This Staples Mill Kroger location has the absolute WORST customer service I have ever had. Wouldn't cash both of my checks, when clearly they were payroll checks. I go to Kroger EVERY week to cash these exact same checks and it's never been an issue until today when I wasn't able to go to my usual location. I am beyond annoyed at the staff here. They gave me such a hard time about this when I said I have done this multiple times and I was aware that I could cash them here. They were rude and I will never be back to this location. Poor poor poor service and management is a joke. Very disappointed. I thought Kroger took more pride in who they hire for their staff. Clearly the employees working at the customer service desk don't know anything about their job. read more

A very impressive offering from Kroger! As the other reviewers have said, it was jam-packed with people eager to see the new store for themselves--and there was a lot to see! I am absolutely thrilled to have a Kroger just a couple of miles from my house; it's my favorite grocery store, but no locations were truly convenient until now. I'm looking forward to shopping there on a regular basis. I think Kroger, with these Marketplaces, will give Wal-Mart a run for its money. The Kroger employees seem far more friendly and helpful than in some of the local Wal-Marts (I'm looking at you, Brook Road location!), plus Kroger offers an extensive natural/organic foods section, which I've never seen in a Wal-Mart. Martin's and Food Lion should get ready for the competition as well. I'll be doing my best to help Kroger become the NUMBER ONE grocery store in the Richmond area! read more

Went out of my way to do my weekly trip to the grocery store here last week. HUGE STORE. And unlike the Kroger marketplace in Stonebridge, there are way more offerings that appeal to the general public. I was disappointed in the Stonebridge location, due to the fact that 1) I dont need furniture and 2) there was a huge selection of ethnic foods that don't appeal to me. This location was much more standard grocery store, with a small clothing section and a homegoods/furniture section that wasn't overwhelming. There is also a JEWELRY STORE and a Starbucks. All the clerks were SUPER friendly and pleasant to be around. I went on a Tuesday at 2, so the place was fairly empty, which was great. Great wine selection too. Maybe she was new, but one of the clerks had a hard time with one of my Kroger coupons. I'm pretty sure I never even got the discount applied because she really didn't seem to understand what I was saying, but oh well. This kroger by FAR trumps the Willow Lawn location, and the Carytown one (the parking lot isn't a war zone at the Staples Mill location). Worth the extra 10 minute drive, easily. read more

Awesome store! Grand opening is going on now. I just left. This store seems to have everything in one place! They are going all out for the grand opening.. I saw a juggler, I had a balloon hat made for me, there are samples galore going on.. and everywhere you turn is a smiling eager to assist employee. They are handing out free bread, maps of the floor layout, and sales flyers with a 25% coupon off apparel and shoes. There so much I am sure I am missing something.. I love the layout of the place, reminds me of Martins/Walmart combined.. but better. There are two seperate self check outs on either side by the doors.. loved that cause theres never enough of those in a store on a busy day. Theres a Starbucks inside of here and a Fre Meyers jewelry store.. I didnt get a chance to go in there but I will soon! I went in there for a couple cases of water and came out with that AND a new Charbroil gas grill for only $199. Thanks Kroger! This will definitly It is my new go to place to grocery shop going forward. It is close to my house and is a great new addition to the neighborhood. read more

Im partial to the Stonebridge Marketplace, but this one was ok. It is a good location, quite clean, and yeah it will save you a few trips to Target and Walmart every now and then. I just dont like the crowds. read more

The service in this store is outstanding. I have YET to have a bad experience here. If there is a problem, the staff will bend over backwards to fix the problem. There is ALWAYS something new and different there for a theme or focus on recipes and more. This is how customer service SHOULD BE!!! They package their own cheese, so if you wish to try a sample, ask. If a particular cheese wedge is too large, they will cut it to size and rewrap for you. The produce is always fresh and they have a decent meat and seafood counter. I've only gotten fish from there once, but it's nice to know there's the option, especially since the Martin's don't have a fresh section. I also really like the natural food section, I've tried out some fun snacks you can't find most places. My brother was crapping on this Kroger for trying to be like Walmart, but I don't see why that's so terrible. I needed a bundt pan one time and was able to grab one out of the kitchen section. I actually have options if I need pet supplies and food. They even have a huge baby section. I don't have a baby, but I'd damn sure shop there if I did. It's a little out of my way, but I always come here over the other closer grocery stores if I have time. read more

This Kroger is huge!! Seriously it's probably one of the biggest grocery stores I've been in. They even have some clothing and a jewelry store in here. You can find a lot here in terms of brand variety which is great. What I really like about this Kroger is: 1. The cheese "shop" or area rather boasts a great selection of special cheeses. I've also never been to this area without the sweet lady behind the counter asking me if I need help. I tried a goats milk brie this week that was super yummy. 2. Sushi bar. Need I say more? While not the most exotic of sushi creations they make it fresh and are always giving out samples. If I'm craving some rice-wrapped freshness and want a quick fix I know I can come here. 3. The store is super clean and well organized. You can pretty much it all your food shopping needs in one place. Even a new blender if that were that case. I definitely prefer this grocery store to some of the others nearby. read more

Thank goodness I work by here, as I pop by here all of the time during my lunch breaks. That being said, now I am extremely spoiled whenever I go into another Kroger. This Kroger has everything you need (within reason, of course) and more. Besides the store being clean and its workers happy to stop and help, they always have free wine, cheese, sushi, snacks, etc to try. It's embarrassing, but the cheese people definitely know me. Speaking of the cheese section, it is wonderful; never have I met any cheese employees so well spoken about their cheeses. They also are extremely sweet and happy to let me try a few. The natural/organic section is pretty well stocked, which is never always true at regular grocery stores. The international section is also larger than most. Overall, it is a large store, which is great! I get a bit of a workout while I shop, so I can't complain! read more

Veronica may be the rudest person I have ever met. Worst person to put in customer service. She was very nasty and unwilling to help. All she did was talk down and over me. Continuously remarked how I didn't know what I was talking about when the mistake was clearly hers. If you work for Instacart, stay away from this Kroger and this "employee" at all costs. read more

Love, love, love this Kroger. So much better than Willow Lawn, a lot bigger and more well stocked. Friendly people and never any wait at the self-serve checkout. I haven't yet bought anything here other than the usual provisions but it's nice to know that I could get, for instance, a set of mugs or a tank of gas in the car if I needed to. Only gripes so far are minor: sometimes spotty inventory of prepackaged flat iron steaks in the meat department, occasionally the organic lettuce/salad mixes (clear plastic bins for ~$2.99ea) are too close to their expiration date for full price sale, and they recently removed honey sesame sticks from the self-serve dispensers in the health food section, putting quinoa in place of 'em - not sure why as the honey sesame sticks were obviously a big seller. In summary: well worth the drive unless you're much closer to the Carytown one. read more

I stopped by this Kroger to pick up a few things. It's very spacious and clean inside. Kroger Marketplace is definitely one stop shopping for customers. There's a jewelry and clothing section inside of the grocery store. This Kroger can be a bit confusing (layout). Some things are difficult to find at first. It's plenty of checkout lanes open for customers. The employees are friendly. Be sure to bring your walking shoes at this location. Kroger Marketplace is definitely a good addition to the Staple Mills area. I give Kroger Marketplace a 4.5 rating. read more

At first I was really confused, wandering into the section with women's apparel directly beside the dairy case, but I see this being my go-to store over the Food Lion and Target across Staples Mill. I do think the parking lot is a poorly designed mess...it's small, and the gas station and the main section all feed into one exit and it took forever to get out. And employees have to park in an auxiliary lot beside Hermitage High School which is across a street behind the store, for goodness sake!!! Overall I'm sold though, this will be a real convenience since I only live a mile away. read more

By far the biggest Kroger location in the West End. All the employees here are nice and very helpful when you have questions about where to find things. Everything is clearly labeled otherwise. There is also a Starbucks located within and does not lack compare to independent Starbucks locations. Extra bonus - there is always someone handing out sushi samples and the sushi does not disappoint! read more

I have 14 prescriptions a month filled for myself at this Kroger since it opened several years ago, in addition to the multiple prescriptions I manage for my mother and my children. There was one wonderful pharmacist who worked there when it first opened who was very helpful and who even would recognize me and say hi when we saw one another out and about. She left early on, and since then, when I come in with a new script, I still get asked by whatever newcomer is at the counter if I've filled prescriptions with them before. I've had one prescription eye-drop on back order for over two months with no solution proposed by anyone with whom I've checked, until the person with whom I spoke today said "well, you could always ask your Dr. to prescribe single doses instead of the multi dose bottle." Well, at the Kroger on Atlee, where my dad used to get his prescriptions filled, or the CVS in Target I used to deal with in my old neighborhood, the pharmacist would have called me to ask me if I wanted to do that, and I'd have had my eye drops two months ago. I've only stayed with this pharmacy out of inertia because it's local and I have had too much on my plate to stop and make changes, but I'm finally taking care of switching pharmacies--to one that pre-sorts the pills for me--today. I called Kroger to get the RX# for the backordered eyedrops, and the person on the phone could. not. have. cared. less. that I was switching pharmacies, shockingly enough. Also, I forgot to mention, there's one guy who works the drive through window who is soooooo freaking slooooooooooooooooooowwwww. He easily spends at least 15-20 minutes with each car, which means you can literally be stuck in that line (because of the curb blocking you in once you join it) for over an hour if you're the fourth car, as happened to me once. The next time I saw a few cars in line, I knew not to risk it, so I parked and carried my mobility-challenged arse inside to stand in line behind three other people, and had to wait for one of my prescriptions to finish being processed before I could take it with me. The same guy was working the window who had it running so slowly before, and I was still in and out before he'd finished with the car that he was working on when I first drove past the drive-through! read more

I thought this brand-spanking new store, with it's natural food section, discount prices, and gas card discounts was my dream come true... Until I filled my tank at Kroger gas station using my Kroger gas card discount, and half-way through the week, I was on empty!!! Now, I have been filling my tank with Martins or WaWa's gas for years and driving the same distance, but received WAY more gas mileage!! I could go at least a week and a few days. After asking around, I'm not the only one that has noticed this problem. So, I'm actually going to pay more for gas and probably need added maintenance on my car due to the type of gas Kroger offers- and no, I don't use regular. At this point, shopping there is a waist of my time and money. I'm hoping Kroger does an upgrade on the kind of gas they're selling to the public because I'm truly a disappointed customer. read more

At first I was like do we really need another grocery store in the area? I have been a faithful Whole Foods customer for years. However, I have been going to Kroger lately and have decided to adopt it as my new grocery store. Really doesn't make any sense otherwise. It's closer in proximity. I've been shopping at this Kroger since it opened and have never had a single problem.

Formerly my grocery store of choice, but we're moving on! Not sure whether they're remodeling or closing, but nothing is where it normally was, shelves are not stocked, spills are not cleaned up, and the employees don't know where anything is. Kids are allowed to run wild in the store. It's exhausting and time-consuming to do just a small shop for a few things on the way home. Hope they get their act together! read more

I go here more than once a week. I have only ever had excellent customer service. I've never had a cashier that seemed to be in a bad mood or was anything less than pleasant, and I get the feeling that they enjoy their work atmosphere. I love the little carts for my toddler and he loves them too, although I'm never sure what I'll find in his cart when I get to checkout. ;) Free sushi samples most afternoons! Starbucks drinks that count towards your Kroger fuel points! Only ever gotten excellent quality produce. Meat prices are not as competitive as I'd like, and their bakery markdowns leave something to be desired but since I save on all the other departments, still tends to be worth it. I feel like for a one stop grocery, that overall their prices are lower than other grocers in the area. And once I had a problem with my WIC card and eventually they gave me a Kroger gift card for all my trouble, even though I later found out that the issue was with WIC not with the Kroger. Just one more example of why I think this store deserves an A+. read more

I don't get what people see in this place? It's a big in my opinion too big of a grocery store that has the same products and selections as your average grocery store. Remember big is not always better, when Wagmns opens up the Kroger parking lot will be empty. read more

I wish they wouldn't keep making stores larger, I go to the grocery store for groceries, not clothing. The plus to this store as to all Krogers is that they have enough registers open so you don't have to wait to checkout. The negatives are the pharmacy, which takes an hour to fill a prescription when you tell them you're waiting. Also, the prepared food section is not so great with the fried chicken. Months back we bought an 8 piece. We tried to get it at the counter, but they act like they don't want to help you and steer you to the ones already sitting out. This chicken smelled and tasted burnt when we opened it at home. We called and spoke to the manager to let them know and that they should probably change the oil. Next time, my husband insisted they package it for him from the chicken which was freshest. Yes, it smelled and tasted burnt too. Today he was there before 12 noon and figured it would be safe to buy some chicken because it was early and should be fresh. You figure the first batch of the day wouldn't have any problems but it also smelled and tasted burnt and he only got 7 pieces in the package. What's the point in calling them again, we've made the manager aware of this and it's obviously something they're not going to fix. read more
