Fancy tapas restaurant. They have full menu as well. It's pricey compared to rest of seville. Dishes are about 6-10 for tapas. Medias are about 16 which is price for most full dishes. Sangria was 5.5 which was my priciest in all of Spain actually. Anyways tried a couple of tapas. The fried baby shrimp was weird. Like 100 fried shrimp around a fish ball. It kinda creeped me out actually but tasted ok? The beef filet was actually really good and would recommend if you come here. Sangria was good too but incredibly weak and mostly ice. read more

Ambience: cozy place with seating outside or in, especially at the bar where you can see these artisans at work. They are truly artists. Food: the tapas; the tapas; the tapas. Did I mention the shrimp with a kimchi sauce which is crispy with a wonderful flavor. The media portion of lamb is generous and really good, too. Oh, and try the chilled gazpacho--don't freeze your hands on the tumbler. Service: friendly, notably at the bar, were you can watch them create these lovely dishes. One of the staff is from Napoli and quite helpful and took good care of us. Overall, I wish I had come here earlier and now I hate to leave Sevilla because I have found my new favorite tapas bar! La Azotea is a great place for tapas in Seville. The presentation of the food is absolutely gorgeous, and the flavors vary all across the board but are rich and bold. My friends and I ordered quite a few to share between the three of us and we left satisfied. The tuna belly and foie gras have great fatty and rich taste. The fish and potato salad is also surprisingly good, though a little mushy. One thing I don't recommend is the chicken salad--it tastes like canned chicken with a few pieces of lettuce. Pass on that one. Overall, good place for tapas. Four stars because it's pretty expensive and in my opinion, Eslava is a better deal. But you should definitely check out La Azotea. We came to this place with very high hopes after all the wonderful reviews. Unfortunately our experience was disappointing and we would not recommend this restaurant. The service unbelievably terrible beyond anything we have ever experienced. We waited for a table standing at the bar prior to being seated and no one took our drink or food order during the entirety of that time. After being seated the waiters forgot to bring us any bread and olives but we just shrugged it off and ordered our food anyway. Our two glasses of wine did not arrive until half way through the appetizer, 15 minutes into the meal. To top it off, our bill arrived and we were charged for the forgotten bread and olives. When we inquired about this after paying, the waiter without a word took our bill and came back with a refund and slapped it down on the table without apology or any sort of comment. The overcharge was not significant but it seemed as if there was distinct discrimination towards us since we were non-Spanish speaking tourists. The food itself was not too bad, we ordered the house made fois gras, shell fish of the day (carabineros prawns) and the filet. Fois gras was mediocre, perhaps the grilled version is better. The prawn with sherry, was delicious and full of flavour but came with a very hefty price tag for one prawn. The filet steak was our favourite and cooked well. Overall, although the food was pretty good nothing was worth the absurdity of the service. read more

Excellent wine options here! Slightly expensive (1 to 2 euro more), but they are really good and they have regional options when you want a red wine, which no other bars offered. I recommend sitting at the bar and ordering only a couple of tapas to start. If you like their food, order more tapas. The tables are only for those ordering the bigger plates. The food is AMAZING and you'll pay 3-5 euro for something that you would pay on average $10 in the US. My husband and I love the food here, but to be honest, only 2/6 was cooked to perfection for us. The wrapped cheese deep fried was unexpectedly delicious; crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The braised beef was delicious!!!! The ceviche was not very flavorful to our taste; and the razor clam was just deep fried with some nuts; it seemed to be lacking a sauce that would bring the dish together. read more

I had to double check that this was the right restaurant because the reviews in no way match the food I ate. It's like a fancy alien heard about food and tried to approximate it. I really wish that I read the reviews of this place before going because I seemed to order all the wrong things. So here is everything you probably should not get. The Caesar salad with salmon? How about 4 uncut leaves with whipped dressing (yes, the consistency of whipped cream) topped with salmon...sashimi? None of this is bad on its own but put together is just bizarre. The tomato/buratta? If you go into it thinking that maybe a basil flavored jello and lemon sorbet with an unripe tomato and buratta you will strongly be mistaken. It is so weird and does not work together at all. The worst of them all the octopus with puréed potatoes. The octopus was rubbery and laying with the most slime looking potatoes you have ever seen. Maybe we just got all the wrong things or maybe you should just steer clear of this place and go with a more traditional tapas place. read more

This restaurant is a must try. Came twice and was very happy both times. Had the freshest clams in wine sauce. It was as if they were prepared on the dock just off the boat. The salads are fresh and innovative with excellent combinations of flavors. Second visit I had the tomates eco consisting of heirloom tomatoes with fresh anchovies. For the main, I had a sword fish "burger" topped off with arugula and a creamy red onion cream sauce that complimented the dish perfectly! The deserts are also very creative. We found this to be a cut above the usual tapas restaurants with some very interesting dishes I have not seen anyplace else - for example pumpkin and Serrano ham ravioli which was superb, the pasta was fatto a mano. I had scallops as a starter which were perfectly done and included the roe. My friend had Pescado de Roca which was simply grilled and served off the bone - she loved it. My wife had the Bacalao which she also loved - media portions are more than adequate for any meal. We were here for lunch and the service was friendly, helpful and prompt. It was not super busy so I can not speak to wait times but they do not take reservations and it can get quite busy, expecially for dinner, but a great find for lunch. read more

Visited La Azotea with very high hopes, especially after all the amazing reviews! We were a little disappointed when we were informed that in order to order off the tapa menu, we'd have to sit at the bar. With a 4 person group we were more willing to have a relaxed, laid back meal (on actual chairs!) so we opted for the table seating. The menu that came with that option, however, was overpriced, and nowhere near as exciting as the tapas menu. The wine was excellent and the slider I ordered was the best piece of beef I've had in Europe, but still not really worth the price. We also ordered the terriyaki beef special of the day, the assorted vegetables, and the goat salad. All were visually very interesting, but not that fresh or flavorful enough to warrant the money spent. La Brunilda still holds a place in my heart for best Tapas, so if you're looking for a cheaper, tastier alternative, I'd go there. read more

Perfection. One of the best restaurants I've been to. Although small, and the wait time at peak hours can get long, it's totally worth it. The owner and staff are hospitable and extremely friendly. We sat at a larger communal table and ordered a bottle of delicious red wine. The tapas were delicious, if I could try every dish I would. The foie gras, and the tartare are a must. By far the best meal we had in Sevilla. My husband, two daughters and I saved this for our last night and were not disappointed. No reservations so we got there shortly after opening and were seated right away. Good thing, as it is a rather small restaurant and got quite crowded. We never felt rushed though. The staff was very accommodating (when we had a language issue with our waitress that even our Spanish-speaking daughter couldn't communicate to her, our waitress apologized and brought over an English speaking co-worker! Wait; we're in YOUR country. WE should be apologizing!) But the language of excellent food is universal. The soy-infused tuna was to die for. Seriously, so good! We had such a wonderful experience there, that our daughter, who is studying in Sevilla, chose La Azotea to celebrate her 21st birthday just a week after the rest of us returned home to Chicago. On a whim I thought I'd call to see if we could have a bottle of the same wine we shared sent to her table that night. Luckily for me, Jeanine, one of the owners (and from California no less), answered the phone! And here's where it gets really good . . . though she explained that she couldn't take a credit card over the phone, she would be delighted to help our daughter celebrate and present her and her friends with the wine. She told me to send her an email and she would answer with her banking info for me to make a transfer. She didn't know me from Adam but trusted that I would follow through! A home away from home; the busy servers and bartenders made us feel comfortable as soon as we stepped into La Azotea! Despite our poor Spanish and the servers limited English, we were able to put our names on the waiting list for this very popular restaurant. One of the servers, noticing our attempt to have drinks at the crowded bar, invited us to stand at a makeshift cocktail table, busing our drinks and brought us a bowl of delicious olives. We were able to have a relaxed drink while waiting for our table. From our little perch we were able to see and smell amazing looking plates of steak and grilled seafood being whisked to the surrounding tables. We of course ordered the filet (cooked rare to med rare - perfect), baby clams, and grilled vegetables with aged goat cheese (omg, this dish alone made want to be a vegetarian!). Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the epitome of Mediterranean cuisine. My husband and I both agreed this was one of the best meals we've had in Spain. The servers here do an amazing job making sure each guest is greeted, feel welcome, and fairly assign tables (no special treatment for locals). Don't miss this restaurant if you're traveling in Sevilla! Thank you La Azotea, we wish you'd open a restaurant in San Francisco. We had a frustrating experience here. We are tourists and were easily identifiable as such. We waited for about 30 minutes to be seated without a problem. Then there were two couples (we were also in a pair) that came in and were seated before us. We asked for an explanation and were not given one despite the waitress speaking perfect English. Obviously when you're a tourist poor service can be expected as you do not represent a repeat customer and I suspect this place doesn't seek to be a touristy restaurant but it was really quite frustrating. I do not believe we were mistaken as to what happened. We stayed as it was getting late and the food was definitely above average but as we all know being disrespected can often ruin the experience. read more

I visited Seville in October 2010 with my boyfriend and we went to La Azotea almost every night of our stay. I'm writing this review now because I have yet to get the experience out of my mind. I live in New York and travel often, love dining out locally and abroad, and La Azotea is my favorite restaurant in the world. Each visit we sat at the bar and were able to speak with the owners, a lovely American woman and her Spanish husband. They were incredibly warm and obviously passionate about food, wine, and their restaurant(s). Every dish we had was incredible - From octopus to blood pudding (which I generally do not like at all) to more traditional dishes, the food was fantastic, each dish a new adventure to savor. The price point was also very reasonable, with a great, affordable wine list. We regularly discuss planning a long weekend trip to Seville for the sole purpose of eating at La Azotea again. The food in wine in Spain was magical overall, but La Azotea is the absolute best. I've recommended the restaurant since to some friends that have traveled to Seville and all have had rave reviews as well. read more

tl;dr: this place is awesome if you don't mind spending a little bit more (compared to other places in the vicinity) and getting the best food. Well I was looking for a paella place on yelp and this little restaurant came up. The reviews were too good to pass up, though skeptical, the missus and I went anyways. We had the: 1. octopus carpacio with potato: the octopus was really fresh, covered with a dust of paprika drowning in a bed of potato puree and olive oil. 4/5 2. mini burger: kinda reminded me of the black label burger at Minetta's only smaller. 4/5 3. carabineros: it's sized between a prawn/large shrimp and a lobster, but is more tender and tastes better. 5/5 it's a little expensive but you need to try it. 4. navajas a la plancha (grilled razor clams): we had so much of this already but this was still very fresh and good. 4/5 5. now for la pièce de résistance: grilled foie gras. words cannot describe how good this was. slabs of perfectly grilled foie gras on pieces of toast to soak up the juices. I probably should have skipped the croquetas, as everything else was even better! The rest of what we ordered was all off the specials that change all the time.
