LA Boilers on O'Neal - Bad experience: Last Saturday, I bought a dozen boiled crabs. After opening the first three crabs, we were not able to eat them because they were either overcooked or the inside black and empty. Checking the remaining crabs, I found another five crabs that were obviously not edible. A couple shells were already cracked. I brought the crabs back to be replaced or refunded. They offered to replace or refund for the crabs that were not opened or cracked since "they couldn't tell if we had already eaten them." They didn't even attempt to look at the pathetic crabs that I was returning. I could see that they were not checking the crabs that they intended to give me as replacements. I was fuming at that point since they didn't want to replace the crabs that they had given me that were already cracked so I asked for a refund instead. Bottom line, I was given a refund of only half of what I originally paid and got to eat none of them. Needless to say, I won't be driving out of my way to visit them again. read more

"Came for crawfish, left happy has a clam". Crawfish season is in full-effect. I came here with my husband, daughter and some family that visited from out-of-town. We ordered heaps of crawfish and some boiled shrimp. For years, I passed this place, but never visited. Now, I am a fan! The place is not super spacious, but there are are some long tables with stool seating for those that want to eat in. Amongst my other favorites were the corn, condiments galore, endless paper towels and potatoes. Customer service was nothing short of stellar and the facility was clean and kept up very well. For those that don't want to get out of the car, a drive-thru is available. We were there during the earlier part of crawfish season and the mud bugs were not as big as I would have wanted them to be. Went here with BF for dinner. One of his co workers had recommended going here for crawfish. We live near by and had not yet been there in the 7 months since moving to BR. Driving by the sign said "HOT Crawfish" and there were several cars in the parking lit, so we decided to give it a try. This place was not what I expected. The outside is new, modern and looks like a sit down diner. The inside we found a bear bones take out kind of operation. There was a cold counter with seafood salads and sides and a hot bar containing shrimp, corn, potatoes and sausage links. A sign on the counter indicated the price for crawfish, shrimp and sides for that day. There was an igloo cooler behind the counter that the counter servers were scooping the boiled crawfish from. There were three tables to sit at inside, a cooler with drinks, and several shelves of condiments and boil mixes for purchase. The entire place smelled like a crawfish boil. We ordered 3#'s boiled crawfish, two drinks and a side of potatoes. Total cost was $18.30. We were given our order packaged to go. read more

Lately, the quality has decreased. Today's crawfish order had tons of heads and random unattached tails and claws. The boiled shrimp were very over cooked. About 1/3 of the shrimp were impossible to separate from the shell and had to be thrown away. In the past, the quality matched the premium prices. Now, it doesn't. read more

Had a serious crawfish fix these past few weeks and knew exactly where to cure it :) I'd tried this place out almost three years ago when visiting town. Wife and family stopped in again this past Saturday evening after attending a festival down the road in Gonzales. Got two pounds crawfish while my wife got her preferred boiled shrimp. It was seasoned perfectly and the potatoes and corn picked up the crab boil only slightly. That's how it's supposed to be, in order to cleanse your palate with bites of each for the next tasty crawdad as you're eating it. The service was outstanding, as it was my previous time there. Didn't catch their names, but a blonde-haired girl took our orders seamlessly while another girl, with dark hair, was on the other register. The crawfish had great flavor and had the just the right amount of spice and were really juicy. They were listed at 4.99 a pound which is reasonable for the early part of the season. A pound of cooked crawfish was currently priced at $4.29 a pound. The 4 ears of corn was fairly priced at $1.99. The size of the crawfish varied from small to large, and we ended ordering four pounds which was enough crawfish to satisfy our craving for the day. It was nice to have the option of eating the crawfish there, so our dwelling unit does not linger with the smell of crawfish boil for days. I would definitely return, I wish they had garlic cloves, but the place is kept clean and there is a sink for washing your hands which really comes in handy. Brought in some friends from California to let them try crawfish for the first time. They loved it as much as we do. The crawfish are always cooked right, have a nice spice and flavor and were a good size compared to most places that you can get them from. However, I refuse to lose my religion by telling a lie, I must confess, La Boilers and the three pounds of crawfish they served me for lunch were amazing! So much so, that I am trying to resist the urge to drive back over there to get some more for the evening. What can I say? On my way to an event last week, I seen so many people outside, some of them looked like my ol' friends that stand in the hot plate line at Tony's too..I never forget a face, so I knew it had to be legit. Once inside, I was very impressed as to how nice, and clean the place was. Also, yes there is more, they have indoor and outdoor seating. The employees were very quick and efficient and didn't hesitate to answer any questions that I had. If you love Tony's and you're just looking for crawfish and shrimp (they do not sell hot plates like Tony's and all of the other endless water creatures on Earth) then stop here and give it a try. they were open this past sunday for the super bowl which is GREAT. they closed at 630 which was also great. my boyfriend and i went to go get crawfish from here around 6. the shrimp also looked huge. it was 5.99 per pound of crawfish. we got 7 pounds. between me and my boyfriend we ate all of the 7 pounds. the crawfish were definately seasoned well. not too hot, but not underseasoned. the crawfish were kind of on the small side but i mean its the beginning of the season. they pealed well also. will for sure come back for my next craving of seafood boiled. read more

Reliable supply. Friendly, helpful service. We always buy our sacks of live crawfish there, which are reliably large... And alive. We just started buying raw shrimp for frying. Very fresh. And we got some boiled crabs to eat during an LSU football game. They were very good. Perfectly seasoned, not too salty, lots of meat. During crawfish season the place is constantly filled with dine-in customers eating boiled crawfish. I haven't had them but see there are a lot of customers who have. I went against my better judgement and decided to stop at this location rather than the O'Neal one. The O'Neal location is excellent. The taste is consistent and perfectly seasoned! I expected to get the same at a carbon copy restaurant... But no, expectations are clearly meant to be shattered. The crawfish had a peculiar taste as though they weren't properly purged. I eat crawfish biweekly during the season, so I was highly disappointed. The 2 stars are for the corn. It was quite tasty! read more

Never Again will I go to L A Boilers! Went yesterday and bought five pounds of crawfish. Wondered why the guy at the window said,"if you don't like them, you can return them." At the time I thought that was an odd statement. Now I know why. After struggling with about three pounds, I finally threw the other two pounds in the garbage. Over 20% were dead, the whole batch was way too salty, under-seasoned, small, overcooked, and just inedible. Some of my family came by, tried one crawfish and immediately reiterated what I already knew. The crowning blow was when I called the store today and when I explained the problem, was told that they were busy yesterday, and when I said, "that's not an excuse," he slammed the phone down in my face.
