La Ancha sits just a few steps from the chaos of Plaza de Canalejas and Puerta del Sol, yet somehow manages to feel removed from it all. It's tucked away enough that once you're inside, the crowds fade out. The space blends old-world Madrid charm with a more modern, polished presentation. Elegant, upscale, and comfortable without feeling stiff.
The Food
The menu is a deep and confident dive into classic Spanish cuisine. I started with the fried artichokes with Ibérico ham, which were crisp, rich, and exactly what you want them to be. Simple, perfectly executed, and very satisfying.
For the main, I ordered the escalope with egg yolk and truffles, and it was a showstopper. Large, indulgent, and absolutely delicious. The kind of dish that makes you pause for a second after the first bite. It's easily big enough to share, so keep that in mind unless you're feeling ambitious.
Dessert was the Basque cheesecake, and it delivered. Beautifully caramelized edges, a soft and gooey center, and just the right level of sweetness. A strong finish to the meal.
Service
Service was fine. Nothing especially warm or cold, just steady and efficient. It didn't add much to the experience, but it didn't detract from it either. read more
