Found this gem after my mom needed to ship a couple of Balikbayan Boxes - yes, they do that here! They also have a little sari-sari store stocked with all the Filipino essentials: Clover chips, walis, Choco-nut, Jufran Banana Catsup, and even fun novelty items like mugs, aprons, and pamaypays. Basically, it's a one-stop shop! My mom and I decided to stay for lunch and ordered at the counter. They'll let you know what's no longer available, which I appreciated. We got the palabok and a tofu combo plate that comes with three lumpias, pancit bison, and rice - my mom swapped the pancit for bangus since we already had the palabok. Food came out quickly, which was perfect because we were starving! One guy was handling everything - taking orders, delivering food, the works and he kept it all running smoothly. The food was delicious across the board. The tofu especially impressed me; it was beautifully seasoned, which is rare since most restaurants tend to under-do it. I love it when I travel and I get to try new restaurants! I just came back from the Philippines about a month ago. I was there for 3 weeks for the first time in 54 years. I had my fill with all the amazing food. Some of the pros that I appreciate with the food in the Philippines, flavors, authenticity, and diversity. Cons the pork! It has a slimy flavor. Thankfully, the US doesn't have that problem! I ordered pork langoniza, pork & shrimp lumpia, pancit palabok, and halo-halo. The langoniza was great! Nicely cooked, great garlic flavor, and a bit of sweetness. The lumpia was a little mushy but you could taste the flavors of the pork, shrimp, garlic, and the crunch from the carrot pieces. The palabok was missing the shrimp flavor, and was extremely runny. I was a little disappointed but it wasn't terrible. The Halo halo was surprisingly good. It was a little weird to have Fruity Pebbles for garnish toppings. My only complaint was that the glass was too thin and was really hard to eat out of. This glass is for a shake. A more appropriate glass would be something with a wider top. Overall, I would eat here over all the Filipino restaurants in Salt Lake City. The mango halo halo came to me and the top ice cream was dry asf for some reason. The rice tasted like instant rice that prolly cost .89 at cost less and pancit was dry asf also. The magi fruit drink can and wasn't really good barely any mayo flavor but the pineapple was great. There hot cause bottle crusty asf and the soy says bottle looks like it has never been cleaned and day since they opened. Was really looking forward to having a filipino restaurant back in this area. Unfortunately, it was nothing that I had been expecting. We ordered 3 dishes and two desserts. Dinaguan, spaghetti and sisig. The dinaguan was very watery with little flavor. The sisig was very oily, couldn't taste the usual spicy or tanginess that it should have. The spaghetti was okay, but nothing special. The halo halo was VERY dry and disappointing. It hardly had any milk, so it was mostly shaved ice that was slightly flavored. They also added fruity pebbles (like the cereal) to top it which I've never had it like that before, didn't really enjoy it because it took away from the natural sweetness from what would have been the milk and ice cream. The Turon was crunchy but also very oily. There was a young man working the cashier, made little to no eye contact. I wasn't greeted when I entered. I had already requested utensils, but he confirmed if I still needed them, I said yes. After I left the restaurant and checked the order, I saw that he only gave me one set of utensils for 3 people to use. Again, I ordered 3 dishes and 2 desserts, but only had the one utensils package with a single napkin/spoon/fork. Inside, it was a decent size, had tables and booths. Nice to have AC. But unfortunately, I will definitely not be returning. I love to support new restaurants or family owned restaurants, but their prices itself were expensive for both the quantity and quality that was provided. Unfortunately tonight the person taking my order didn't realize I ordered 2 dishes. I got my first dish within 10 minutes but due to the confusion I sat waiting ~10 min for my 2nd item before realizing he didn't even order it with the kitchen staff! So I had to wait another 10 minutes as they rushed to complete my 2nd order... all the time listening to the staff chit chat idly in the kitchen. Now I'm sure they were working but really I wish they just focused on preparing my food without the idle chatting as I begun to wonder if they might just be leisurely preparing it versus rushing it?!? A gem in the humble city of Modesto. A definite must try if you're looking for Filipino food. There's not a lot in the valley so to find one that serves good Filipino food is definitely a win/win. The servers and the manager "Rachel" were super nice and friendly. They also have snacks and a few condiments they sell. We had the adobo combo plate, crispy pata, pork Sisig, and bbq skewers. Soo I was really craving some authentic Filipino food and most of my local friends recommended this place. I ordered 2 orders of Lumpia, which came out to $5 and a Pancit platter that was $8. When I walked in, it was spacious and clean. They even had a mini store to your right when you walk in. I was greeted soon as I stepped foot in the door. I grabbed my food and went on my way home. When I opened the box of Lumpia, I was kinda disappointed bc they WERE SO SMALL! Look, I have Filipino family members, this is not how they are supposed to be made lol. But they tasted cool. The sweet and sour sauce that came with it was also different. Had a spice to them. Not a problem for me, but it had a strong vinegar smell to it. Now, the Pancit was also different to me. I wanted so much to like this place and rate high stars. The place was clean and so is the restroom. A good indicator for cleanliness. The people were very nice, service was good. They have the quaint essential mini store of goods inside. Lots of space and room. Just happens maybe a coincidence that there was an old Caucasian man who kept conversing with us like he was at home. It came a bit annoying after he kept and going. Couldn't enjoy peace and quiet at that point. Ultimately it's down to the food. The fish pinsan was fried nicely but the Lechon Kawali was tough and bland. Even my 9 year old said it. Maybe manager needs to know good quality food or at least have some second opinion. Just an honest advice. I want to give this place another chance so might be back for other food to try. read more

The Central Valley truly lacks on Filipino cuisine, which has its own unique and diverse culinary tastes and tradition that not everyone gets a taste of. As a Modesto-bred, it is great to see a new Filipino restaurant here in the area that can help encompass that. After a long workout in the Planet Fitness I turned over my head to see this new spot. I was super intrigued as I haven't seen it before and immediately told my girlfriend about it. We managed to have a dine-in around noon on a Saturday and I guarantee that the hospitality and service here are great! It really shows the ethnic culture of the Philippines (PI) and how respectful and caring they can be. Inside of the store is a lot larger than I expected! They have snacks in the front with other unique products, some pastries/bakery in the other side plus other commodities like rice and shipment boxes. The decor is simple and there is plenty of seating for multiple parties at once. Our service was great by the young gentleman who attended to all our needs and our food was served by another young woman (maybe the owner or cook?). They were very attending to our needs and gave us excellent customer service. Even told us that they have daily specials with Friday and Saturday being lechon (roasted pig)! How awesome is that??? I will for sure come back to try that! Super friendly and kind! So A+ on that! For appetizers we tried the street food platter, which consists of squid and shrimp balls. Super delicious! Great taste with the vinegar to cut out the oils and also pairs very well with sweet chili sauce. They do taste frozen however and possibly store-bought? But not complaining on that! The filipino spaghetti, unfortunately, didn't amaze us. The portion size was incredibly small especially for the price of $6.95. It lacked the protein and taste was just alright. The combo plates all come with rice, pancit, lumpia, and the choice of entree. Out of the list we ordered the grilled pork belly and dinuguan (pork blood stew). The dinuguan I thought was the best thing we tried that day. Super delicious with great pork flavor and not too salty. My only critique is that the portion for it was lackluster. Not enough pork meat and too much liquid for my liking. As for the grilled pork belly it was pretty burnt and not crispy enough. The texture was a bit rubbery and created a tough texture to chew. The place was nice, a restaurant with a mixture of a small grocery store where they sell filipino snacks. The staff were nice and cheerful. The food was also great, it had a good selection of food and they had a good price for their combos .. They apparently have food menu daily specials which i think changes everyday and i only noticed it afterwards. Sadly i didn't to order those cause i would've ordered the binagoongan. Their soup serving seems small compared to how it's described for 3-4 people i think it's mainly for 2 but it was only $12 i believe so it wasn't a bad deal. The desert is good too. Stopped off for a quick bite with the family while running errands. When we got there it was only us and two other small groups. We went with the combo plate with chicken skewers, chicken plate with chicken adobo and rice bowl with chicken adobo. Unfortunately it took about 30 minutes to get our meals which we had not planned on. Waitress said the chicken skewers take about 15-20 minutes to make. She realized that we were waiting a long time and gave us a few mini lumpia's for the wait. When the food arrived the skewers were very tasty and the food quantity was good for the price. Ok.. Filipino food in Manteca, CA. I can only speak for my order which was the lechon kawali and sisig. The lechon kawali was much smaller/thinner than what I'm used too, but the crunch factor was still there. It's more on the meaty/dry end than fatty. However, the sisig was my highlight. This is my 2nd day in a row of trying to eat here... No waitress to help with seating. The table is still sticky, was sticky yesterday, so I tried to sit at a different table, it's also sticky. There's tables needing to be bussed, which limits where you can sit. Went here for the first time a couple days ago. Ordered the chicken skewer combo the sinagag, chicken Tasino and the halo halo with ube and mango ice cream. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious. I enjoyed everything and it reminded me of my aunties cooking. The staff are super friendly and helpful on explaining everything and what it is so if it's your first time trying Filipina food don't be intimidated by the names they will explain it all. The store also has Filipino snacks and pantry items that I haven't seen since the Philippines definitely authentic and I've already told myself if I'm in the area it's a must I stop and get at least one thing before leaving the area. I went in on Friday Aug 2 and had the lunch combo with pork skewers. The food was good! I could taste a blend of Asian, Island, and Spanish influences. The noodles were thinner and a bit different than the usual ramen style. I support family-owned businesses. The kids were helping- serving drinks, etc- while the adults cooked and tended the till. I've been here at least 5 times, tried different kinds of food. Pancit is too bland, dinuguan doesn't taste good, lechon was chewy and they gave pieces that usually would be thrown away. Crispy pata was good the first time I tried it. The second time I ordered it, it was tougher. The Turon and halo halo were good but overpriced. I hope they get better cooks and hire some legit Filipino people to taste the food and give an honest opinion. That's the only way they can improve their food quality. Service is good. Food is okay. Portion size is zero star. Pros: Their grilled pork was good and also the lumpias (but they forgot to give me sauce with my order). The longanisas were good too. Cons: Overpriced! I ordered their pakbet platter for $8.95. The platter is not really a platter, it's half the size of the to go containers when you order Chinese food...and they don't even fill it up! And for $8.95, it's all just veggies - NO MEAT at all! I also ordered a large chicken afritada. They container is not even full & the chicken are bite-size, not full pieces - 12 bite-size pieces to be exact! They charged me $14.95 for this! And their pancit, nasty shit, that's why I didn't order it again. I also found out that the Special of the Day is not always fresh as they would serve it again the next day if they had leftovers. We love the lechon kiwali- it's delicious! Aside from the lechon, texture of meats is as if they've been sitting in a crock pot all day and/or made too far in advance to serve. In a medium sized to-go container, there is about a 3/4 inch layer of clear liquid fat/grease at the top of wet entrees (all of them but the kare kare, as the peanut butter thickens it's sauce) with meat (overtime, we've tried them all at least twice). In the past, not enough condensed milk in the halo halos, I think they'd run low or out and hoped we wouldn't notice given most around here don't really know authentic Filipino food. Clean dining area, but tables lack condiments, salt, and pepper (wouldn't be an issue if the food wasn't bland). Will continue driving to Lathrop, Tracy or Stockton for authentic and better tasting Filipino food. Although I live minutes from Kusina, there is a greater cost benefit for me to drive further for better quality food, at significantly lower prices, even with gas prices as crazy as they have been. My parents are first generation, and, as a Modesto native of 30+ years, I really, really wanted to love this place; but after 5 or 6 attempts dining/picking up from here with an open mind for improvement, it will continue to be a last resort to fulfill our undeniable cravings for Filipino food without having to cook it myself. This is Modesto's only Filipino restaurant, so they've got that going for them. I grew up in that neighborhood, I know it well. I foresee them doing OK for now (by default), but only for as long as they remain without local competition. Hopefully the renovations currently being made to Century Center will extend the restaurant's shelf life and attract more patrons sooner than later, while Kusina remains the single option for locals to eat Filipino cuisine. read more

I ordered via DoorDash Grilled Pork Belly with vegetable roll and pancit, 1 Charon bulaklak and lechon kawali. The grilled pork belly is NOT GRILLED at all. It was TOO DRY and DOES NOT TASTE GRILLED AT ALL. It was pan fried and again it was TOO DRY and HARD AS ROCK. I was sick so want some comfort food and I don't have any ounce of comfort from this food except for the vegetable roll. The pancit don't have the taste of Filipino pancit. The Lechon Kawali and the chicharon bulaklak were just ok, nothing special, according to my hubby. Didn't try them so I really can't rate those food. Gave them another try. Ordered the small bowl of pork sinigang with a side order of rice. The soup was flavorful with tender pieces of pork but was lukewarm and had solidified pieces of grease floating in it. The least they could have done is nuked it til hot. A must-try, especially if Filipino food is new to you. Combo plates come with a variety of mains, including milkfish, carne asada, and BBQ pork skewers. The combo plate is a nice lunch-sized portion, where your main is accompanied by pancit bihon (delicious noodles), rice, and lumpia (also delicious). The milkfish is prepared with a kind of spice rub. On my first visit, it was perfect and moist; on my second, it was close to fish jerky but still enjoyable to eat. Second visit definitely seemed to have an understaffed kitchen (that's 2022 for you). If you're feeling fretful, get takeout so you get it all at once and can go home. read more
