Kimora has the makings of a giant izakaya but somehow sectioned things off to make the back rooms feel more modern. If that doesn't raise expectations the service is on a whole other level with super knowledgeable staff as if they have been there for a while or even own the places. Its impressive! When you tie service and ambiance that leaves the food. Delicate and flavor forward dishes really play to all levels of the meal. Precisely cut pieces of fish and decorated with spices and sauces for an amazing meal! Highly recommended and an easy decision to return. Make your reservation and get that sushi in your belly!
The food was great! My preference was the rolls but the other dishes we got were interesting. We were there for restraunt week but next time I think we'd stick with just the rolls. The service was okay but they didn't offer to split the bill for our large group. The ambiance is nice.
First time here, the ambiance was really comforting. Good for dates or small gathering. Service was attentive and fast. The cocktail was good for what it was. The sushi on the other hand. It was more pricey than it should have been. I'm not sure why it would even be called "omakase"...it was literally just various common nigiri pieces. I believe I picked this 12 piece because it was an option where the rice was mixed in vinegar. But let me be more specific. Out of the 12 nigiri pieces, only the unagi one was of balanced taste. The rest had either little bits of wasabi, seasoned ginger of some kind topping. None of which go well with the nirigi itself. It was like extra topping to make it seem more value than basic nigiri. I dont even know how to address the soy sauce. It wasnt low sodium or high sodium, but It had a tangy taste to it that did not compliment anything you dip. Imagine eating vinegar rice, dipping in ponzu sauce and topping it off with scallion wasabi..... As for dessert, no complaints about the affogato, vanilla ice cream bathe in espresso. Cannot go wrong, the corn cannoli was interesting. The yellow corn custard had a very pleasant corn cream flavor. But the rest of it was not enjoyable. There was some chili string as topping, but that tasted like nothing. The pure bland sour cream between the cannoli had zero flavor. So you're just eating spoonful of sour cream....alot of textures but lacked of taste and flavor. It was not enjoyable for the price.
We really liked the vibe here and we're initially uncomfortable bringing our baby to a nice restaurant but the hostess and who I assume to be the manager were accommodating. They installed a countertop high chair for us and made sure to move all utensils out of reach of our son. That was a really kind gesture that didn't go unnoticed. My husband had the six course omakase and we also ordered the broiled eggplant and a few more rolls. The eggplant was my favorite, so good and filling. My husband enjoyed the omakase and I had a few bites of it as well. It does take some time to receive your food if you do the omakase menu but it was still timely. Note that the bathroom does not have a changing table so plan ahead if you're coming with a baby.
As a sushi fanatic, I can't believe I just discovered Kumoya. What a hidden gem! The uni udon was incredible--rich, flavorful, and unforgettable. The sushi was fresh, the music was great, and the overall vibe made for an amazing experience.
Wonderful sushi and cocktails for happy hour. Meticulously created sushi and beautiful rolls looked like an art form. Sit at the sushi counter to watch creators make these masterpieces. This place is expensive, but happy hour helps. The ambiance is lovely and gorgeous textile designs, lighting, and decor make this an elegant place. The bar is lively and loud, but you also see the cocktail artists at work! Friendly, energetic staff and great service.
I would definitely recommend Kumoya. I've been twice now and it's always such a good time. The restaurant is so beautiful, each room feels like an art piece. The service is also top tier. The food is so fresh, creative, and expertly prepared. The salmon sushi roll I ordered had a large portion of salmon and the cilantro was such a nice touch. The eggplant dish was the table favorite. We also shared desserts, which were so surprising and delicious. It was layered with banana, what I assume was a black sesame paste, crushed frozen grapes, and roasted marshmallow fluff. I've never had anything like it, but I loved it. The strawberry mochi cake was delicious as well.
Finally got around to checking this place out! Went on a Tuesday night for dinner - the restaurant was very spacious (where Tony P's pizzeria used to be a while ago), and there was a front room with a sushi bar, a middle room where we sat, then what looked to be a cozy bar in the back room. The menu consists of obviously sushi and a variety of small plates - we opted for the following: Kinoko: "mushroom' king trumpet, hon shimeji, oyster mushrooms, pickled kabu, charred greens, rosemary tamari reduction Kumo: soft shell crab, dashimaki, cucumber, shiso, yamagobo, daikon, and shiitake topped with masago & amadare sando: "milk bread sandwich" berkshire pork, napa cabbage, tonkatsu sauce, asian pear, curry aioli udon: "thick noodles" hokkaido scallop, uni butter, cured egg yolk Everything was very good - the mushrooms were our favorite. I think sometimes you just order the "wrong" things at a restaurant which was probably the case here - Kumoya is known for fish/sushi so we probably should've gotten more of the sushi to try. The kumo rolls we did get with soft shell crab were super fun and flavorful - almost too many flavor bombs happening! Our server was helpful to us in making our decisions on what to order - would totally come back here and try more of the sushi rolls.
I love the fact that they have a coat rack and hooks under the table at the bar seatings for your purses or other items you may want to hang and out of the way. Service was wonderful and they're very attentive. I went with the omakase and was served 5 dishes. Each dish was very lovely. The eggplant appetizer is what surprised me the most. I absolutely hate the texture and taste of eggplants and the flavor was just stunning. If eggplant dishes tasted like theirs all the time, then eggplant is my new favorite vegetable. Their raw fish were all very fresh and delicious. They don't provide you with any wasabi and ginger but there are 3 wasabi options available to include a flight with all 3 if you'd like. I'm not sure if they provide ginger or not since I never asked. I tried 2 of their cocktails, Goten and Shinron. They're dragon ball themed, so I was told. Both of them tasted really yummy and not too sweet. I would get either again. After finishing my omakase set meal, I was still hungry and wanted to try more dishes. I was recommended the Wagyu tartare and I personally wanted to try the mabo dofu. The wagyu tartare tasted pretty interesting with the toasted milk bread. I think the sweetness of the milk bread definitely throws off your palate slightly but the tartare itself still tasted good. It wasn't the best I've ever had so I'm not sure if I would get it again before trying other items on the menu. For the mabo dofu, I neglected to look at the ingredients of what makes the dish and was disappointed when tasting it. It's made with dobanjan. I had to google after tasting the dish and that's bean paste. It's definitely a flavor I do not like at all. I ate 2 bites and politely let them know I personally did not enjoy it when the waitress checked in on me. I got the last 2 add on items comped which was really nice of them to do. They didn't need to comp the wagyu tartare because it was still enjoyable but I still appreciated that. There is an automatic 20% gratuity and I tipped them in addition to that for their exceptional service and attentiveness. Would love to come back again and try the other items on their menu.
The new up-and-coming sushi joint in Lohi Colorado left a little much to be desired. I might chalk all of this up to them being new and working out their kinks still. This place seems promising however currently it's not providing anything better than what I think is in my opinion mediocre food. Let's get into the detail shall we? We got the miso soup, spicy tuna roll, the Hamachi roll, the eel hand roll, both of the skewers, chicken and Wagyu beef, and the udon. The drinks were a beer, a mocktail, sake and wine. Drinks need garnishes, even if they're mock tails. We loved the wine. Great choice. I don't really know what they are trying to do with the miso soup, but there wasn't an umami flavor at all. It almost tasted like it was made out of miso with a little bit of some kind of meat broth. The meat broth overpowered the miso. The spicy tuna roll was good. It was filled with fish, however, the flavors weren't really there. It was better exemplified in the Hamachi roll. The lemon zest, the lemon seasoning the Yuzu sauce within the roll it wasn't popping nothing was popping. Also, what was a little disappointing was that none of the fish tasted fresh. The hand roll was good however I think the eel should've been chopped up a little more. It also seems like the eel was just covered in a teriyaki soy sauce and put into a hand roll with rice and cucumber. I think a little more effort needs to be going into how the fish is being seasoned and prepare prepared if you want to be a sushi joint, especially in Denver. Do you know has way too much butter. It's kind of all I taste. The Wagyu and chicken skewers seem to be coded in the same sauce that the eel was coded in, which I wasn't really a huge fan of. I think they overcooked the Wagyu beef. Now to the service, it's very clear that a lot of the weight staff are still being trained. They are very nice however we asked our bill to be split four ways food and drink yet the server somehow ended up charging us for the full bill price plus the four-way split. It took 10 solid minutes to try to flag the server down and to solve the issue. The owner was there and he does seem like he cares and he's very nice. Onto the ambience and dish ware, I think while cute, the wooden bowls and wooden spoons on the miso soup really after wear and tear of being in a dishwasher, etc. they don't present nicely at the end of the day. The main dish plates are broken glass, which is a symbolism in culture, and I do appreciate that aspect of it, and the inside of the restaurant is very cute. Overall, I say this with a lot of love, I think this place has a lot of potential, but there are these kinks and issues that I think the restaurant needs to fix before they're worth five stars. It is definitely a hard game coming into Denver and opening a sushi restaurant when there are 1 million other sushi places in Denver that are crushing it.
Came in for a birthday meal and enjoyed it! The ambience is nice and the service was super friendly. We got nigiri as well as a few entrees. The Wagyu tartare was to DIE FOR and the sushi was so fresh. We didn't love the miso cod, it was a bit flavorless and we didn't love the Bibingka dessert. But overall, a lot of hits and some misses. It's definitely an indulgent and pricey meal for a special occasion, but I'd come back again.
Being a fan of sushi, I'd wanted to try Kumoya for a bit...did not disappoint! Sat at the sushi counter to celebrate my birthday and the chef was super helpful! We made it for happy hour and tried 3 rolls and then moved on to some amazing and fresh nigiri and ended with the hamachi which was incredible!
Beautiful interior with an inviting atmosphere. The Wagyu steak was absolutely delicious, I'd definitely order it again. For dessert, we had the banana tiramisu, which was fantastic. The chocolate nibs added the perfect crunchy contrast to each bite. We also tried the shake roll, very light and subtly flavored, and the pickled cucumbers, which had a nice little kick. Service was excellent, the staff were all incredibly kind and attentive. Can't wait to come back, especially for more Wagyu and that amazing tiramisu!

Walked in with no reservation on a busy Friday night and the hostess was so nice! Sat us at their bar which was a fun experience. The shake roll (middle) was the best sushi roll I've ever had. Will come again next time I'm in Denver! read more

We visited on a Sunday around 5:30; I made a reservation on open table about an hour before our arrival but the place was quiet and it probably have been easy to secure a table or spot at the bar upon arrival. Staff was immediately knowledgable and accommodating about gluten intolerance and celiac. No soft shell crab or spicy tuna for celiacs! I was given tamari almost immediately. We started with drinks; the endo (refreshing, smokey, light vegetable sweetness) and takai (light, refreshing, tangy). We got the tsukemono "pickled veggies"; staff separated the daikon / carrot combo from the cucumber d/t soy sauce drenching of cucumber and all the veggies were exactly the cool, refreshing bites we needed. We next got the salmon tartare rolls and spicy scallop rolls and MAN. Those took the cake. The staff had to make the spicy scallop rolls GF by subbing tempura asparagus with regular asparagus -- our waitress knew to do that without me even requesting after I let her know about my celiac diagnosis. Such incredible service. We got the yakitori kushiyaki (chicken; wagyu can't be made GF) and it was absolutely delightful. My boyfriend had the wagyu nagiri and said "that was the best thing I ever had in my entire life... it's subtle but rich; the flavor was crazy". It was a one bite piece so heads up on that if you're getting one. I got the yellowtail rolls next, they were alright but everything was going to pale next to the salmon tartare. Speaking of, finished the night off with another salmon tartare roll because why not! Easily best sushi I've ever had. We did agree that the spicy scallop / salmon tartare combo was top notch though. My boyfriend also enjoyed the Umami following his Wagyu (excellent combo he says). The staff was honestly excellent. Our server Kayden G was absolutely wonderful. Wes, the GM, was top notch. Teyo, the expo, was also incredible. Everyone was timely, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and insightful. We received such excellent service. Like other reviews say, plan to pay $200 at the end of the meal. however, InKind is running an offer for $50 off any Kumoya meal over $150 right now through mid July... so now is a great time to go :') Enjoy the experience! And my GF buddies - feel comfortable and safe here! read more

This is, hands down, the best Japanese restaurant in Denver. Maybe all of Colorado. I have eaten A LOT of sushi in my life - in LA, Manhattan, Tampa, Portland - and this is probably the freshest fish I've found. My sister and I went to celebrate her birthday yesterday and we chose to do the Chef's Omakase offering at $125 per person. Pricy, yes, but we got SO much amazing food, from both the sushi bar and the kitchen. The variety was incredible and our server, Tristan, nailed the suggestions for us. He was attentive, kind, helpful and knowledgeable. Everything we tried was fresh and flavorful. We were so stuffed we ended up taking a roll or two home. To drink, we had a My Neighbor and a Sosuke, respectively. We switched to a Seedlip-less version of the Ginger mocktail later - the cocktails and NA options were both great. Next time I'm there I want to try the Kodama. The food brought to us was, in order: -Rockfish sashimi with avocado, yuzu and oil - it was brand new, just in that day, we may have been the first to try it. Chewy but fresh and light. -Somen - noodles, avocado, king crab, fresh peas - served chilled, the crab was amazing. The avocado in both dishes were perfectly ripe. -Sando - breaded Berkshire pork, Asian pear, Napa cabbage, milk bread, curry aioli - this was my favorite thing, I could have eaten 6. Just order it. -wagyu tartare - diced wagyu, miso mustard, soy-cured egg yolk, toasted milk bread crostata, chive - also incredible. Another thing to just get and enjoy. -nigiri selection - Hokkaido uni (sea urchin), unagi (grilled freshwater eel), and hon-hamachi (yellowtail) - three of my favorites, and Tristan knew without even asking. The uni was truly the best I've ever tried, everything melted in the mouth. -uramaki selection - shake (salmon tartare, avocado, apple-Serrano vin, cilantro) and bachi (spicy tuna, avocado, tobiko, fried shallots) - both were so big, we were running out of room. My favorite was the bachi. -Kara'age - fried chicken thigh nuggets with scallion emulsion sauce - a fresh take on a common Japanese dish in the US. Very yummy. Even after all the food, we had to have dessert. We tried the mango coconut rice cake with ube ice cream and mango coulis (I can't remember the name), the banana tiramisu, and the Corn dessert, which was brand new too. If you get ONE thing here, get the Corn. It's light, it's creamy, it's dreamy. Flavor wise, it reminds me of the Pops cereal from the 90's and the cereal milk flavor, and what that should taste like without the crap ingredients. It's so elevated and wonderful. I have a roaring sweet tooth and I think this is the best dessert I've ever had, and I have had many, many desserts from many, many cuisines. My sister ordered a whole one to go. The restaurant is beautiful and clean. This is definitely a special occasion venue but treat yourself! read more

What a delightful dinner experience with some top-notch service. The big surprise the night was the eggplant. I've never had anything like that and thought it had amazing flavor as well as the brussels sprouts salad. The cures were delicious. The sauce on the pork belly was amazing and the sushi was out of this world who knew that Denver could get such fresh sushi read more

HOLY CRAP! Let me tell you, came here on a Wednesday night 10:40 pm. They only had the late night menu and drinks, but that's all I needed. It felt like I found a diamond. I got two drinks the Umami and Kaigan. The Umami was whiskey and mushroom run, CRAZY so it tasted like a lighter old fashion, but as you smell when about to drink it, you can smell the earthyness of the mushroom rum. Very cool , very unique, went really well with my food. // The Kaigan cocktail is whiskey, rum, sherry, banana and something else and comes on FIRE BABY! I had this after my food and honesty deserves to be at a tiki bar, I love everything banana flavored in my liquor for some reason. It might not vibe with people, but vibes with me. // So I came here late, so the food options were limited. I got the Bara Chirashi which is the mixed seafood bowl on rice and HOLY SHIT, this was fire. I was hungry I just got to Colorado for the first time, feeling weird but this put me down. I honestly wanted another if I could eat more sooo good. They used the wasabi not like that pale green color one, the one that I like in my Tako Wasa (octopus and wasabi). Very good. What a come up. So glad I didn't just pass out and came to eat. read more

Top 3 best meals ever. You just have to try for yourself. Best sushi I've ever had and the appetizers were spectacular. They even have their own pastry chef (try "the corn" dessert). The GM, Wes, is the nicest guy you'll ever meet and was visiting with every table in the restaurant. Our waitress, Kaden(?), was knowledgeable, warm, and very attentive. You'll feel well taken care of here. The feeling of this place was homey yet vibrant and elegant. Truly a must-visit if you're in or near Denver. read more
What an amazing experience! First the restaurant was super cute. Love the decoration, and the music and the romantic vibe. They have a sushi bar area and an alcoholic bar in the back. The drinks we had were amazing. We met the bar manager aka pickled master aka Kael. The pickled onion he had in the cocktail was the best I've had ever had. I didn't realize pickled onion can taste like that. And I have been to many amazing restaurants and bars around the world. Wes the manager was very helpful. We told them we decided to omakase he said just give him a budget and he will make it happen. Austin was our waiter he check on us and made sure we got everything we need at all time. Service was 1000000000000% So now let's talk about food. Traditional sushi not about of crazy pairing with fruits or sauce like other sushi restaurants. You get to really taste the flavor of the fish if that's not for you maybe try their sushi rolls? Also a lot of unique fish never had a barracuda before tonight. The apps and drinks and the pickled onion was my fav. Must try items !!!!!!!! Waygu tartare and the Mukozuke! We will be back there couple things on the menu I really want to try. read more

Cool, new, moody Japanese lounge in LoHi. We got in with same day reservations on a Saturday. The front part of the restaurant is more of a sushi bar vibe, the middle is more loungey and the back is a straight up bar. Drinks: my husband wanted a beer, we didn't see any on the menu so we asked about it. He chose the yuzu white ale - very average beer, not so average price. Hands down the most expensive beer I've ever witnessed at $18 which came as a surprise when we got the bill. Ouch. How about a beer menu next time?? Food: - Wagyu Tartare - delicious! Recommend and it's served with bread. - Nasu Misoyaki - the eggplant dish that many have posted about. Unfortunately it was INSANELY salty with the miso and not sure if there was added salt. Seems like this one varies. I wouldn't order again. - Sandoitchi - the bread was divine but because we got bread with the tartare this felt very heavy. It needed more slaw to balance out the denseness of the thick fried pork + bread. - the salmon tartare roll was my absolute favorite. The best thing we got! Highly recommend. The fish was fresh and melt in your mouth! - amazake desert - plated fancy but none of the flavors really stood out. Overall I'd probably rate a 3.5 - I'd come back just to try more sushi but gotta recover from the $18 beer first. read more

This restaurant is bigger than it looks. There is ample seating in the two main rooms. Really nice and upscale decor. I made reservations through OpenTable and it required a credit card but once we got there, we were seated right away. The waitress Natasha helped us a lot with our selections. The wagyu beef tartare was probably my favorite. I really liked the seaweed crisps that came with it. It added the right amount crisp and saltiness while the beef was very tender. The sashimi's were all tasty. It was my first time trying needlefish...it kinda reminded me of fishy boba :) with the texture. It was probably my least favorite. The unagi had more of a stiff texture than other Japanese restaurants so that was different. The scallops were so tender and tasty. I really liked the sauce of that dish. The eggplant was also delicious...not sure what added the crisp but that was a good addition. Prices were kinda expensive but still not bad for the quality of the food. Natasha did forget to bring us some of our order but the manager Wes took care of it once he noticed we were sitting there for a while not getting any more food. Still no complaints since it allowed my friend and I to converse more. But I probably would've given 5 stars if we didn't have to wait so long for some of our order. read more

Best Japanese in Denver, hands down! Ambiance, interiors, service is on point. Seafood is brought in from Japan and you know is quality. Seasonal dishes makes it fun and exciting. Drinks are also yummy! read more
Experience was a bit all over the place when we visited soon after their opening. Service upfront was very friendly and we were sat promptly. From there our servers seemed disorganized with not knowing who visited our table previously and our drinks taking 20+ mins. Food wise the tuna tartare had a nice flavor but I'm not sure if the gold leaf is really necessary. The appetizer variety plate was definitely a miss with the salmon rolls being disgusting. Potato salad was good though and helped redeem the order a bit. Eggplant had a nice flavor but not mind blowing as others imply. All my nigiri was great with a great selection of fish on their menu. I'd be willing to try Kumoya again when their service and menu matures a bit. read more
My company took a group of us to dinner at kumoya on a Wednesday evening in March. We had a reservation, but note that they do have a private room you just have to specifically request it (it was taken this night). Based on all of the seating, if I go back, I will be sitting at the bar top to see the chefs making the food. We ordered a ton of dishes but some noteworthy ones were the beef tartare dish and the toro. read more

I really wanted to fall in love with this place but it wasn't meant to be. Came in on Valentine's Day and the ambiance is super vibey and trendy. When it came to the food, the prices of each dish were expensive and the portions are very small. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but didn't think the price matched the quality of the food. The menu is small and there are limited options. As the waiter mentioned that they are open late and there is a DJ that spins on certain nights, I'm thinking this is more of a chill spot where you can snack instead of expecting a meal that can put you into a food coma. read more
