Great prices for authentic Asian groceries, treats, and ingredients. The parking lot is a little small, but there's plenty of street parking. As mentioned in another review, there is whole section of the store past the refrigerated items (juices, milk, etc). That's where more ingredients are! We left with a few prepackaged ramens, phos, and unique flavored chips. I've been meaning to try cooking Vietnamese food and I'm excited to go back and get the proper ingredients. When you get in to the store, please remember to follow the register to the end, turn left, until middle of the way, you will see a hole on your right side. Even though on the both sides of the hole says "employees only", please ignore the sign and keep walking in the small hole, you will find out most of the merchandises were hiding there!! I was told during one Yelp Elite meet-up that there was an Asian market in Savannah downtown that I probably could find some Asian goodies. I was so curious and making a trip to visit the store, sadly I couldn't understand why people gave good rating, but I found the place was messy with cardboard boxes everywhere in the front entrance, I didn't see what I expected to see, on the top of it, the parking situation was confusing. Almost nearly a year, when everywhere is locked down, I am not able to drive far to either Jacksonville or Atlanta to get my precious Taro Pancakes during Covid-19 outbreak. I suddenly remembered a small Asian grocery place. So I made a phone call to the store and asked for Taro Pancakes. Surprisingly, the store had. I was so happy and drove to the place again after so many months later. When I arrived, the front entrance was still messy, the parking lots was helpless busy. I was wondering and quickly walked around the store. I thought it didn't make any difference from first time I've been there, and I didn't see the Taro Pancakes. After asking the ladies working in the store, I just realized YOU NEED TO GO THROUGH THE HOLE. It was very confusing, but after you see the place, I believe you can situate yourself pretty good. I just wish they make the signs clear enough that customers will understand easily without wondering around. For example, when I saw the restaurant names on different walk-in refrigerators, I thought the refrigerators were belonged to them, I didn't understand the papers / signs were Advertisings to the restaurants until I saw other customers walking in and out. But again, after you visit first time, you will get it. So far, I only visit the store for Taro Pancakes and different buns. And I am happy for what I found. Thanks ChinaTown market, you save my life, and my lonely mouth is satisfied from the goodies I buy from your store. And for people who don't wanna risk your car in the tiny parking lots, I recommend you to park around the block. First you don't have to fight with the parking spots. This is just the place you can't avoid going every once in a while if you're of Chinese descendant. Of course there are online vendors such as Yamibuy, but no matter what you still need a physical Chinese grocery store like this to buy frozen dumplings, fresh veggies and etc. I love how well stocked it is. So I'm brand new to the asian market scene here in Savannah and also new to most of the foods you could find here. Over the last few months me and my fiance have began making more Asian based dishes and are broadening up our taste buds to the wonderful foods their culture can provide. After visiting a few different markets over the past year there are definitely a few that are good and the employees have been very helpful but the selection here at Chinatown is unreal. I honestly spent like an hour and a half in here the first time I came in because I was almost mesmerized at all the stuff in there, half of which I had never seen/heard of. This place is big too, like big big. The first main room where the meat market is and the register is several isles of non-perishables. Noodles, treats, seasonings, and many more items. They have bins of rice that is fairly cheap (around $1 a pound), and also some fresh fruits and veggies in bins hanging around the front near the counters. The next room seems very hidden and at first I didnt think i could go in there because it looks like a back room for employees but one of the employees took me back there to show me some items and wowwowowow the second room is even bigger than the first. They have a hugeeee sauce aisle (i like sauce) as well as a very large frozen section in this area. On the other isle is some more non-perishables and more seasonings, spices, pastes, and, my favorite, curry. There is also a very big walk in freezer in that room, and that my friends is where the money is. All kinds of fresh fruits, veggies, meats, noodles, and my other favorite, kimchi! All of their veggies (and honestly most of their items) and fairly cheap and reasonably prices versus some other markets in the Savannah area. Very competitive prices with the other large supermarkets around here also. But lowkey, their kimchi is pretty cheap. Got a big (i think quart size jar) for only $5.99 and its pretty good, commercially made so not quite as good as homemade but hey it'll do for now. Sorry for the bomb on this review but Chinatown Market really is legit! My new favorite market in Sav. Ive came in here already about 3 or 4 times and I plan on continuing to come back. The Owners are very nice and the prices are not to bad. I really liked this place and am so glad I found them. I am a huge Asian food lover and here I can find most of what I need to cook my Asian at home. I was driving to Atlanta every few months just to shop for my Asian ingredients. Now I don't have to do that as often anymore thanks to this business. It's a great find here in Savannah and so glad they have it here. Seriously I was getting depressed with the food options and was seriously considering to move back to Atlanta. It's that important to me and this is a great find for me. Best Asian market I've been so in Savannah. Seems small but that's partly because there's a second half that you enter through a hallway in back corner. Not tons of fresh produce but they have everything I was looking for. The staff was very helpful in helping me find things. It is packed full with boxes on floor, which made it hard to navigate. If you like to browse through unusual items then it's worth taking a look at. My friends and I come over occasionally from Hilton Head to stock up on some things and generate ideas to pursue in the kitchen. So we spend sometimes a couple of hours there. The place itself is worn down and messy but I LOVE this shop. Growing up in the bay area I really miss mochi and green tea pocky among other things when I'm here and this place has everything I could want (aside from samanco ice cream fishes I'd sell my soul for those). If this place closed I would be in tears. Forewarning, it is a dive and needs a makeover. However, great selection of non-perishables and the secret chamber of vegetables are super fresh. The inexperienced would never know there is a trove of FRESH asian vegetables in the cooler stockade. ASK if you can't locate it. On Fridays they have a selection of baked goods from Atlanta. I agree with what the other reviewers have said. This is a very good oriental food source store. Having said that, I believe the Hong Tan at 816 Pennsylvania Avenue in Savannah is better. It is cleaner and better organized and because it is a smaller store, direct personal assistance is a bit more forthcoming. The advantage of the Chinatown market is it is smack-dab in the center of downtown Savannah. The Hong Tan is a little bit further away, but not all that much. read more

This is the only Asian market in Savannah that has a wide variety of products. Over the years I seen the owner renovated this place. They added more refrigerators, organizers and a variety of ingredients. Their products are over price. Probably because there are not many options in Savannah and the owner drives to Atlanta to get their products. The environment is a bit dirty compare to Asian markets in CA. Overall this is a good place for the majority of Asian international SCAD students. If you miss your hometown food you might something here. read more

I love shopping at Chinatown Market, and being asked things like, "Your Thai basil will be 74 cents, is that ok?" "Bean sprouts 17 cents, ok?" when my purchases are being weighed up. Please stop trying to buy your Asian ingredients at Publix, Brighter Day, Fresh Market, etc. It's just silly. The tiny jar of Thai curry paste at these stores that has perhaps three tablespoons total in it, barely enough for one batch, costs the same as a jar that will let you make half a dozen or more batches sold here at Chinatown Market. I love going in on Friday morning when their deliveries come and seeing what goodies are going to be in this week (lately it's been big, delicious green sour mangos by the crate!) and snapping stuff up at its freshest. I love that flank steak is $3-change a pound and duck tongues are $12-change a pound. I love that I can buy marrow bones and eel and octopus and all sorts of frozen seafoods. It's not perfect, of course. I don't love that about 1/3 of the time they're out of my favorite frozen dumplings (apparently they're the owner's son's favorite and the only kind he'll eat, so that probably explains it) and the green tea ice cream. I don't love that sometimes it could REALLY use to be a bit cleaner in the back/Asian area. But whatever. A fair amount of non-prepackaged stuff is labelled only in Chinese, so if you can't read the language, you might have to ask what some stuff is to make sure you're getting what you want, but hey, it's Chinatown Market, if you can't read Chinese, you might not be the target customer. It is really more of an Asian grocery than a Chinese-specific grocery but that's fine by me. A decent amount of Thai and Vietnamese foods/ingredients, not many Japanese foods or Korean. So conveniently located near downtown Savannah, this place is the best place you could go to get your Asian grocery and snacks! The owners are so nice and they work super hard to go up to Atlanta every week to replenish their inventory to make sure we all have fresh produce and food to select from. This place is loaded with groceries. Vegetable is located in a walk in fridge, plenty of varieties. I'll go back just because there is no place else to go in Savannah. Now the bad, this place is just super ghetto, outside and inside. Aisle is full of cardboard boxes, no prices on items, let's not even talk about the meat items they have. Restroom? Don't even use it, I had better port a John in Iraq or Afghanistan. Prices is a little bit pricey, Compared to charleston. On second thought, we are probably not going back here. I wasn't expecting much when I came in. It was small and kinda dirty. Since I go to school in Statesboro, anything is a relief from Walmart and BiLo. So I was excited and surprised to find products and fresh produce I can't find unless I went back home to Atlanta. They have a decent section of fresh produce ranging from peppers to oyster mushrooms to bean sprouts. To my greatest surprise, they have salted duck eggs and century eggs! The owner makes trips to Atlanta every Thursday night to bring in a hoard of fresh Asian delights. It's typically best to shop Fridays and he makes additional trips for the holidays! This place is really dirty. One time I was there with the intention of buying ginger but when I got to the ginger basket that was on the floor (red flag #1), I saw ants crawling all over them! I immediately left. I only buy prepackaged sauces and frozen food from them that has an expiration date or isn't from mainland China. One time I was in the store, an employee (maybe the owner) was smoking in the back, had to leave because it stank so bad. Who smokes inside a store? One of their freezers has a flashing light, makes me wonder if it works all the time. I don't buy anything from that freezer. The good thing is if you find anything that's expired, they'll actually take it off the shelves. read more

Chinatown Market is wonderful! We were directed to a back room where the oriental foods were and I think I may have gasped when I we walked in. Korean BBQ sauce, hot sesame oil, stir fry noodles, Chinese dumplings, a gallon of soy sauce... Was only looking for a few things and walked out with a box and four bags. This being Savannah, we don't have an H-Mart or a 99 Ranch or anything like that. So with that in mind, this market fulfills a need. The store has a surprisingly large selection for its size and you can find pretty much anything you want. I go here to get my ramen noodles, wonton wrappers, frozen potstickers, etc. The bad things are it's very unclean and hard to navigate the aisles since it's so messy. I would never shop at a store that is so dirty if not for the fact that the items sold here are so hard to come by in Savannah (and I'm not a neat freak at ALL). Also, few items have prices. This makes it tough to do any kind of comparison shopping, let alone avoid buying something that costs too much. In its favor, the store does have decent parking and they do accept credit cards. read more

The atmosphere of the store in general is also not as cozy and warm as the Hong Tan Oriental Market on Pennsylvania.
