This is the only KFT location currently opened with COVID19 going on and I have to say I was very disappointed. Service is quick, but they are absolutely horrible at answer your telephone calls. I had an employee contact me, letting me know they were out of almond milk and the slush machine was broken. I told them I'd call them back to let them know if I would like to replace those two drinks (as they were for friends--I needed to call them first to ask). When I returned the store's phone call, no one picked up and if they did, connectivity was poor. By the time I got there, my boba was ready but the black pearls were so undercooked. This Kung Fu Tea is fairly small, right off the University of Maryland campus, and there's only metered and garage parking nearby. For the meter, coin (no credit cards or app) payment was required until 10pm, and we saw a diligent meter attendant eagerly looking for a "gotcha" moment. The customer base is almost all college students (we were alumni of the school at least!). Inside, there are a few armchairs by the window, a few long communal tables in the center, and a few two-person cocktail tables along the right wall. The tea shop was not busy when we arrived--no one in line and about 15% of the seats were full. The menu was high up on the wall to the left side, clear and brightly lit. My friends and I ordered without any difficulty, and the cashier was friendly, helpful, and patient. You can pay with the LevelUp app, and if you pay by credit card, this business uses Revel (via iPad) to process the point-of-sale transaction. There was enough seats for the four of us, and as time passed the tea shop grew sporadically busy with bursts of college students packing all at once, in alternating with dry spells where no customer entered for 10-15 minutes. There were a few customers waiting, and some were ordering at the counter. With four employees at a small store, I thought they'd have somewhat of a system. They didn't. The other customers got their drinks before me, which was unfair since I ordered on the app for a faster experience. I didn't get that. Not once did the workers ask "what was I waiting for?" or "have I been helped?" Mind you I was waiting pretty close already. The girl just kept calling out orders without ever greeting me or looking at me! Until I stepped all the way up to the counter past the red line just to get their attention. I've been loving the Boba tea here. They are very refreshing for a summer day. I got the limited time drink called a Taro with pudding. Man it was so good. Very sweet/ decadent. My favorite part was the pudding at the end. The texture was a great addition. The service was fairly quick. We got our drinks within 15 minutes. The location was pretty bare they had ads of their drink selection. I usually just drop in order my drink then walk on the nearby trail. The ambiance doesn't bother me too much. read more

We showed up around 12:45 PM on Sunday, September 1st, and there were only 2-3 people inside so we were able to place our orders right away. I got my usual, of course! It's not easy to find a longan jujube drink at any other tea shop so I was trying to max out my ability to drink it as often as I possibly could while I was close to a KFT. My drink was made exactly the way I like it! This location was actually kind of weird. The ceilings are really high & it should have an open feel, but for some odd reason, it seems really gloomy and dim. So I rolled in at 10:30PM on a Friday night with a boba tea craving. Kung Fu's sign says they're open until 11. I was greeted by a server who stood there as I studied the menu. It wasn't until I ordered a smoothie drink that she said, "we can't make smoothies because we're almost closing." Ummm...what? So you're not going to serve me what I ordered because you don't want to use the blender? And you couldn't have said something before I ordered? Also, almost closing is 5 minutes before you close the door, not 30 minutes before your posted closing time... Customer service is as important as the product being sold. And even though I was happy enough with a prior experience at the Kung Fu Tea in Rockville, there are lots of other bubble tea shops around and I'm happy to take my $$ elsewhere. Bottom line: If you're looking for delicious bubble tea in the College Park area, you're better off across the street at Ten Ren's tea time. read more

Thought I had tasted good bubble tea until I had Kung Fu Tea. This place is the real deal. I tried the Taro Milk tea with the black bubbles. The tea is delicious and the bubbles are even sweet, making the drink a lot more enjoyable. I did not realize that Kung Fu steeps their tea in-house and all those other places that I thought I had good tea from were using concentrated powders. I'm watching empty calories. Although, I enjoy these teas once in a while, you gotta watch the calories or do some exercise during that day to make it worth your while. These teas are somewhere around 400 to 450 calories (high in carbs /low in protein/high in fat). When you go to their website you won't find much info on the nutrition. Definitely want to get out and try some other variations like the Kung Fu Matcha Tea and Passion Fruit Slush. I was so overwhelmed with all the choices, but in the window there is this Top 10 Kung Fu Tea poster, that's where I saw the Taro Milk and it turned out to be a great choice. Only thing is I wish they had savory snacks like the location in Germantown, I love the popcorn chicken, spicy and seasoned with basil. The sitting space here is very wide and open. Nice place to have an informal meeting or just to get together with friends. I didn't see a lot of people here, but it was a weeknight. I can imagine it may get busy from time to time. I was in the area for a meeting and during our break, my sorority sisters and I stopped by for a few drinks. I ordered the large KF Milk Tea with boba. I didn't have to wait too long (about 3-4 minutes) and was happy to know that they didn't have a minimum $ to purchase for using a credit card. AND they have a loyalty stamp card. FTW! The staff was friendly and we received our drinks quickly. My bubble tea was delicious! I liked that this location is spacious and the decor was beautiful. A bit shocked that this location has such poor reviews, but inspecting a bit seems like it's service related? Personally, I'm cutting them some slack given that we're going through a pandemic and systems are still adjusting. Vegan notes: * the milk powder is lactose free, but not vegan (at least according to their corporate website) * Vegan options: classic teas (with no honey) and punch teas (with no honey). The non-milk slushies are vegan as well. * Bubbles: The original bubbles are NOT vegan since they are honey based. They have a bunch of other options that are vegan. Mango popping bubbles, grape popping bubbles, coffee popping bubbles, and a bunch of jellies, as well as red bean. We got the peach oolong classic tea with grape and the winter melon green tea when mango popping bubbles. They are very different from the traditional bobba that I've come to love, but they were actually delicious. The popping bubbles kind of burst in your mouth with juice. We got the oolong with 30% sugar, and the winter melon comes with no added sugar so is a great choice if you prefer your drinks on the lower spectrum of sweetness. I was expecting pretty slow service, and it did move slower than I would have expected pre-pandemic maybe, but they were working non-stop and the bubble tea came out decently fast. The cashier was also really nice and helpful. Now if only the chain would make the "milk" powder vegan (please please please). read more

I love the cozy seating option and that there was practically no wait, but I definitely prefer the sugar standards of the R-ville location. We got our standard KFT order but it definitely tasted sweeter than usual; I'll be downgrading to 0% sweet or switching to a jelly topping since I feel like they're liberal with pudding portions here. Two words: Dairy-free options!!! Love the vibe! Quick and delicious. I've been to most of the MD locations with the exception of Rockville and the quality is mostly consistent. Only one time the Crofton location's coconut milk tasted very watery. I always get either the coconut milk tea with boba or the almond milk tea with boba. Light ice, light sugar. Pretty plain jane. Because I'm lactose intolerant and have other allergies my options (anywhere) are limited. The staff is always nice. Of all the locations, the best one is the College Park one. The first time I went to this location was years ago and I had a bad experience. The people were friendly enough but the Pina Colada slushie I had was terrible. It made me think that Kungfu Tea as a whole was terrible so it stopped me from getting bubble tea for many years. The location in Westfield Montgomery mall made EXCELLENT bubble tea when I tried it so I decided to give this location a try again since it was closer to my house. Again, the boba were overcooked to the point that it was mush (and didn't even hold it's form) and the pina colada slushie not only tasted terrible but was somehow HOT. It was a mess! Perfect place! I love practicing my kung fu and I love tea, and I get to do both here. The workers even scream at me to cheer and hype me up when I practice my high kicks on the tables! 5/5 Just kidding. Kung fu tea is like a cafe and they have a wide variety of teas and fruity drinks with lots of toppings to choose from. I usually go here with friends to distress from school. My favorite drinks are the Winter melon Green tea with bubbles or the Lychee punch with bubbles. I've also tried the jujube tea and mango green tea. Just keep in mind that the fruity drinks here are pretty sweet. Especially the jujube. It tastes like it is made of sugar as compared to other bubble tea places where you taste the tea more. I first discovered Kung Fu Tea when I lived in New York, before they began to open stores beyond their primary location. I cannot say how happy I am to now have one nearby! They have all the essentials plus some. I have never had a bad tea from here. My favorites include the classic KF milk tea, passion fruit green tea, and honey green tea. Apparently, the wintermelon is super popular; so, I tried it but wasn't a fan. The location itself is in a strip along Baltimore Ave between some restaurants. The clientele is primarily UM students (and me). There are a few places to sit but not many in usual KFT fashion. But if you grab one, it's a great place to chat or study. read more
