I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Nailkeeper. I booked my appointment in advance, as I always do, expecting the same level of service I had received in the past. Instead, I was made to wait, then assigned to someone with little to no experience who completely messed up my pedicure; I actually had to finish it myself. On top of that, when she was gluing on my nail extensions, they were crooked. I ended up removing them altogether because they looked so bad. What made it worse was that instead of offering to fix the mistake or accommodate me properly, I was simply told, "Well, she's the only one available." That is unacceptable, especially for a service I booked ahead of time. To add context: my very first visit took nearly 4 HOURS for a basic set, and I left the salon at 11pm. Even then, I decided to give this place another chance and became a returning customer. But after this most recent, excruciating experience before a trip, I will not be coming back. If you value your time, money, and nails, I would strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Today was my first visit to The Nailkeeper and I couldn't be happier. When I arrived and showed the receptionist my reference photo, she consulted my original nail tech and then asked if I'd be willing to wait a bit longer for another technician as the original didn't think she could replicate the design. I much prefer the honesty over being unhappy with my nails. Heidi did my nails and she replicated the design perfectly. She was friendly and the salon was clean and beautifully decorated. Hi Van, While I appreciate your reply, I will clarify that the two experiences I mentioned in my review occurred a few months apart. I had an appointment set in February too, and I was still left waiting for 30+ minutes with no explanation or apology, when it was a "slower" time for business. I also had chosen a neutral shellac color at that time that the technician wasn't able to find a true replacement for, so it did turn out differently than expected, just like this time. Out of your 400 color choices, it would be nice to have replacements for your more popular neutral colors. Your reply was a nice little promo for your business and almost a true apology, but not quite. Sincerity goes a long way and it would have been truly great to receive a genuine reply, rather than an advertisement. Something that wasn't mentioned in my review was that I was overcharged for my service, which you did email me about. I won't be back to use the credit that should have just been put back on my credit card, but thanks anyway. Van, I really loved your business. And I've met you before and I really liked you! I'm a big supporter of local businesses in Edmonton and I have high standards for customer service. Unfortunately this whole experience has really disappointed me past the point of return. I'm surprised by all these reviews as I had a really great experience at the Nailkeeper salon. I ended up going there as I was part of a bridal party that booked a spa day here. One of the bridesmaids have great reviews and talked to the owner about booking for a private function. We were able to go on a Sunday night after close so we had the whole salon to ourselves. With the purchase of a liquor license we were able to bring in our own booze which we of course accompanied with food. The salon had a great bar-like setup! We were all able to rotate between nails and pedis. Now for the service. I got a set of acrylic nails with shellac. All the tools are very clean and they have a great color selection. I liked that they had a nail "legend" so that you were able to get the shape of nail that you want! The girl was very precise and didn't mind when I wanted to interrupt here for a drink :) I would definitely go back. The owner was great- always filling up our drinks and making sure we had a good time. She shared all the neat co ventures the salon is involved in such as yoga and pedi and reading time with kids! read more

After attempting to use their booking system online I thought I should maybe call and see if there was an appointment that would suit my needs a little better. Lucky for me they could take me in just 20 mins. Yay!! When I arrived I was immediately greeted by 2 sweet Asian ladies. They knew who I was and offered to hang up my coat and asked if I wanted a tea or coffee. It took about 1.5 hours to do my nails, a little longer than anticipated. However my nail tech Heidi took the time and attention to detail really showed in the end. Their selection of polishes and gel colours is huge and you'll have a difficulty choosing! When I lived downtown I was going on a regular basis for mani's and pedi's and never had any issues. However, I hadn't been in a year or so and found myself with some time to spare I figured I'd try to get a mani with shellac. They were able to fit me in and the place was completely packed so that was nice. However, while getting my nails done the lady that was doing them cut my skin on three different fingers while doing my cuticles, and then ran off to take a phone call on her personal cell. While I appreciate the fact they were able to squeeze me in, I was disappointed by the decline of service, and will be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more

I have been here several times, always hoping they will redeem themselves but they simply haven't and i will not be returning. They don't believe in quality. I was given a speed manicure that was bumpy and half my nails weren't covered. Of course They rush you out of there so fast I didn't notice until I was long gone. They have cut my hands on multiple occasions due to lack of attention. Of course when doing shellac nails this means under the lamp it feels like your nails are burning due to the cuts. I was cringing. An unpleasant experience. They make any attempt to rip you off. It's sad that you have to question this but always confirm the price. Not happy! I've been here a couple of time and the results were decent. But like others I have made appointments online prior only to come in and wait on one occasion an hour! Staff had me chose a color on the one occurrence and I ended up sitting at the tech desk for what seemed like an eternity. I didn't say anything because I would have thought they knew I had an appointment? The appointment mishaps have happened every single time so now I would just walk in and try and get my nails done without bothering to book online. seriously don't bother! My big complainant and reason for this review is because when I went for a pedicure (booked and walked in just to see if I would be confirmed) lol don't worry I wasn't confirmed till an hr after walking in. I went to The Nailkeeper because of location to get my gel nails filled on September 21st. The set looked great so I was happy, but two weeks later, 2 of the gel nails completely fell off out of nowhere! No trauma or anything - just poof - gone! The Nailkeeper will only do repairs within 4 days so I decided it was going to be too much money (over $60 after tip for a fill) if they were just going to fall off, and I booked into have my nails removed. Because of multiple surgeries, I've had gel nails removed a few times in the past, and let me tell you, this experience was the absolute worst. Had I known the technician was just going to pry the nails off with a tool that looked much like a letter opener, I wouldn't have paid to have them removed. I could have further damaged my nails myself. I actually winced out loud a few times because she was prying so hard it hurt like crazy, and then my original nails were ripped midway through the nail bed. When I told her that I'd never had them removed like this she said this was why she doesn't like to remove nails. You'll even notice some bruising from it. She tried to say two of my nails were lifting and that I should have come in immediately to have them repaired, but yet they those two nails were the ones she had to put the most effort in removing and caused the most pain. The receptionist (who was so nice and wonderful to deal with) told me to email the manager with photos and explain everything that happened, so I did and unfortunately the response I received was pretty passive aggressive basically stating that they are accepting of constructive criticism, yet no responsibility was taken. They said the employee who was prying my nails off said my nails were weak underneath the gel. After this experience, I won't return. My nails are a wreck and I paid over $75 for them to end up like this. read more

While my previous review was for a pedi... I recently got a mani and now feel the need to lower my rating by another star. On the plus side, they were able to fit me in with very little notice - I called ahead and took an opening a half hour later. On the downside, my manicurist was trying to be friendly... but just wasn't. She critiqued my super short nails but didn't say much else. Yes, my nails are short, but, as I explained to her, I needed them shaped so they would grow out better. She didn't do the best job of shaping them... I'm still going to have to fix up one nail that has been bothering me and I was hoping to not have to deal with. And the polish job was pretty bad... 2 days later and it peeled off of one nail entirely. She also did some sort of massage of my hands and up my lower arms, and it HURT. And was super awkward. I'm not sure where you're supposed to look while your a foot from somebody manhandling your wrists. While I still might go back for a pedi, mani's are definitely off the table here. At the ripe old age of 29 I had still never had a pedicure, so a girlfriend and I finally made good on a ladies' afternoon and went to The Nailkeeper for pedis. She had been before and had a really nice experience. I checked out their services online beforehand and was impressed with their website. When I first walked into the salon it looked quite like a regular salon, but then I started to notice the cute little touches like nice pillows on the couches in the waiting area, signs and artwork with inspirational sayings, and ads for a weekly kids reading afternoon, which I thought was a fabulous idea! I settled into the pedi chair, which was also an awesome, comfy massage chair. The lady who did my pedicure (wish I could remember her name) was really friendly and did a great job on my feet. Like I said, it was my first time, but it really didn't tickle at all. My girlfriend had a mani after so I just chilled with her, and once she was done we sat at the counter with tea and chatted. I thought it was really cool that there are little fans installed in the counter at foot height to help dry your toes. There are a few options for pedicures, with the most basic one starting at $37. That seemed a bit pricey to me but as I said, I have nothing to compare it to. They do offer stamp cards, where you get a stamp each time you spend a certain amount ($20 and $50), and after x amount of stamps you receive $20 or $30 off a service, which is a nice extra feature. So why am I only giving a three-star review? It would have been four right up until the end. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and while it was busy, it wasn't packed or overflowing with customers. My girlfriend and I don't see each other that often and we were having a nice time just relaxing and talking. There was a staff member behind the counter named Asia (sp?) who was taking calls and payments, etc. We were still drinking our tea and clearly in the midst of a conversation when she came over to us and said something along the lines of "So do you want to pay now orrr...?". We were both taken pretty aback by this as we weren't giving any indication that we wanted to pay and there was nobody behind us waiting for us spots. She then proceeded to ask my friend (whose nails were still wet) if she wanted her to get her wallet out of her purse for her! My friend, now feeling rushed, reached into her purse for her wallet. Her nails weren't completely dry and her fresh manicure instantly got messed up. I told her to say something or ask them to fix it but she's too nice so she didn't worry about it too much. I'm not sure why Asia felt the need to rush us out of there and leave a bad taste in our mouths. I would hope that front end staff of any establishment would be able to read their clients and use a little common sense and courtesy when dealing with customers. Her attitude would not keep me from returning to The Nailkeeper as the rest of the experience was good. I wish I had a better experience at this place. It is right by my house and the owner of the shop did seem nice. It's cute inside. But I went to get my current gel nails off and a new set. I didn't event continue to get the new set because while taking off my old nails, the technician made my cuticle bleed. It hurt so much. I kept telling her but she just said my cuticle was dry and put a solution on it that made it burn more. I ended up just asking her to apply polish and left. My friends and I wanted to get some pedicures done so I called to see if I could get a reservation here on a Saturday at 1. They did and could get us all in at once! Perfect. We showed up and they were ready for us to soak our feet in their comfy massage chairs and plastic disposable liner clad tubs. I haven't come across lined pedicure runs in this city before but I highly recommend it! Only one technician was ready for us at the time but we were not in a hurry so my friends had an extra long soak while their techs finished up their prior appointments. I did notice that other people came in after us for their appointments and were kept waiting. I guess the salon was running behind today. Our basic pedicures included trimming, cuticle work, callus removal, foot and leg scrub, polish and moisturizer. My nails were painted carefully, no touch ups needed and it was all done quickly. If you're not in a hurry and need extra time to dry your toenails, they have fans set up at the drying bar. The staff were polite and worked efficiently. I would come back to try out out some other services or for another pedicure. I noticed they had a near program where you could come for a pedicure and your kid would be entertained with a story and snacks while they wait. It's one Sunday a month. I asked for rose gold chrome nails and came out with gold glitter, also started peeling off which shouldn't for shellac. My last time I went here (2017) the lady cut up my cuticles so bad they bled forever, the colors i kept going for were all dried out. I made a reservation for an acrylic set. When I told them about the appointment they didn't acknowledge it, when they sat me down the technician began doing a gel nail set. Didn't matter much to me so I didn't say anything. During the process though, the technician was very rough and didn't seem to care at all as she was chatting and looking around the room most of the time. She burned my cuticles with the file. She didn't ask me about designs or anything. She just showed me some coloured tips. At one point the other technician actually sat down next to her and they just started talking for 25 minutes while she was doing my nails. Terrible customer service. Way to make a client feel insignificant. When it was done I began to notice that one of my pinky nails is significantly shorter than the other. My ring fingers are crooked. The surface of some of my nails are very uneven. There are also rough spots and bubbles. I actually had to file the bubbles down myself and apply my own gel polish over top of it. Cute and clean little salon close to Grant Macewan. Cosy atmosphere with a comfy couch to sit on if you have to wait (which I didn't ). I recommend making an appointment and coming during the week for the best experience. As others have said the pedicure tubs have a disposable lining in them and every tool the technicians use are wrapped - straight from a sterilization machine it looks like. The pedicure itself was wonderful. Nice massage chairs . I don't like a rough touch and my technician was very gentle. The foot and leg massage she gave me was so relaxing. She didn't aggressively cut my cuticles or my nails too short either. What I liked the best was that the owner personally greeted me and kept coming over to see how I was doing. I think I'm beyond giving this place chances. I like the environment, the convenience and the friendliness of the place. I specially love the massage chairs. So what's the problem? They tend not to listen. I've been coming here for about 2 years to do pedis. And every time, I tell them to just keep the nails cut straight and do not cut the sides of the nails. I've been trying to prevent my nails from ingrowing even worse than they are. And ive had some success. The first rule is do not cut the sides and file them straight. So I do that at home and it really makes a difference. And anyone who's an esthetician knows that cutting the sides of toenails can lead to ingrown toenails. Yet here, I tell them at the beginning and they end up doing it anyway. Usually its not bad and i can just file it straight within two weeks. But today, i told the girl just to file them into shape and do not cut. She ended up cutting the sides off all the way to the root. I was too shy to say anything and the damage was already done. I left with my feet stinging and not relaxed at all. I'm actually very concerned about how much more my nails will be ingrown by the time they grow out and whether I'll have to get corrective surgery. If you are struggling with ingrown toenails or have special needs when it comes to your feet, do not go here. read more

My first visit was on the first Day open after COVID lock down, I was very much looking forward to an hour of quiet solitude and relaxation. Although this is not a spa, my expectation of serenity was quickly gone. The pedicure chairs are right at the front door and across from the cash register. And unfortunately the manager chose to have a very long rather loud conversation with clients for almost 30 minutes of my one hour treatment. And while I was looking forward to tuning out the bombardment of news headlines, I got to listen to more of the same in this conversation. Instead of relaxing and tuning out the outside stresses of the day, I was rather disturbed and agitated by the noise in this small place. The treatment was good and service satisfactory. I am sorry to say the ambience was definitely lacking. I should have used ear buds and listened to my own music I guess. When I sat down, Heidi started to remove my old acrylic nails with her drill machine and then proceeded to use her fingernails to pick off the lifted parts. I asked her not to use her fingernails because it isn't SANITARY and she kept doing it and I kept saying to her; don't use your fingernails; please use a tool. She then dug out a tool (unsterilized) out of her drawer and used that. I should've called the lady at the front over to explain to Heidi what sanitary meant. She then pulled out her gel and I explained to her that I was there for an acrylic fill. I will never go back to Heidi again. Will try a new lady there. The customer service was just okay. The lady manning the desk went around asking if everybody was okay every now and then. However, the lady doing my nails had disappointing costumer service. I showed the lady pictures of what kind of nails I wanted - gel nails with a marble design that had accents of silver throughout. She started with painting my nails white and then adding black streaks, which she blurred. Then she started adding red glitter polish, which completely confused me because the pictures I showed her had absolutely no red glitter polish so I have no idea why she started using that. When she asked me what I thought of it I said that I wanted silver polish - which is what is in the pictures - so she got some silver polish and started just making random streaks everywhere. At this point she'd already put the red glitter polish on all the nails of one hand and thus had to even this out by doing the same to the other hand. After this she asked me how they were looking and if I wanted anything else. I said that I expected them to be darker like the pictures - at this point my nails were still very white. She responded that those colours wouldn't look good with my complexion and that is why we should just keep it how it was. I had no idea what to say to that so I didn't say anything. I guess from seeing that I obviously wasn't all that happy she tried to appease me by adding more black streaks and blurring them however, she went over it with the topcoat too quickly and ended up making an ugly and large black streak through the nail. What really annoyed me was when she said, "See this is why I didn't want to add more black because it does not look nice!" Sorry lady but it is not the black that ruined my nails - and my mood. I should mention that I did my research before by checking if marble designs were part of the portfolio at the Nailkeeper and the pictures that are on their instagram page insinuated that they are. Maybe only a few of the ladies are actually trained to do the marble design and to be honest I would have just learned to tolerate the nails that I left with - after all the lady did TRY to do the design I asked for. However, the quality of my manicure itself is abysmal. The edges aren't even - as in my nails and the edges of the fake nails they used do not match up. Also the polish doesn't even reach the sides of my nails. In addition there's a lot of glue between my nail and the skin on my fingers, which is just really annoying. I'm normally one for second chances - after all like I said maybe not all the ladies are trained in this design however, for $90 it is just not worth it. I wish the lady had told me to pick a different design in the beginning. At least then I could have left feeling like I didn't totally waste my money. read more

I went for the "Herbal Pedicure" with my sister. The description is very different than the experience. They say, "You will be presented with a tray of herbs and your nail keeper can combine then to create a signature recipe for you". The tray of herbs was worn plastic basket with uncleanly essential oil bottles inside. You got to pick one and add it to your foot bath. I was waiting for the herb tray the entire hour. When I reached the cash, I let the receptionist know that we didn't receive the tray. She said that it was the basket of oils and what was I expecting? I came here due to everywhere else being closed and I was pleasantly surprised. Super hygienic, pretty meticulous with their work and wine! Aside from the excellent job they did on my pedi, the decor was great, massage chairs and lack of chemical smell ( not that I hate that smell). FYI Don't pay attention to that girl who posted the photo with the two length of nails. Any nail expert knows that the length is determined by your nail bed aswell. So a nail tech may very well give you two different lengths the ensure your entire nail has the same length from critical to tip. Great place, great price and highly recommended a read more

This is by far my favourite nail salon in the city. Fantastic customer service, talented 'nailkeepers' and the cleanest, most sanitary salon practices I've experienced. I often go for pedicures with my sister and we are never kept waiting longer than 5 mins while the staff gets ready for us and let's us choose our polish. The staff always takes their time ensuring our gel pedicures are done perfectly and to our satisfaction. On our last visit my sister noticed the colour or her polish running slightly into the nail art design but it wasn't a big deal to her. But the staff as well as the owner took the time to fix it and make sure that she was totally happy. They really stand by their work and we keep coming back because of positive experiences like that! This has become my go to place for pedicures, and the odd manicure when I go on holidays. The prices are very reasonable, and the quality of service is great. Used to pay much more at high end salons and not walk out near as happy as I am after leaving the Nailkeeper. I like that they use disposable liners, sterilized equipment that they open in front of you, and the massage chairs are great. The salon has a trendy feel to it, and staff are friendly, usually offering a beverage, or once they even gave me pizza! I usually have my nails done by Vivian, who is very sweet and friendly, and has a great attention to detail. I never feel like she is cutting corners or trying to rush me out, even when I can tell the salon is busy. I brought a picture for her to recreate, and my nails actually ended up looking nicer than the picture I had brought in. Will definitely continue to come back. The only thing I can say I was disappointed in was that when I was paying the person in front of me was using a stamp card. I asked if I could have one since I have been a few times now. They said they are honouring the cards that are already out but not giving them out anymore. Too bad :( read more
