Our go to for pastries in Dover. The chef trained in France and it shows in their flaky lamellated pastries. Our favorites are the regular baguette and the eclairs. They have different fancy pastries depending on the day like opera cake, Mille feuille, and tarts. You can follow their Facebook page for updates and the cruffin of the day. Lunch foods like quiches are also served though I haven't tried them. A good amt of Bayhealth hospital employees from next door stop by at lunchtime. A recent addition is outdoor seating. La Baguette was the cutest little French bakery that some friends in Dover brought me to! The bakers were so kind and helpful, answered all of our questions with such patience, and accommodated wonderfully with me being dairy free. I ordered their Breakfast Sandwich on a croissant and it was to die for! The croissant was so fluffy and flaky in all the right places. If I had been hungrier, I definitely would've ordered a second one right then and there haha. We were hosting a baby shower later that day and ordered a Chocolate Mousse cake to have at the party. Needless to say, there were no leftovers! There wasn't much seating inside, but it's a bakery after all, and that's to be expected! This hidden gem is my favorite go to for croissants (plain, almond, chocolate) and their bursting with blueberries blueberry muffins! (Other muffin flavors alternate). (Love the lemon ones too!) I really didn't want to write them a review because more people will know about them and I'll have to fight my way in to purchase all their goodies. It is a shop in the citified section of Dover with mainly street parking. Along with their baked goods they make quiche, salads and some sandwiches. We stopped in Dover on a longer road trip just to stretch our legs after driving for a few hours. La Baguette seemed like the perfect place to grab a snack before getting back on the road. It was fantastic! We got a petite brioche, galette, cupcake, cinnamon roll, salted caramel cruffin, several tartlettes, and, of course, a baguette. Everything was fresh and tasty. My 13 year old, who is a very picky eater, loved it. My 12 year old called his tartlette "exquisite". I do have a few regrets, however. I'm sorry that I didn't have the opportunity to try quiche or some of their other offerings. I'm also sorry that this gem is hours away from my home. Otherwise, I'd come here often. I read about the opening of this establishment's opening in Lewis, so I was really looking forward to visiting. I pop in on a whim Tuesday morning for breakfast. There was a nice crowd, which I took as a good sign. When it was my turn, I ordered the sausage, egg, cheddar cheese, and croissant sandwich. I also ordered the cinnamon roll. The young lady asked my name and I spelled it. I was told to stand behind the two gentleman to pay. Great. I thought they were a bit slow, but no problem. I pay for my meal, where the cinnamon roll was bagged up. I sit at a table waiting for my sandwich. It took quite a while, as I watched them bring orders to other people. Finally, I hear someone call out the name Mabel. Finally, after checking inside and outside of the restaurant, the lady walks up to me to ask about my order and if I am Mabel. Nope, I'm Charlene, but it seems that the sheet she had for Mabel was really for my order. I hand her the sheet the woman gave me with my name. She said she would make my sandwich quickly. So, I wait. I hear someone call for Mabel again, and I ignore it thinking they found Mabel. Particularly since I gave the woman my sheet with my order on it. About 5 minutes later, I hear someone call Charlene. I look up, and instead of bringing me my food, I have to get up to get it and it's being bagged up. To be clear, everyone else in the restaurant who sat down was delivered their food for eating inside. I guess I didn't look like a customer who was worthy to eat in their establishment or something. I will say, the person who handed me my food apologized for the delay and gave me some complimentary bread. OK, let's get to the food, which is the real reason for the 1-star. I ate in the establishment because I wanted freshly prepared food, versus driving back to Millsboro and warming it up. Where do I begin. The sausage was dry and flavorless, the eggs had shells, the cheese was not warmed, and the croissant was just OK. By the way, there is an upcharge for the croissant. I was quite disappointed to have such lousy food that should have been warm. This was my first time going. I was hoping to sample this and possibly make it my go to bread place, when I can't do my treks to go to Wegmans or Whole Foods. I will keep driving, as the cost versus taste really don't align. And, why bother to ask customers for their name if the person is just going to make up a name for the cooks? It's quite offensive, given that Mabel and Charlene sound and look nothing alike. I assume this place will get better in time, as the reviews from Dover are positive. But, it will be some time before I try this place again. read more

It's a cute little bakery on Governors Ave. The people are nice and the service is very good. It has a few tables outside and one table inside if you would like to eat there. Everything is prepared fresh, no frozen food unthawed. Parking can be a challenge, I usually park across the street. A little pricey but worth it! Being from the big city of Wilmington, De, you'd have to bribe me with a lot of money or favors to get me to drive South in beach traffic on a Saturday if I wasn't even going to the beach.... or you could just open the best French Patisserie South of Quebec, West of France and East of New Orleans. Are you kidding me? One of the main reasons we fly to France every other summer is for the pastry and La Baguette does not disappoint. In fact, La Baguette holds up and has a few aces up its sleeve. I have found something too good to be true, yet it is true... and I am going to keep going until I can't get there early enough to get what I want. All of the pastries and breads are authentic and absolutely delicious. The quiches, sandwiches and other offerings are also very very good. Every person I have spoken to working there is so passionate about working there. It is well worth the drive if you want to eat a real croissant. My experience with the people that work there is that they have been nice. It is a very busy place and sometimes the person that starts your order isn't the person that finishes it. When I say it is busy, I mean that the six or eight people behind the counter are all quite busy attending to the task of baking bread and making pastries. Just down the street there is a very cool flea market / farmers market with some very pretty and and sweet deserts made by the Amish. There is nothing "French" about those deserts, but they are quite good and a good value. It is clear from some of the reviews, that some folks walk in La Baguette with expectations that would be better served at this Farmer's Market. If you have been to authentic French Patisseries, then I think you'll instantly get it and you'll be very happy with your pilgrimage to check this place out. I stopped into La Baguette on Monday to see about ordering 12 sandwiches for Saturday, that I would pick up. The girl at the counter said 'yes, we do catering." At that point, a woman 6 feet away who had heard the clerk's response, turned and calls out loudly, "We're not taking any orders, (makes a slashing motion across her throat) We're fully booked that day." before turning back to her work. I felt bad for the girl behind the counter because she looked embarassed by how I was spoken to. I understand a business can be busy, but this woman was rude and offered no courteous apology that they would not be able to accommodate me. I was working in the area and decided to stop in and check out this bakery. I love all pastries and most breads, so this spot was right up my alley. As soon as I walked in, I knew God had sent me here for a reason. The display cases were loaded with all sorts of goodies, along with all different styles of fresh breads. There were two workers handling business. Naturally, when it was my turn to order, I had to ask for some honest recommendations. The young lady behind the counter directed me towards certain croissants and their house specialty which was an apple pie/muffin/pie dessert that looked beautiful. I decided to try all of my favorites instead of going with their specialty items to see just how good this place was compared to some of my other favorite bakeries. The chocolate chip cookie was huge and fresh. Very clean ingredients with all of their pastries which I really appreciated. I also tried the chocolate éclair and a pistachio croissant. Both were light, buttery, and sweet - the perfect combo. As I was checking out, the other woman creating these delicious treats decided to hook me up with some FREE extras! She threw in some cinnamon buns, and fresh ciabatta bread. I could not have been more pleased with my visit to this lovely French bakery. This bakery is so charming and quaint. The people who work there are very friendly and the food is amazing! I ordered a bacon on egg breakfasts sandwich. One time on a croissant and the other on fromage(cheese) bread. Absolutely delicious. Croissant were buttery and the bread was flavorful. My favorite item are the elephant ears. My one star rating comes after the 5 star rating I gave them before, strictly because of what happened last Friday. I went there to buy a sandwich and I tried it for the first time (Le Jambon Beuree) the ham, butter and baby pickles sandwich. I ate there many times, I always had a good impression about them, even tho the staff is pretty rude. Only the owner (I assume that's who she is, the lady with short hair and always wears a hat) is friendly with me when she sees me. Other than that, all the others lack customer service. But what made me change my mind of this place is, what they put on the sandwich last time. It was a short blonde rude girl. I mean, don't get me wrong, I know it's a ham and butter sandwich with pickles, but she put 1 baby pickle on the whole sandwich. What kind of mess is that? One pickle cut in half put on a whole sandwich for 7$? It's outrageous. It did not taste right. It was just ham with bread. Couldn't feel the butter, couldn't taste the pickle...I would never go back there again. It's sad cuz they have other nice sandwiches and stuff. I loved the breakfast that they had one day, it was scrambled eggs with baked sautéed potatoes i think, and it was delicious. They should do that every day not one day a month... but again, the prices for what they are offering are just not right. That sandwich, for the poor service and how poorly it was made, should've cost 4$ maximum. I'm sorry that a place like this is losing customers because of the poor service and because they won't serve the product right. I definitely recommend Bavarian Bakery which is not far from them! Totally different service and big rich sandwiches. They won't just put a slice of pickle on your sandwich. They will make it taste right. And people are very friendly and customer oriented.
