in June, and in the summer got to see the peacocks, the swans, ducks and the beautiful grounds against a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Inside, however, the restaurant feels stuffy and outdated. The dried flowers don't help. It needs a serious update on its interior. There are ways to keep the "French chateau" look and still be classy and modern. This isn't it. 2. The food: although a bit limited in range (for example no fish dish on the entree menu at all) in general the food is of good quality, but I do think it's ridiculously overpriced. Entrees range from $50-$300. One of the dishes we ordered was $100 Wagyu steak. Although tender, I found it to be over salted. 3. The service: this is where my most serious gripe is. For a restaurant that has a $300/entre on the menu, and the cheapest bottle of wine is around $100, I expect service to match that perceived quality. Although the staff are very nice, they seem to lack proper training: parts of our order were forgotten, the "complimentary dish from the chef" was served only to part of our party, 5 of the 6 people although it was clear there were 6 of us; then we were asking/reminding staff about missing utensils; additionally, although I discreetly asked the waitress to make the experience extra special for my son's birthday when we just got there, I had to remind her to do something special for the dessert part only to be told in full voice "sorry we don't do candles" (although the did put a tea light candle when they did bring out the dessert); and most shockingly, the waiter spilled some ice as he was refilling our water and preceded to collect the ice from the table and just put it back into the pitcher... and this was just tonight! I didn't write a review the last two times, really hoping that maybe we came on an off night and wanted to like this place (due to its cool grounds and proximity to our house) but three times seems more like the rule rather than exception. There are other restaurants where I can have an "enchanting meal" and love every minute of it! Sorry La Calle, I don't think we'll be coming back! read more

La Caille is deceptively huge. And even more beautiful than I thought it would be. The entrance was initially confusing for me. The entrance gate is so tiny you second guess if that's where you're to enter (you are). You'll follow an adorable brick road until you reach the fairy tale cottage that is La Caille. They do completely valet parking so make sure your car is up to the task (mine wasn't), and though it's free - always bring a few bucks to tip. I was at La Caille for a wedding, and was immediately enthralled with the set up, as well as the adorable french hens I saw as we walked in. And then the peacocks. And the 4 baby peacocks. And the vineyard. We moved from one area to another throughout the evening. We first started on the North side of the building outside for the ceremony. Here I explored the immediate vicinity, taking necessary photos. It was a perfect day. From there, we moved up towards the back of the building where there is a little water pool, gorgeous outdoor seating, and the vineyard. And eventually ended in their big greenhouse space. My friend and I started heading toward a bathroom, and we went inside to find it. Instead of actually looking for it, we got very distracted by the intricacies and set up of the inside of La Caille. We instead went up (and down) a spiral, french picturesque brick stair case where string lights adorned the ceiling. Here we made it to the top of La Caille - a fairly unused room (from the looks of it) with an upside-down-ship ceiling (it seriously looked exactly like a ship turned upside down). My one downside of my visit: with how gorgeous and nice and expensive this place is, I was a little shocked to smell the atmosphere... a distinct scent of cat urine. I'm confused by this. Extremely confused. From there, our night went to the greenhouse event space, and oh my lord how gorgeous. This space is huge, and it's full of hundreds of beautiful plants and trees, with elegantly strung lights for a classy feel. In comes the dinner part of the evening. I told my server immediately that I was of the plant-based variety. Straight up vegan. I know that they have no immediate options on the menu, but with previous conversations with employees, I have been told that the chefs at La Caille are amazing enough to work with many dietary restrictions at a moments notice. And they came through. My menu was a surprise to me with each of the three courses, and I was excited for each of them. The first course was a side salad with the best house made ranch I think I've had. The salad was simple, but the lettuce was fresh, looked local, and made me happy. The main course was risotto. I've found that more expensive, high class restaurants have risotto as their vegetarian/vegan alternative, and so I was not surprised when one was set down in front of me. What I was surprised about, however, was just how amazing, flavor-bursting, and savory this mushroom risotto was. The third and final course, dessert, was a fresh mango sorbet and I was crying with how amazing it was. Never have I had a more fresh tasting frozen treat, and this one was everything for me. I also made sure to have a glass of their house red wine to cherry-top the evening. Perfection. La Caille is gorgeous in it's grounds, it's set up, and their beautiful Greenhouse event space. I loved my time here, but I cannot see it being a common visit for me...or even a visit within the next 5 years. I don't know how much variety there would be with future visits for vegan options. And there's always the price. La Caille is a gem of Utah to be sure, I'm just not fancy-pants enough to drop the amount of money for a dinner for two (and still go home a little hungry). Shawn, Stephanie, Emily, Eli, and Angela, the servers/valet, and entire staff made the night more beautiful and magical than we could have ever fathomed. Stephanie went above and beyond in every way in planning and working so closely with the family to match our vision at every step. Emily also was so involved and communicating with the family. We went here for brunch and our experience was fantastic. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, the Wild Mushroom Omelet, and the French Toast. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. One recommendation would be to add a Vegan brunch item and maybe a GF option. That would really be a great option for people with food restrictions. 15 years ago, when I was finishing High School, La Caille had the reputation of being the fanciest restaurant in Utah. They came and did a demonstration of fine dining etiquette in our school, complete with an explanation of the process to carefully clean crumbs from the table without disturbing the cadence of the evening. Finally, we had the opportunity to give it a spin for our anniversary. Sadly, the experience didn't live up to the reputation it developed back in the day. There were some really good parts, the Disneyland-esque ambiance and service, but there were more problems than high points. One was the lobster in both the bisque and my wife's entree, it was clearly overcooked making it tough and chewy. Another issue that is, in my mind, unforgivable was that my risotto was much too salty to eat more than a bite or two. The duck breast that was the center piece of my dish was indeed very good - perhaps the best I have ever had, but the thigh was badly overcooked, and the presentation on a flat wood board resulted in the bleed out of the meat running onto our nice white table cloth. In terms of value, the entire experience was dramatically overpriced. For the cost (altogether $300 for the two of us) I certainly expect error-free food and perhaps white glove level service. I found my mind wandering to other occasions where, for much less, the experience was so much better. The now closed forage for example, or a white glove fine french dining experience I had in Europe for a fraction of the price- or even the lobster roll at our local Red Lobster. read more

A beautiful, beyond stunning, property that has been completely let down by the food. I'd call what this place does to cuisine a crime. My lobster bisque was served luke warm and tasted like it was a bit stale. The Foie gras was supposed to be tourchon style but was served warm without any toast points or anything to eat it with. It certainly wasn't something made in house. Had a very metallic aftertaste. When I ordered my filet, medium rare, with bernaise sauce, what arrived was the massacre to end all massacres. It was a badly butchered, even worse cooked (way over) filet served with burned and over salted Pom frites. The bernaise and filet were cold. When I complained, I was told that bernaise sauce in the restaurant is always served cold so that it doesn't 'separate'. Wtf?!? Yep. Apparently the mass of nasty, refrigerated, bernaise that was slopped on top of and on the side of my ruined filet is the expected preparation. I started to feel sorry for our waiter Malin at this point. When I pointed out the cook on the steak and that it was cold, he offered to have it heated. Huh? Heated? Really... That's going to fix my cold charcoal cow? I have upgraded my review to two stars after the owner wrote back some scathing comments about my sister in law which turned out to be very funny even if radically ill willed. Maybe once this restaurant shuts down, he can take up stand up comedy since the food is truly horrible. read more

If I'm being honest, it's a solid 3.5 stars. The experience was worth it. I recommend going once for the outside pictures and because it does feel when you that you're in another country. Simply put, you're paying for the place. The food isn't that incredibly different from other fine dining's. Both the lamb and the duck we ordered (though tasty), were raw and not amazing. The waitress later mentioned to me they kitchen cooks things medium rare/rare as standard. Usually a waitress should ask you how you want your meat cooked before ha d so that was surprising. (They did end up cooking my last pieces to perfection and the last bites were wonderful!. Then the charcuterie board and the fondue once again were good, but for the price i have had better in other restaurants, (more quantity, more variety, and more flavorful cheeses and meats). The waitress was great and helpful where she could, and truthfully the one thing we ALL loved was my mocktail which was made by her and was delicious. Again the special salad and the lobster bisque lacked umf, my wide enjoyed her salad but nobody else did. Maybe their steaks or the fish options are better bet. Best wishes! read more

Visiting Utah for the weekend, grandma booked a reservation for Sunday brunch. Beautiful grounds, great well mannered waiters and hosts. Food was great, no complaints at all. We had a lovely experience here with my grandparents. My sister has food intolerances and they were flexible with accommodating her. They mentioned they are going to have an elevator put in, due to having seating upstairs only. However, they had an alternate option for our party as one person couldn't walk up stairs easily. We were so excited for a rare experience on Valentine's Day. The setting was beautiful of course. However, the food... What the heck? For a $500 check, are you kidding me? We knew the price before we walked in and expected something really special. However, for that price every course should taste 'more-ish' - you know? Your taste buds should burst with excitement and yum! But, this time... nope! This menu was very bland and forgettable. Maybe things are better when they're not serving up a "special holiday feast"? Special is not what we experienced. I want to believe it's not this way all the time and people are just being duped. ugh. The artichoke was like eating bamboo. We couldn't get it down. Were we actually supposed to eat that? I could only eat the topping because the artichoke was so tough you could not swallow it. I had a ball of fiber to chew for a good five minutes... it would have been rude to spit it out onto the plate. The salad had no flavor, barely any dressing and was just plain boring. The "ribeye" steak was really a cut of prime rib. It looked nothing like a ribeye. I ordered medium and it was bright red. My husband asked for med-rare and it looked like it just came out of the package. Worst? The meat had no flavor and was not tender - at all. Maybe a little salt would be nice, eh? The tuna dish... yikes, no contrast in terms of texture or flavor. You had a nice plating, but the dish was mush. Both avocado and raw tuna (mush) goes well together? I won't go on, but honestly, we've eaten a fancy dinners many times on special occasions (Tuscany, Stein Eriksen Lodge, Log Haven, etc.), almost always each dish would leave you wanting more! Each of those meals were also a LOT less money. For a $500 check, the food really should be more-ish, don't you agree? This food just left us feeling really ripped off. I don't mean to be rude in any way, but we were just really let down. The Chef clearly trained in beautiful plating - it was beautiful and fancy, but, is someone tasting the food? The best item on the table was the bread and butter. Seriously - No joke. We saw a bunch of young adults on the table next to us in shock over the price for the V-Day meal when they sat down. They hadn't received the first course and I was really tempted tell them to leave. I felt bad they might be about to dump rent money on that meal and it's not even close to worth it. La Caille was hands down one of the best places to eat in Utah. The beautiful scenery and eclectic decor made for an amazing and enjoyable night. We had the Thanksgiving meal which included salmon, turkey, ham, and prime rib. That plus the sides, salad, bread , complimentary turkey tamale appetizer AND four specialty desserts was well worth the cost of enjoying this fine dining. Furthermore, our cocktails were perfectly made! The best part of our dining experience, though, was the attention to customer service by our waiter, Michael. He even got creative with stacking our platter onto a pizza dish holder since our table was too small to fit the giant platter of food and our plates at the same time. My husband and I visited for my birthday a few months ago, and I have been meaning to leave this review... The grounds of this place are beautiful and unique. I would love to visit them again. The restaurant itself, however, has a confusing concept. I am not sure what they are trying to accomplish. I am far from a food snob, but I have certain expectations when a place advertises itself as "upscale" French dining and charges upscale prices. The place just seems like an attempt at fine dining from someone who has never been to a fine dining establishment. The wait staff is in polo shirts as though we are at Chili's. One of our appetizers, the bacon, was served on a clothesline with clothespins and scissors, which is something I would expect at a brewery restaurant, but not an "upscale" French restaurant. My husband also got food poisoning, and we are assuming it was from the lobster bisque because it is the only thing that I did not also eat. What really turned us off from the entire experience is that they seated us in a room with what seemed to be a rehearsal dinner happening. The party was loud, and they were walking around the room socializing while we were trying to have a nice dinner. Typically, when I have booked large party dining, the restaurant has required a private room to avoid this. It was very uncomfortable. I now regret not asking to move, but we kept thinking they were almost done and didn't want to bother our wait staff. I had high hopes and I wish we had a better experience. read more

Chose this place for my birthday celebration on my friend's recommendation. It's definitely an upscale and fancy French restaurant but it's worth the price. Decor is classic and romantic. They have two peacocks roaming around in the patio and beautiful and floral view perfect for photo taking. Food is well prepared and served. They offered a small chocolate cake with a little pyro show for birthday celebration. As for food, to start, I had lobster bisque, very rich flavor. We had roasted fillet mignon and Bouillabaisse for entrees. For dessert, their chocolate cake is awesome. We also had strawberry smoothie and raspberry lemonade for non-alcoholic drinks. I have been to La Caille few times now. I was very satisfied prior to today. The menu prices had been increased which I expected due to inflation. However, the food portion and quality was mediocre at best. I had the Wagyu burger and my wife ordered the omelette. I asked for the burger to be medium but it was way over cooked. My wife's omelette was also not worth the price. My friends ordered the egg Benedict and toast. The ham was very dry and chewy in egg Benedict. My wife's friend had orders toast and she was given bread pudding. To be honest the service was very good. It was the food price and food quality that left us with a bad taste. The quantity of food also seemed to had gone down. When I had previously been to La Caille I had plenty of good quality food. Today was not that day. Hopefully this is not the sign of things to come regarding the future of La Caille. read more

My wife and I were married Sunday morning in Oregon, two days prior to our visit. She found the website for La Caille while searching for French restaurants, partly to embrace her new French last name and partly to find us a wonderful first-dining experience as a married couple. The first thing she noticed were the colors and how they were reminiscent of pictures I had shown of where my great-grandmother was from in the South of France. Everyone was all heart-felt smiles and very welcoming. My wife just pointed out to me how quickly she jumped at the chance to sit out in the rear patio area, I had almost forgot. The service we received was nothing short of fantastic. Quick, courteous, and knowledgeable, Malin made what was already a wonderful evening into something more. It's what we always hope for when dining out, but especially on our honeymoon. I'm having a difficult time even sharing the credit for the night with anyone else, as he was the only other person we really interacted with. To be fair, I should say that the myriad of people performing their duties around us were all equally adept. The cocktails were delicious and expertly crafted. Everything from the linens to the silverware, perfectly clean and in their proper place. And the food...I will get to the food in a moment, but Malin was our key to it all. Thank you for your amazing service. You really made our night perfect. The food. As Tolkien said, "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." This sentiment sums up how I was feeling while fork-to-plate in the middle of our meal. There is something magical that washes over me whilst enjoying fabulous food. An idealism, a yearning for some utopian fantasy of world peace, equality for every being, and poetry worthy meals that arnot reserved for special occasion. This was the proof of that. Everything from The Charcuterie Board, to the amuse bouche, the fillet mignon to the risotto, was breathtaking. The bread service with its black lava sea salt and whipped butter was the moment where my wife and I looked at each other across the table and shared a smile. A non-verbal acknowledgement of what we knew was to come; beautiful food. At one point, my wife was so taken by the exquisite risotto that she looked up, face a mix of anger and elation, and swore under her breath. I have been known to get angry at my food (in the best possible way) but this was the first time I had seen her react in kind. It's the feeling of "where has this been all my life," mixed with shock at the deliciousness. It wasn't until dessert that my amusement at her wore off and we shared the "angry at the food" moment. To start dessert off, Malin brought us pots de creme with "congratulations" written beautifully on the plate in chocolate. I started to tear up a little at that, overwhelmed by the reminder of where I was and why I was there. Our first date, our first trip, our first meal as husband and wife. But then the crème brûlée... This is what people mean when they talk about the coup de grâce or the pièce de résistance. I would seriously consider getting on a plane, traveling several hours, just to have it again. The perfect texture of the lavender short-bread cookie, mixed with the creme and a fresh raspberry was (we both agree emphatically) the single best bite of the evening. Perhaps, the best we've experienced together, period. I can go on and on forever potentially, about every nuance, every moment. As long winded as this already is, I'll leave it there. I finally visited this place for the first time after all these years. This used to be the gold standard in fine dinning for Utah, but over the last decade or two there are many more options in town. I was a bit disappointed, quite frankly. I had heard that the quality had been slipping and they were resting on their laurels of glory years past, and I think that may be an accurate assessment. First off, the place IS gorgeous. And the fact that a couple scenes from Dumb and Dumber were filmed here just makes it that much more of a historical landmark. The food was good, but just short of great, and considering their reputation and standing, I was expecting great. Granted, it is still good enough to be classified as truly fine dining, and nowhere near the ballpark of Outback Steakhouse or Chili's, but when I go in expecting the BEST restaurant in Utah, as their reputation expounds, I came away disappointed it was just 'average' fine dining. I was also let down by the service. Nothing against our servers, they were well meaning and gave an acceptable effort, but there seemed to be a lack of training, which I place on the shoulders of management. A place like this ought to have professional wait staff, not the same kids that sling plates as a summer job at the aforementioned Outback. We brought a very special 1er Cru Burgundy that I had been cellaring since a trip to France years ago and shuddered with anxiety as she fumbled to open it properly, fearful she would destroy an irreplaceable bottle. Then she brings stemless glasses to the table. If you don't know what is severely wrong with this picture, I'd waste my time trying to explain it to you. Thankfully, she did go back and fetch the appropriate stemware upon my request, so I know they HAVE the proper equipment to serve wine, it's just a matter of basic training. MANAGERS, PLEASE!!!! The ambiance is 5 star. My husband proposed to me here so it had a special place in our hearts. The Christmas decor in the foyer were not as lovely as they were 3 years ago. But what got me the most was the service. Our sever Madison really just did not care. We ordered coke which didn't come until after the appetizers. After that she took the empty glass and never brought another refilled until after the 1st course was served. This is a fancy restaurant. She didn't make an effort to put the napkin on my lap or clean the breadcrumbs off the table after bread was served before the main course. When she brought the palette cleanser she just set it on the table without explaining what it was. She took my bread basket without asking if I wanted to take it home. We went there to celebrate and she didn't even give us ice cream or some small thing saying "Happy Anniversary." Gustavo who prepared my Blueberry Cobbler was great and gave me more service than her. This is a fine dining restaurant and the servers should be trained. We spent $300 on dinner for 2 which is fine but I expect an exceptional experience. Food - charcuterie excellent, there was a cheese called Alp Blossom, which was like spring in your mouth, lobster bisque - BEST I've ever had, Chilean sea bass -- I've had much better fish, overcooked & over salted. I've been at La Caille twice - once for dinner and again last night for "Lights on La Caille." I have to start with how much I LOVE the grounds. It is spectacular!! Feels like you're walking into a fairy tale. Peacocks roam the grounds and sit in the trees. The restaurant feels like an old castle with a grand spiral staircase and strange paintings on the wall. I truly enjoyed walking around and taking in the atmosphere. It's worth the trip for that alone. The food was delicious. We ordered the lobster bisque, which was amazing, and beet salad to start. For entrees, we ordered the filet mignon and rack of lamb. The steak was super tender and bigger than I expected (but not an obnoxious portion). I may just not like lamb (I've only had it alone and not in a gyro a handful of times), but I tried a bite of my husband's, and did not like it. Dessert we had creme brûlée, which was great. I tried the fall october cocktail - which was a butternut squash concoction - and it was pretty good. The only downside - and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 - was the price. $58 for a steak is pretty steep. The waiter did mention they have wine tasting by appointment, and I *believe* he said it was only $10. That sounds like an awesome way to go. Or maybe for brunch when the weather gets warmer. The patio would be an awesome place to spend an afternoon. I went last night to their "Lights on La Caille" event, where for $5 you can walk around the grounds, have cookies/hot chocolate and kids can meet a super authentic-looking Santa. Wine and beer was also served at the bar. Such a fun and awesome night. Highly recommend it! Make sure you keep an eye out in October, because those tickets go FAST! read more

La Caille is a special occasion kind of place. Usually for me, high prices usually get dinged on general principle alone ... and La Caille is the most expensive place I've been to in the state. Unlike others, La Calle is worth every penny. Or, should I say, every C-Note. La Caille is an EXPERIENCE that starts at the front gate. Your car will bounce up the cobblestone brick road past ponds and trees, deer and peacocks. After a half-mile amble, the valet will take your car, you'll go up a staircase to the dining area. You'll have more courses than you've ever had this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Everything is great. There are more water choices than you probably ever had to make. The multigrain bread is amazing, and goes perfectly with the French butter with black lava sea salt. Then you'll get a complimentary Amuse-Bouche before the appetizer. It translates from the French as "mouth amuser" ... essentially it's a taste of a few things. The chef changes it up, but for us it was a foie gras shooter and a salmon mixture in a cone. I wish I remembered the fancy French name of it! As for appetizers, the risotto -- with Chanterelle mushrooms and shaved truffles -- was amazing. My wife ordered the French Onion soup -- which includes Short-Rib, along with Gruyere and Emmental Cheese -- was superb (warning, it's REAL filling). Unlike your run-of-the-mill FO Soup with hard-to-break-apart cheese, this is more soft and smooth ... much like a fondue. The cheese flavor is sharp, buttery, earthy, and somewhat nutty. In other words, YUM! I ordered their Lobster Bisque, which was much lighter than the French Onion but just as good. As you'd expect, you can taste the quality and freshness of the Maine lobster. It goes with a lovely side of a lightly toasted brioche with crême fraîche and American caviar on top. And the wonderfulness continued with the entrees. My wife's Lemon Thyme Brined Chicken is definitely on my future visit to-do list. The natural jus is plate-licking great, with flavors of sweetness and savory richness that are one-of-a-kind. The chicken was SO tender and succulent, with the Anson Mills polenta, grilled asparagus, and Spanish chorizo, all glazed in the goodness. My Bouillabaisse was also masterful. If you love a variety of shellfish, it's the way to go: lobster, shrimp, scallops, halibut, clams, Mediterranean mussels, all drowning in a light, decadent Rouille sauce. It's almost impossible to choose from all the desserts, so I went with the cinnamony goodness of the Bananas Foster. Oh, and did I mention they light and pour the flaming caramel rum sauce at the table? Oh yeah, man, it's a show. It was rich, with a perfectly creamy ice cream and the perfect, subtle rum flavor. That wasn't the end of the fire show, as our dinner was also a birthday celebration. They brought a complementary chocolate mousse with a sparkling roman candle in the middle. It was quite the display, and the mousse was that rich goodness you want to savor for hours. And then they brought the best macaroons I've ever had. La Caille, are you TRYING to put me in a sugar coma? It was a wonderful evening, and I can't wait to go back! read more

La Caille is a unique gem that we are so lucky to have in Utah. Their property is gorgeous, the staff are very devoted, and the food is delicious. While it may be expensive for the quantity of the food, the price makes sense when you consider the fact that the meal is intended to be an experience and the grounds and lush gardens are part of that experience. We love coming here for special occasions and even date nights, although brunch is our favorite time to dine. read more

My wife and I decided to try La Caille for Christmas Eve and made the reservation many weeks in advance. The menu offering was a prix fixe for $160 a head excluding wine and service. When we arrived, we saw that a wine pairing was also being offered for an additional $55 per person and decided to go with this too and make the evening a memorable one. We selected our menu choices and very soon the first course came out. We waited for the wine pairing before starting the course, but about 5 minutes elapsed and there was no sign of the wine. One of the servers came by to fill our water glasses and I politely asked her if she would also be bringing the wine. She, unfortunately, had no idea but said that she would look into it for us. Soon after, she brought back two glasses of white wine. I asked her what wine we were being offered, curious to know about the wine chosen for the first course pairing. She again admitted that she had no idea, but endeavored to find out. She came back a couple of minutes later and informed us that it was a Sauvignon blanc. We were clearly not going to find out what winery or even country it was from, and all of this was owing to the fact that our waiter was conspicuously absent ever since taking our order. The food was good, as we would have expected from a restaurant at this price point, but so far the service as definitely lacking. A soup course came out next and, once again, no wine arrived. We waited several minutes and then, by chance, our waiter wandered by. I flagged him down and asked him about the second course wine pairing. He told me there was no pairing with the second course and that we would only be getting three glasses of wine with the 5 course meal. I said to him that this did not meet the definition of a pairing, in my opinion, and that it might have been nice to have been informed of this fact when we ordered the pairing. He said nothing, but said that he would bring the rose out early (which was going to be delivered with the salad course). I had noticed that a bread basket had been delivered to most other tables and was hoping to have had some bread with the soup course. When the waiter came back with the two glasses of rose, he was clutching a bread basket so I thought better late than never. He put down the glasses of rose and then started to walk way. I called him back and asked him if the bread basket was for us. He replied that it wasn't and asked "did you not receive one?' while staring at the big empty space in the middle of our table. So eventually we got a bread basket, just in time for the arrival of the main course. I had ordered the lamb, while my wife chose the sea bass. Out came the third glass of wine which was a reasonable Cabernet Sauvignon. It paired nicely with my lamb, but was a questionable pairing for the sea bass. Clearly, this was not a wine pairing at all, but simply a pouring of three different mystery wines. The dessert course consisted of a plate of 5 small offerings. We asked our waiter what each of the desserts were and he couldn't tell us. Not only could he not tell us, he had absolutely no interest in trying to find out for us. So we left this restaurant, in which we had high expectations, with a sense of great disappointment. Some simple attention to detail could easily have transformed our experience into the memorable one that we were hoping for. But the quality of our waiter and the general approach to delivering the Christmas Eve experience left a lot to be desired, and the wine pairing was a not very funny joke. The serving staff were all very gracious and were working hard, but our waiter was abysmal. In my opinion, you can't charge $500 for a meal for two and expect this level of service to be acceptable. The restaurant is very pretty and the food was certainly good, but management is asleep at the wheel and so it is hard to imagine a scenario where we would return. read more

We're from Nashville Tennessee and were here 25 years ago for a 25th anniversary and decided to come back for our 50th. We had a minor issue and the staff jumped right on top of it. Shannon and the general manager were especially helpful. The restaurant is awesome and the cottage is over the top, especially the hot tub. The grounds are magnificent with strutting peacocks and swans. Hate to leave but enjoyed our fabulous stay. Thanks again, Shannon. read more
