The restaurant has a very modern feel; they dim the lights at ~8:30pm to get the diners in a fancy mood. Solid ambiance for an intimate dinner. Immediately upon ordering, you get a trio set of complimentary banchan: kimchi, steamed broccoli, and sautéed chickpeas. I would have expected more variety in their banchan since that's a staple of Korean cuisine and wanted to definitely see the classic ones like sautéed spinach and pickled radish. The banchan was nothing to write home about, but they at least offered to give us a second serving of it once our meal arrived. We got two of their mains: - Honey pork belly bbq: the meat was perfectly fatty, juicy, and tender. It was nicely charred, dressed in the delicious sweet honey sauce on a bed of grilled onions and fresh scallions. This dish was a true winner and we savored each bite. - Yookgaejang kalguksu: was supposedly spicy, but the soup definitely tasted mild. The right flavors were there and the dish had a generous serving of brisket and an assortment of different vegetables, but the brisket tasted quite bland and there weren't a lot of noodles to go around. Regardless, this dish is quite filling and comes piping hot. We didn't order drinks as they felt quite overpriced. Cocktails ranged from $14-18 and a bottle of soju was $16. I got the bulgogi kimbap and the grape sac sac drink. The kimbap was good. It had 10 slices for $12 (pretty expensive but that's how korean food in new york is). The $2 drink was interesting. They made it a bit more lavish by giving me a separate cup with ice to pour it into. Please drink it with a straw because there's grape particles at the bottom. My friend said you can get the drink at H Mart for cheaper and in a slightly larger bottle so maybe consider that before deciding to get it here or not. The waiter and waitress asked us immediately if we wanted tap or sparkling water. I agree with other yelpers that the service needs to be worked on. I definately recommend having reservations - they had outdoor seating available - we ended up ordering dishes to eat family style instead of one entree a person so that we can all try different things. We ordered the following: - KUUN wings - came with 5 gigantic wings mixed with drumsticks and wings. Could have had a little more spy garlic sauce on it but overall was very good. They were huge so I think it was worth it. -JEON - the seafood pancake was more bellpeppers than seafood and it was a tad bit doughy. I've had better - Pork Jjajangyun - this noodle dish was pretty good and came in a large portion as compared to the other dishes. It was flavorful with a good mixture of vegetables and pork bits. - Kalbi Tang - I really liked the kalbi tang soup on a cold day. It was really hot with big pieces of beef short ribs that fell off the bone. It had a lot of flavor and was easily finished. - Kalbi jjim - the braised kalbi short ribs were good. They were coated in a special sauce that was sweet and a bit sour. - Honey pork belly BBQ - this dish was by far my favorite. The pork belly had a good portion of meat and fat, charred perfectly. I wish I knew about this place sooner!! Kuun opened up in downtown Brooklyn about a year ago and their food is seriously delicious! I ordered the jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) and the kalbi box. The food tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful and the presentation was absolutely gorgeous. The staff was incredibly friendly as well and they were very helpful with recommendations (I can be very indecisive when it comes to ordering food). You're bound to find something you like here, as their menu has dishes that are both indulgent and healthy. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will be returning very soon with my friends. What they say is true: looks are not everything, it's what the inside that counts. Kuun's interior is beautiful, the food pretty good, but the service... just awful. The experience was like when you go on what seemed like a promising first date, but then you ignored all the red flags and you're left feeling disappointed and bitter. We dropped in on a Friday night and asked to put our name on the waitlist (they quoted us 15-20 min wait). From that point, we saw all the food delivery guys crowding the front of the restaurant- Kuun's food pickup system is to put the packaged food on a shelf by the door, so all those picking up are crowing around this shelf and it is very hectic. My husband and I went to run a quick errand and by the time we got back, we saw that the group of those picking up had GROWN, indicating that the food was very slow in coming out. I received the text letting me know that the table was ready but when I asked the host, they said it was not ready yet- if it's not ready yet, why send out the text?? We waited for another 5-10 min and were then seated. Menu features Korean classics, including noodle dishes (jyjajyamyun, jabchae), entrees (kalbi jjim, bulgogi) and soups- my husband and I ordered two hot stone bibimbaps (one with garlic pork, the other with bulgogi) and seafood pancake. We received the banchan (broccoli, fried fish cake, cucumber kimchi) which we finished quickly as we were quite hungry at that point- we did not receive a refill btw. The seafood pancake was very crispy and tasty, but was mostly dough with very little fillings. There were some small pieces of squid but that was about it. After we finished the pancake, my sizzling pork bibimbap came out- I started stirring the rice so that it wouldn't burn, thinking my husband's bibimbap would come out soon after. But surprise! It never came :) We waited 20 minutes after I received mine, but still no sign of his. I asked one server to check, but she never came back and avoided eye contact. I asked another and saw her scan the order screen and quickly type something in- I guess they forgot. At this point, my exasperated husband just asked that they cancel his order and to pack up my bibimbap because I had totally lost my appetite. The server was completely unapologetic and simply brought out the check. We had to squeeze past the ever growing number of food delivery guys to get out. After a doctor's visit, I wanted to get some food for my mom that would be easy on the stomach with enough to take home after so she wouldn't have to cook and could rest - Korean always fits the bill. We had two restaurant options - both seemed solid but the other choice only had beef for their main plates, so Kuun won out. The vibe feels like a cafe post morning rush - calm, relaxed and welcoming. Space is bright and airy with a variety of mellow K-Pop playing overhead, with a well spaced and immaculate layout with cool wood and metal tones. Several groups were having lunch - a couple with their baby, a sole diner who seemed like a regular, and a chatty gaggle of friends catching up across from the bar. Added points for the come one, come all, come as you are atmosphere. Our server was friendly and patient with us as we decided what to eat, explaining dishes in more detail if needed. We had the dukbokee as an appetizer and jabchae as a side; BoSsam with a fresh ssam box for mom, hot stone BiBimBap for me. We were served a three plate offering of banchan, which consisted of pickled cucumbers, radish and fish cake. For a beverage, I ordered the Ginger Asian Pear. The server and bartender were very kind and accommodated us to make a non alcoholic version of this drink for my mom. The non alcoholic version was on par with the cocktail (less the alcohol, of course). This is one of the better (if not one of the best) cocktails I've had. Refreshing, clean and light, all ingredients meshed well and were present in profile; the drink wasn't cloying and did not have the overbearing presence of alcohol or artifice in taste or scent. It tasted as though fresh pear juice or purée was used, a definite plus. Loved the dukbokee - my mom said she wished she could have packed up a separate order of the sauce! Sweet and sour, with a hint of heat and coated the perfectly chewy rice cakes to perfection. The rest of the meal was so delicious I'm embarrassed to say I completely forgot to take photos ... I'll make up for it next visit. The hot stone BiBimBap was a treat for all the senses. I got to mix the bowl myself (which meant the rice on the bottom could be as crispy as I liked), and came with a healing helping of sautéed veggies, and bulgogi (small additional charge of $2). The BoSsam was also very good - crisp and fresh lettuce wraps, with a jalapeños, radish and pickled veg for the pork. Nothing was fried or sautéed in this dish and the spice was mild, so it's a perfect choice if you need an option that's gentler on the stomach. My friend had recommended this place awhile back, but I put off trying it for the longest time. We finally just ordered from here in February 2021, and the food was so good. Delivery came slightly earlier than our window which was fine. Everything was wrapped nicely, including the banchan appetizer. My husband had the japchae and fried rice, while I had the soondubu jigae. We also shared the fried chicken, which is one of the better Korean fried chicken dishes that I've had in New York. Both the japchae and fried rice were bursting with flavor and cooked well. I really enjoyed the soondubu and the banchan also. Cold NYC Friday night, we decided to have dinner at Kuun. We attended Shiny Sparkle Labs (amazing class btw) and wanted to end the night with some food and drinks. Service upon walking in was great. Honestly, I had thought this was more a food hall than a restaurant. The plumberry (?) mojito was insanely good. One of my favorite cocktails I've had in recent memory. But the kimchi in particular was really good - hit the right balance of still-fresh and starting to ferment. For mains, my wife got the kalbi plate and the meat was well-marinated and tender. I have been here before and must say I think their food quality is not as good as it was. I ordered the Kalbi BBQ with white rice. It was super oily and very fatty. Barely any good meat. In the picture is evidence of all the fat leftover (and I tried to eat most of the fatty meat already). I have had their bibimbap (dine in) previously and it was really good. But when I ordered out bibimbap, it was awful (cold rice) and bland. I think it is great for dining in but take-out needs improvement. read more

A much needed Korean style fare addition to the neighborhood, Kuun is the outpost we all wanted to stop making those long pilgrimages to Koreatown. Nestled between a coffee cafe on a busy block, Kuun is designed well in the modern look with lots of light and an open layout. The flavors however, are all traditional and executed well. My favorite Korean place to grab lunch. Their bento box is amazing and shareable with really good short ribs. The soups and kimchi friend rice are amazing. The cocktails, hot sake, and yuzu are great. Chicken wings and ddubokee are my usual appetizers. read more

First meal upon visiting NYC, I was pretty exhausted since I took a super early flight and felt like I needed something a bit more balanced and healthy. But also, I didn't want to wait long. Kuun was a restaurant I had bookmarked for being really close to my hotel, and it was the right choice! The banchan selection consisted of a coleslaw, kimchi, and some mushrooms. I'm not a fan of mayo-based coleslaw but I really enjoyed this one! It tasted fresh, crisp and cool. The mushrooms were nice as well, and kimchi is always welcomed. The Bibimbap with the hot stone pot was done very well. The rice was very crispy at the bottom and upon stirring it, you could get more rice to crisp up as well. The bowl stayed hot through my whole meal, but the banchan struck a good balance between the heat (temperature) of the bowl contents. I came here maybe right after lunch primetime, but expected it to be busier. The space isn't too large, but there is some seating outdoors so I chose to sit outside.
