Known as the "Crack Kroger" by locals, this place is near and dear to my heart. Yeah, it's kinda in the ghetto. (which we like to hide from the tourists, btw) but this Kroger is awesome. They redid it right before I moved and gurrrrl, it is fancy now. Yeah, there are bums outside and yeah you'll see lots of young kids with pink/purple/green hair; tons of tattoos, or lots of wanna be hippies with dreads... but don't worry those are just the SCAD students (huge art college in town). They're harmless. The store has a huge deli, bakery, wine/beer department, seafood department, etc. but here is the reason why this place is my favorite. THE FRIED CHICKEN!!! This is a hidden secret in Savannah. The best chicken is here. Do NOT eat at that 'famous lady's restaurant' (I'm friends with her and her family so I can't say the name)... She isn't cooking her own food anymore and it's gross. GO HERE FOR FRIED CHICKEN. The deli makes fresh fried chicken all day and it is divine. I don't know what they do to it, but it's amazing. We get it for everything: days out on the boat, the beach, parties, etc. Crack Kroger fried chicken... just do it. read more

Unfortunately, since using this Kroger, I've been more and more disappointed. Lately, they run completely out of fresh fruit and vegetables (I am talking not a single banana for three days....), and the shelves are restocked often enough either. There were very very poor meat options, with most being almost expired. I'll sadly be trekking further out to other grocery stores in the future for my main grocery runs. read more

This is a really nice grocery store in Savannah. Another advantage to this is that it is fairly dowtown which makes it easily accessible. Another pro? It is open until 12 midnight every night! This time is unheard of in this city and especially for groceries. I have actually used them at the 11 o'clock hour before many times and this has come in handy. Quite a large store and a huge selection. There is even an organic/veg section for those of you out there. I found this to be very surprising for a store in the south. Large aisles that are always stocked as well helps. The only thing that I can think of that is 'scary' are the security guards. This is a good Kroger. They have food and drink plus a deli and lots of ready-made choices if you want that. It's even walkable from some parts of Savannah (within reason). I've stayed on Forsyth and it's great to run in here for whatever. Selection is as good as the Kroger in Buckhead, Atlanta minus the smug, so I'm satisfied. There's certainly no "food desert" in Savannah as long as we can go Krogering here. read more

I am extremely disappointed in this grocery store. I used to shop here and though "meh, it sucks but its close by. Its not like it can get any worse" Oh, but it did. Within the last year I have watched it steadily decline. 1. It is dirty and disgusting 2. I NEVER find what I need anymore. Theres constantly empty shelves and missing product. 3. The produce is absolutely HORRIBLE. Disgusting. Almost every fruit I have gotten from here has been basically inedible. 4. I have had multiple cashiers be very rude to me on several occasions. I attribute this steady decline to the opening of their new Kroger near the mall. They have obviously put all of their time and money into the new one and have forgotten about this one. Bad call, Kroger. On a positive note- their prices are unbeatable. I have tried them all and you just cannot get cheaper groceries even at Walmart. The location of this particular Kroger is wonderful. Near the park and in the heart of downtown. They have also recently added an organic section. If they ever decide to revamp this store I will try to shop there again. Needless to say, I have been traveling the few extra miles to go to Publix, The New Kroger, or Whole Foods despite the extra gas, money, and time. For me it is just literally that bad. And when you have shopped at any of these other grocery stores it is hard to go back to the "Crack Kroger". I'm not even a grocery snob. I just hate it. read more

They have everything someone may need and more; and the best part is that might be one of the only places that stay open until midnight. This Kroger is huge and clean with a great selection of products. Each dept. has a huge variance of product options. Every specialty cheese you can think of, they have it. Very nice selection of organic items and gluten-free items. Huge frozen foods area. The produce section is well maintained and items are always fresh. The sushi is made fresh onsite and you can watch them make it. There is a Starbucks inside. Point! Lol. The only complaint I have is that the Express cashiers disappear alot. read more

This review is for the Starbucks inside Kroger. I waited over 20 minutes for a simple ice coffee and sandwich. The two employees behind the counter were arguing with one another about who should be doing what and how. My food came out after everyone who ordered after me because she forgot to put it in. The barista spent time casually chatting with some other patron for 3-5 minutes instead of making drinks for the 8 or so people waiting, labeled cups literally piling up (a catalyst for the arguing). I know it's the South but can we please pick up the pace? read more

This is the only grocery store downtown which is convenient if you're on bike. They've got everything you'd expect. Alcohol, fresh meat, frozen food, fruits, vegs, bakery and more. It's a lot cheaper if you have a Kroger card so is recommend getting one. They also have parking so that's great. But if you're driving think about Publix or something instead. The atmosphere is "meh" and the staff is just "alright". But it gets the job done. read more

Not as nice as some of the other Krogers I have visited, but this place will get the job done if you want less expensive things and do not want to visit a specialty store. We stopped in for a wine and cheese night, and found a great selection of Boars Head meats to accompany. We went to the meat counter and after repeatedly telling the deli person 1/4 pound of salami, she still gave, and charged us for 1/2 pound. She was also talking to her friend. The cashier was fantastic and super nice, so I wouldn't judge all personnel by the deli employee. I've gone back and forth about whether to give this store three stars or four stars. Basically, it's a pretty good supermarket (WAY better than the downtown supermarkets I had to deal with living in other cities). Pros: -- the store is generally clean and attractive -- there is some very nice produce -- they have a good selection of healthy and organic products -- they have good-quality meat and fish -- they have a nice selection of wine and beer -- the pharmacists are friendly and helpful Cons: -- there is no salad bar -- it can be difficult to find sufficiently ripe tomatoes and bananas -- the aisles are sometimes crowded with crates for restocking -- the clientele can be extremely annoying (which isn't Kroger's fault) -- sorry, but I HATE scanning and bagging groceries myself All things considered, it's a good supermarket with good prices. read more

OMG It's what you'd expect with a Kroger. Everything you need but pretty sketchy. Always some interesting townies hanging out front gossiping about nothing. Would not recommend going after sunset. You might get stabbed or tickled to death. The avocado game is pretty good. Great addition to taco night (tonight! ) The seafood "On Sale" makes me question life, but I always get some. Ohhh Kroger. I love your Starbucks, your sushi, and your low prices. However, I hate how cramped the store feels and how there's always long lines due to only 1 or 2 lanes being opened. My boyfriend affectionately calls it "murder Kroger" because the location is a little sketchy. I wish they would go ahead and renovate this store like they have with the others in the area. Located close in the downtown area this is by far the worst of all the local Kroger's. It is however the only grocery store in the area so this is it unless you're willing to go a few miles south. Because of its location this is Kroger has a diverse group of shoppers so there's no telling who you'll run into here. My problem with this store is they don't seem to maintain its upkeep like their other stores. When you go in it's like going into someone's home and seeing that really don't care about their place they just live there and that's it . And since they benefit from not having any competition & some of the impoverished and college students who live in the area don't have transportation they're allowed to continue to operate like this. In any other area of the city this wouldn't fly but apparently it's okay here. read more

My least favorite business in this entire city. They staff are uninformed about their products and entirely unhelpful and often rude. The organization is illogical and they are lacking many products. The produce is also poor. The obnoxious high pitched noise coming from the front of the building to detract loitering is totally annoying. I am so willing to pay a few dollars more and shop at Publix where shopping truly is a pleasure. read more

I was recently in Savannah, GA and stopped at the Kroger for a few things. When we travel we often grab sodas and snacks at a grocery store to reduce expenses. We also had to return the redbox movies we watched on the laptop! They are clean and well stocked and the employees were helpful. --That is all you need in a grocery store right? Well that and reasonable prices! If you join the club you get the sales prices and can earn .10 a gallon off gas at shell and more at a Kroger gas station. We were astonished to get the same Mexican coke from Kroger at half the price we had paid the night before at a gas station! Yeah half! Its not far away from the downtown area either, so it was not location just the Kroger versus Unnamed gas station. Less than three blocks from each other! Do yourself a favor if your not sure, try it! read more

Been shopping here 3 year's and the main problems I have is early every week they are out of so much stock I have to shop elsewhere. Very few lines ever open n so tired of the beggars out front n even in the store asking for money. This store needs some manager changes to better suit the customer n community. read more

This place is a total sh@! show. Literally from the moment you arrive in the parking lot, littered with untethered carts and homeless folks asking for money (like seriously, it's a panhandlers convention out there). Walking through the doors you're greeted with the bedlam of registers that you will inevitably have to face if you plan to buy anything. 10 registers and perhaps 2 open with lines spanning the length of the grocery store. I'm not sure if the folks manning the place are actual employees or just members of the community that need a quick buck and float through the store pretending to work there. Navigating the aisles requires some sort machinery of flight since they're crowded with folks stocking from pallets and blocking entire thoroughfares. If you need to wait in line at any one of the departments, plan a day trip...the likelihood of getting service on the same calendar date that you enter the queue is highly unlikely. Once you work your way back to the registers for check out you'll certainly be questioning your desire to ever purchase food again...certainly death by starvation can't be as bad as a return trip to this Kroger. We visit Savannah every year...unfortunately we visit this Kroger too (since it's the only game in town). This year's visit was hands down the worst. With enough booze we'll wipe the memory of another horror-story Kroger visit from our minds. And try to let the City of Hospitality salve our wounds. Next year...Shipt for sure. read more

With few exceptions (such as Mary the sandwich lady or a young black man in the delli) the staff is mediocre at best and downright rude at worst. I blame poor management for lack or training and customer service standards. I live in the historic district, so I am witness to the large numbers of shopping carts dumped all over my neighborhood. Yesterday there were nearly a dozzen carts dumped in front of Rose of Sharron apartments. I even saw a Kroger cashier in uniform push a full cart of groceries down Habersham Street and then across a dirt lane, presumably to her home. Ask for help in the bakery department and you may be rudely ignored like I was. Ask for a meat package to be cut down and they may act visibly anoyed. And check the freshness dates because they don't always pull out of date products from the shelves. Then there are the incessant pan handlers outside the store. Sometimes they even come in the store to hit up shoppers in the aisles. Savannah now has a lot more grocery store competifion. I will be shopping at Publix. In 50 years of shopping I have never had a complaint with them. read more

the only super market within walking distance to our hotel and open late, which was great when I needed medicine and my husband could go get me it! we had no car so walking distance was a big deal to us obviously.... anyway it's a basic supermarket where we were able to get some juice etc also in our hotel. read more

Staff is helpful, decent craft beer selection. HOWEVER, the customer's pick craft beer mixed packs are no longer charged as one blanket price by the six pack. They ring up individually. I'm totally willing to drop money on good beer but 3 beers I really wanted to try didn't scan and came up as not found in their system. Mind you there is an entire row of these beers they were not misplaced. One employee said "oh yeah the beer guys stock their beer wrong all the time." NOPE those rows were labeled with the correct description and price of that particular kind of beer. They were not misplaced or stocked wrong. MGMT, get It together! This or a hassle for your customers and your staff! Not buying beer here ever again. I'll take my business down the road. read more

This Kroger is like the great equalizer. From rich scad kids to people just trying to make ends meet, everyone has to shop there because it's the only grocery store downtown. I give it 4 stars for the great prices and relatively friendly employees. Also, they've made a lot of improvements since I moved here like adding a Starbucks and expanding their organic and whole foods section. It's just really crowded because, well, see above everyone shops there. read more

I had to exchange a food (yogurt) item as the container had a split in the bottom- I walked to customer service and was treated with RUDE service from KANESHIA- as it was to much trouble for her to deal with my small request of an exchange- I told her I would go get another and when j came back with a different brand (as the other brand was no longer available) I asked for the price adjustment and was again dealing with her dismissive attitude and RUDE service.
