Every time I've taken friends and family here, it's been a great experience! I was surprised by the ratings when I came to write a review. The sushi is excellent-- reasonably priced and the quality had been fresh every time I've ordered it. I love the mango salmon roll every time and the Thai tea is perfection. This restaurant has beautiful interior that reminded me of when I visited Thailand. To me, this place almost seems more authentic because they don't provide much customer service. As long as the food is delicious, I don't mind how I'm being treated as long as I'm not being forced to eat my food quickly or anything. My first time here on a recommendation from a coworker. Had kapaow, lunch special. First off, temperature wise, everything was served extremely hot, so test before stuffing yourself with yummy thai food. Lunch special came with a spring roll & miso soup. The spring roll was tasty, crispy and pleasant. However the miso soup had seen better days... ;) but I ate it, it was warm & it was cold outside. Now on to the main course, the kapaow had the spicy kick I love, plenty of chicken & it was really good. I really enjoyed it. First time visiting this location for a quick lunch break. I was super excited to try out this new location located right next to The Wharf. Parking is on a first come first serve basis so it's better to UBER as they are still doing heavy construction. The restaurant is located on the back side of the Arris closer to the waterfront. The outside has the name in large black iron script. When you walk in, there's nothing special about the decor. Looks like your average Asian restaurant. Wooden check in desk, and wooden tables scattered around the restaurant. The restaurant is rather large, and spacious. The customer service is not very friendly or knowledgeable of the items served on their menu. The staff member was already taken aback when three African American women entered. Barely any greeting, no eye contact, and a bit of disgust showed. The host was surprised we were there and quickly called another host to the stand for either back up or moral support. When asked did they have egg rolls, one was directed to the spring rolls. The front desk host got very upset when asked questions about the different rolls and what you can and cannot do. For my first visit this ruffled my feathers and left a bad taste in my mouth. In addition to the demeaning comments that were said underneath his breath. Decided not to order but had to wait for my classmates food. Was rudely told that I couldn't sit at the table that I chose. So I decided to just record the unfair treatment. This must've upset the host as he began to record me as well and told me to call my lawyer. I simply chuckled. As I got up to leave and said thank you so much have a great day the host suddenly runs to me with his phone. If I did not back up he would not have hit me with his phone. Horrible service. Walked into the restaurant at 8:45, and the website says it closes at 10:00. Plenty of time to eat a quick meal at the bar. The hostess turned me around and said that the kitchen was closed, but I could order food to-go. If the kitchen is really "closed" 1 hour and 15 minutes before closing, how are they facilitating to-go orders? They sell sushi that is questionable and this restaurant is a classic example of providing average to less than average food with faux asian decorations so that the majority of patrons can feel like they are eating authentic Asian food and then overcharge because the location is good and most people will be in a good mood and less critical. To add onto the misery the "children" that run this restaurant are rude AF. I went to dinner with my mother and other family and because of the pandemic , we were literally the ONLY people in the restaurant. It was still cold and we wanted to have some hot water. "No have hot watah!" the waitress curtly responded. "No hot water? " I wanted to clarify. "You have to pay $2.00". I went through all the logical questions to see why we would get charged $2 for something that would otherwise be free if it was a just room temperature. I guess she didn't feel very good after all the questions about over priced hot water and so when we did order she arbitrarily told us that they were out of what we ordered. Then again and again until we realized we were being told to leave. I know its the pandemic and things are hard but there is no reason to operate like this. As someone who has lived and traveled Asia for 15 years and recently came back- I am shocked there are restaurants like this. I write this to the public to prevent any unneeded stress. Gauging from other reviews, my experience of rudeness by the staff and bad customer service is cleary not unique. To the management - don't be so arrogant . Your food is stale and flavorless and your staff is rude to the people who keep you in business. Why do you even operate a restaurant- so you can just take peoples money with delivering the bare minimum?? Do everyone a favor and close your doors. You don't like your customers and your Thai food is so underwhelming. I am sure you can do better in a place that is not as big (you are never full anyways). Sometimes it's beneficial to revisit places that you've written off. I visited this place a few years ago and was overall unimpressed. I decided to try again today for lunch after checking out some of the recent reviews. I ordered the Basil fried rice with chicken and a Thai iced tea for carryout. The rice was very flavorful with just the right amount of spice (level very spicy). The only issue I had was that all of my bell peppers were cold. After tasting two I removed all of the rest of the dish. It didn't take much away from the dish but I obviously would of preferred that the peppers were hot and cooked with the meal. The rice also came with a spring roll since it was a lunch special. It was okay, nothing special. The Thai iced tea was perfect. As many others noted, the inside was pretty empty. I did notice that the seats still nicely spaced out so if you want to dine inside and still have concerns about Covid you may feel a bit more comfortable here. Dining in experience: Pros: Food was excellent. We had the Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles and Panang Curry and it was delicious. Nigiri sushi was good too. Tip: Order a side of chili powder to make sure you get it to the spice level you want. Otherwise it may be bland. I even had left over pad thai and the next day it was even better! Highly recommend. Cons: 1) Ambiance. We ate there on a Saturday night at 8pm and the place was EMPTY. Kruba needs to desperately work on their in dining ambiance: a side TV was tuned to the golf channel (on a Sat night) on full blast while you could also hear conflicting music blaring from kitchen. Clashing sounds. Not relaxing at all, especially when commercials were blaring. Mind you, the place was empty so it echoed. 2) Overly cautious (COVID) dining experience by Kruba to the point of frustration for customers. Example: Kruba served us our food on real ceramic plates and gave us real silverware to use, but when it came to drinks, they gave us plastic cups to use. We ordered hot sake and they no kidding gave us 12 oz plastic cups to drink our hot sake out of. (What?!) We asked for real sake ceramic cups and they said no- "due to the health inspector they can't serve real cups". Ummmm - everywhere else in Navy Yard (District Winery, Etc) is serving drinks in real glass cups/glasswear. It was bizzare. We wanted sake with our meal and were already committed. We then asked for to-go soy sauce cups to drink our hot sake out of, while dining in. Very awkward, but worked. It was much better than drinking hot sake out of 12 oz plastic solo cups. Pro tip: order ceramic soy sauce bowls to drink your sake out of or bring your own shot glass. They gave us those but not actual sake drinking cups. Strange. In summary: really great Thai food (remember to ask for extra spice if you are nervous about having bland food). The in-dining experience desperately needs attention. Not sure how they are staying in business during COVID19 - maybe everyone just orders take out? No restaurant in Navy Yard should be empty at 8pm on a Saturday night, but this one was. I hope they address the cons to make it a better in dining experience for the customer. Has so much potential to be great in Navy Yard. The delivery person left the order at the front desk and did not wait for a handoff. This is all fine, but then he called my cell number and asked how I wanted to leave a tip. I gave him an amount and he said "only $X". I said yes. There was a long pause and then I asked if that was all he needed to know. He reiterated the amount with shock. When I confirmed again he told me to not order delivery next time. I am a former waitress and never had I demanded a bigger tip from a table. This was extremely disrespectful. And if he wants the cash tip next time, maybe he should stick around for the hand off. This driver also called another time to demand a tip when my boyfriend ordered delivery. These experiences have put a sour taste in my mouth for Kruba. Food: I like their Thai food, especially their soups, curries and Pad Thai. I recommend the Mango Curry. They have multiple spiciness levels for almost every dish, so you can customize it to your preference. This restaurant is quite large, so there are plenty of tables. Came here on a Saturday evening and although there were several customers here, there was no wait. Decided to order the drunken noodles with chicken and the seafood fried rice. The seafood fried rice comes with some scallops, shrimps, and squid. The drunken noodles were a little spicier than anticipated, but still enjoyable. Both dishes came with diced carrots. The fried rice had a few cucumbers which was nice. Both dishes were a good amount of food, which was satisfying. Service was very good. Food was brought out within 15 minutes of ordering, and water was refilled regularly. Some interesting artwork in here as well, various Thai/Asian statues I suppose. There are a few TVs by the bar area, so you could watch the Nats game while eating if you choose. With the special you will get one spring roll, a bowl of miso soup and your choice of entree (which for me was the vegetarian panang curry). I usually skip over the egg rolls at restaurants since nothing can compare to my homemade cha gio/lumpia hybrid (I don't like to toot my horn that much but oh em gee its a-mah-zing) BUT Kruba does a pretty good Thai style rendition and I ended up gobbling the whole thing up. The panang curry was chock full o' sweet, delicious, crunchy veggies which contrasted to the spicy, peanutty curry sauce. They aren't playing around with the spice levels here...this was the real deal! Two or three glasses of water later I was completely and utterly satisfied. What sticks out to me about this restaurant is the beautiful wooden statues and pillars that adorn the restaurant. A great deal of thought was put into the presentation of everything...right down to the intricately carved wooden box our check came in. Service was attentive and the owner even came by to make sure that everything was A-OK. Unlike the other reviewers on here, I had no problem getting seated so I guess it really depends on the day you go. I was in the area for a fashion related event and knew I wanted to stop somewhere for lunch. I did a little research online and checked out the Yelp reviews on some of the neighboring places like BlueJacket/The Arsenal, Osteria Morini and Agua 301, but decided to settle on Kruba Thai and Sushi. They open at noon on Saturday's, so when we went in an hour after, it was almost empty - for a few minutes we even had the restaurant to ourselves. I took my mom to lunch. For Appetizers we had Spring Rolls (Kruba style). It came with some sweet sauce and it was very good. For Entrée, my mom had Goong Garlic (shrimp with garlic sauce served with steamed mixed vegetables) and she enjoyed her dish. It also came with white rice (my mom said that if she had known it came with rice, she would have gotten brown rice, but she settled because it was jasmine rice). I had the Kruba Thai Cashew Chicken (sautéed with roasted cashew nuts in a special sauce) and it came with rice too. You have the choice to get it with either Chicken or Shrimp. Overall it was good although it was swimming in the sauce, but I was pleased with my order. This was my first time coming to this area and when I go back, I will try out their restaurant again. To me, it was affordable and they had choices I liked. You can either go Thai or Sushi and we went for Thai on this visit. I've recently relocated from L'enfant Plaza to a spot near the Navy Yard/Nationals stadium for work. I was a little bummed out that we moved out there because now that L'enfant has sorta kinda come alive with new restaurants and also has access to Penn Quarter, I now have next to no choices at this new location. Well, I was brought here by a coworker one day. And it is nice to know that a Thai restaurant exists on this side of town. The dining room is clean, contemporary and well lit. The service has been pretty attentive. They've got a nice lunch time special for around $11 which includes a small bowl of miso soup, entree and egg roll. The soup is decent. The egg or summer roll is fried fresh and has a nice about of meat/vegetable ratio. I ordered the drunken noodles or Kee Mao and it was pretty good. It had a nice amount of spice, the noodles were fat and spongey and the portion size was decent. Less that what you would get at other places, but decent. The lunch crowds haven't been overwhelming so I've been able to get a table with no wait. This is probably the best choice for lunch in the area. For $11.95 you get: ~a small bowl of miso soup - it had chunks of tofu and seaweed pieces ~1 spring roll - fried and contains vegetables ~fried rice entree - choice of beef, chicken, tofu or seafood (up charge for seafood) I opted for the tofu fried rice, and was delightfully surprised that it was a good sized portion. The tofu skin was deep-fried so it had a slight chewy texture. The fried rice was very flavorful, and had a good mix of vegetables like scallions and onions that complemented the dish. I also had the Thai iced tea which tasted less artificial, and more authentic than other places. I wish it came in a bigger glass though. I had made a reservation, but that was totally unnecessary because I was practically the only person at the restaurant. That being said, the ambience was nice and the service was good. I got the ginger chicken and my boyfriend ordered the pad thai. The food came out relatively quickly and was a normal Thai experience. The entrees were filling and neither of us finished our meals. Came here for an early weekend dinner. Most of the tables outside were taken but as an avid avoider of humidity I asked to sit inside with my beau. The restaurant was very spacious and pretty quiet until a few more couples were seated and then the music was turned on. Service was quick and friendly. Sapporo is on tap and decently priced which made my partner happy and the cocktail list was impressive but my eyes were only set on all the tasty looking food options. we ordered a California roll and Tom Kha Gai to start and then I got the chicken pad Thai while my partner got the crisyy duck. Food came out at a good pace and everything was delicious. I always like to get a California roll when I try a new place so I can gauge how much I'll like their sushi for future visits. The size and temperature were spot on, and the rice was well seasoned and not too sticky--definitely a winner! The first thing to know - if you ever come across a restaurant that serves at the same time two food groups that are unrelated - French and tacos - for example, run the other way. The same thing works with this restaurant. It lacks identity, and just as you wouldn't want to date a person who lacks identity, wby on earth would you go to a restaurant that can't decide what it wants to serve? Stream of consciousness out of the way, I have to admit I have been here a few times despite giving it two stars. Why? Because I sometimes have lunch meetings and this place is quiet. Why is it quiet? Because there are rarely any customers here at lunch. So, you put one and one together and figure out why. Overall, the food was bland and inauthentic. Vegetables that are not in Thai dishes at traditional restaurants make it into this one somehow. The dishes were bland and, even for DC, a bit expensive for the portion. What's more, service is poor at best. I especially asked them to make my dish not so watery. It came out watery. My friend asked for water. It took too longer to come. Maybe they just mixed up our requests. Once, I found myself damn near inside the kitchen because I asked for soy sauce and it never came. I probably should have stayed in the kitchen to help with service because these servers seemed lost, slow and inexperienced. I rarely write this critical a review of a restaurant, but I will hold lunch meetings in the parking lot next time if I have to because this place is pitiful. 1st and last time here. The place was empty. Order sushi dragon roll it was blah and the appetizer shrimp tempura was heavenly breaded and the breading was soft NOT crunchy literately we pulled the batter off the shrimp. Stumbled upon this place wandering around navy yard. We sat at the bar and were promptly served. We ordered a few rolls, the sushi was average at best. This was one of those experiences that wasn't bad... but also not great. The service was prompt, but not particularly friendly. Just a little... blah. Dropped in for a late dinner, not expecting much given how empty it was. We ordered the Pad Gra Proa with chicken and sushi after much deliberation- the menu is extensive, but not overwhelming! Our food arrived very quickly (probably 10 or 15 minutes), and we had the funky decor to look at as we waited. The food definitely surpassed my expectations! The sushi was fresh and well-made, but the chicken was the real star. It tasted super fresh and perfectly cooked, and the sauce was excellent, especially with the fresh basil mixed throughout. For a standard Asian fusion restaurant, Kruba does a great job, even if it is somewhat overpriced (that's what you get in Navy Yard, though). read more

It is a shame that the food here is good. I was exited to come here a second time for their amazing curry, instead I was greeted by a rude hostess who proceeded to inform both me and my wife that they weren't open even though their opening time for Sunday stated 12 and it was 12:10. She wasn't polite, she basically wanted to kick us out because most likely she didn't want to work. The chef's talent is wasted here, the service is terrible. If you want to try the food, I suggest you order takeout and do not bother tipping, they don't deserve it. What a shame. I hope they remove the short haired hostess read more

Came here for dinner on a Saturday after a Nats game and surprisingly there was no wait. We ordered Papaya salad, drunken noodles and a couple of sushi rolls and were amazed. Great service and even better food. 100% recommend read more
