My boyfriend booked me in for a pedicure for my birthday weekend and I've never been here before but it's 2 mins away from where we live so I was excited to check it out. I chose the regular polish pedicure and the girl who did them, did them fine but during the end she didn't even help to dry them out. Usually in my experience with regular pedicures, they let your feet dry with an electric fan or spray the fast drying spray, and check up on you as it's drying. She finished painting them and told me to just sit and wait for it to dry, should be good in 10-15 min. She never once checked up on me since, even as I was leaving. I waited and then after 15-20min I put my shoes back on and headed to go pay, while at the checkout I looked at my toes again and they were ruined. I asked the receptionist if someone could fix it and she said i would have to wait 30-45 min till someone could re do them. Long story short they fixed it and finally dried it with an electric fan, and the second lady who did it, was a lot more considerate when it came to making sure my toes were all dry before I left. This could have all been avoided if the first lady did this to begin with. What should have been an hour and a half experience turned to almost 3 hours. Also I asked the first lady who did my pedicure if there was time to get a manicure today as well. She told me to ask reception cause she only knows her schedule. She never even bothered to inquiry for me, or help me out to see if there was any room for the service. Overall it wasn't the best birthday pedicure experience. I'm very thankful my boyfriend booked this for me but I was unhappy with how the experience turned out. ***Update: Shay the lady who did my pedicure who I referred to on my review called me today upon coming across my review, and sincerely apologized for what happened and was more than eager to make my experience better by offering me to come back and redoing the experience. I never write bad reviews in purpose to get free things out of people but to simply talk about an unpleasant experience in hopes the business can learn from it and never even thought they would reply or reach out to me. Just the fact that they called me back right away to apologize made me feel valued as a customer and feel more than just a dollar sign to them. I appreciate businesses like this and I look forward to coming back and having a better experience. Customer service is very important to me when it's comes to a business and just them calling back to apologize is enough for me to review them with 5 stars. read more

This salon forces you to get a fresh set when you see them but cannot accommodate appointments to maintain your manicure (only one employee at a nail salon knows how to do acrylic nails, saywut?) Amy did a good job the second time but my first set kept breaking due to an obvious lack of experience in acrylic. I love Kumi!! Having been around for almost a year now, Kumi has made quite the name for itself. Their gel nails are amazing and very comparable in pricing. All of their nail techs now are very professional and extremely talented. I saw Chantelle and she gave me my best set of nails I've ever had. She took her time to make sure all of them were even and perfect. Kumi also has guarantee that if your nails for any reason get messed up within a week, they will fix it for no charge. (I'm pretty sure they still have this policy as far as I know) My biggest problems when coming to Kumi is deciding on what colour or design I want another thing is that because they are so wonderful, they do book up quite fast. I would call as soon as you know your schedule and book in to make sure you can get the time you want. It takes about 2 hrs give or take, so clear your schedule for it :) it's definitely worth it! I love that they have free parking, if they didn't I probably would not come here since it's right downtown. Their space is modern and elegant and I love the art on the wall. Came here for the first time and highly recommend it! Hayley did my nails and I love them, she was really quick but my nails are done to perfection. They have a wide range of colours to choose from, they make sure you're happy with everything along the way and make sure that there's nothing you want to change. They had a promotion on so the price was very reasonable but they said it'll be back to normal for the next appointment. The only downside is that they are so busy so it's hard to get an appointment when you'd like it so you have to go with what they have. read more

Kumi has become my go-to nail place in the city. I've been going for the last year to have gel nails, fills and the occasional pedicure and I'm never leaving disappointed or unhappy. The space is gorgeous - a true artist's development and what's even more awesome is that one of their nail technicians (Amy) was actually the one who did all of the interior decorating, so it has a really beautiful and personal resonance. Prices at Kumi are competitive but on par with what you would expect for the quality of services they provide. I have seen two separate nail technicians and both of them took their time and provided the best nails possible. They are really interested in designing nails that you are happy with and are great at listening to give you a positive experience. Tools are autoclaved and many are only one-use per customer (super sanitary!). Customer service is top-notch - both of the owners are very friendly and professional. Once, I came in with a friend and a booking error had occurred (we were supposed to be booked for two pedicures at the same time, but only one was booked). They did a super awesome job of making sure both of us were taken care of and didn't just send us out the door, even though they are so intensely busy all the time. Only big downside about this nail salon is that they are so good, it's impossible to walk-in. An appointment is definitely a big must-have. I schedule my nail fills every three weeks and always make sure two are booked in the future. Definitely call to get an appointment and try not to be dismayed if they can't get you in for another few weeks - I promise, they are worth the wait! I have to say this nail salon is raising the bar for spa treatment. As a frequent spa goer I try to mix it up now given that I got played for a fool (for 6 yrs) by a large local spa chain and their points system but I think I've found a new place that is worth more than what they charge. So I'm confident in saying Kumi is totally going to be my new regular spot. I went there today for the Gracefully Be You pedi (reg. $65) and mani (reg. $45). My husband booked an appointment for me as a "treat yo self morning" because he frequents Ivory Noir (the sister salon owned by the same people that is right next door but they share the reception desk). Hands down I had the most relaxing time ever in a spa environment. The staff are amazing and the process was way better than any spa I have been to! Places like this are hard to come by---friendly, affordable, CLEAN, and those chairs......you need to go there just for those chairs. Trust me, it's like getting your nails done while being in a hammock. I'm not a tall girl (5'1"), about 160 lbs...so I have some love handles and wide hips...and I find those regular pedicure chairs to be super uncomfortable---the backs are never angled for a good massage or heat position and the side bars can make me feel like I'm on an airplane. But these chairs.... no side intrusion and you can adjust the head pillow to your level. They also give you a small back pillow and they have these super cool angled triangle pillows for your legs to sit up on while your polish dries. And what is even more PERFECT is that they totally did my mani while I pretty much slept in the chair. I also got to see their sanitation process in action (which I actually really appreciate seeing it out in the open). Anything stainless steel is sprayed with disinfectant (which I think is Accel TB) and sterilized in sealed pouches in a dental grade autoclave (I only know this because my sister is a dental hygienist and has taught me some of the stuff to look for in nail places). The files and brushes, (I think buffers and cuticle pushers, too) are sprayed and UV Sterilized. It's a nice feeling when they open up a sealed bag right before they are about to use it....kind of like at the dental office.The liner for my pedi water is even disposed of after use. I'm totally going to book a date there with my germ-o-phob sister next time! For me personally, I love the decor and the vibe I got being there. Modern, clean, minimalist design, very open space concept. The music was modern and not the typical classical (nothing is wrong with classical, I am a violinist myself but to ONLY hear classical music in a spa environment on loop with 12 tracks that aren't even good relaxing classical pieces is kind of annoying...plus most spas play classical/instrumental versions of top 40 songs now anyway). Kumi had a great play list going of top 40. It must have been satellite stream or something but it was a great fun yet relaxing choice of music. Everyone there is cheery and enthusiastic but not annoying. As well, they are not slaves to time. This small detail was super fascinating to me. I often feel like being turned over in time at certain chain spas is more important than your overall experience (you know...when the esthetician peeks over at the clock all the time and you feel guilty when they got you in late for your appointment when you arrived 15 minutes early). I know the girls here are watching the clock but there is no physical clock on the wall which helped me relax more. But it was sooo nice to not feel like a bother to be there! I don't know if no clock is on purpose...but I realized after the appointment I just wish I could have stayed in that chair longer. OH and they have the details down! Offered me a blanket---come on, that's like mind blowing...you don't get offered that at any other place! I didn't accept because I probably would have fallen asleep. I think you should go there sooner than later to take advantage of the open house discount, too. I know that even without the discount I am still planning on paying regular price. read more

I almost don't want to post this because I want this place to stay a secret so I can always get an appointment. I went today for the first time and called half an hour before. They were very friendly and accommodated for me and my friend to come in and get a mani and pedi. The salon has free parking, is very clean and really cute. The lady doing my nails did a great job they turned out great! For the price they are charging it is a steal! $30 for a "express" mani which included everything I would want! They even gave us free ice cream as well were leaving since it is a hot day out. I highly suggest this nail salon! read more

Love this place!! I'm very particular with my nails, and came here last night to get a set fixed that I wasn't happy with from someone else. The space is super cute and welcoming, very clean, and the receptionist was very friendly, offering me tea and a snack. My nail tech was Amy, and she did an amazing job; I usually go home after a nail appointment and break out the file to tweak the shape, but I didn't have to! Update: I contacted the company a couple weeks ago and they were very nice about the whole situation, booking me in to get a new set. Their normal policy for fixing any problems with the nails is 5 days, but they were kind enough to let me come in and get them redone since I was just on vacation. My first set of nails with Amy we're fabulous and lasted for four weeks. Every fill after that with another girl, after a week and a half my nails were lifting and jewels falling off. This is extremely disappointing happening time and time again. Especially when you're paying $90 plus dollars for your nails. Went in for a pampering foot treatment as part of our weekly date night with the hubby and we were blown away by the level of service and treatment we received. All the tools used were individually cleaned and sanitized and the environment was relaxing and comfortable. The people at Kumi Nail Beauty Bar know what a customer needs and go the extra mile by offering: a beverage of their choice, comfy chairs, a change of pants (should you needed it), in addition to a wide selection of current color trends that any savvy fashionista would have a hard time choosing from. The lady, who serves us Mireyeong was very pleasant, gentle and thorough with our treatment and gave us an awesome pedicure experience! In the end, we even received a little gift of our choice (hand cream or a mini nail polish... to help me decided what color I should choose next)! The shop is nice, but I paid $90 for bumpy half-assed nails. I already had a set on from somewhere else, but the lady said the 2 and a half hours wasn't long enough to remove them and put on a new set, so they couldn't guarantee my nail quality. Still ended up paying $90 for a set I'm not happy with and they already started chipping. If you're gonna over charge, then at least make sure the quality is worth it. read more

I honestly was debating if I should or shouldn't come to my appointment today because every other salon had always shave my nails so thin that it burns so much and the techs would always say "well then I can't do your nails your sensitive" I stopped getting my nails done for a while but my bf called kumi nails salon to book me a appointment for my bday because we live across the street and Everytime we drive by I say Id love to check that place out sometime! However as scared as I was going in the staff were actually awesome! Offered me water & to take my jacket, I only waited a minute to see my tech and when I explained to my tech my thin nail issue she was SUPER GENTLE I loved her and btw her work is amazing :) (my tech was Mireong) I'll forsure come back to see her.
