This is one of our go-to places for sushi. I will say that we weren't as crazy about it as first, but now that we know which rolls are great and which are not so great, we're much better at ordering and getting our money's worth. Honestly, I think it's hard to get sushi of a similar quality at as low of a price as the AYCE deal at Kyoto. I love sushi and try it everywhere I go. First, the good: sushi was fresh and flavorful. Now the bad: I can't stand places that offer all-you-can eat and then charge you for items you don't eat. I've had gastric sleeve surgery and literally cannot overeat, so I try to eat "responsibly" and not waste food. I always order "light rice" so there isn't much rice on my rolls. Needless-to-say, I'm invariably charged for not eating everything on my plate. To bypass this, I order a la carte and did so here. After a long time my friends and I came back for another try. We all got the all you can eat sushi. Everyone was very happy with the food and the service. The scallops are AMAZING!! I went there on a date yesterday and everything was going good the food was good the service was eh but it was still ok, till after I paid the bill. I'm only 17 so I don't have a lot of money I work really hard for what I got so later when the waiter came to get the receipt after I signed it he saw that I didn't leave him a tip and he got angry he began yelling at me embarrassing me in front of my date he was getting all in my face and then while walking away he proceeded to call me a loser and basically kicked us out. Was decent sushi in south metro. Went there with a friend for dinner and was $26.99 for all you can eat. The Spider Roll was very delicious. Love eating here, 25 for all you can eat dinner. It's expensive but I guess we are paying for everything on the menu. Service at first is fast but for your next order you'll have to wait a little than usual. Also you may never receive what you order and may receive something else. We expected bad service after reading the Yelp reviews, but the service at Kyoto was speedy and thorough. (It's definitely faster than at Kami in Apple Valley.) Our sashimi and maki rolls were generally fresh and tasty. For a strip mall restaurant outside of the Twin Cities, Kyoto is a surprisingly good place to eat. read more

Ok so I have been to this exact establishment many times with great service and great food. However last night I had TERRIBLE Service and food was sub par. I do not know what has changed. First I arrive and we were seated right away, however waited 10 min (Wednesday night not busy) for someone to take our drink order which was water and then she rudely disappeared. It then took 10 min for us to get our water and was simply dropped at the end of our table and quickly left us in mid sentence as we were trying to tell her we were ready to order as we were in a slight hurry. It took way to long for her to come back and even then she could not understand what we were saying even though the items were clear on their menu... we had a 10 yr old which we thought would be the child price. That is not the case and we were not told what the actual age was. After waiting too long to get our food (that was again just dropped at the end of our table), 2 of us received our food that was not made as requested (no sauce not hard to do) the other party in our group waited an additional 10 min for her food. We were waiting so long to order and get the food we did not have time to finish the 2nd order of rolls so when we went to pay realized that we were charged for food that was not consumed then and there... The entire time if they were listening they would 1. know that we were in a hurry 2. made food correct to order 3. been more vigilant to our needs. So in the end I paid $33.92 not including a miniscule tip of roughly $2 I paid for terrible service incorrect food orders and for my server to care more about me paying extra $7.93 for 6 little rolls than about providing acceptable service. Food was fabulous as usual ive been here many times and had a nice dinner with my family but tonight on 9/10/2017 was my very last time ever to eat at this location right in Eagan. Our server numerous times came up to us and kept saying are you done yet.. first of all that is so rude to ask it is called all you can eat for a reason plus we had plenty if us there so we wanted to relax and talk and eat not just be rushed out of there!!! So it comes to the end we get our check and my cousin who is a server ends up paying all in 1 dollar bills because she is a server at bar thats all they get sometimes which is fine. so she pays the guy in dollar bills and the guy is pist cause he has to count all of this which sucks for him but its his job. Once he was done counting the $55 she gave a tip of $5 because her mom was just gonna tip big to make up for her tip he has the nerve to say really $5 dollar tip and throws it back on the table... first of all you dont demand a tip second of all if you kept your dumb mouth close you were gonna get a nice tip. never have i ever felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant because of a server and just so you know his name was ANDY!!! i spoke to the supervisor because the manager wasn't in i explained to her what happen and she was nice about it but as ANDY was cleaning the table he said in his exact words that he was going to F*** us up.... seriously now you are threatening us now not only have you lost my business but everyone i know will never go here we will go to the savage location because a place like this that continues to let someone like that work there that treats there customer like that is like saying you are okay with it and you support it. read more

Dropped by this place on a business trip - arrived just before 7pm. Asked if I was there for "all you can eat", I said no, just looking to order some sushi. The gentleman said sounds good and sat me in a booth; the restaurant was maybe 10% occupied, not busy at all. I sat there almost 20 minutes and not a soul approached me to ask if I'd like anything; no contact at all. Servers were waiting on the table 10 feet away and I was completely ignored. It was insane. I ended up walking out only for one of the servers to sarcastically wave goodbye to me, which made me turn back around and come back in the restaurant. The server who waved said "oh, you're coming back in, now?" I pointed out to the greeter that I must have been lost in the shuffle. He pointed at the table he signed me into on the sheet and said "oh!". He was a nice guy, but the look on the server's face was too much, there was no way I was going to spend any money at this place, so I left - again. Just ok. The tempura is too bready and isn't anything special. I do like their Kyoto Roll. They do all the things you'd expect a sushi place to do, just average however. Went here for the all you can eat lunch buffet. Lunch buffet menu had lots of options ranging from apps to terayaki to sushi and tempura. I enjoyed the sushi and understand that because it is a buffet it is not going to have the best of the best grade sushi, but I found the freshness to be on par with other sushi joints who charge high amounts for average grade sushi. The price is great if your a sushi fan. All you can eat is $25. However if your particular about how your sashimi is sliced then skip it and enjoy more rolls. The sashimi isn't sliced properly, it's more diced into chunks and thrown on the plate. Also the service at this particular location isn't up to par. The servers very obviously focus a lot of more the large tables and almost ignore the tables of 2 completely. And sometimes we have had to wait more than 30 minutes just for 2-3 rolls. We've been going to kyoto for over 3 years and it hasn't changed. The only thing keeping us coming back is that we love sushi but we are cheap. But we never expect good service. However the new location in Minneapolis has very nice service if your near that area. read more

We love this place and the food is of a higher quality than we've received at other Kyoto/Akito restaurants. But they're always out of the Hamachi Karma, it's one of my favorites and it's the only cooked white fish item on the menu. Went in a few weeks ago and did not enjoy my experience. Have been to many Japanese themed restaurants and the food was just mediocre here. On top of that, the service was poor and they incorrectly charged my dish. I went in for lunch during the weekday and ordered a Hibachi chicken dish, the server failed to bring the usual side dipping sauces. They also never came back to see if the food was OK and by the time I was half way done eating, I was finally able to flag someone down to bring my dipping sauces. After pointing out the incorrect charge of my entree, they did rectify the error but I will not return to this establishment because of poor service. There is another japanese place just down the road and they are much better in both food quality and service. read more

The last two times I have eaten there they have served me at least one piece of fish that was "expired". The other thing they do is make you choose between "all you can eat" prix fix pricing or aka cart me u pricing - don't do the "all included". It's almost impossible to eat that much sushi. But they really try to discourage you from choosing the aka cart. read more

I see all you can eat as a challenge so I usually leave this place ready to explode. The menu is massive so you really shouldn't have trouble finding something you like. My goodness this place is great. I discovered this place about 4 years ago and frequent it often. It is pricey, but it's worth it. We live in landlocked Minnesota, so expectations for the sushi weren't high, but I was blown away. It was amazing. They have various options of popular Japanese dishes, not just sushi and it's all great. Everything made to order and brought to your table. My only complaint is the servers. I work with a lot of people who frequent this place and they all have the same issue, the servers. They're just so rude. You're lucky if you get a friendly one. Some have treated us like we're a nuisance. The food is so great though, that you just look past the service. You almost just have to endure the bad service to get to that good sushi. Horrible customer service. I would never set foot in this restaurant again. I watched my 16 year old daughter order a sushi roll and when she picked it up, they gave her the wrong one. She did not notice it until she got home so I called and told them about the mix up. I took the original order in and they refused to give me the correct one. They called my daughter a liar and tried to charge me for the original order plus the one she really wanted. I had to argue about crediting the account. The manager Jen was absolutely no help. We have been going to this restaurant for years as have many family members. Arguing shout a $7.00 order is no way to treat what was a loyal customer. Very bad Management. Had 8:30pm reservation and was told we could sit at Hibachi table if at least 5 of our 8 people ate the Hibachi and the other three could order the sushi all you can eat. Would not allow us to this when we got there and sat down. So, we all had Hibachi. Then we all get served our fried rice and ask for Shrimp Sauce and are told that they only have enough for one person because they had a busy day. WHAT?? I asked to speak to the manager and she came out with an attitude and she also said they were out because of busy day. I asked her if they could make some for us. She informed me that the Chef cooking our meal could make it after he finishes our meal and it would be 15 minutes. WHAT? I didn't want the meal without the sauce, so, I said that we might just leave and she told us we could. WHAT? The chef then puts everything down and stomps off to make some shrimp sauce. He comes back within maybe 5 minutes. WHAT? I said is that the sauce that was going to take 15 minutes? I wanted to leave but my party decided to continue the meal. He finished cooking and was trying to make light of the situation. The bill comes and nothing is comped for us for our troubles after Manager said she would. Turns out she never told our poor waiter to comp the bill. I have to send the waiter back to ask her to come see me. He comes to table and says that the manager says to comp 15% of bill. WHAT? She did not come out to apologize for the way they treated us and for getting me upset over SAUCE. I sent the poor waiter back again and she did come out this time and was very sassy towards me. I asked her for 25% off our bill and said that she handled this situation very badly. It would have been so much easier had she just sent our chef back for 5 minutes to make shrimp sauce. Never got 25%, but I promised her that I would write a bad review and never return again and she was perfectly ok with that!!!!! This is for the Eagan, MN, location. My friend and I both loved this place. It's all you can eat and you order off the fairly extensive menu. It's not just sushi and it's not a buffet. I just had sushi and the rolls and pieces I had were terrific and fresh tasting. My friend also had Tempura, which he liked. I had a Sapporo draft with my meal and I think it came in either a 24 or 32oz mug! read more

This place has the rudest staff i have seen in a any restaraunt before. They have price written on a big board 19.99 weekend lunch buffet, and i thought thats what i was getting charged. They charged me 25.99 instead and said price is higher because its fathers day. Its their way of celebrating fatherhood by sneak charging customers extra 6 dollars and then saying i told u so when u came in. (She did not explain that) I came for sushi buffet and was disappointed as sushi rolls are basically 90% rice, with some little bits of other ingredients in them and barely any fish. The sashimi was little chunks of fish that looked like they were ripped off the fish not sliced. The waitress spoke english poorly and when i asked to clarify different items she rambled them on in rapid succession and got annoyed when i asked to repeat the rolls she recommended. I absolutely HATED !!!! My experience here for $30 lunch buffet i could have gone to McDonalds and wud have had a better experience. If i wanted rice i would go to Panda Express. Please fire your hostess and retrain the staff. Ps for some reason the male staff that brought the food was super polite all the female staff were at the front on their phones and seemed annoyed and not welcoming.
