Krustaceans Seafood is in the location of the former Bayleaf Indian Restaurant and Bar. The location is next door to a parking garage that provides free parking for 2 hours. The restaurant is on the corner of New Hampshire St and 10th St. The garage parking is a big advantage for this location downtown. Another advantage is the moderate prices for drinks. For example, glasses of wine are provided from small individual bottles of Barefoot brand California wine at the lowest prices I have seen in Lawrence restaurants. In June 2024, a glass of wine is only $3 at this seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, they do not have broiled, grilled, or baked seafood, only fried and boiled. We got both boiled and fried shrimp and fried fish along with fried ocra and with various interesting sauces. I would guess that the fish were probably small catfish. They were very fresh. The fried fish, shrimp, and ocra were excellent, as were the sauces. The boiled shrimp were OK, but nothing special. I was puzzled by some of the reviews I've seen complaining about high spice level. Neither the batter on the fried food nor any of the sauces we tried were excessively spicy. In fact, we were very happy with the spice levels. Let me start by saying that I had read good reviews and had wanted to try it. We went down for lunch today and it FAR surpassed my hopes!! The food was beyond perfect. The fish and okra had the perfect crispy with no grease whatsoever! The flavor exceeded my expectations. I'm not a huge fan of fish but I could eat their's every single day, it's THAT good! The platters are served with sausage, boiled egg, corn and potatoes. The young lady at the counter, as well as the chef, both understood what good customer service is - something that is despairingly lacking in today's society. The prices are VERY reasonable!! Especially for a seafood restaurant!! They have lots to choose from, including crab and lobster. You order at the counter, go pick out your table then sit there and relax. If you are looking for ambiance or true table service, this probably is not where you want to go. It's kind of plain on the inside. You place your order at the front register & get your own drinks. The food is brought to the table & they did stop by a couple times to see if everything was ok. If you are looking for fabulous seafood, this is the place to go. I had a Cajon seafood boil & my fiance had fish & chips. There was enough that we each made 3 meals out of our dishes. The food was hot & delicious. Don't go here if you want to have a quiet conversation. The music was so loud we could not really hear each other talk. The tables were not clean and the booth I sat on was dirty. My husband thought the food was worthy of 4 stars and I thought it was worth 2 or less, so I'm leaving 3 stars. He liked his crab legs but thought they were very small. He liked the corn, potatoes and shrimp in the boil. I got a waffle and shrimp. My fried shrimp was so spicy I could not eat it. The waffle was good but nothing to brag on. Not for the price. Went there last night, got two platters (3 clusters snow crab legs, 15 shrimp, 2 corn on cob, 2 eggs, lots of potatoes) drenched in garlic parmesan butter. There were 4 of us and we were all stuffed! Very good, bill with drinks and tip about $114. Everything well cooked. Only thing I would do different next time will be to bring my own crab crackers. We were super excited to try this but have to say, not impressed. The butter for dipping was awful and when I requested just plain butter was told they dont have any as the sauces are all premixed. People have said this is the best seafood in Lawrence and I would have to agree. I've only had delivery but am anxious to visit the place in person. Not my 1st visit but my last. The 1st time I had mediocre fish & chips. Companions had crab boil and weren't pleased. On my second visit I tried the crab boil. It is NOT for me. I've had crab boil many times, but privatly, not at an eating establishment. Did not like the seasoning. Did not like the sausage. Corn was flavorless. Shrimp were a little tough and only tasted of the seasoning. The lame excuse of a plastic shell cracker is a joke. Hense the bent tines on the forks. Besides crab legs were so skimpy they were not worth the effort to bother with them. A crab boil intended for 2 people & 3 drinks was over $60. Even accounting for them being a new business their service was lacking. They fill orders out of order, the containers leak all over the place before they even hand it to you, they arent insuring that orders are accurate. We ordered 3 seafood platters. One didnt have sausage and one, instead of having 10 shrimp, had ONE!!! How was that miscounted? I brought this to their attention. They wanted to know how they could make it right. I said a free platter. That was a week ago ago, I havent heard anything else from them. We will get our crabs from Krab Kingz in the future. read more

This was our 5th time eating here and probably our last. We try to give restaurants several chances since service, prices, and suppliers can vary, but this place has never figured it out. Seafoodboil is just mediocre. Not bad, but not anything special. If I am paying $50 for a seafood platter, I shouldn't have to squeeze ketchup from little packets! Sysco generic brand ketchup at that! Same with malt vinegar. How does a seafood restaurant run out of tarter sauce? Send someone to the store to buy 3-4 ingredients to make it yourself. It will be better than the packets anyway. One star was because their fried fish was really good. 3 of the 5 visits they had homemade signs saying they were unable to serve alcohol. All their frozen drink machines had product in them, but they weren't running, which I can only assume is a health violation. Server/cashier was nice, but we were only one of two tables with customers in the entire restaurant for about 1 1/2 hours. The screen on the countertop electronic credit card receipt was set to 20%, 25% and 30% as pre-suggested tips. They are suggesting you heavily tip at Counter Service? Prior to receiving your food? That's crazy! I really hope for a successful seafood restaurant for Lawrence, unfortunately this isn't it. This place has only a limited time before it closes. read more

Tried them tonight for the first time and we'll definitely be back! The service was great! I had the fried shrimp and it had a really flavorful breading. Had the Cajun seasoning on my crinkle fries and that was good too. My boyfriend had the Lighthouse platter and thought it was good. I tried his shrimp and corn, which was sweet and delicious. They had fruit slushy machines but didn't have booze yet so we'll come back for that. read more

This would be my Wife and I second time and the first time we waited very long for our meal. We got our meal and didn't know why we had tipped 20% when the waitress all she did was deliver our meal. Krustaceans is my favoutite restaurant because they have affordable prices, price worthy food, and a clean environment. As a family we thought we would try Krustaceans and I do not regret it at all. It has become a bi-weekly choice of dinner. You might wanna have an ambulance or pacemaker on standby because you will eat it all, feel sick, regret it, and go back the next week. It is absolutely addicting and would not replace anything for it. The owner is super friendly and the employees make sure that your experience is worth the time. Masks are required and are Staff required to disinfect surfaces between visits. I has dine in but only for a short time and these little cute buckets to put your food trash in. I am absolutely in love with this place, It has a price worthy menu and the food is super filling. The Bayside Platter includes things like Shrimp, Crab, Potatoes, Boiled egg, a sausage, and corn on the cob. As always, you can request more of an item. They have 5 butter flavors which are Original, Spicy, Cajun, Lemon Pepper, and Garlic Parmesan. I would recommend staying away from the Fish, Chips and shrimp combo tho, It is super high in carbs, gives me a heart burn and it is super filling (You have nothing to worry about if you don't care about the nutritional facts). Make sure to ask for less butter because they put tons of butter in the Bayside Platter, it pretty much like soup. You can get the Bayside Platter for only $13, fish chips and shrimp for roughly $13.89 Krustaceans is one of the best restaurants in Lawrence. It has a full menu, filling food and a routine safety measure. It just opened up in March and is already my favourite. Their safety precautions are incredible and they have carry out. They have these neat coloured crab splitters that make it easy to where you don't have to use your finger to pry it open. Their Red Velvet Waffles come with an itty bitty witty container of crushed Pecans and they are delightful. That is why I had to rate it a 5 star. You have the option of drinks ranging from Tea, Piña Colada, Mango, and some more I can't think of. This place is BUSSIN', makes me wanna tear open a gigantic bag of crab.Amazing, there are over 40 different options to choose from. Also, make sure to brush your teeth or get mints because no one wants to smell that nasty fish breath of yours. Never been here before. First of all, its incredibly expensive. I ordered two plates and they topped at $52.00! I had the fried shrimp plate. There was so much salt on everything that I could hardly eat my meal. I was expecting a different type of batter and I realize that some people have different tastes with this regard. It was really not to my liking at all. I am not used to eating fried shrimp with a extremely thick and hard batter around it. I really wanted to eat something non-fried but it was not on the menu. When I was leaving, I mentioned this to the lady behind the counter and they said that I could have a ordered boiled shrimp if I wanted to. Why isn't that on the menu? The more expensive plate was actually the crab leg plate. The crab legs were OK, with a little bit of corn and sausage and potato thrown in as well. Terribly overpriced.
