Hands down she said Kim was the best nail artisan she had ever met. His attention to detail was unsurpassed in her estimation. So when I was getting ready for my own wedding I decided to take my mom with me to get our manicures and pedicures done by someone who impressed one of my most hard-to-please friends. She was right: Kim took great care of my elderly and handicapped mother. She needed extra time and help getting into the pedicure chair and he was patient and warm. She was so chuffed by the work he did. She is in love with her nails and said her pedicure felt wonderful. I too had a manicure and pedicure. He was great! I don't often get pedicures since I usually can't be bothered to do anything else then just slap a coat of polish on my toes. However my roomie and I decided to treat ourselves to pedicures and this place came highly recommended and is close to home for us. They were open on a holiday which was awesome! The salon is cozy and welcoming, everyone was very friendly. The chairs are big and comfy, they let us watch whatever we wanted on Netflix. The atmosphere was great. The ladies were gentle and thorough with our pedicures. (At least mine was, I can't speak for my roommate and her ticklish feet). They had a huge selection of colors (we both got gel polish) choosing a color was probably the hardest part. Their work was impeccable reasonably priced. I called a couple days in advance and I was able to secure a booking for Friday night. The staff were very welcoming and the space is very clean and comfortable. We started out with manicures, then moved onto pedicures (regular polish, no shellac). Both ladies were lovely and very detail oriented. I wasn't super impressed with the place I went before the wedding, so I decided to give K Nails a try when they needed filling. Walking in the door, your really get a sense of how friendly the staff are and how much they care about their customers. The woman getting her nails done while I waited was not only on a first name basis with everyone, but also knew about their families. Amazing first impression. There are a huge amount of colours and patterns to choose from (I got ones that look like northern lights!) and they're happy to chat with you about your options if you're a newbie like me. The only issue I had was that they were originally trying to maintain my fake nails, which couldn't be done for how short I asked for them (the wedding claws were driving me nuts - I wanted a significant amount of length off). He ended up just filing off the gel and applying a shellac to my existing nail, but he had already spent about an hour working on the gel nails, so that felt like valuable time lost. In any case, they didn't charge me any extra and I ended up getting exactly what I wanted so I was more than okay with the initial mistake. The attention to detail was immaculate. I was really impressed with the time and effort that went into getting the nail tips correct to my liking. My only complaint is after a day, one of the nails chipped on the edge- which shouldn't happen with shellac. Either way, really impressed with this place!! Try K nails for your next nail needs, you won't be disappointed! Edit: Three days after I got these tips done, the shellac started to chip on the side of several nails. Apparently because it's your first time, you pay a higher price than regulars! I was told my stilettos would be $90. Kim did my nails, and I don't see the hype about him. Total of 3hr and 50mins. Only to get my nails done. Ridiculous. He struggled to get my nails even and proportionate. I had a bubble in my nail. My nails were bumpy and he kept trying to cover things up by piling on the nail polish thick to cover the uneven surface..... everything I asked for got thrown to the side. (Saying he understood when obviously didn't) On every nail he worked on... he worked on one left side better than the right which also makes the sides of the nails unproportionate!!! I started not to care anymore. Total waste of time. My nails look bulky and long. And somehow my nails don't have that natural curve to them, they somehow look like knives or press on nails my bf told me. Decent job with the pedi & the price was just right - they did try to upsell but that's pretty standard at most salons. My MIL ended up getting acrylic nails as she agreed to a mani as well - she thought she was getting gel polish, and it wasn't really explained to her (she complained that her nails were weak & splitting). I will be honest, I came in here reading all the glowing reviews, but was so disappointed after my visit! I wanted a design that consists of dots on it, girl said no problem. Okay, so she starts doing my nails and then after she is done, a guy comes to do the design and is like the colours(that i chose for the design) won't be seen on black nail polish, metallic would be better. Okay so he gets that, and seeing how nervous he was i asked him if another design would be easier which he agreed. And so he starts and it was worse than a 5 year old imitating the design. So we decided to scrap it and he suggested just using a glitter top coat to qhich I agreed and then does it on 2 fingers which looked good and I asked him if there was an extra charge for that and he's like 5 dollars for each finger! For a fricking glitter top coat??? So I passed on that, obviously! The reason I give this 5 stars still is because, its been a month and a half since my visit, my nails have grown, but the gel polish has held up so well, my hair doesn't get caught when i run my fingers through my hair, we've all been there, am I right ladies? I have been coming to K Nails for 3 years now, even though I don't live in the neighborhood anymore it's so worth the 2 buses I take to get there. Kim and Jenny are amazing, I always feel like an old friend when I go in. Their prices are very reasonable, their work is meticulous and I love their massage chairs! They also do reconstructive work which is really great if you've lost a nail due to running, accident, whatever. You'd never guess I'm missing a toenail, it's so cool watching Kim rebuild it! I came to K Nails with my mom and sister, great first impression as the space was bright and clean and we were greeted right away with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. The selection on polishes was great, had no difficulty finding one I liked. The pedicure massage chairs were amazing and we were promptly handed the remote control to the big screen TV. We booked the spa pedicures and sure got our $40 worth. They worked on us for almost 90 minutes when the advertised time is 60. The aestheticians was calm, gentle and very funny to sit and chat with. None of us experienced any scratches, nicks or cuts. They started on time and the colour selection was amazing!!! Literally the best I had ever seen. It was so hard to pick. Lol. I chose a very merry holiday. I think this place is legit a total waste of money. I showed pictures to the nail tech of some simple acrylic nails I wanted in light grey. After they were put on and I got to the front the owner (male I think Kim) told me my gel nails would be $92.00?. I told him they were acrylic and he tried to convince me they used some high tech powder that they have a patent for and that is why its so expensive. I did not entirely mind paying the price but being told something false as well as the website listing a full set as $70 something I'm not so okay with. The light gray also started to stain within a few days and looked filthy (I work in an office and wash my hands frequently). They did stay on for 4 weeks, as I wasn't going to go anywhere else and pay for a fill after spending $110 with tip. Won't be going back and have never since paid so much money for nails. read more
